4282  Economy / Economics / Re: How to save money and beat up inflation rate? Options please! on: July 03, 2020, 07:44:38 AM
If it's a local firm, insurance would likely be saved up in your local currency and still be subject to inflation rate. Same with banks that offer low interest returns on amounts saved up and are equally impacted by inflation.

AFAIK, it's quite difficult to find an asset with a static value, which neither falls nor rises overtime. It's either a tangible assets which loses value or a financial asset which has a speculative value, there are also assets with intrinsic value such as landed properties.
No one would want to save up in a depreciating commodity like cars (except in cases of vintage ones) or gadgets and putting your money into assets that are projected to appreciate does not count as saving, but investing. And any investment comes with it's fair share of risks. Bitcoin falls under this category;

However, I am little bit worried as what others had told that putting your money to bitcoin is risky.
Putting your money into any investment venture comes with its fair share of risk. The volatility in bitcoin potentially increases this risk. You can explore other less volatile assets like gold.
Only invest what you can afford to lose
Do your own research
4283  Economy / Economics / Re: Possible solution for economic go-slow on: July 02, 2020, 03:35:09 PM
Drop suggestions how this set back in economy can be improved both in your country and the crypto world.
Cryptocurrency is a decentralized industry and there is no agency to regulate it and implement policies to improve the market. It's also not affected directly as it's digital, but rather as an aftermath of the global crisis which has caused reduced spending.

On a global scale, there are policies that can be implemented to limit the economic crash and stimulate a recovery, and this varies across different nations and markets.
Current global issues include;
• Halt in infrastructure growth
• Loss of jobs
• Reduction of money in circulation (due to the loss of jobs)
All this is caused by the restriction to movement and interactions which virtually affects every sector.
• Global trade has also taken a major hit as production and transport have slowed down.

Possible solutions:
Eliminate fear: greed and fear are two psychological factors that influence the economy. Efforts need to be intensified to slow down the spread of the virus as flattening the curve is essential in improving the economic situation and also the sentiment of the public.

Fiscal policies: these are the policies the government's would make to support SMEs as well as major businesses. This has to be handled cautiously, especially by EMDEs (emerging markets and developing economies). Pumping money into an economy without a commensurate growth to support it will likely create other problems such as loan defaults and inflation.

Infrastructure growth: this would help to boost employment and also enable people to work from home. In my home country, electricity is not very steady and this can limit how much work can be done remotely (also limiting online learning)

The ultimate goal of these measures is to boost spending and creating an enabling environment.

FT West Ham 3:2 Chelsea

Chelsea miss out on an opportunity to move into third place after losing the London derby. Manchester United are now within 2 points of the top four, a better goal difference and in very good form.
Tonight's loss exposed some of the problems in the Chelsea squad and why they should boost their defense if they are to really compete for the title next season.

At the bottom end of the table, the 3 vital points will be pivotal in the race for survival as West Ham move into 16th place and a step closer to the magic 40 points
4285  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The term and word (free coins) is completely wrong on: July 01, 2020, 07:55:38 PM
Unfortunately, there is no such thing as free coins at all
Fortunately really, if any commodity was generated and distributed for free the value drops overtime and if it goes on for long enough it will eventually lose all value.
Time, effort, money and ideas (maybe) are all related and can pass as forms of investments which you would get a ROI from, if invested wisely of course. The only distinction is the quality being offered; we have low and high skilled labor, the latter can put a premium on their effort and time.
In the example you cited, the web designer would certainly earn more than those who are paid to build traffic on the site as it's a higher skilled labor.
~ so, the higher the skill, the more valuable your time is
4286  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining profitability on: July 01, 2020, 06:11:31 PM
I believe it's a system that is designed to balance itself out as the market grows and adapts. We had the third Bitcoin halving in May and just recently the largest number of miners in one purchase was made. This would reflect that despite the drop in mining reward companies still recognize a great potential in the industry and are willing to compete for dominance.

• Bitcoins previous halving happened on the 9th of July, 2016, when the coinbase dropped to 12.5BTC, the price of Bitcoin then was about ~$600.
• The most recent Bitcoin halving dropped it to 6.25BTC at a market price of about ~$9k.
This is a reflection of how the market can adjust to keep the system profitable. Miners also earn from fees paid on transactions.

Maybe what is necessary is a newsletter system for the important news posted in this section - Important Announcements
This option could be enabled by clicking on the notify option below the board page to be notified of all new topics made;

The only drawback is that many users don't use the notify option on the forum, this however needs to be encouraged more as that's how Bitcoin works, you have handle your security consciously as you are solely responsible for your assets.
P.S, congrats on 900 merits

4289  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it a problem if the population decreases while monetary inflation remains... on: July 01, 2020, 08:45:26 AM
If you don't increase your population numbers and you let it slide all the way there is only one end, extinction.
I can understand the need to imcrease the population size, especially in developed countries as one of the factors of the industrialization of an area is a lower birth rate, which is much higher in developing countries. Developed countries also has a much lower death rate and when you factor in other sources of population growth like immigration (ideally from areas which are above replacement fertility rate), a near balance could be achieved.
I can also see countries which are not so attractive to immigrants and with a sub-replacement fertility rate falling in their population size, in which case they would need to stimulate population growth one way or another.

It's a tricky situation, balancing the production, the demand, and the constantly changing needs of the population
It is, and with changes in population across different nations, it is very difficult to find a perfect balance.
4290  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Undo button for transactions on: June 30, 2020, 09:51:18 PM
Much easier solution would be to have some easy way to double check and confirm address of recipient before sending.
Double checking an address would literally take a couple of seconds to do and depending on the device you're on, you can open two tabs and compare both addresses directly, rather than having to check the first and last characters.
Using Bitcoin comes with responsibility as the individual decide to be their own bank.

A third party service to facilitate transactions would come with challenges as the system is no longer trustless and you have to depend on them in addition to the bitcoin network.
4291  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it a problem if the population decreases while monetary inflation remains... on: June 30, 2020, 09:30:09 PM
give more reward to people that are working really hard and producing good/quality basic things but not earning adequately from them. You could reward them with equipments/lands/shops to produce more basic things quickly (as long as they remain of good quality).
Those that aren't really working or producing sufficient good/quality basic things shouldn't be given too much money.
Wouldn't this lead to a highly regulated and controlled market?
If the Laissez-faire theory was practiced to a extent, those who work harder and produce quality products that are needed would earn adequately from it. That's how a free market is designed to work; supply and demand. If one can supply a product to meet the demand they would thrive. Allowing the government decide who should have an edge in the market by getting more resources will break the balance.

4292  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Scam] Elon Musk ETH and BTC Giveaway on: June 30, 2020, 08:12:22 PM
It's almost impossible to report all these scams as quickly as they pop up, and their potential victims are not really on this forum nor would they be really interested in learning about Bitcoin. The scammers simply combine a novel idea and a promise of making double your money with zero effort and let greed do the rest.
The best way to curb this scams is people becoming more alert when on the internet, take everything as a scam until proven otherwise, this way you approach any offer with a certain level of skepticism and are less likely to fall blindly for cheap scam attempts.
4293  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: June 30, 2020, 06:10:59 PM
Barcelona's board has been very poor in their transfer business over the past 3-4 years and it's getting worse. Losing promising talents like; Takefusa Kubo, Mateu Morey and Xavi Simon's while making impractical buys at bogus prices to try and patch up the club (Countinho, Malcom, Dembele, Turan etc).
The effort is obviously geared at getting immediate success rather than grooming a team that can cope after the end of the golden era. The Pjanic-Authur deal is another class example of this. It's unclear who is requesting the transfers as the team seems not to be following the managers desires.

I remember a period when they literally went out with 11 players from youth team majors.
This is a picture from 7 years ago with the entire squad having played in the youth academy;

Recent form might be a clue
I will limit how far back I check their recent form to the last two EPL matches since the restart. They both won one and lost one, and both loses came against the best two teams in the league, so current forum is pretty level based off matches won, I however think C.Palace has a bit more momentum and are in a bit better shape.

Both teams are lacking depth in the attack due to injuries, but Palace has a much better defense and with so many upcoming tough fixtures for them they'll want to take all points from this one to keep their Europe dream alive.
CP win?
I can see this happening, a 1:0 win maybe.

You attempted to recover your password through secret question, hence the locked account.
~2 days still falls under the reasonable time it takes to get accounts recovered now, some years back I guess you would have needed to wait for a very long time.
Your best bet is to wait for a response to your mail and follow the instructions and maybe bump this thread later if you still don't get a reply, a mod could address your issue then and tell if something is wrong.

a message from someone for the locked account.👇
This was revised in 2018 and account recoveries were sped up; Account recoveries are moving again, not sure how long it takes now but it's much faster.
4298  Economy / Economics / Re: US BTC mining farm buys 17,600 miners on: June 29, 2020, 07:42:27 AM
- Max Keiser believes a global hash war is imminent due to bitcoin's game-theory.
I agree with this, lots competitors are entering the field. Bitcoin hash rate is now very decentralized across the various mining pools and we're likely going to see a shift in that over the next few months as more big players come in.
This is a big bet for core scientific as they are not only purchasing the largest number of miners bought in one go, but they're are also scaling up the amount of power they can utilize.

So; huge investments in;
• equipment
• locations to house them and,
• safe sources of power.
This is a huge bet on Bitcoin in the next months especially as some of their competitors gets cheaper electricity.
4299  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it a problem if the population decreases while monetary inflation remains... on: June 28, 2020, 07:46:23 PM
It has its pros and cons. The population of a nation makes up its work force and are essential in how much it can produce, but I think population density is a more important factor; how large is the population compared to the land area and job availability. A high number of people in a thriving economy would be effective as there are available jobs, while same number in a dwindling one would lead to high number of unemployment.

On the issue of how population and monetary inflation affects an economy, I do not think there is a direct relationship, but it could depend on the subdivision that's being lost, if a nation losses more of their educated population (in various fields) there would be less productivity.

do a government normally incentivise reproduction/immigration if something like this were to happen
Highly unlikely that a nation would encourage an increase in population purely for the numbers, so the former is unlikely. It could however create an attractive environment for those looking to harness their skills (those educated in various fields) inorder to boost their workforce.
P.S; this post would better fit in the Economics board

I'm here to guide noobs in Nigeria on how to buy/sell Bitcoin
...
Nairaland is Africa's biggest online forum
Nairaland is not a dedicated source to buy and sell bitcoins and I would NOT recommend newbies to use it as a means of exchange. It's an online forum which is mainly for discussions on various topics (not manly for cryptocurrencies) and this doesn't make it a ideal recommendation as a means of exchanging cryptocurrencies.
Bitcoin is legal in Nigeria and majority of currency exchanges is accessible within the country
