4481  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How can I extract cash from exchanges without going through a bank? on: May 21, 2019, 03:13:12 PM
Erm, if you're signed up to the big exchanges then your details will be there for the tax man to tap in future if they decide to look a little closer. You may get away with it. You may not. Either way you've already marked yourself and it's not as if they're going to get more relaxed as the years go on.

Pay the tax and save yourself ball ache and risk.

If you're determined then the only real way is a cash in hand trade in person. I can't see many posting cash in the mail.

4482  Economy / Collectibles / Re: My loaded 100 BTC Casascius Bearer Bar on: May 21, 2019, 02:31:54 PM
It's already been proven you can take the hologram off of a casaius coin and reattach it with only a pin prick on it being able to tell.

What would be the deal with provenance and liability? I presume that would be their number one reason for turning something like this down. It's not as if they'll have a Casascius desk. The entire valuation hinges on what's behind the sticker so it looks a little too hot to handle for them.
4483  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: May 21, 2019, 02:11:38 PM
Hello i have funds in Mycelium bitcoin wallet . but where ever i scan QR code of bitcoin address its says not recognized address . how can i transfer funds from Mycelium bitcoin wallet to Blockchain.com or BitcoinQT

All QR codes? How long has it been doing that?

I've never experienced that.

Mycelium has a clipboard feature on the sending page so you could copy and paste the address using that. Obviously double check it's the right address.
4484  Economy / Collectibles / Re: My loaded 100 BTC Casascius Bearer Bar on: May 21, 2019, 01:53:59 PM
Do you know this for sure? I'm not so certain EVERY auction house wouldn't touch it. This is what those businesses do, sell rare and unique items. They take a % cut, so if the value of the bar dropped, either way they're getting their cut. I'm not so sure they can be written off so easily.

I've never seen anything like this for sale in such places. I would've thought something would've popped up somewhere by now. Perhaps it doesn't occur to owners.

Fees could turn out to be a beast too.
4485  Economy / Collectibles / Re: My loaded 100 BTC Casascius Bearer Bar on: May 21, 2019, 01:44:01 PM
Chrysties may be a good starting place to reach out to...

It's going to be a long time before established auction houses want to touch stuff like this. If you turned up with one now they'd pat you on the head and tell you to leave. Too many unknowns for them and they wouldn't know how to market it either.

If I owned something like this I'd be pretty stumped. I'd probably only sell in person to someone VERY established on here and even then peeling would look like a lot less trouble. I'm more interested in my own well being than preserving Casascius heritage.
4486  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Wirex- Bitcoin Debit Card | Buy Bitcoin | Mobile Banking | Send Money on: May 21, 2019, 12:26:13 PM
I'm surprised somebody is using wirex for doing withdrawals to a normal bank account, nope it's not a big sum
I've drawn a virtual limit of 150 euros and I don't plan on having more than that even on it except something very unusual and unexpected happens.

I would not use Wirex for any type of bank transfer ever.

Every single complaint I've read about them regards moving fiat in and out and nothing else. Their banking is clearly of a lower tier.
4487  Economy / Speculation / Re: Another Bitter Critic: "Bitcoin Will be Zero" on: May 21, 2019, 10:39:27 AM
https://cointelegraph.com/news/us-rep-sherman-calls-for-crypto-ban-says-it-threatens-to-diminish-american-power

This bitter Critic will never cease.  Haters gonna hate and Bitcoin have too many of that.

The difference between that guy and the one above is that he's one of the first to correctly call out why The Man should be getting hot and bothered by this.

As for the other one, surely 'it will go to zero... and CRIMINALS' is so quaintly retro I can't believe the publisher bothered to entertain it. Do people actually get paid for that level of content?
4488  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-05-21] You may need to provide a blood sample to withdraw btc from HitBTC on: May 21, 2019, 10:24:16 AM
They were recently asking for the passport number of the person one of their customers bought their BTC from several years ago, and it was an ATM. That pretty much says it all. I have zero idea why anyone would touch them with someone else's barge pole.
4489  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Exchanges that let you withdraw FIAT to your credit card on: May 20, 2019, 06:22:37 PM
If I remember rightly BTC-e used to do this. Obviously they're quite hard to recommend these days. Other than that I've never heard of an exchange that did this. Your credit or debit card has no balance to send to. A debit card needs a bank account. A credit card bills you.

If you don't want to use Wirex then wait for a Coinbase debit card unless you're in the UK where they're available now.

Another possibility is a Paypal debit card. It allows you to spend your Paypal balance and you can withdraw to that through Coinbase. I don't know if Paypal still do them but I had one for a little while.

4490  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-05-18]eBay Refutes Rumors of Supporting Bitcoin Payments on: May 20, 2019, 05:47:21 PM
I have no idea why Ebay spent money on those banners. What an utter waste of time and expenditure.

At heart Ebay is an escrow service. There's no way crypto can fit comfortably into that without some very weird compromises. I don't think it's ever going to be possible for it to be a thing.
4491  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-05-20] Poloniex delists 9 cryptos for U.S. traders, they may be securities on: May 20, 2019, 05:03:59 PM
Oh I dunno. Seeing as the owners are a bunch of corrupt, power crazy, greedy, money grabbing banksters I think it reflects perfectly....lol

That's as maybe, but Circle.com was a superb service and support was near instant the couple of times I had a problem. It looks like they're leaving Poloniex to rot. I presume they have a grand plan that they're not rolling out until far in the future and it's effectively placeholding for now.
4492  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: I wonder if this is the reasonable motive why Cryptopia goes bankcrupt on: May 20, 2019, 04:26:10 PM
It looks like withdrawals were not possible yet they reopened deposits with new addresses a short time before they shut down properly. That's either incompetence or deception. Either way they've moved from innocent victim on the surface to being anuses and I hope they get nailed for it.
4493  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-05-20] Poloniex delists 9 cryptos for U.S. traders, they may be securities on: May 20, 2019, 03:58:40 PM
I'm not familiar with most of those coins, but NXT's sole purpose for the past few years seems to have been to distribute other coins and have an empty pump while they're at it. That sounds rather security-esque to me.

Am pretty amazed Poloniex is still so shit and appears to be largely unchanged since its acquisition. It doesn't reflect well on its new owners.
4494  Economy / Speculation / Re: Calling top at $16500 (Even Newer!: $2483 bottom 19 Feb 2021 MtGox said so!) on: May 20, 2019, 03:30:27 PM
I'm loathe to believe that this cycle ended so soon without even really making me that worried.

Was this your first complete cycle?

My second and though it's been boring there was nothing remotely worrying to me. If I had been ludicrous enough to arrive and buy $3 XRP then I'd feel very differently and I'm sure many people do. If you've seen it once the second time around seems more obvious and less alarming.

It would take sub $500 BTC to really get me hot under the collar. A monster poo is possible but the inability to believe it won't happen is also a thing.

Fact of the matter is that no matter what, this time around many, many, many more people will be watching closely for signs of life. In 2015 most had buggered off and moved on. Not so this time.
4495  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase could buy Xapo on: May 20, 2019, 01:42:35 PM
This once again shows that people have lost their mind. For once you are able to actually own the asset and people are still like passing it off to a bank like entity to take care of it. It's so silly that you have to ask them if it's possible to withdraw your funds. Wait for the moment they tell you that you can only withdraw like 1-5% of your stack a day, that's when you'll regret having used them.

There's the non entities who signed up for Xapo because they paid the fees once upon a time, and there are Wences's mates who parked their money in his magic laptop that lives in a Swiss mountain. That's who Fidelity and Coinbase are after.

If Coinbase buy them I guess the non entities will carry on as before and be absorbed. If Fidelity buy them I presume the nobodies will be told to withdraw and not come back.

https://twitter.com/jchervinsky/status/1130209159503319040

There's no real hopium for ETF, SEC approval are just for moonboys and when they does I guess the capitulation already started. What you think about it?

No one gives a shit about ETFs at present and no one's hanging on any decision. None of this price action has anything to do with that. At this point denials are inevitable. They'll come and go with barely a squeak. That's old hat.

An approval will be many years away, if ever.
4497  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Transaction fee has gone up by 10x during the last two weeks on: May 20, 2019, 08:23:05 AM
[ is not capable of microtransactions unlike with Ethereum

ETH had higher fees than bitcoin for s decent stretch of time. Most of the chains that boast about capacity and low cost are empty so that will never be properly put to the test.
4498  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase could buy Xapo on: May 18, 2019, 03:52:44 PM
So basically one shiity service is buying another to create the most fucked up crypto wallet of the future? Nice!

I don't know what retard does it take it create a wallet on Xapo in 2019. I don't even know how a wallet service earns so much money that get sold for millions. This is a different ballgame altogether.

The wallet for peons and their custody service will be very, very different beasts. You probably get to share a hot tub with Wences when you sign up for the blue riband service.
4499  Economy / Speculation / Re: MtGox trustees dumping coins again? on: May 18, 2019, 02:29:13 AM
The Gox trustee needs, like, a reason to dump.

As it stands their previous dumpage met all of their fiat liabilities. If there's to be future dumpage it'll only be for the requirements of victims who want fiat. That could still be a couple of years away before it's fully settled by the sounds of it.
4500  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you buy a coffee using BTC during current times? on: May 18, 2019, 12:44:19 AM
Though I'm all for affordable on chain usage I do wish the coffee thing would bog off forever. It should never have popped up in the first place.

I would hope the people who were around in 2009/10/11 who came up with it recognised that the empty and effectively free chain they had was because of the luxury of their obscurity rather than the final intention.
