4081  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Seed words on: June 06, 2019, 08:34:27 AM
The seeds words are presented to you when you create the wallet. They are not saved in your Electrum app.
Yes... they are. They are stored in the wallet file if you are using an Electrum seed mnemonic. However, if you imported a BIP39 seed mnemonic, it does NOT store the seed words... only the master private key. You can even open your wallet file and see them using a text editor if your wallet does not have a password and is not encrypted.

But as suggested by OmegaStarScream... the easiest option is: "Wallet -> Seed" from the menus

I am not sure what you mean with 'I shuffled different paper copies'.
I assume the OP has several different seeds written on different pieces of paper and has mixed them up... and now no longer knows which is their actual seed. Roll Eyes

You didn't add address in the signed message. With your bc1 I cannot verify it, on the other hand it seems that you have singed the message with this address > 1J2JfPuYP3j19Vn3Qjwyi3tV2p9UKXSpXH it verifies here
You need to sing the message with the staked address.

It works fine if you "massage" the message a little bit Wink

4083  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: About Block Bitcoin with 1 transaction... on: June 06, 2019, 01:30:11 AM
usually this only happens if two blocks are found relatively quickly in succession, so it probably isn't the culprit here. this block was found 4 minutes after the previous so i'm curious why it was empty.
I think you mean 4 seconds Wink

... It's rare?
It's simply an empty block... It isn't super common, but it does occur relatively often.

Quote
How possible happend with that? Then how about reward miners?
Miner still gets the full 12.5 BTC as the block reward. They just don't get fees. But the actual block reward is the main component of the total reward anyway... a lot of blocks are in the 13 BTC reward range even with fees... so miner is only "missing" ~0.5 BTC for mining an empty block in that instance.

4085  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Questions in the mind of a Beginner. on: June 05, 2019, 09:17:00 PM
I wish I can also know from you about adding data to the Blockchain; how to add those data and in which format and for how long? Should I pay additional fees for this?
You use the OP_RETURN opcode... it allows for adding up to 80 bytes worth of data into an (unspendable) output. Services like OMNI use it.

More details on the specifics of OP_RETURN here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Script#Flow_control
And a pretty indepth explanation of how it is used (although it is missing the revert to 80 bytes that happened late 2015) is here: https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/q/29554
And a list of recent OP_RETURN transactions is here: http://coinsecrets.org/

As for fees... well you don't necessarily need to pay any additional fee to use OP_RETURN, but as bitcoin transaction fees are essentially based on the overall data size of your transaction, if you are adding an extra 80 bytes of data, the total fee paid will increase.
4086  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Can Ledger Nano S firmware 1.2 (very old) be updated? Need some help... on: June 05, 2019, 09:47:41 AM
IMPORTANT NOTE: I have never used this package... and I have no idea how it works... the documentation isn't very good, but there is an "updateFirmware.py" script that appears to load a new Firmware to the device.

Having said that, perhaps you could use the LedgerHQ "Python Loader" package which seems to be capable of updating the firmware: https://github.com/LedgerHQ/blue-loader-python
Unfortunately, I have no idea where you can actually get firmware files from. Perhaps try and post on the Ledger Reddit, the Ledger support peeps seem fairly active there: https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/

Although it should be noted, that most of their responses to users stuck on firmware 1.2 were to open a support ticket and mention that they were stuck on firmware 1.2. Roll Eyes

@HCP
one cannot be banned for the re-establishment of a sentence.. is absurd
it is definitely exaggerating, like witch hunt
Actually... it isn't absurd. It is the very definition of plagiarism:
Plagiarism is the "wrongful appropriation" and "stealing and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions" and the representation of them as one's own original work. Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty and a breach of journalistic ethics.
Just because it isn't an exact copy or word for word copy/paste... doesn't mean it isn't plagiarism.

Indeed... from the wikipedia article, #3 and, to a lessor extent, #10 of Common forms of "student" plagiarism would apply here:
Common forms of student plagiarism
According to a 2015 survey of teachers and professors by Turnitin[40] there are 10 main forms of plagiarism that students commit:
...
3. Re-writing someone's work without properly citing sources.
...
10. Relying too heavily on other people's work. Fails to bring original thought into the text.

how can understand if is another sentence and not same with synonymous or is a spinbot?
Because I speak, read and understand English. It is blatantly obvious to any native speaker that these posts have been made with the use of a spinbot or simple replacement with synonyms... which, as per above, is still plagiarism.

4091  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Question about Electrumx Server on: June 05, 2019, 12:34:13 AM
  • In your main OS, create an unsigned transaction.
  • Copy the unsigned transaction onto an USB
  • Boot your tails, insert the stick, mount it, and check / sign the transaction with your 'old' electrum wallet
The only issue I can see with that solution is that you might run into problems because the "old" Electrum wallet is unable to open and/or sign transactions created with a newer version of Electrum.

I vaguely recall seeing users having issues previously due to the Transaction format changing and/or attempting to use different versions for online/offline. Indeed I did a quick test, and couldn't get 2.9.3 to open transactions created with 3.3.6 Undecided
4092  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How to access My Ledger Nano S Portfolio? on: June 04, 2019, 10:55:06 PM
With a wallet that old, I'd guess your addresses started with a "1". So, in Electrum you should have chosen "legacy".  However, if your addresses started with a "3", you should have used "Nested SegWit".

Still, good that you managed to get the funds transferred... your options for updating the firmware (and continuing to use the Ledger device) are going to be a bit limited on Windows 7. It seems a lot of users have issues with Windows 7 and Ledger Live.

You'll probably need to either update to Windows 10 or perhaps run a Linux bootable USB.
4093  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: What happens if you loose LEDGER NANO S or it is damaged? on: June 04, 2019, 10:38:53 PM
The last 8 bit are a checksum, which verify the first 248 bit are correct.
...
Since the mnemonic code basically consists of 248 bit random number + 8 bit checksum this results in 2^248 possibilities.
Just a minor correction... and being a bit of a pedant here... but it's a 256 bit random number + 8 bit checksum, so 264 bits in total.

Still, that doesn't change the fact that the odds of "randomly" picking 24 words from the BIP39 wordlist and finding someone elses wallets are, for all intents and purposes, zero.
4094  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Confirm TX at given block height on: June 04, 2019, 10:11:43 PM
As stated prior, nLockTime can only guarantee that the receiver cannot access the funds until a certain block... but it doesn't stop the sender from simply creating a new transaction to spend them, invalidating the original nLockTime transaction. So, I would agree that 2-of-3 MultiSig seems to be the solution here... using a trusted 3rd party to hold the 3rd private key.

Funds could be put into the multi-sig address now, effectively "locking" them, and when block# 585,500 arrives, the trusted 3rd party can co-sign a transaction to move the funds or release the 3rd key to the appropriate party, so that they can move the funds themselves.

Either that... or just send the funds to an escrow with instructions to not release until block# 585,500

Just out of curiosity... what exactly are you using to sign these messages? Huh As far as I'm aware, Bitcoin Core (aka Bitcoin-qt) does not support signing messages with bech32 (aka "bc1") addresses... and Electrum does not put "Version: Bitcoin-qt (1.0)" in signed messages.

Also, I'd feel far more comfortable with these signed messages, if you included a "datetime" and a more specific reason. Such a generic message could be easily re-used... something like this:
Quote
This is kenzawak

4096  Other / Meta / Re: Appeal ban gefander on: June 04, 2019, 04:34:47 AM
Now the message on reddit is completely changed and my nickname is listed there. I explained the situation as it is, the point is not even that this is my message, but the fact that the message on the reddit was published later. No plagiarism can be, please remove the unfounded allegations of plagiarism.
If that were true... why is the datetime stamp on the reddit article BEFORE the datetime stamp on the forum post? Huh Last time I checked... 28th April comes before 29th April... so, if "the message on reddit was published later", how is it that the Reddit post came some 7 1/2 hours before your forum post? Huh

For the record... both datetime stamps are shown in NZST:

The fact that you've somehow managed to convince the "Miniapps" user to go and edit their old Reddit post to supposedly say it was "inspired" by your Bitcointalk post and then claim your post came first is pretty deceitful, especially when the timestamps prove otherwise. I'd guess it was done out of desperation at trying to avoid a permanent ban. Undecided

However, with all that said... I still agree with DireWolfM14:
I'm pretty touchy about plagiarism, and not likely to cut anyone any slack for padding his post count and spamming the forum by copying the work of others, but if this is why gefander was banned it seems kind of petty.  It's obvious he copied some text and failed to provide a source, but he sort of half-assed announced that's what he was doing.

I wound't call gefander a great contributor to the forum, and it's unlikely he'll have this ban lifted due to his contributions.  However, if this turns out to be an isolated circumstance (as it appears) I would rather see some leniency in this case.
I would agree that it was fairly obvious that gefander just did copy/paste and forgot the "quote" tags. A short temp+sig ban is probably warranted in this case.
4097  Other / Meta / Re: Why was I banned? Legendary Member on: June 04, 2019, 04:07:33 AM
OP was probably edited after the account in question posted his/her opinion on the topic.
While it is a plausible theory... unfortunately, it isn't a correct one. Wink

if you look at the bottom of Page TWO of the thread, there is a post (#40) quoting the OP, which already includes the "EDIT": https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1101336.msg11770815#msg11770815
Software development team here.
We would like to hear from the community what are the most annoying\frustrating stuff you have with Bitcoin and would love to get a solution for ?
Feel free to talk about any problem, even if it seems unsolvable or too abstract (e.g. Bitcoin is not safe enough for the average user)
Edit:
After reading all the replies, I feel confident summarizing that the #1 problem of Bitcoin is probably lack of adoption.
And the main reasons of lack of adoption are probably ease of use and insufficient security.
We are a team of entrepreneurs and software developers that are going to spend the next following months-year on developing a new product.
One of the most appealing markets for us is the Bitcoin market.
We will try to learn us much as possible from your replies and try to tackle the problems head on.
The single biggest problem with bitcoin is making it accessible and useable for any idiot.  Maybe the 2 problems overlap a little.

But automated systems can also lead to serious problems :

Positive contributors can get banned for forgetting to put things in quotes.
Sayings and common phrases could potentially lead to a ban.
Deliberate manipulation of external websites can lead to bans. (It has in the past)
My understanding from the various comments made in the posts in Meta, is that the banning is NOT automated... only the reporting of possible plagiarism is automated. The bans (in spite of the "Autoban" name on the Modlog) are still done by a human who needs to check each report before issuing the ban.

Having said that, anyone reported is at the mercy of the overworked mods... but one would like to think they do more than just click the ban button when a report is received.
4098  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Hhampuz embezzling signature campaign funds from BestMixer on: June 04, 2019, 03:30:41 AM
Further, there is no evidence, and no basis for the assumption he moved the coins for his "security".
And there is also no evidence, and no basis for the assumption that he moved the coins to "embezzle" them.

In my opinion, it's just as likely that he was moving them for "security" reasons as it is that he was doing it to "steal" them. I haven't really seen any real proof to say either way. The only thing that can be stated for a fact regarding the movement of these coins, is that the coins were moved... and the only person that truly knows why this happened is Hhampuz (assuming Hhampuz is the only one with access to the private keys).

4100  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Did i loose my money ? on: June 04, 2019, 02:49:44 AM
The most likely situation i can think is a downloaded an infected Electrum app from its official site.
I highly doubt that... especially if you can verify the digital signature... did you verify the digital signature? Huh

Given that you're "a software developer with more than 20 years experience", verifying the digital signature shouldn't take you more than a few minutes.
