4281  Economy / Economics / Re: Cashless society on: August 19, 2017, 08:35:23 PM
An ideal cashless society is far from the reality, in India atleast. People have trouble getting good internet connections, many haven't used a computer in their lives too. When I try convincing some people to adopt BTC, they just shrug it off saying its just some HYIP/ponzi scheme. People have started using debit/credit cards/  netbanking to pay for stuff, but ideal cashless society is equipped with cryptocurrency, where the majority of the people of that society adopt cryptocurrencies, and that isn't happening anytime soon in India.

I don't think that those who support cashless society care whether its feasible or efficient. They esteem ideology over human concerns or standard of living.

Even in the united states many homeless or poor might be unable to buy or sell basic necessities like food if they were unable to afford a cell phone equipped with digital transaction/internet.

Many could starve or die if cashless society were adopted.

4282  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lights...Camera...Bitcoin! on: August 19, 2017, 08:22:34 PM
Mike Tyson owned a bitcoin ATM. Floyd Mayweather ran an ad for an ICO. Some UFC fighters asked for bitcoin donations to fund their training camps. Some journalists and political figures have come out publicly in support of bitcoin(some for donations).

I can't remember any actors or actresses being involved with crypto though. I think celebrities are more into getting rid of the money they have by buying silly overpriced items than they are making money.
4283  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who Created Bitcoin ? on: August 19, 2017, 08:19:51 PM
This is an article examining the possibility of Satoshi being a security researcher named David Kleiman who passed away in 2013.

https://seebitcoin.com/2016/05/everything-makes-sense-if-david-kleiman-was-satoshi-nakamoto-heres-why/

Its the best theory I've come across so far as to Satoshi's identity.

4284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you believe the FBI holds the biggest number of bitcoin? on: August 18, 2017, 07:29:01 PM
The FBI(state) could hold a lot of bitcoin seized from Mt. Gox, Silk Road, Alpha Bay, BTC-E and other investigations / seizures / forfeitures.

They could hold a lot of crypto although I can't remember anyone looking up statistics on what their holdings might look like.
4285  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: BCC/BCH on: August 18, 2017, 07:23:20 PM
BCH is looking very similar to ETH.

ETH developers tried to find ways to boost the value of ETH over the short term.

This led to ETH imploding as an overvalued bubble and people losing faith in it.

BCH developers look to be following the same gameplan ETH developers used.
4286  Economy / Economics / Re: BCC more profitable to mine on: August 18, 2017, 07:19:29 PM
Difficulty is going down by another projected 50% to 60% on Sunday.

If the current price of BTC/BCH stays the same as it is right now, BCH will be about 30% more profitable to mine.

Miners want profit. It is an alarming thing to see h appening. It looks like the bitcoin community is going to have to continue arguing their side of which coin is better, the split has still not been healed from what I see and read here.

While it may look good short term. Over the long term it could mean bch price will implode as a bubble the way ethereum did from being artificially overvalued and unsustainable by its transaction volume/intrinsic value and other fundamental metrics.

Also if the mining difficulty arbitrarily changes & developers make up whatever rules they want to, when they want to, that could be viewed as an unreliable and immature way to approach finance, which could cause many investors to lose faith in bch as a whole.
4287  Economy / Economics / Re: Spanish investors create the first Cryptocurrency for the Climate Change action. on: August 18, 2017, 06:57:40 PM
Sounds cool. Would be interested to hear more details on their proposal to use an ICO to address climate change. There are many options for coping with climate change. Emissions are one. Afforestation, seed bombing and mass replanting of trees is another. Better insulation for homes, electric cars rather than internal combustion engines, renewable energy.

There are many options on the table as far as climate change goes. Even more information on global dimming which makes winters colder via air pollution blocking/reflecting light particles, heat energy from the sun, could help.
4288  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will Trump be in office 1-1-2018? Will Trump Jr. go before congress? Betting on: August 18, 2017, 06:48:43 PM
There's a conspiracy theory which says Trump supporters in the government are being fired or forced to resign one by one. Flynn and Bannon are gone. H.R. McMaster is said to be firing other pro Trumpers working for the state. That could be part of a plan to isolate and weaken Trump before removing him from power.

Many in the media and politics are calling for Trump to be impeached.

There is a chance it could happen.
4289  Economy / Economics / Re: Which country would be the first to eliminate fiat and convert to crypto fully? on: August 17, 2017, 07:04:01 PM
You are right in that there are some things fiat is just simply better for.

However, I think you are forgetting about paper wallets which is the exact same thing as fiat.

It depends on whether its possible to print fake paper wallets. Paper fiat is difficult to counterfeit. A paper wallet could be much easier to forge which could complicate things if people ever tried to utilize crypto the same way they do fiat.
4290  Economy / Economics / Re: Btc or Bcc on: August 17, 2017, 07:00:10 PM
Bcc/Bch could provide real world data to help solve the scaling debate and answer once and for all what the effects and implications of larger blocks are. That's probably the best thing about it. The negative thing about bcc/bch is it treats software engineering as if it were the jerry springer show. As if controversial engineering issues with different facets can be fixed by people with zero experience who want to resort to impulsive kneejerk solutions because they're determined not to think about the real issues.
4291  Economy / Economics / Re: Stock market vs. Bitcoin??? on: August 17, 2017, 06:53:00 PM
Economic slowdown is more likely to affect stocks than crypto as stocks have reached a saturation point while crypto still has a lot of room to grow.

If world economies were growing at a good pace, that could create more room for stock growth. But since economic slowdown seems more like the norm than the exception, I would say that crypto is the better option as its far from reaching a point of maximum growth, unlike stocks.
4292  Economy / Economics / Re: No "In God We Trust" to Trust: Cryptocurrency Trend to Grow on: August 17, 2017, 06:46:12 PM
I think that by "financial elite" this guy means all the bankers, because cryptocurrencies will hit the banks and ruin their business. Why depositing money in a bank for 0% interest ,when you can buy bitcoin or some altcoin and get huge profits from price increase.I think that the "financial elite" is divided. One part is making big money with bitcoin and altcoins, the other part(oldschool bankers and brokers) is really in panic mode, because they can`t adapt.

As far as I know, JP Morgan, microsoft and other elite organizations/banks are invested in altcoins, ICO's, ethereum and whatever else. Financial elites could already own a percentage of crypto's infrastructure, development and mining. That could make the "financial elites are afraid of bitcoin" headline sound a bit sensationalist. It sounds like a clickbait headline more than a legitimate one.
4293  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Game of Thrones - Who will rule? Odds and betting discussion on: August 17, 2017, 06:25:17 PM
While it was certainly full of fan service moments and action it was one of the most poorly written and embarrassing of the series in my opinion. The teleportation issues are going full retard, it's getting so ridiculous I'm laughing out loud lately. This one in particular is the worst, similar distances were covered in almost a full season earlier and now they are 12-24 hours away and happen on a single episode lol!

Euron Greyjoy ambushing Asha/Theon Greyjoy's fleet. Sailing to King's Landing to gloat. Then sailing to Casterly Rock to burn all of Grey Worm's ships is another case. I agree with you that the writing and execution of some parts of the accidentally leaked episode could have been better. It feels rushed to a degree, like they had a deadline to meet or were starved for time and had to improvise.
4294  Economy / Economics / Re: Forking Dilemma:The ticking time bomb that will render cryptos untenable... on: August 16, 2017, 10:48:07 PM
Cryptocurrencies should face the same market forces.

There's a question of whether currency can gain value or be devalued through inefficient spending.

Example when new york was bought from native americans for paltry sum. Did the value of real estate diminish while the value of goods traded for new york gain value?

Another example if a government bought 200 toilet seats at a cost of $4 billion dollars, would that devalue US currency?

That could be one area where crypto retains value over other currencies, its buying/selling paradigm is more efficient and more effective than other currencies which negates the effect inflation(inefficient spending) has upon it.
4295  Economy / Economics / Re: No "In God We Trust" to Trust: Cryptocurrency Trend to Grow on: August 16, 2017, 10:42:21 PM
The financial elite are in panic mode over the rise of Bitcoin and the other Crypto currencies that surround it.

I've seen Alex Jones & many others use a similar "financial elite are in panic" headline as clickbait.

Almost as if Craig Wright had not received $200 million in "investment capital" and ethereum had not been involved with JP Morgan.

Almost as if the financial elite were not already involved with crypto in some fashion.
4296  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Cryptocurrencies Will Never Be Safe Havens on: August 16, 2017, 10:28:54 PM
Many banks only insure up to 100k. A million deposited would only give 10% back in an emergency.

This is a case for banks not being safe havens.

If banks may not be safe havens, what chance is there for anything else being safe?

In the news there are many stories about people hiding large sums of money in their mattresses only to have their cash be eaten by termites or thrown away accidentally, never to be recovered.

The concept of a financial safe haven may be a myth at best.
4297  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 🔥 BITCOlN CASH JUST MINED FIRST EVER 8MB BLOCK!!!! 🔥 on: August 16, 2017, 10:24:23 PM
https://blockchair.com/bitcoin-cash/block/479469
Number of transactions of this block: 37,814

Need to list how long the block took to mine to give a better metric of transactions per second.

It is possible that describing crypto transaction speeds as a "scaling issue" is an incorrect way to define the problem.

Encrypted WIFI modems/routers aren't the ideal choice for gaming. That may be no more a "scaling issue" than crypto's transaction limits.

It might be more fair to say its merely a case of default overhead and processing requirements that comes with crypto functions being built into things like WIFI/bitcoin.
4298  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Game of Thrones - Who will rule? Odds and betting discussion on: August 16, 2017, 07:58:24 PM
Was it my imagination or did Cersei imply she was pregnant?   Huh

Was there a prophecy in a previous episode where Cersei was a little girl where a witch or fortune teller told Cersei she would only have 3 children?

Nice spoilers. Of course it has to be Viserion who is killed and becomes an ice dragon because Viserys character hasn't been pooped on enough already.
4299  Economy / Economics / Re: Which country would be the first to eliminate fiat and convert to crypto fully? on: August 15, 2017, 11:51:37 PM
Fiat is better than crypto for some things.

Say someone wants to sell their car. How do they structure transactions to avoid fraud? Loans can be difficult with crypto. There are areas where crypto is not well suited.

The time it takes transactions to confirm can complicate buying/selling. Crypto also requires access to electronics and the internet. Fiat has the advantage of not needing anything more than a piece of paper which gives it an advantage over crypto in some areas.
4300  Economy / Economics / Re: The future of the paper money on: August 15, 2017, 11:36:39 PM
I think we tend to underestimate the contributions paper money makes to society in the form of convenient, fast and reliable transactions.

Paper currency allows fast and easy buying & selling of used goods, garage sales, farmers markets and other transactions which can occur without a merchant gateway of point of sale device which can read credit cards, etc.

Crypto currencies and paper currencies don't necessarily need to compete.
