401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KOBO] Kobocoin - A West African peer to peer micropayment system on: February 09, 2015, 01:06:15 PM
This phone is what I'm talking about when I say super cheap nokia:

http://www.theverge.com/2015/1/5/7493291/Microsoft-nokia-215-cheapest-internet-phone

Quote
"It costs just $29 pre-tax and is aimed at emerging markets, offering customers 29 days of battery life on standby, a dual-SIM option, a built-in torch, and FM Radio. There's also a 2.4-inch, 320 x 240 display, a 0.3-megapixel camera, and Bluetooth connectivity. Crucially, however, Microsoft say the 215 is their "most affordable Internet-ready entry-level phone yet," offering the Opera Mini mobile browser and a limited array of pre-installed apps including Twitter, Facebook, Messenger, and Bing Search."

I can't get the wallet to sync on windows (0 peers); I can't find any kobocoin.conf file so far (tried appdata/kobocoin)
Hi, try AppData/Roaming/Kobocoin/kobocoin.conf

Thanks,
that worked.

  • What has the biggest market share in the mobile space in Western Africa? (i.e. Android, iPhone etc)
  • Will Kobocoin target super cheap phones (i.e. the recent Nokia phone that is $37 and can use the internet?) as well as a wide variety of android devices (i.e. wide adoption)?
  • What solution will Kobocoin be implementing to help mobile users? Will you be submitting the coin to preexisting, free wallets such as Coinomi on Android?
406  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SEND] Sendcoin & SendChat Messaging App Crowdfund [BLOCKTRUST] on: February 08, 2015, 09:46:31 PM
I got 0.1 btc (still to confirm) so far I think I'm owed 0.3 in total (looks promising anyway)

Gems developer update - android build 2.1.7(410)

1. Our major concern during the last two weeks is improving Counterparty stability. We currently rely on Counterparty servers in order to perform tasks like opening a new wallet, sending coins, etc. The Counterparty dev team updates their servers and API very frequently and these changes aren't always backwards compatible. Then we suddenly find ourselves with broken API and rushing to publish fixes because important features suddenly stop working. Our plan of action is to launch a cluster of our own XCP nodes (they are open-source after all) and rely on them instead. This way, we will control the rate of updates and can make any updates to our client before the servers change. We have successfully set up a staging environment for this and will soon after some QA deploy it to production as well.

2. We finished development for unsolicited user support - meaning the ability to search the global user database of GetGems users according to their GetGems username and start a conversation with them without knowing their phone number. [In the future, our model dictates that sending unsolicited messages to users who don’t necessarily want to receive them, will cost GEMZ (this is part of the attention economy model)].

3. We are thinking of ways to increase our user base and make the GetGems app more viral. The first method we're working on is handling sending of coins (GEMZ/BTC) to contacts who don't have the GetGems app (they are using a regular Telegram client). These users will receive a Telegram message saying that their contact is trying to send coins and they have to download the app in order to collect them (download link added). This feature is currently in QA.

4. Another very exciting feature we're working on is integration with an amazing 3rd party sticker provider. This opt out feature will display context-aware stickers during chat (even animated GIFs) which makes chatting through GetGems much more visual and fun. When these special chat messages are sent to users who don't have a supporting client (like the GetGems client), they'll receive a message urging them to download the GetGems app in order to see the content of the message. We are currently in the middle of the integration phase which we expect to be finished within less than week.

5. We currently allow several GetGems accounts to be opened on the same phone number (useful in case somebody loses the passphrase and has to open a new account). This behavior causes an inconsistency when sending coins to users by text message, in case the receiving user has opened several different accounts (wallets) on the same phone number - which wallet should receive the coins? We altered the current behavior to send the coins to the latest account but this fix is temporary. We're working on a more robust solution where the receiving user will provide the sending user with the current wallet that is in use by their app.

If Gemz supported GIFs without the need for any extra plugin etc it would easily beat most of what is in the market today.

I would also like to see embedded YouTube videos (or thumbnail/title display of youtube video that is linked).

Is there plans for the wallet to use Java 8? Right now it doesn't seem to and Sun depreciated Java7.

just edit the bat file in the installation directory and update the references from java7 to java8 or whatever is installed on your machine.

This should really be made far clearer on the BURST website, original post on this thread and within the installation itself because I (alongside many others) have already asked the same question numerous times.

BTW, if anyone has some XCP here to sell I am willing to buy XCP for 50 BTC at the price of 0.0052 BTC/XCP. Escrow is welcome.

I would btw immediately join a foundation for 50$  Grin I would even consider taking more, so that not every average joe can enter but the large investors and early adopters. Not sure if this is a good idea though.

But that goes against the idea of producing tools for the entire world; everyone's opinion should be important, not just those with deep pockets.

Yeah, but with an entry fee of just 50$ a sybill attack might be possible.
Someone with deep pockets could just join the foundation with 100 identities (at a price of just 5000$) and manipulate the political decision processes easily. Or do I oversee something?

Exactly, a $50 fee isn't even a real deterrent for someone who has deep pockets. So why would you attach such an arbitrary amount to membership?

There may be some better way out there to verify that humans are humans, but I haven't heard of it.

request: make the cost for joining the foundation a little cheaper; $50 USD is pretty excessive in my opinion.

I understand the price is an incentive for keeping the process fair and trying to weed out those who would attempt to have 300 accounts, but setting the bar at $50 is a bit ridiculous considering it is a huge amount in many third world countries. And if counterparty's true aim is "to power the decentralization of finance and support the creation of superior, frictionless, decentralized financial tools" then allowing a far larger pool of members

Even as someone who lives in a first world country, I am hesitant to spend $50 on an annual membership. Perhaps making a lottery for those who cannot afford the $50 would be a good way to foster larger community involvement in the foundation.

Another issue is that the bitcoinfoundation itself only charges $25 USD for an annual membership.

And by the way i can´t download any wallet from dev ann post, (maybe the files are deleted, the link follow only to filedropper.com ). Can someone  try?

Thank you for your report,

All links has been updated and link for new beta (OSX version) is also posted in the first post as feedback from private beta has been good so far.

Thank you for your support.

Dev please compile a Windows version of the beta, if you want to be taken serious.
Also do something with the feedback people are giving here, for example, change the total to 10 million and the premine in 6% in the OP, because the 20 million and 3% are not correct, as we have stated before.

I have a tip for you, sell your BTC and buy an iMac then you have a good computer , windows sucks , look at the problems that people have with windows wallet and people who have problems imac
99% windos problems
01 % imac

have patience everything will be fine , I have 100 % confidence in the dev
better good programming slowly
quickly and you get garbage

 Grin

Absolute nonsense; all coins should be released on all OS and Linux/open source should be the first priority.

Q: Any plans to create a Windows Phone version?

I mean desktop Windows  Tongue

Q: Are you planning to have a desktop client?

A: We are considering a desktop/web client. We have not yet decided though on the exact security policy that will be enforced on desktop since desktop apps are naturally less secure than mobile apps (a mobile phone is always in your pocket and can be immediately identified using an SMS). There’s a good chance we will require users to confirm their identity via SMS every time they start a new session. In addition, there’s good chance we will decide that passphrases will not be encrypted locally using a PIN in a desktop app, and instead will have to be typed every time the user wants to send BTC/GEMZ.

I believe there is also a Counterwallet going to be available for desktop which is compatible with gemz.

Desktop wallet should be high on priority so it is a platform agnostic service and not tied in particular to mobile/desktop. This is how services should be in 2015.

You must mean a web wallet cause Desktop wallets are about as far away from platform agnostic as you can get.

I mean Desktop Wallet as in the chat feature and money sending/receiving feature being available via desktop, this could be achieved with an API key or something similar.

Can dev please update as at least to say you're still working on this? Also I still haven't received a response about my wallet issue.

I'm trying to recover a wallet and I get the error message that there is no response from the API server (I switched to 4G from WiFi which has a different ISP and got the same result).

The instructions to recover are not so straightforward; it should be made more clear what I am using to restore the wallet as I have both a password and a 12 word passphrase recorded.

I'm not 100% sure I have my username correct so have tried multiple entries but keep getting the API error (my 12 word passphrase works fine via counterwallet)

EDIT: it worked now that I tried the right username, the wrong username should not give such a vague error as no response from API.

Ur funny, guys. "Hack" Cheesy

Let's recap:

1. http://www.coindesk.com/lead-developers-leave-overstocks-medici-project/
2. Selling begins

Now form ur own opinion Wink

So they seem to have left on good terms and even had a hand in picking their replacements

Quote
Bagley indicated that the remainder of the Medici team is still in place, with new replacements hired by Dermody and Wagner taking over as the lead developers.

What's the panic then? Well, whatever, I added some more XCP to my stash thanks to this dump. Seems irrational.

Same. Judging from chat in Poloniex most people don't even know what half of these currencies do and just sell when others do.
419  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SEND] Sendcoin & SendChat Messaging App Crowdfund [BLOCKTRUST] on: February 05, 2015, 05:43:30 AM
I've generated a deposit address, but have not invested, yet, because I can't get the Sendcoin wallet to sync.  I am stuck on block 10003.  Are there nodes or a recommended config file available?

AFAIK, you don't need to sync the wallet (they've deactivated until the sale is over, you can read this in the past few pages). But better to wait for someone more official to say.
420  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | Android App Released | on: February 04, 2015, 06:58:22 AM
Man someone should fix the app.

The recent issues have been due to Counterparty not the app. The problem is known and being worked on now to bypass Counterparty changing things. Its kind of ironic that they are called Counterparty cause literally that's what they are to Gems at the moment.  Grin

10 years from now you'll be sitting around telling people how "internet money" wasn't built in a day.
