41  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Make UPNP enabled by default? on: June 12, 2011, 06:02:26 PM
UPnP is one of the most insecure networking protocols designed, any external router that supports it, is just asking for their network to be comprimized.

This doesnt help or hinder bitcoin in anyway, but in the future you are far less likely to find a router that supports it inherently.

 Grin

Care to elaborate on the vulnerabilities of UPnP?

As a side note - I vote yes to enabling UPnP by default

Hz = Hertz = unit of frequency, equal to one cycle per second
H = Hash = a fixed-size bit string

Just because I have liberty to show you my shit coming out my ass, doesn't mean it's very useful and I am courteous enough not to waste your time forcing to watch it

Click on Start and type %AppData% and then enter

If that's a macbook pro you're trying to mine on, get yourself Diablo miner and follow the instructions on the wiki
https://github.com/Diablo-D3/DiabloMiner
46  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Error Loading blkindex.dat on: June 11, 2011, 09:53:05 PM
It's in
C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin

Before you try anything else, back up your wallet.dat.
Then find blkindex.dat and blk0001.dat in that directory and delete them

Use this guide
http://www.infosecramblings.com/backtrack/backtrack-4-usbpersistent-changesnessus/
except for the second partition name choose live-rw instead of casper-rw

50  Other / Meta / Re: The solution to the moron problem. on: June 11, 2011, 06:38:56 PM
I am usually all for no regulation at all, but this is getting stupid.

My solution would be to restrict new topic creation for new users on certain boards, like Bitcoin discusion, Economics and Trading. Also, limiting post count first few days/weeks after registration probably would be a good idea.

edit: oh, and ban idiots for a day or two
51  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Creating a vault on CD on: June 11, 2011, 05:47:25 PM
Any data you care about, you should have at least 3 copies.
Apart from the above, your plan might have a slight catch. CDs and DVDs fail more often than you might think. If you leave your wallet on it for couple of years, you might find your CD/DVD blank.
52  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: PSU-Power Supply questions on: June 11, 2011, 02:29:27 PM
Depends on the power supply. Some have enough pcie connectors, some don't. If they don't, most of the cards have 4pin->6pin pcie converters included
53  Economy / Economics / Re: What will happen if the bitcoin economy goes to 500.000.000? on: June 11, 2011, 12:12:39 PM
if BTC reaches 500m and nobody is accepting it as payment (aside from the niche market) i see it hitting 50m a few days after that.

And I see dead people

55  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Uh ok Bitcoin Client doesn't work ... ? on: June 10, 2011, 11:27:45 PM
You are not connected to the network.
If you're on 32 bit system, open cmd and run:

Code:
cd c:\program files\bitcoin
Code:
bitcoin.exe -addnode=69.164.218.197 -addnode=64.22.103.150 -addnode=173.242.112.53 -addnode=178.79.147.99 -addnode=184.106.111.41 -addnode=91.85.220.84 -addnode=173.224.125.222 -addnode=86.5.50.90

if it's 64bit system replace "program files" with "program files (x86)"
56  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: transaction with 0 confirmations for too long on: June 10, 2011, 10:53:26 PM
If it's a low amount and you didn't include a fee, it has low priority. It will get there eventually.
You can check if it has been broadcasted to the network at http://bitcoincharts.com/bitcoin/

The interesting thing is that only Hero members got this so far. I think someone's harvesting IPs of more vocal members of this forum
