Just a heads up that I found 2.10.1 to be stable with my AMD Radeon RX580 cards but 2.10.2 wasn't.

Dan

your settings may need to be trimmed a little;   there were changes on the AMD side of 2.10.2.

1/4 the hashrate on XMR now;  those ASICS really squeeze out the little guys for sure.

If asics/FPGA weren't manufactured and used in such a scandalous way, or if the hardware was cheap;  then they wouldn't be such a bad thing.   Similar to the initial BTC hardware days......    But over the last 2-3 years;  the hardware has become increasingly more shady in terms of price and time to public market...    which drove XMR to act the way they are by forking every 6, and now (from what I read) 3 months....

I notice a nice steady nethash now;  as well as lower nonces in the blocks recently....   This is a true telltale sign that the asics were owning the world for a while.  You could tell when the gigantic FPGA farms were turning on and off for a day or two at a time.   Block times and nethash looking like a roller coaster.   Definitely not normal... all of this is pretty much gone from the network now.

Such a catch 22 of a subject no matter what stance you take.

I am enjoying my profitability jumping way back up on my rig full of outdated hardware that acts as my space heater.

I really hope that ETH devs decide to fork to ProgPOW in the next few months and it will be interesting to see how many ASICs are actually mining ETH.

I am guessing that many of these ETH ASICs are private and were never sold to the general public, only the inefficient ones Bitmain sold which was a similiar efficency like a GPU.

I am guessing that 50% of all ETH hashrate is some form of ASIC or FGPA.

In my eyes;  ETH has always been somewhat shady....

Dev control of network...   Programmable nature of ETH....  smart contracts and the fallacies therein that have been exploited countless times now..... etc...   I could just never trust it.

But;  like other coins;  if it gets hyped enough;  it doesn't matter is nobody actually uses it for any of the root purposes;  people buy into the hype.

I too am interested to see how much of a shady foundation ETH has been sitting on nethash-wise.

Now these are just opinions;  and hopefully I made it clear why they are my opinions.  I do not expect anyone to adopt them, but just simply understand the logic behind them as my stance.

I hope XMR holds true.   I actually believe its ability to be an anonymous coin if used in the proper manner.

Jared is there any working software for my thread rippers?

Im not sure how optimized it is;  but my build of xmr-stak (removed devfee) should work as far as I can tell.   Not sure how many threads for the cpu though;  id check xmrstak.com through all the benchmarks if they have them for cpu;  they list the .txt file configs and hashrates there.   https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3264773

*edit* heres a direct link to the benchmarks page: https://www.xmrstak.com/category/xmr-stak-cpu-configurations/amd-cpu-configurations/amd-ryzen/threadripper/

Looks like for threadripper, it wants one process per each even thread:  cpu 2, cpu4, cpu6, etc......  youll see it in the config examples.

XMR-Stak works with CPU, AMD and Nvidia.  All cards supported from GTX6xx-RTX20xx, and AFAIK, all the AMD cards supported in the blockchain drivers are compatible with XMR-stak as well.   Your old Rx560 works fine =)   It's about the only thing it does for now;   I feel its a good idea to keep it in a rig for testing builds and nibbling some coin to save for very long term.    I dont have any plans to spend my xmr anymore for at least 5-10 years.

If you need help with it LMK =)

I am able to compile just fine with a Nvidia GPU, but I get errors doing it with an AMD GPU. It seems to still want CUDA according to the error message.

What exactly do you have to do differently when compiling with an AMD GPU or even just using the CPU?

see build notes on github for compiling using --flags to disable options....   best bet i can give you.

Did you follow the instructions for being able to compile for openCL?  Install blockchain drivers/SDK, etc?

*note*  2.10.2 is compiling, I will have it uploaded when its finished.

*snip*

I deleted your post;  as it contained links and advertisements that are unrelated to my thread 100%.  This makes me think you are spamming on this website and potentially posting useless content since your post was 100% out of context of this thread; set aside the only correlation that my thread is about a specific build of xmr-stak.  You arent even sharing my build; but in fact one with a reduced devfee that is most likely redirected to your personal account.

To put it simply: I do not know why you posted here, or how it even pertained to this thread.   Please do not do this on bitcointalk.  Its bad manners.

I installed new cuda and affined the threads to one cpu-core, working now. Thx for the tip and your work  Wink

No prob, glad to help.

So I've tried this on my "regular" GTX 1080's and I'm getting hashrates just below 700 per GPU if I use the automatically generated parameters and the ETHlargement pill on the new Cryptonight/r algo.

Has anybody got better results? Any recommendations for tweaked parameters? I've checked that XMR-Stak bench site but they've got very little results for 1080's...

Thats about what I get on my reference style 1080.

you already checked my main recommendation: https://www.xmrstak.com/

You can look up other users settings for optimizations;  I did that for mine and only had to trim a tiny bit on my 1070;  I just left my 1080 on auto since it rarely mines now and is in my daily use PC.

Look at any 1080 ones you see; as well as 1070;  they will probably be similar; just take into count when transposing the 1080 having ~8-10% more computing power.

Ill have the recompiled test version added to this reply once it finishes compiling and being uploaded.  Stay tuned.

Here is the updated file: xmr-stak-JK-2.9.0-1.zip
Be sure you have generated new .txt files for V 2.9.0.

The latest version doesn't work for me with my rx 470 rig. Earlier versions have always worked well for me.
What should I do? Maybe it's the version of the AMD driver?
I'm still using the blockchain version as I haven't noticed any performance increase in the new versions of the driver.

Thanks anyway for your work compiling without fee  Wink

Looks like 2.9.1 will have it fixed.... seems like a known issue being worked on.  some have success, others don't.  I am attempting a recompile with the changes noted in that issue; but i probably wont jump any further down the rabbit hole and just wait for V2.9.1+ if this recompile with the minor changes doesn't help.

After first start i get this error.
"Cryptonight hash self-test failed. This might be caused by bad compiler optimizations."

whats wrong?

5vega rig, working fine with 2.5 until now, do i need to change smth?

could be an issue with a system overclock;   those test functions do work and haven't changed since day one....  They pass on my machines.

could be you need to get your amd.txt from v 2.7.x/2.8.x, and copy the optimizations to the new amd.txt generated by 2.9.0;  so be sure you didnt copy your old .txt files;  you need to edit the new ones.

I had to let mine redo the nvidia and amd txt more than once for some reason.

My test rig:
B250D8P I3-6100 8Gb
GTX 1070, GTX 650Ti, RX560

I did update my video drivers to the current version for Nvidia because of the security bug that was found;  and I left my AMD blockchain drivers alone as its been since I installed the RX560.

Ill zip up and upload the whole folder including my configurations directly from that miner;  and post a link in a minute.  You can see if its any different for you.

I do suggest updating the nvidia drivers though;  the security bug is a real threat; as well as I think needing the updated driver is a reality (I did compile under CUDA 10)

Hi!
XMR-stak-JK 2.9.0 Compiled with no devfee - the file has been deleted.
Can you update the link ?

link updated.  Sorry for the issue.

I missed some DLL files, and needed to re-upload the package;  I thought I had replaced the link; but apparently not.

Compiled and uploaded 2.9.0.  See release notes on github for more info.
437  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gridseed Blade Help? on: March 01, 2019, 03:53:40 AM
I recommend getting a Raspberry Pi and installed Minera, super easy to use.

This is my best recommendation I can give.  It has the propertly built versions of cgminer; and it even has easy places to drop config lines in the web interface;  it also restarts dead miners, etc.

Check out MinerA.  100% worth the effort when it comes to the older gridseed devices.  Its what I personally used to control many many many orbs and blades in the past.

But yeah;  dont expect any real profit from a g-blade these days =)
438  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How do i set up mining monero on a ubuntu 16 server? on: February 24, 2019, 10:09:54 PM
Hello, i have a server from digital ocean that's running ubuntu 16.
I've been interested in the monero currency and was wondering how i would go abouts setting up mining in a pool.
I know how to code in python and know a lil bit of linux.
Any recommendations for pools to join?

go to fireice-uk's github for xmr-stak.

scroll down to "How to compile" and click into there, as well as the subsection on the next page for your particular os.

Be sure before actually compiling xmr-stak, to edit these files in your source:

donate_level.cpp:
set devfee to 0 (I suggest direct donations to fireice-UK rather than devfee as they cost you less in the end for the same amount of donation)

executor.cpp:
set all xmr-stak URL's found to 127.0.0.1 leaving the port numbers the same.  There's one per algorithm.  This is my personal insurance that any potential donate connections time out right away.  They are about half way down the page of code.  Easy to see "donate.xmr-stak.com" or something similar; just replace that bit

once compiled and built,  visit nanopool.   Their XMR pool maintains a healthy hashrate, and payouts have been reliable and consistent for me.

Should be pretty straightforward, and google is your friend for locating both of my references.
