4161  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Block 237226 on: May 26, 2013, 06:12:06 PM
Why the other nodes accepted the block!? I think nodes/miners can have the power to reject such blocks that bother the whole system.

Bitcoin is about transactions. So, no transaction, no subsidy.
Another +1
A new block with less than 50% of your transactions pool? Block rejected

Direct proof of your signature btw

C'est quoi de la fausse monnaie ?
C'est plutôt escroquer quelqu'un en mentant sur ce que tu lui donnes qui est interdit.

Je vois pas pourquoi on peut te reprocher d'avoir un bout de métal entouré par un autre métal.
4163  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Pywallet: manage your wallets/addresses/keys/tx's on: May 26, 2013, 04:31:45 PM
I completely forgot to work on it, I'll do this in the following hours

Hi
4165  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So.... How long until the government says that terrorists use bitcoins. on: May 26, 2013, 03:20:46 PM
It would be hard for them to actually "stop" the currency, but if the media spins it enough, they could probably pass a couple laws and with enough negative publicity, the value would drop to worthless.

So.... Who's hiring the lobbyists and who's bribing the media?

 Grin
What laws?
Any law killing Bitcoin would kill virtual currencies in online games, maybe paypal and others. Whatever happens that would have huge collateral damage
I can't wait to see them trying

Why not?
Don't agree with testnet bitcoin rules? Make your own and stop crying.

Sure you could just copy-paste bitcoin to start an alt-coin but I think there is a real security issue with alt-coins.
No. Copy-pasting is copy-pasting, no security issues are added. It just requires to fork the bitcoin github repo, change the genesis block/magic bytes and port, and apply every commit that are applied to the official bitcoin repo in the future. This way it's an EXACT copy of bitcoin.

No one is *really* reading the source code.
I do. I know several people who do.
Please don't extrapolate your case to others.

Wrong. Testnet-in-a-box doesn't work for everybody.
+ No service like blockexplorer (no, Abe can't replace it)
+ No stress test (like you love to say) possible if you're the only one
+ You can't test your app/service with beta-testers o

first of all, block explorer is hardly a reliable service. Last time I checked it was down anyway.
btclook.com

You'll get beta testers on the testnet network, when there's more people on it. To do that, it needs some marginal value to attract any sort of volume of users. People need incentive.
I already get them. And currently it requires NOTHING from them to use it.
The whole point of testnet is having few people on it...
Yeah sure, people will use something valuable to test something in which they don't have any interest  Roll Eyes

You're just parasiting the whole principle of testnet
Why not copy-pasting bitcoin with a new genesis block? Why not using testnet2 or testnet1? (these are not rhetorical questions)

Because no one is on testnet2 or testnet1. If the dev's want to start it over- so be it. But the whole point is to experiment with an economy AND the technical possibilities with bitcoin which are anathema for mainline bitcoin.
Nice job ignoring my question about copy-pasting Bitcoin with different genesis block

Then use testnet2 or testnet1. That's the exact same thing except you don't ruin things for developpers.

How exactly are things ruined for developers? The only developers that could possibly be harmed from lots of people mining are...miners. Right? Anything else you might develop would require testers, right? That's the whole point. Testnet is a wasteland. Lots of bitcoin developers haven't even heard about testnet. YES I'M BEING SERIOUS. I would show you proof but I don't want to embarrass them, so you'll have to take my word for it.
Lots of Afghan girls never went to schools. YES I'M BEING SERIOUS. Let's not tell them about it and let's make its access even harder.
Anyway, how is that justify not to copy-paste Bitcoin?

4172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Value of testnet coins on: May 25, 2013, 06:22:14 PM
More and more people on altcoins subforum want to monetize testnet coins.
What will core devs do? Testnet4 or giving up?

Hmm.. why the  heck would they want to do that?

What part are you talking about? Red, Green, Blue?

Besides, it's not useless. Developers can always run "testnet in a box" so it's not like they are screwed because of your service.
Wrong. Testnet-in-a-box doesn't work for everybody.

I'm quoting you:
and then they reset testnet and it's all gone?

Nope, not true. We can all stay on BT3 (Bitcoin Testnet Three) as long as we want. If they reset testnet, it would be testnet four, and we wouldn't have to switch to it unless we wanted to.
Then use testnet2 or testnet1. That's the exact same thing except you don't ruin things for developpers.
4176  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Devcoin on: May 25, 2013, 01:29:23 PM
Does anyone know of a devcoin block explorer that shows blocksizes?

See http://dot-bit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=972 for why I want to check on this.

A modified Abe?

Anyone think of a good R?
Not many R's come to my mind... Only http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R_%28programming_language%29

I repaired the one on the French forum  Smiley

You could have ask for a better translation on the Devcoin thread  Grin

Je suis pas sûr qu'une discussion sur un altcoin soit accepté sur le forum mais je vais traduire
Devcoin est un des plus vieux altcoins (juillet 2011), destiné à récompenser les créateurs, développeurs, artistes, etc.

AFAIK it does not work with encrypted wallets ...
It does. For months.
And deleting transactions never needed encrypted wallets support.

In 'last' resort, you can use pywallet
