401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMO] EmotiCoin on: June 14, 2014, 02:10:06 PM
Just checked this thread for the first time in weeks, oh my this coin needs some help! Just saying "no one is mining" as an explanation for the problems is only half the truth. Who should mine EMO at current reward/difficulty level considering the coin's almost non existant worth?

There appears to be only a few people mining and trying to keep the network alive - cheers to you whoever you are - but due to the high difficulty the blockchain is basically stuck.

Instead of 1 minute blocktimes the blockchain currently needs many hours for a single block. At this rate the next adjustment isn't due until several weeks from now! This needs to be fixed by implementing a much faster difficulty adjustment method (like Digishield or DGW2).

Does the dev (kreibich, right?) intend to do anything to help what remains of the EMO community out and fix this coin? Because just throwing a few more mining rigs at this chain won't be enough. Maybe a plan like PNDs, like halinyo mentioned, could point a way out too.

I can understand investors getting impatient, but I cannot understand senseless dumping of coins. I mean selling hundreds of coins in one single swoop down to almost .002 is just plain stupid. No other word to describe it. UNO support in the .004 area is clearly still intact. Why take a pointless 50% loss? Want to sell your UNO? Fine, you've got many takers here! But be smart about it.

Easy to promote UNO:

Please click the word "Survey" and then choose "Other" and key-in "Unobtanium" in this link for the new BTC/DOGE exchange Expresscoin (soon to rival Coinbase in the US):

http://expresscoin.com/faq

It's really simple.

Thank you.

this is the link to the survey: https://www.formstack.com/forms/?1719117-0lbiRIgZWM

everyone here should go there and write in Unobtanium
Done.

170  Cool

hit 186 on crapsty

we're prety much bang on 3 satoshi.. that's where this coin was when I first started buying it lol..
That's the price range Karm started out at IIRC. 3-4 sat, then it went as high as 10 sat, before slowly dropping down to 1 sat and below.

For some reason Cryptsy always spikes higher than Mintpal. I used to trade there a lot, but I've been encountering too many bugs and glitches lately (several deposit and withdrawal problems) to feel comfortable any longer...

Exactly! Please, don't destroy this coin by changing it simply because others are doing it.
I don't think anyone is even considering that, don't worry! AFAIK the only changes that are coming anytime soon are consmetic and/or security related, as announced by Bryce and Blazr2.
Nobody here is a fan of PoS and merged mining is only a thought experiment at this point. There's no reason to rush anything, the rumors of the death of PoW coins have been greatly exaggerated.

Just look at KARM, a straight scrypt litecoin clone with too high initial inflation. Was dumped almost to death, has no "special features" or anything, but a great community, dedicated devs and a vision. Up 1000% over the past 2 months, not a pump and dump. And you know what? The coin is still dirt cheap! Why? They're creating an ecosystem around their coin. Instead of spending their time following trends and building useless anonymous chat clients and other bling bling into their wallet, they create services that have the potential to *really* bring their coin to the masses. They're quietly and almost unnoticed going to blow the doors wide open for anyone to get and use their coin. That is really the holy grail for any crypto IMO. If people have to use an exchange to get and/or use your coin you're doing it wrong. That means we're all doing it wrong right now.

I have no single shred of inside information, but Bryce often talks about creating an economy in the context of NAUT, Dirac and the Blake256 coins. An ecosystem of coins that can each fill specific economic needs. Maybe UNO can/will be a part of this ecosystem of coins. That could give UNO a long-term purpose and add lots of value.

That is the easy way out though, waiting for others to add to UNO's value for us. What we really need to do is create value ourselves. How? If I had the answer I wouldn't be playing Mr. Smarty Pants here. I'm just stating the obvious and hoping one of you smart ladies and gentlemen has a suggestion. Wink

Oh là là, someone is serious about dumping Karma down again. >420LTC worth sold just now...

edit: Let me rephrase that. I don't neccessarily mean someone wants to "manipulate price down", could be just profit taking. Haven't seen that yet on this big scale on Karma though...

I guess that means we'll have to wait a bit longer for our BC market, eh? Karma would need to *hold* 140 for a while before that comes...
409  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ๑۩۞[ANN][ ₭ARM] Karma & Karmashares // Launched search engine @lill.com on: June 10, 2014, 09:01:08 AM
Lets lighten up the mood a bit.

How much $$ would you all had now if only you never sold a single Karma coin?

Or donated or sent to KarmaShares or sold, would have around 900 LTC.  GO KARMA!!

If people didn't sell or donate their Karma it wouldn't be as high as it is today so its a moot point.

you can have all the gold in the world. but if you don't have anyone to share and trade it with.. it is worthless.

riddle me this... what was the price of land when the first human walked out of Africa 60+ thousand years ago?

Of course. The reason that karma was cheap and pow is easy were the only way this coin was moving up progressively and healthy. As it moved up slowly it is building stronger foundation support.

Of course , people dropping their huge bags is also a very important event that we are glad it happened. My thread was not to intimidate other coin holders, just to lighten up the mood and have some people share their story. Its amusing to read them. That's all i am seeking out of this. Like AG confirmed he could have netted $40 000 now. And it will be a story that will change into $40 million soon. Perhaps $billion. It will be our "$10,000 pizza " story of bitcoin Tongue

C'mon karmaniacs. Share if you did a huge sell
No single huge sell from me, but I did sell about 20 million yesterday. Or rather someone bought my - as I thought at the time - rather high placed (50% over market price) sell order while I was away. I also sold a little Karma during the first rise to 71 litoshi last month and rebought part of that at a lower price. Intend to do that now too, if price drops a bit further. I tend not to actually "buy" or "sell" the coins I believe in. I place strategic orders and wait for them to get filled. I make less stupid mistakes that way. Wink

The single biggest dent in my crypto portfolio so far are the coins I exchanged for Karmashares. Would be worth quite a nice sum at today's prices. No idea when I'm gonna see my ROI on those, but I still feel good and positive on that investment.

This coin has so far been very good to me, I'm glad my instincts were right and I decided to buy more instead of sell down at 10 litoshis. I've got the majority of my remaining holding (>75%) stashed away and won't touch it for a long time. The rest is up for trading and maybe a little profit taking as we climb higher in the marketcap rankings.

I've said it like 10x before, but kudos to kosmost and team, you guys rock. I may not be able to commit to one of the bigger projects, but am trying to help where I can: making donations, playing the Karmaworldcup, helping with ptman's game, trading the coin and just generally being active in the community.
410  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Unobtanium Info & Discussion on: June 08, 2014, 11:00:16 PM
Sure. When we first launched Un, it was set up to make 6 halvings before hitting minimal reward, however as of version 0.9.1 that was revised to produce a meaningful number of coins until the 15th halving and then a minimal reward of .0001 that would persist for ever (or 51millionish blocks, whichever comes first). The breakdown is as so:

You can see Un will be mineable for a long time to come.
Thanks for clearing that up. That makes more sense that the numbers I remember from the old website.
411  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Unobtanium Info & Discussion on: June 05, 2014, 04:41:15 PM
Hey guys!

I wanted to present an idea to the community, and to hear your thoughts.

I use a fantastic program called FreeFileSync. At work, I have an IronKey USB thumb drive that I sync to a folder on my work computer. The work computer runs Windows 7. I then sync the thumb drive to my laptop, which runs Fedora 20 (No Dropbox-style Internet syncs are allowed at my job). For the longest time, I could not fine a solution that could do the sync reliably, EVERY time, without any errors. I recently found FreeFileSync, and it does the sync perfectly every time. The FreeFileSync version for OpenSuse works perfectly on Fedora.

I was thinking about emailing the developer of FFS, and offering to send him 50 UNO for his outstanding work. I considered offering him an even higher donation if he would put an UNO logo and donation address on his homepage. That way, more people would learn about UNO.

Then I got to thinking, the open source development community would probably get really fired up about UNO if more people offered to donate UNO to their projects. This could lead to a viral campaign which could result in UNO becoming the de facto standard for donating to open source projects. Devcoin is trying to do this too, but I think that UNO would be very attractive to developers since it is rare. That could help us gain traction. In the end, UNO could become the default coin of the open source development community.

What do you guys think about getting together as a community to make a MUCH larger offer to a really popular open source project? In exchange for the donation, they would put an UNO logo on their homepage, which would link to the new UNO website, and their UNO donation address. In effect, we would be paying them to bring a lot more notoriety to UNO.

If we decided to do this, I pledge a minimum amount of 50 UNO to the effort.  If you like this idea, please respond to this thread with an amount that you would pledge, and what open source projects you would like to donate to. Off the top of my head, here are the ones that I would love to donate to: Libreoffice, FreeFileSync, Notepad++, Firefox, GIMP, Gedit, and Freemind.

Thank you for your time! Smiley

Philogus
I like that idea!

In practice the main problem I see is that only very few people worldwide (like maybe a few hundred?) really own any UNO, so it would boil down to a couple of core individuals (us) that send tips in the hope it promotes visibility of UNO. Right now the hurdles for entry into UNO are still pretty high.

I know a couple of tech savy people that mainly stayed out of cryptocurrencies so far, because they couldn't get their hands on BTC in an easy enough manner. Even for BTC that barrier of entry is still pretty high in some places. To get UNO to a "newbie", they would have to first get BTC, then register on an exchange and trade it for UNO there. Lots of hurdles.

IMO we'd need an easier way for people to get into UNO first, before we attempt such a "marketing" strategy (that reaches beyond the established crypto-sphere).

Any other opinions?

Announcement: Our KARM/BTC Market Returns

Although I am not opposed to this move, I think this news will have very little impact in the medium term 3-6 mths.

for starters karma will need to hold over 140 litoshi before the BTC market is opened.
and then if the BTC market opens up and the volume is too weak then Mintpal will simply bump it back down to the LTC market again.

I think unless we can get the market cap over 2 million dollars (where people begin to take the coin a little more seriously) then this move really is just fiddling around the edges.

I'm almost ashamed to say this, as I am a huge believer and fan of Karma, but I think the current value is pretty fair. We're not dramatically undervalued any longer. Sure, the potential is much higher - easily as high as DOGE during its heights (200+ sat) -  but that is truly long term thinking and the price cannot and should not reflect this yet.

We'll see how this plays out.

+1 for merged mining
-1 for pos
Yeah, agreed. Which currencies might be candidates for merged mining though?

Can I Become a Shareholder Without Exchanging Coins?

Of course. Starting around May 11 if you keep 10,000,000 coins in your wallet for 30+ days you'll automatically be eligible for membership. (In fact, we'll put you down as a shareholder even if you forget to notify us.) The exact date this will begin will be posted to this website.

is it required to have the wallet online ?
or is it enough to have it on your online wallet?

PoC is not PoS, the wallet doesn't have to be online. It is less of a technology, but rather an economic concept.

Shares for holding Karma are determined based on blockchain data, not an actual wallet functionality. Similar to what CAIx is doing with their "Masternodes".

edit: It needs to be a "real" wallet address though, not an exchange address.

hey @FK, are you aware that the rich list is down?

Yeah, it's irritating. The rich list was a popular service. I paid .1 BTC a month ago to bring it up. Agran wants another .1 btc to rebuild it.

Agran: I think that everything will be all right. I crashed the server, it rarely happens.

Learnminer suggested I talk with Fairglu who runs Chainz. Here's that exchange:

>Hello
>The rich list for #Unobtanium went down 2 weeks ago. What kind of incentive would you need to be able to host a UNO block explorer and rich list?

Fairglu:
Hi, I charge essentially for the hosting costs so I don't run it at a loss, or 0.2 BTC per year per blockchain.

---

The Chainz explorer and rich list is nice. See what they've done for AUR:  http://chainz.cryptoid.info/aur/#!rich
UNO doesn't really need another explorer, but this is a nice service. In addition to an explorer & rich list, they also provide a hashrate distribution/extraction chart.
They seem like they would be a reliable. The cost is .2 btc per year.

Check out Chainz and let me know what you think.

I'm already .1 btc into the old rich list with nothing to show after 1 month. Who would go in on Chainz with me?

Considering the quality of the service and the fact that it would actually cost less, I'd say go for it. If you post us a donation address you won't have to pay for it on your own either, promised! Smiley

I watched the video below today. It compares Peercoin to Bitcoin. Are we planning to add Proof-of-Stake to UNO at some point?

https://www.youtube.com/embed/TjL2AgCQDJ0
I don't know, I don't really see UNO as a PoS coin. Although it does somewhat fit with the "investment" angle a bit, an annual interest (even if low) clashes with the key selling point that UNO is limited to 250k tons (or 250,000 coins).

I would actually only consider it as an emergency option. If UNO value remains stagnant then after the next one or two halvings we might run into the situation where not even UNO diehards can justify mining it anymore. Then the network could become too weak to remain secure. In that case a transition to PoS might be an option.

Any other opinions?

Can you post BTC and UNO addresses for community to chip in for this Chainz deal?
Good idea. I'd certainly chip in, no need for FK to pay for all of this out of his own pocket!

Hi there guys. I spoke with fallingknife and voluntaryist500 about designing and minting a physical coin for UNO. I've since done this pre-viz of what I had in mind. An ingot/bar with mix of burnished and hard finish. I have not decided on the material or plating, I have some other ideas that I will probably get samples for before going ahead with full production though.

It would function as a private key/wallet as well. On the obverse side you would be able to apply a private key (which you can make yourself) and there will be a tamper proof hologram which I am currently designing.

Any input and feedback or ideas are welcome! Smiley Of course payment will be available in UNO Wink

Looking good! Will you offer shipping to Europe?

There's definitely a lot more sell pressure now than there was before. My low buy orders get hit a lot more often compared to before the announcement.
LOL, its always the same. The moment I write something like this trends change. None of my orders got hit the entire day. Oh well...
