281  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain Points ( A new feature, What is it) ? on: February 21, 2020, 09:24:25 AM
If you go into your account and click on "Sale Order" then "Shipped" to only show the shipped orders.

Then on the right hand side of the order info there is a section that says "Total order price: XXXX.XX"

Thats the total after discounts, coupons, shipping etc.

Add the ones up since 29th October and it should work out to 1 point per $100 spent.

Well it does for me.
282  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 SE 17TH on: February 18, 2020, 01:58:05 PM
Thanks every one for the reply.

I have had that one running for 17 hours now. Then I woke up this morning to fin another one had tripped off. Its 5 degrees celsius outside and probably about 17 in the room with lots of air flow.

Its a shame they are problematic.

I will try replacing the ethernet cable and swap power supplies around but I'm not confident it will work!

Check all the ribbon cables are attached correctly, lots of stuff comes from Bitmain with loose cables
283  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Question about bitmain pods on: February 17, 2020, 06:18:58 PM
Have you asked Bitmain if they have any customers who have bought one in the US?

So I contacted the the ISP provider and they confirmed me that I was hacked by WiFi although I’m not sure how since the SSID was hidden.

Hiding an SSID is NOT a security feature.  It just keeps the casual person from seeing your network easily.  Clients still need to know the SSID and that information is passed in the clear over the air.  So anyone sniffing for WiFi can easily see your SSID even though it is hidden.

I seriously doubt that a hacker in China was connecting via your WiFi.

Make sure your using, at least, WPA2 with a very good and complex key.  Disable uPNP and Bonjour and reboot it.  If your using a Ubiquity router make sure you disable Ubi Discovery.

Os2Sam,  I wanted to ask you.  How can I check my network for the level of security?  What type of software do I need to load up to be able to try to hack my own network even when the SSID is hidden?  I thought that it makes it pretty safe when I hide the SSID Huh

What other modern safety measures people take these days to protect their network?  Thanks!

You can download wireshark to scan your network traffic.  WPA/2/3 with, a good, high entropy key is important for wifi.  uPNP and Bonjour allow apps in your network to open ports in your router, whether its wired or wifi, and gives you NO notification that that was done.

Also you can check TCP hardness of your router by using ShieldsUp at grc.com and scanning "All Service Ports" and verifying that all ports are at least closed at best stealthed.

Thanks for the information Sam!  I will check all of the software that you’ve recommended to me although i barely ever use my laptop and am always on my ipad so Is there any easier way to protect the network like some of those $200 plug and play devices on Amazon such as this one:

  https://www.amazon.com/GRYPHON-Security-Protection-AI-Intrusion-Detection/dp/B078Z3PTJP/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=secure+network+device&qid=1581610085&sr=8-7

Would it do any good to help me get more secured?

Thanks!

You would need to replace your existing router with that for it to help.

Just to confirm, Are native segwit bech32 addresses still invalid on KanoPool?
Never got an answer, but i tried setting up one recently and it apparently works now. Can anybody else confirm using bech32 (bc1q+) addresses with this pool are working correctly and receiving payments?

From Discord: "Anyone who wants to use a bech32 on their account as their payout address, that's now enabled i.e. a bc1 address. It follows the standard rules that it must be all UPPER or all lower case, but I store it in the DB in lowercase. However, you can't mine directly to a bc1 address."

And from here:

For those wanting this, you can now set a bech32/bc1 'address' as your account payout address.
It has the usual rules on input of all UPPER or all lower case, but is stored internally and displayed as all lower case.

Good evening fellow miners!  Just wanted to let you know that I’ve had another S9 hacked today and the controller is ruined and I ran out of the replacement controllers Cry

Firewall is set to medium, if I set it to higher level then the miners don’t connect.  Not sure what else I can do to stop this guy from stealing my coins and braking my hardware.

If anyone is interested here is the address that this bastard puts instead of my pool settings and his wallet address.

stratum+tcp://sha256.hk.nicehash.com:3334#xnsub

The controllers can not be hard reset, the address can not be changed.  BEWARE AND KEEP YOU NETWORK SAFE¡

Good night and mine on!  The block is coming soon! Smiley

Its more likely that the attack is coming from one of the computers on your internal network rather than from outside.

Unless you have forwarded ports to access your miners from outside your network, or worse, your miners have public IP addresses, the most likely cause of the hack is a compromised windows computer on your network.
289  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter bitcoin mining pool - Pays TxFees, Merged Mining, Fair PPLNS rewards on: February 08, 2020, 02:40:58 PM
For sport.. Power in UK on average around £0.155/kWh..
My lickle S17 eats around 2.6kWh.. So an hour of mining = £0.403..
1 day of mining = £9.672..
154 days of mining = £1,489.49..
Just need a 0.23BTC share of this next block to break even..! :-D
COME ON BLOCK YOU'RE BECOMING A PAIN IN THE BUTT.

And that's not even taking into account paying off the capital costs/shipping/VAT of buying the miner in the first place.

Mining in the UK is a lost cause really.

My last coupon has no time limit, but expires if BTC hits $20K for 3 consecutive days.

I'm keeping it for a while Smiley

They are pretty huge in China I understand.

Data probably coming from this article:

293  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Regarding Steamtyme's list of competitive hardware on: January 26, 2020, 10:07:17 AM
... Either way the list is simply that a listing of gear available, the forum and it's threads are where people need to make the decision on what they can mine with, how they can mine with it, and what if anything they can do about the decentralization of mining.

It's not "simply" a list though is it,  it's a stickied post that always stays at the top of that section of the forum, so it had more impact than a regular post that can get lost in the SNR odd the rest of the forum.

Also can you add the S17+ to the main list now? It does 40W/Th so is pretty much the second most efficient miner after the S17-Pro.

Its definitely been delivered to customers and is out there in the wild hashing away, I can attest to that.
294  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: t17 40ths on: January 22, 2020, 02:16:17 PM
Try checking the wires to the hashboards.

This is what one of the steps that Bitmain sends out if you contact them about the issue.

1.check the wires for the hashboard--pull them and re-plug them again, and also you can try to change the new wires.
295  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S17+ x 6 in garage setup - help on: January 21, 2020, 01:39:13 PM
What can I do? I have a garage 17’ x 8’ x 7’ I live in the U.K. I have 60amps spare and 20amp cabling plugs available.

What should I look towards?

Could I have one 73th/s?

I do have a decent size window I could replace with an extractor fan.

Don't bother in the UK even with a S17-Pro

With the VAT (20%) shipping and customs handling charges, just to get one miner into the country, your on a losing streak to start with.

Plus you are paying a load of cash to convert your garage!

Electric prices here are $0.16 per Kw/h

You'll make $7.82 a day mining bitcion, but be spending $8 a day on electric. Yes you could mine some other altcoin and make maybe $0.2 a day but that's transient, and by the time you try and mine enough to exchange it the profit will have gone out of it.

You need to host somewhere electric costs are like at or less than $0.06 per Kw/h like China, the US or Canada. With the downside to hosting in the US is the trump tax, higher import fees than UK VAT (27+%)
296  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Recommended Mining Containers for North America / Canada. CSA&UL Certified on: January 21, 2020, 12:13:24 PM
Off the top of my head you could start with:

1. Power supply and transformer hooked into the grid
2. Internet connection
3. The Land to put it on where
 a) The above services can be supplied at low cost
 b) It is secure from intruders/theft/crime/etc
 c) no-one is going to be bothered by the noise

Trump and co. Smiling  as.we pay that 27.6% on the s17+.

I paid thousands last year.

Mine go to Canada so only 14%
298  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: A tip on buying cheaper mining ASICs from Bitmain (January 2020) on: January 16, 2020, 09:49:58 AM
is it possible to use more than one coupon for the same order ? also there is another type of coupon that has no expiring date can i use it with the temporary one(ends on 31 Jan)

From the web site:
1. Purchase coupon, post-sales coupon and order coupon cannot be used in the same order.
2. More than one purchase coupon/post-sales coupon cannot be used for the purchase of one item.
3. Multiple units of order coupon can be used in the same order as long as the total coupon value is less than the required maximum percentage of the order amount.

You can't use two different types of coupon on the same order, e.g. one with no expire date and one with a limit

You can test this yourself, by putting some miners in the cart, going to checkout and seeing what coupon combination you can use.

There are also individual limits on the coupons with regards to what % discount can be applied. This also is specified during the checkout process.

So say you had $2000 worth of miners in your cart, and you had 2 x $147 10% coupons that expire Jan 31, you wouldn't be able to get more than $200 of the $294 face value of the combined coupons off the order.
