The cause of the problem in point 1. has not been named exactly.
What was pointed out as a cause did not match the results we saw, so that could not have been the cause. Reference to the POST document only raised more questions, I will now put them in one place and re-post. By expecting the answers first I don't think we are halting things. We are halting the rush to do 2, 3, 4 without having done 1.

I thought it was addressed. Post was working as intended, but the algo didn't fit well with Solarcoin, so it was modified with a hard cap. Anymore technical than that and my eyes will begin to cross.

I again restate things are being carefully watched and triple checking the logic now is a good idea.

Hello SolarCoin Community,

As you may have noticed, the fork occurred at 835000, a slight oversight on my part before leaving for a needed sanity button reset.

Here's what I need everyone to do.  Check your block height by hovering your mouse over the Sync/Staking icon.  At the time of this writing, you should be at height 835224.  If you are at a larger or lesser height, please go to File->Reload Blockchain, download the bootstrap and restart to get on the main chain.

If you have trouble getting the Download to work in the wallet, you can get it here: http://solarcoin.org/downloads/bootstrap.zip

To manually install the bootstrap, shut down the wallet, remove blk0001.dat and txleveldb in your data directory, extract the contents of bootstrap.zip, and move the contents to your data directory.

It looks like the 10% cap is working.  If you would like to share the results of your staking, please post them here.

-Steve

EDIT: We need as many wallets staking as possible to get the blockchain moving along a 1 bpm.

EDIT: If you are mining on 1.5, please turn off your miners as you will be wasting electricity on anything past 835000.

I am not doing that until all questions have been answered instead of ignored. Shall I repeat them all? Yes I will.
For now, I will stick to 1.5 and mining, current block is 835469, anything else is just a joke, and it was not all of us working hard and being worried here that did it look like a joke.

The current 1.5 node list to use in a SolarCoin.conf file along your wallet.dat for everyone who wants POST done and tested professionally before being implemented can be found here:
https://chainz.cryptoid.info/slr/#!network

Thanks!

Hi y_virtual,

I have not been able to read all of the posts from the past few days.  If you have any unanswered questions, please post them here.  I will be monitoring the thread the rest of the day.

Current block height is 835225.  I know about the web server issues with reloading the block chain.  We will be moving the bootstrap to a more reliable server in the next release.  In the mean time, the manual bootstrap procedure above is the fastest solution.

More 2.0.3. nodes are starting to come online.  We need everyone on 1.5 to upgrade to 2.0.3 asap.

Note: Everything appears to be working with the interest rate cap.  This solution, I think, is going to work best for SolarCoin.  We may need to tweak it as the network matures in the next few days/weeks.  (PoST will run more smoothly as it matures.)  To alleviate any concerns, the first attempt at PoW to PoST was working as designed in the PoST protocol.  Its inflation model was not necessarily a good fit for SolarCoin, so caps had to put in place.

Thanks everyone,
Steve

Steve, you can't persuade anyone 2.0.3 is working properly, if you haven't read the questions and answer them. So as a starter, please take the time to go through the posts, prepare with the answers, and I will also take the time to go through the posts again and repeat the questions, then will expect your answers.
Thanks!

just a note: we are currently at block 835662

Or you can just repeat the questions. It's much easier to have them in one place rather than to waste time having to parse every post from then till now. If you can't remember what they were, then you are in question.

Of course I said I will repeat the questions.
I put a lot of effort trying to figure out what the issue may have been, and this is how testing is done, regardless of anyone's (including mine) opinion.
Since it is really important to come up with a working POST release, I can't even think of NOT putting as much more effort as needed to eventually have all questions answered and only then proceed with the implementation.

I agree to a point. Things are being very carefully watched right now. I don't see anything wrong with triple checking the logic, but I also don't see why things need to be halted right now. It appears to be functioning properly.

Should be on block 835230. That's the correct POST block.

Do I need to re-load the blockchain if I'm below Block 835,000?

EDIT: Or can I just let it catch up?

I think you can let it catch up.

*edit Though I did redownload the application and have the app download the new bootstrap. Much faster.

And I got .255 of a solarcoin from my main wallet. Maybe working a bit too well!

Actually that's working perfectly. It fits with the inflation model of solar claims.

Solarcoin just got harder to farm and that's exactly the right direction, it'll give an even greater incentive to claim Solarcoin, since it can no longer be farmed with ease. The original plan was to mine 100 million coins in the PoW phase, but that seemed impractical due to the increasing popularity of solar claims.

I have a positive vibe about this.

Yay, just received an interest payment of 13.68 SLR! Outstanding! Smiley

There was no interest rate cap in v2.0.1
See page 11 and 13 of link:

http://www.vericoin.info/downloads/VeriCoinPoSTWhitePaper10May2015.pdf

"There was no interest rate cap in v2.0.1"

There we go. So there WAS NO interest cap?!? The chart on page 11 (as well as common sense) goes up to 100%, the Interest numbers by the Staking circle went up to 99%.
BUT
"there was no interest rate cap" in the code means - what? No upper limit? A random number maxed at the specs of the variable integer used in the code?
It is important for someone to confirm this was the issue, so then we know any solution involving capping the interest rate at 10%, or even 100%, will really solve the problem for sure.

Post was based on assumptions that a majority of holders would stake at any given time. If you do the math it actually makes sense. I got the maximum stake reward of 7.5 million SLR. Obviously the chain was rolled back and those coins are not going to be confirmed, merely generated as orphans. If you divide 34 million by 7.5 million you get a lofty 4.53 SLR which would make sense if every one of those 34 million coins were staking at any given time. Placing a cap on this would more or less fix this issue.

Hey I'm a little bit late to all of this. I've noticed there is a new wallet now, I haven't updated mine for a while. I still have an old wallet on my system, do I need to completely remove it before installing the new one? I've backed up my wallet.dat file, would it just be a case of transferring this over when the new wallet is installed? Cheers

Make several backups of your wallet.dat!

You can install this one over the previous install. The installer will automatically detect the old install and delete it, but leave your wallet.dat intact.

Concerning ending PoW at 840000.  If we leave it at 840000, this gives me time to debug the CryptoID issue, and it gives me time to setup another testnet to verify the changes.

On a personal note, I was supposed to leave on a two day rock climbing trip today. I've postponed it to tomorrow, so that gives me time for a much needed break, and all of the above. Wink

I'm ok with whatever the consensus is, though.

I like Terciops suggestion, if you can get an update before 830,510.

But I'm fine with letting it fly too. I couldn't afford to buy many since the beginning and watched the miners suck the value dry but I put a lot into this coin in other ways for the first year. Perhaps I like the bump because it does feel like I've earned it. In that respect, I'm with Corather, let it ride! Cheesy

I also have no problem sending some of these earnings back to the generator pool. I was the first to have done that, so it wouldn't be a novel idea for me.

Whatever happens though, I'll follow along. Smiley

Wasn't me, I would like to see a resolution. My suggestion was to wait for Nick's decision. I also like the idea of rolling back to 830k and repairing the math. I was one of the "lucky" ones that received a 7.5 million slr "interest" payment. I do not want those coins, it'll devalue the currency.

The problem is this is how PoST is. We need more people to run there wallets and stake.

Maybe everyone that got large amounts of solarcoins could send them back to the generator pool.

If the problem doesn't persist this could work, but there are many unknowns. I'm not panicking though. Like all new technology there will be growing pains. The worst didn't happen, a crippling fork for example. Whatever is decided will be right for the coin in the long run. Short term problems are already being worked on.

I'd like to propose a solution and get some feed back.  What if we all got back on the 1.5 blockchain (and resumed mining) then put an interest rate cap of 10% in a new 2.0.2 release set to fork at height 840000?

-Steve

"Let's work the problem people. Let's not make things worse by guessing." Apollo 13 Film, Gene Kranz.

I think it's best to wait for Mr. Gogerty's decision on this.

I'm unable to import the private key from paper wallets that I did up last year.

I went into the console and used the function importprivkey followed by the private key and got an error saying:

Wallet is unlocked for staking only (code -13)

Any help would be appreciated! Smiley

Try Settings -> Disable Staking. Then go to Help -> Console and enter "walletpassphrase {your passphrase} 9999999 true"

Then try importing.

-Steve

When I do that command, as you indicated, it says: Error: Error parsing JSON table

The command has to look exactly like this for windows wallets:

walletpassphrase 'your passphrase' 9999999 true

We are currently at block height 830064.  If you notice any conflicted interest payments, that's normal.  (I have two conflicted.)  You will get caught up, but maybe at a lower interest rate.

-Steve

I've had 4 stale blocks found so far, though everything seems to be working well. It's staying in synch perfectly, and this is running on a slow netbook. Runs a little clunky but it gets the job done.

Thanks, corather, this is being worked on.  It's heavily hacked Abe code and is getting stretched to it's limit trying to re-index 820k+ blocks.  I would prefer to see the CryptoID explorer there, as it has many more features and is supported.  Thoughts?

-Steve

I do very much prefer the cryptoID explorer. In my opinion as far as programming is concerned, I usually take the path of least resistance so if it's easier one method over another. It's not more noble to stick to one product over another especially if one is causing headaches and the other options just simply work.

Found a python error in the 32 bit version in the blockchain explorer. Don't know if it's been reported.

Code:
A problem occurred in a Python script. Here is the sequence of function calls leading up to the error, in the order they occurred.

Official update for POST SolarCoin v 2.00 http://solarcoin.org/en/urgent-solarcoin-update-required-hard-fork-on-sept-21/

please share information with friends mining pools and exchanges.

Can anyone confirm that https://solarcoin.miningpoolhub.com/ has converted?

Nick

I'm mining there now with all I have left, one tiny GAW Fury. I've gone through 3 power supplies. Sad

They do have a notice there about POST so I think everything is moving along. I have not tried the new wallet yet however.

Couldn't find the note, where is it?
Just in case, re-posted Nick's announcement on their forum:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=472510.msg12424536#msg12424536

Those power supplies are really weak, made me switch to a PC power supply, all miners work great now.

I may do that in the future. I have a PSU, just need to buy a new dummy switch and get those barrel connectors.

we are near PosT and someone decides to crash the price. hmmmmm

Maybe its big oil lol  Wink

I'll be buying some soon. It's a steal at these prices really. I think cryptonick has a point as least concerning utility at the moment. Thing is this is the kind of currency people will get behind. There will always be a supply and it's not arbitrary. There is real hardware backing this investment so supply will never run out. I accept it myself as payment for computer services. Though since I'm local there isn't a demand yet, but time and claims will fix this. My chamber of commerce has solar panels on their building. I really should get in touch with them, or at least supply the address here.
