What ransom?  Sounds like you've been hacked.

@rifleman74...we will be "off topic" if we continue to discuss that...SIR.  Suffice to say that 651Hashplant and myself have been banned from this forum and forced to pay a teeny ransom to restore our posting ability.  to get back on topic I will say that KANO POOL ROCKS!!!!

No apparently it is a "thing" https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2705607.0

And here is a link to Theymos discussing it: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=711968.msg8044683#msg8044683

@QuintLeo

Halong has reskinned the graphic user interface in their latest version.

The first version of the DragonMint graphic user interface was exactly like in the current generation Innosilicon miners.

Have you seen these comparisons I have made earlier?

Graphic user interface comparison: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2443327.msg31724407#msg31724407
Control board comparison: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2443327.msg33484292#msg33484292

I think the reason why offordscott has zoomed in the miner status page view might be that he doesn't want the logo "INNOSILICON" be visible in the picture.

Personally I don't care who makes them for Halong, as long as they are affordable, perform close to spec and are reliable.

585  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: March 30, 2018, 06:27:03 PM
Currently my experience is similar to other manufacturers in the past, in that their ability to get the paperwork done and tracking numbers entered into their system is lagging behind the shipments. Heck even bitmain still does it now and then.

Now I may be being very generous to them, but that's the feedback I am getting from their support team, and given ck's involvement I'm more inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt that the hardware exists.

Obviously hardware existing is no guarantee of it arriving in a timely manner.

Unfortunately mine are not arriving into my hot little hands but going to a datacentre, I'll ask them for some unboxing and setup photos/videos if they have a chance.

I've had the tracking information emailed to me. I know most of you know I've been mining a long time, so as soon as they hit the ground I'll get some photos of the unboxing made and the setup even if I have to pay support costs to do it Smiley
586  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [7 PH] ckpool.org ZERO FEE SPLNS no registration mining pool on: March 30, 2018, 04:14:48 PM
Hello everyone, it's about an hour or so that I'm on this pool .. I have 1x gekkoscience 2pac

At the beginning I started with difficulty 4000 (4K) then the pool brought me "Diff 40" and finally "Diff 20" .. what difficulties can I enter for my hardware Huh?

thanks to all, greetings ultimate64

All of that is outlined in the official support thread-

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1764803.0

but since it is inherent in this pool, it is better to talk about it here

You don't need to enter any for your hardware, you just let the pool automatically adjust it.

588  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 1% fee solo mining USA/DE 247 blocks solved! on: March 28, 2018, 05:21:27 PM
Hello friends,

we are new to solo mining. We currently have 5 Antminer S9 connected. What do you think about our chances? Is it good idea ? Which period for a block should we expect? We have on average 60 TH.

Thanks and have fun. Wink

IF there were no increases in difficulty, which is almost impossibly unlikely, then 60TH would take  2868.73 Days to mine one block.

However difficulty tends to increase by aprox 5-15% every 10 days or so, so in that case the likelyhood is never.

Of course you could get lucky and mine a block in the next second or so.......

That's the nature of luck and mining. More hashpower increases the probability but not the luck.

how do you know when your miner found a block?

Been using kano pool for awhile now, but still unsure about the interface...

I am using APC 5 KVA XL, its a European model and i am using it to power 2 S9 and to other miners as explained making a total of 4, this can easily support upto 5000 watts although officially APC claims 4000 watt.

Even otherwise i switched off all machines and tried running single S9 and same issue.

OK if you switched off the other machines and just ran a single S9 and still had the problem then its probably something to do with the S9 that doesn't like the power switching. Could be all S9's thing is most people probably haven't experienced the problem you are running into as most people don't run miners on UPS' because, well, its hard enough trying to get a return on your investment on the miners alone without having to get it on a EUR 1600 UPS as well Smiley

I still wonder why you are noticing it so much, do you have many power outages in your location?

I am using APC XL heavy duty ups
i am using APW3++ Bitmain official power supply

AFAIK APC Smart-UPS XL only comes in 1500VA or 3000VA neither of which would be enough to run the 2 S9's on their own let alone with the other kit on there as well. The APC Smart-UPS XL Modular 3000VA only provides 2500W.

Why is your power switching on the UPS so often?

Could be the UPS isn't providing enough juice for all the miners, you could try:
a) getting a second UPS
b) moving some of the other miners off the UPS temporarily
c) just shut down the L3+ and A3 miners and test the power switching scenario on the UPS with just the S9's connected.

For some reason wasn't able to connect bitmain s9 to kano.is. Are there any restrictions?

If you can't connect on port 3333 try port 80, 81, 443 or 8080 as alternatives.

Perhaps post your configuration here so we can hopefully spot the problem

well tried 80, 443 too, also german link and the one for asic tube but nothing and network to kano.is but miner s9 just stopped giving information.

https://imgur.com/508cclP

Also how long did you wait? It can take up to 10-15 minutes for a S9 to start hashing after you have changed configuration settings.

Longest is about 5 minutes for one of my miners...no idea why it's always slow to "re-connect" to any pool.  It also hashes the fastest so who knows?

s7's and Avalon's are almost instant.

I think the length of time is dependent on if its having any trouble with any of the strings or individual asics. Sometimes I've seen the log files spin through multiple attempts at different frequencies (maybe depending on temps) to get started, thats when its taken the longest. I just brought it up because its not "instant" which might be what the op was expecting.

Good luck helping them mine empty blocks Cheesy

The majority of people don't care about empty blocks, about bitcoin's network "health" and the future of the cryptocurrencies in general. All they need from mining are regular payouts. That's why they prefer Antpool and other Chinese crap. That's why every little miner is important here at your pool. Not only those who was lucky enough in this embodiment to deploy 5 or more Phs of hashing power... That's why I was talking about at least little additional reward for blockfinder even with 20-30 Th, as soon as you decided to attract more hashing power here.

I'm not a mulitipetahash miner. And I'm not saying this is a regular occurrence on kanos part, but maybe you should just trust in the man who runs this pool and who ahs contributed so much to this technology space. (See below on the last block i found here)

Yes, but why should pools change their protocol because one mining company says so? Why not make chips that hash at their advertised rates, and then ASICBOOT if your pool supports it to get up to higher rates?
Pools are designed to make money from miners. Do you think pools will refuse to implement it and shut out potential new customers?

Will CKPool support it day 1?
It's already deployed on both ckpools Smiley I'm mining with an experimental sample already on ckpool.org

Do you have any real numbers of how it performs with Asicboost on or off on the pool?

Cheers
It's an engineering sample so not final silicon but this one is doing 15.5TH. I don't have it here so cannot comment on power draw. It's 1/4 speed trying to mine on a pool without asicboost if I force it to but basically it will currently refuse to mine on a pool that doesn't support it for now.

So here's the rub, and I'll quote my question from another thread.

Thing that I'd like some clarity on, ASICboost was only suppost to improve the efficiency of a miner, not its hashing speed, so it did the same but used less power. Overall of course this would lead to either being able to push the miner faster for the same power usage (if the hardware could handle it) or running more individual miners but using the same power. (e.g. if it gave a 25% reduction in power, you could run 5 miners for the power you used to run 4 miners)

Is this new version of overt ASICboost different? There are hints that the Dragonmint miners will only run at 1/4 speed on non-asicboost pools. That sort of doesn't line up with how we all thought ASICboost

Kano have asic boost?  Huh
Nope. Neither do you Smiley
Only Bitmain has AsicBoost in their new miner they've been running in their mines since the beginning of the year.
Sorry, I know this continues being kind of offtopic, but
what do you think about Halong Mining saying that the DragonMint T1 also has the AsicBoost in the miner?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2443327.msg31761228#msg31761228

If you believe Halong actually having a miner in the first place... Wink
Yeah, until they actually produce one and people have them mining ... who knows Smiley

Apparently the code for overt Asicboost is already live in slushpool and ckpool and prototype dragonmints have been Mining at both pools. There is a lot of interest in this new miner, and if it's going to only perform at spec on pools with overt Asicboost support then it would be worth looking into Including the code (once checked and approved) in kanopool I would have thought. Although I already suspect kano has seen the code by now and has already considered all this as it's already in Ckpool git https://bitbucket.org/ckolivas/ckpool

I just went over to the thread in mining speculation ... ck says it's real and is testing on ckpool (maybe no more disappearing block rewards, eh?)

Guessing that Bitmain will also start enabling ASICboost on miners they sell ( hello S9+? )

I wonder if in reality all the chinese pools had already enabled this anyway, seeing as difficulty has more than doubled since December ... maybe Kano would be able to enable ASICboost and create an open miner that works on Avalon and Bitmain devices ?

Meanwhile... probablities suggest we ought to get the next block before the weekend Smiley

MINE ON!

It requires hardware support, so you can't add it to miners that dont support it in hardware. Also there is a difference between Overt (Dragon) and Covert (bitmain) versions of Asicboost so unless bitmain add overt to their miners it won't help them.

Thing that I'd like some clarity on, ASICboost was only suppost to improve the efficiency of a miner, not its hashing speed, so it did the same but used less power.
