4641  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bitcoin A Bubble? Why many people are looking at this through the wrong lens on: June 05, 2017, 07:00:59 PM
This is the real bubble.

This currency is issued by a government that is $20 trillion in debt.

Its value has not corrected for the amount of debt and danger present.

If "experts", "analysts", "journalists" weren't paid shills & charlatans they would be discussing this right now.

The euro/EU is also a bubble. The pound may also be one.

Russia, china, australia and other nations are getting rid of the US dollar(and adopting bitcoin) knowing USD is a bubble.
4642  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What your favorite altcoin on: June 05, 2017, 06:52:49 PM
I like doge. Fast transactions. Low transfer fees. Easy to acquire and hold thousands of coins. Value is extremely low with plenty of potential for growth.

Dogecoin also has by far the best spinoff games:

https://dogeminer.se/

Maybe not the best choice for a serious investment. But for lowly lolinvestments one of the best options on the table.
4643  Economy / Economics / Re: Making a Decentralized Global Workforce a Reality on: June 05, 2017, 06:45:04 PM
Decentralized energy and food production could be goals worth pursuing.

People putting solar panels on their house to generate their own electricity & growing organic crops in their backyard to feed their family decentralize food/energy sectors.

That decentralization could lead to better competition in energy and food markets, leading to lower prices, greater advancement and all around benefits to everyone.

It could also lead to lower reliance on jobs/corporate sector & greater independence.

In regard to US(?) real estate.

People love to talk about bubbles.   Cool

Tell me if this resembles a bubble to anyone?

In the united states rents have been increasing substantially over the past years & may not be sustainable.

Especially when compared to dwindling wages for the poor to middle class which are often incrementing at a slower rate than inflation growth.
4645  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 212: Aldo vs Holloway Info and Prediction Thread on: June 04, 2017, 07:15:59 PM
I was wrong on Karolina winning.

But right on Aldo's cardio being bad:

I'm leaning towards Max Holloway winning since Aldo's cardio looked very bad when he fought Frankie Edgar the last time.

I like Aldo but his fighting career could be over. He'll be one of those fighters who needs to win his fights early or he could be finished when he slows down and his cardio fails him.   Undecided
4646  Economy / Economics / Re: Is the SEC retarding innovation and progress in the USA by opposing the BTC ETF on: June 04, 2017, 07:04:45 PM
https://www.sec.gov/Article/whatwedo.html

The mission of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation.

The SEC's primary objective is to protect investors. I think that is the reason why market commentators seemed to be confident that the Bitcoin ETF would be rejected. Innovation? Not their job!

The SEC didn't protect american taxpayers from the subprime mortgage crisis.

They didn't protect american taxpayers from the economic meltdown of 2008 which was caused by bank derivative credible bubbles popping.

They didn't protect american taxpayers from the repeal of glass steagall which was designed to separate investment banking from commercial banking.

There are other crisis bordering on the horizon such as student loans and car loans. The SEC does nothing to protect people from that.

Can anyone give me an example of the SEC doing something to protect people from bad investments?

It seems to me the SEC does the complete opposite of what they claim to do.
4647  Economy / Economics / Re: How bitcoin can be useful in developing nations like the African continent. on: June 04, 2017, 07:00:40 PM
The most obvious answer is african countries being prone towards economic instability. Zimbabwe and its currency hyperinflation of a few decades past gives bitcoin and crypto a window to offer people a reliable method of storing their wealth in the event of poor economic policies leading to currency devluation.
4648  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoins and Video games on: June 04, 2017, 06:58:50 PM
There are many games which offer rewards or game benefits in crypto.

Most of them offer decent rewards when they first release their game to the public. After that they become like a faucet where you have to be very active in game to receive a very small amount of crypto. Except they pay less than faucets do.

4649  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 212: Aldo vs Holloway Info and Prediction Thread on: June 03, 2017, 07:40:58 PM
I really think that Jose Aldo will approach this fight like he faced Frankie Edgar where he will pick his shots and since Max Holloway is not a great wrestler expect some vicious leg kicks and Aldo has one of the nasty leg kicks in MMA history and it all depends upon his game plan,i wish i could see the old WEC Aldo where he was finishing people and yes i am wagging with bitcoin.

Aldo has savage leg kicks. That can be a disadvantage at times when Aldo fights southpaws since its easier for his kicks to accidentally impact their knee/shin similar to how Anderson Silva broke his leg kicking Chris Weidman. When Jose Aldo fought Korean Zombie he broke his foot leg kicking into Korean Zombie's knee/shin.

If Max Holloway fights southpaw with his right left forward that could go a long way towards nullifying Jose Aldo's leg kicks similar to what happened when Aldo fought southpaw Conor McGregor.

I'm leaning towards Max Holloway winning since Aldo's cardio looked very bad when he fought Frankie Edgar the last time.

Yeah, I bet via BTC.   Cheesy  I lost 0.14 btc betting last week. Hopefully I will win this week.
4650  Economy / Economics / Re: Feeling the burn on: June 03, 2017, 07:26:15 PM
There are always opportunities everywhere. It burns to know of one opportunity missed while being unaware of the hundreds or thousands of opportunities also missed that were just as good.
4651  Economy / Economics / Is the SEC retarding innovation and progress in the USA by opposing the BTC ETF on: June 03, 2017, 07:19:35 PM
America's glory years are marked by it being an early adopter of new technologies. Henry Ford invented the first assembly line. Edison and Tesla invented many new things which put america on the cutting edge of new technologies.

Now that bitcoin and crypto are emerging with great potential to advance and innovate money exchange. Many nations are rushing to embrace this new technology. Russia, japan, australia and many others are legalizing it recognizing its advantages and the opportunity present.

The SEC in the USA however is choosing to perhaps restrict innovation and progress by denying proposals for a bitcoin ETF.

This is not a new trend nor an isolated incident. Over the last 50 years or so we've seen america fall behind and squander any advantages it had from a global perspective in many tech based engineering sectors.

Is it ironic that a country once known for innovation and developing cutting edge technology is now choosing instead to repress innovation, invention and the type of cutting edge technology it was once known for?

 Huh
4652  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bitcoin A Bubble? Why many people are looking at this through the wrong lens on: June 03, 2017, 07:08:53 PM
Equity value is tied to a balance sheet of ______.

Currency value is tied to the balance sheet of a nation.

The USA being $20 trillion in debt can be a case for the US dollar being a bubble.

The european union being $12 trillion in debt can be a case for the euro being a bubble.

Currency bubbles do exist similar to equity bubbles.

That said he made a very good point about the unlikelihood of sellers outnumbering buyers due to many btc users being long term buy & hold.
4653  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Russia Reveals Plans To Make Its Own National Cryptocurrency on: June 03, 2017, 02:51:03 AM
Quote
Russia is making its own blockchain currency. According to the Russian News Agency, the chairwoman of the Russian Central Bank announced regulators now agree national cryptocurrencies are the future.  “After our pilot projects we will understand what system we could use in our case for our national currency," chairwoman Olga Skorobogatova told the crowd at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. However, it’s still unclear how Russian cryptocurrency would live alongside global blockchain tokens like bitcoin and ether.

Over the past few months, Russia has moved to legalize and regulate cryptocurrency trading. Skorobogatova previously said an outright ban on bitcoin and currencies of its ilk would be infeasible. Unconfirmed reports from Russian news aggregators claimed on Friday that Herman Gref, the CEO of Russia’s Sberbank, will help develop a “Russian Bitcoin,” to serve as “the only cryptocurrency freely available [cryptocurrency] for sale and purchase.”

Earlier this year, Gref said at a conference Russia could have industrial-scale blockchain deployment by 2019. But according to Reuters, Russian authorities have historically been skeptical about bitcoin, associating it with money laundering and terrorism. Treating bitcoin as parallel currency is currently illegal in Russia. Only time will tell how regulators will treat competing cryptocurrencies as the new policies take shape.

Elvira Nabiullina, governor of the Russian Central Bank, said the Kremlin does not plan to make bitcoin itself a legal tender. "We don't consider that bitcoin can be considered as a virtual currency. It's more digital assets with the regulation of assets," she told CNBC.

Despite the uncertainties, many Russian bitcoin traders are celebrating. “Thousands of people are taking part of this [blockchain] movement, you see a conference in Moscow almost every week. You see Russian blockchain media with big traffic,” said Alexey Antonov from Moscow, a financial advisor at the Russian Supercomputer Organized by Network Mining. SONM plans to launch their initial coin offering in June and make blockchain technology without hash-based traditional cryptocurrency mining.

Antonov said he is excited for Russia to make a sort of crypto-ruble. “I’m glad the Central Bank of Russia established some regulation and their own cryptocurrency,” Antonov told International Business Times. “We think that in Russia there will be some official currency, it will be better for all of us, because we’ll have a method to transfer money from our blockchain companies. It’s better than nothing.”

In the near future, Antonov said blockchain could help regular Russian citizens and businesses, not just the tech-savvy startup community, by simplifying small business loans. “Obviously, it will be very regulated,” he said. “Maybe we can store our money and pay our taxes legally, it would be great. Right now you can’t spend bitcoin or exchange it for ruble.”

Russia isn’t the only one making a national cryptocurrency. Both China and the Palestinian Monetary Authority recently announced they too plan to make national cryptocurrencies. Meanwhile, Reuters reported Japan and South Korea are working on ways to recognize cryptocurrencies like bitcoin, integrating decentralized blockchain tender into their national monetary systems. It looks like Russia will be the next government to usher its blockchain community out of the shadows into a cryptographic economy.

Antonov said he thinks Russian government officials are tuned in to the broader blockchain landscape. “They are really good at understanding what’s going on in our crypto-world,” he said.

If I remember right, iceland tried to create its own national crypto currency years ago: aurora coin.

As an american it pains me to see every country in the world be more progressive and innovative than we are.

I constantly feel like america is run by the least intelligent people in the world.

Fools who could never see an advantage or benefit in using crypto the way that russia can.

USA is falling behind other nations in every way as a result of our poor leadership and the extremely narrow minded and closed minded views of those who hold positions of power. The SEC which hinders innovation and progress by refusing a bitcoin ETF is a prime example of it.

4654  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: RANSOMWARE impact on: June 02, 2017, 11:12:37 PM
The media exaggerates whatever impact crypto ransomware has on circumstances.

Its long been known that 80% or more of retailers on the internet are compromised or h4xed in some manner.

Whether businesses with an internet presence are damaged in fiat or crypto isn't the most relevent topic at this point in time.
4655  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mining pools shut down in China with no clear reasons on: June 02, 2017, 11:10:44 PM
The segwit 2MB scaling agreement could have something to do with this.

It is possible miners based out of china were funded by central banks & their only motivation was to support bitcoin unlimited in an attempt to centralized bitcoin.

Once the segwit agreement was reached, there was no longer a reason for them to mine as their window and opportunity to centralize bitcoin and fork ended.

Of course this is all vaporware conspiracy theories. Still, its not easy to explain how miners in china shutdown for no reason.
4656  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 212: Aldo vs Holloway Info and Prediction Thread on: June 02, 2017, 10:45:35 PM
I think Karolina will defeat Claudia.

That's my prediction.   Cheesy

It may not be a good prediction.

That's the impression I get from watching the open workouts & listening to some of the things they're saying.

Of course open workouts aren't reliable as some fighters like Max Holloway throw their punches and kicks at 10% during open workouts while fighters like Jose Aldo throw their punches and kicks closer to 60%. It can be hard to gauge how good or powerful someone's technique is.
4657  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2016/17 NBA Season on: June 02, 2017, 10:41:57 PM
I'm laughing about how right everyone here was about Durant playing a key role this year in the championship series.

Cavaliers were down 0-3 last year before they came back to win.

I'm thinking they may be down 0-2 or 0-3 before they start to comeback.
4658  Economy / Economics / Re: What don't you like about Banks and Banks controlling your money on: June 02, 2017, 10:14:22 PM
Monopolies prevent innovation, progress and growth of civilization & society.

In countries like venezuela where the state has a monopoly & control over everything we can see how monopolism has a destructive effect on happiness, life and standard of living.

Banks having a monopoly over the exchange of currency is a bad idea for the same reasons governments monopolizing power and influence within a centralized format has typically been a bad precedent for civilization & society as a whole.

Decentralizing banks and allowing competition & free markets to improve services and currency exchange in ways that benefit everyone is a better alternative to banks monopolizing power in that industry.
4659  Economy / Economics / Re: Why are Venezuelan not switching to Bitcoin? on: June 01, 2017, 11:33:33 PM
Venezuelan authorities are cracking down on Bitcoin mining facilities and are focused on “weakening” these mining operations within the region. According to reports on January 27, the Organized Crime Bureau of the Bolivarian National Police (BNP) shut down an 11,000 unit Bitcoin mining undertaking.

Of course the UK/EU is likely cracking down on bitcoin in similar ways. They're only being more discreet and sneaky about it. Using the media to attack bitcoin's reputation rather than opting for the heavy handed totalitarian approach.

If the euro/pound start to devalue and people turn to crypto as a means of avoiding hyperinflation, they could resort to more drastic measures.
4660  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is still delusional enough to think miners want to scale? on: June 01, 2017, 11:25:57 PM
Those wanting to scale crypto remind me of people who expect to have great internet multiplayer gaming using a WIFI router.

Encryption & cryptographic functions always slow things down.

Whether its a WIFI router or bitcoin, it could be guaranteed that it will always be somewhat slow.
