Is it just me, or is downloading the blockchain significantly faster?

Sounds like an interesting experiment. I'll be watching this thread.

That read only access is great. Ryland, can you add some notice on homepage as howto for people who want write access to forum?
I'll let paraipan figure out the best place to put that. I may have started the forum, but all I really did was copy the sections from this forum. paraipan is responsible for the beautiful homepage we now have, so I'll let him figure out an optimal way to include that. Smiley
444  Other / Off-topic / What other p2p software do you use? on: November 20, 2011, 04:08:23 AM
Every time I find some new p2p software (my latest discovery being osiris,) I'm amazed at the capabilities of p2p technology! Bitcoin is one of my favorite finds, of course. I want to know what other p2p software you guys use, aside from the common things like bittorrent. Anything interesting I don't know about?

If I may make a suggestion, consider ditching the monarchy forum and just try to get most people posting in Anarchy. The prudes can find their own way.
I think the anarchy one will be really nice, and I'd like to just delete the monarchy one, but it's not entirely my decision. paraipan, slush, and I built these forums together, so I don't feel I have the right to make that decision.

Where is the source?

Theymos, I haven't been around. Is this legit?
It's legit. More info is at http://osiris-sps.org/introduction and the thread that spawned the Bitcoin P2P forum is here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=46206.0

Also, in the next release (1.0), osiris will be completely open source! Yay!

The one you most likely joined is an osiris monarchy forum. This means that there are admins and mods to keep the forum in check. The other option when creating an osiris forum is an anarchy. This means that everyone is equal, and that the forum will be self-moderated through a reputation system. I would like to see how the osiris anarchy forum works out, so I would encourage you to join and post in the anarchy forum. The link is in my signature. I'll be waiting there!

Want to join a p2p Bitcoin Forum? First, download the p2p portal software, osiris. Then, once you have it running fine, click one of the links in my signature to join either the anarchy forum, or the monarchy forum. The anarchy forum has no admins or mods. It's self moderated through a reputation system. The monarchy forum has admins and mods. Have fun!

Also: No newbie restrictions!

Anyone think we should use an anarchic forum instead of a monarchic one? Here's the invite link to the anarchic one, if so: here

I'm in! But still don't see any discussion thread or even different users in BOP.
I saw your thread, and replied to it. Smiley

If you like pixel art, the user Mushroomized is a good artist and is on this forum.

Bitcoin Osiris Portal is up! If you have osiris installed, go here and click the link that says "Bitcoin" to join the portal!

EDIT: Edited link to point to the new forum.

Hi Ryland,

A few questions about your unconfirmed transaction:
1) Did it send ok ? (Did you get a 'Bitcoin sent ok' on your send confirm screen after you sent it?).
2) Has the recipient received it ok?
3) Is your payment on the blockchain ?   (You can look at blockexplorer.com and search for the receive address)
4) Is it still waiting to be incorporated into a block (unlikely after 24 hours but possible).   Have a look at :
http://bitcoincharts.com/bitcoin/ and search for the receive address.

Let me know.   If it is still waiting to be put in a block then that would be normal.   If not then please PM the two logs you have in your <installation directory>/log and I will have a look.
(The log files don't have your private keys in them)

1) Yeah
2) Yup: http://blockexplorer.com/address/1NqkEcycGaK1VVx85D2zm7YGYtYtya5DPw
3) See #2
4) Nope
Also, I have .2487 BTC, but Available to Spend says 0, and I don't know why. I'll pm you the logs in a moment. Thanks.

EDIT: There's no log folder in the installation directory.
