3501  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: It costs more to use bitcoin on bitpay than bitcoin cash on: August 27, 2019, 12:26:50 PM
A lot of bitcoiners hold both, I always suggested the smart thing to do was to hold both coins at the fork.  BCH has hung around better than a lot of people expected and I wouldn't be surprised if it pumped to insane levels like it did during the last bull run.

I've still got plenty which I've been happily spending over the years. I fully expect it to go nuts again. But Bitpay embracing is a dead end all the same. No one's going to buy it to save a few cents on fees. The chain is empty which shows that hardly anyone is using it.

Even if they hate Bitcoin there's little reason to reject the tools that'll make them more money other than that hate.
3502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is the brain wallet not better than regular paper wallet? on: August 27, 2019, 12:06:40 PM
Brain wallet is the safest method if your words are random and you have a good memory.

I have about three regulars passwords that I jumble up for stuff I don't really care about all that much. There are multiple encrypted folders I can no longer access and I'm certain they have variations on passwords I've used forever.

It's not worth the bother attempting to crack them but if I can't remember things based on 2-3 phrases burnt into my memory for decades there's no way I'd ever trust my memory for anything important, and that's long before we get to the average human's inability to be properly random.
3503  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance Lending on: August 27, 2019, 11:46:26 AM
What do you mean?

If you're going to choose to put money in an exchange it pays to be aware of what they're willing to do with that money. Bitfinex gave $850 million to a piece of shit shadow bank and when they asked nicely for it back there wasn't much response.

3504  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM: Bitcoin SV (BSV) - fake team member and plagiarized white paper on: August 27, 2019, 10:09:33 AM
And if you want some genuinely pitiful reading then here is a fountain of deadheaded thinking - https://old.reddit.com/r/bitcoincashSV/

I for one refuse to pollute my mind with such execrable stupidity but others might.
3505  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance Lending on: August 27, 2019, 09:28:19 AM
Use Bitfinex to lend your coins they have proven their worth.

Bitfinex forced a 36% haircut on their users, even if they got a little token as compensation. And let's not forget their happiness to hand over hundreds of millions of dollars to con artists. I wouldn't trust them any further than I could defecate them.

I don't trust Binance either. I presume they are more competent than Poloniex but no one knows what goes on behind the scenes of these joints and lending is an area where they all seem happy to rape their customers.
3506  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why entry to crpyto space is very difficult for newcomers? on: August 27, 2019, 08:13:17 AM
If newbies want to know something then they should ask. If it's a valid question then it'll be answered.

There are a million guides out there now. Info on every conceivable angle is waiting to be found. If you arrived in 2010 then lack of info would have been a valid moan.

Common sense is one of the main things I see lacking. I don't see why a newcomer does lack it. If someone's offering to double your money tomorrow then that's clearly unsustainable. You wouldn't put a dollar into something like that so why would you put some bitcoin in?

Another regular spot is a flat out refusal to listen to the hard won experience of others. People arrive with a plan and will not deviate from it no matter what they're advised.

There's enough track record to realise shittokens are... shit. No excuse to buy into any of it when the numbers are accessible to everyone.

I remember my fresh arrival. At that time Mt Gox was still the main recommendation to buy BTC. I spent five minutes reading about it - far off land, no regulation, previous hacks, beach ball? - and immediately discarded the idea of using it.

I knew nothing. I still knew a disaster in waiting when I saw it.
3507  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sats rather than Bitcoin - will it cause a price pump? on: August 27, 2019, 07:53:10 AM
One zero in the wrong place will also cause people to lose a lot of money, if you do not concentrate on what you doing.  Roll Eyes

Which is exactly the case with mbtc, bits or whatever. I still find it confusing. I would have to check a converter for anything priced in mbtc every single time. Me brain can't wrap itself around it.

BTC or Satoshis are the only units that make sense to me. Anything in the middle has the potential for expensive mistakes and confusion.
3508  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM: Bitcoin SV (BSV) - fake team member and plagiarized white paper on: August 27, 2019, 07:43:59 AM
So btc will now pay a high price. Most for heir tax

Presumably you're a performance artist. Let me know when your project launches. I'll look forward to wine and nibblies.

Fun to read the BSV justifications this morning. One of the main ones is because it's now 'legal' that Craig is unquestionably Satoshi the Kleimans will get half a million coins that don't exist and destroy everything.

It seems to slip their mind he'll also get half a million non existent BSVs and since most BSVs haven't been claimed that's going to annihilate it in a non existent matter.

This reminds me of when r/btc latched on to the idea of Tether's takedown 'destroying' BTC and obsessed over it for months while stroking their genitals. They were too fucking dim or lazy to realise that just might have an effect on their Bcashes too.
3509  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM: Bitcoin SV (BSV) - fake team member and plagiarized white paper on: August 26, 2019, 09:31:27 PM
Another thread here, there other is a BSV zombie - https://twitter.com/KatieAnanina/status/1166083984830410759

I guess the main takeaway is that Craigy is now a rubber stamped and fully endorsed liar. But we all knew that anyway and that never stopped him before. I wonder what his next move is. It could Dancing With The Stars.

And I don't get the IP reward. How does a court award that when there's no proof Kleiman, let alone the penis opposing, had anything to do with BTC? I could just about wrap my head around pretend coins, but not that.
3510  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM: Bitcoin SV (BSV) - fake team member and plagiarized white paper on: August 26, 2019, 09:10:41 PM
OWES 50% OF IP AND COINS MINED.

50% of something that's never existed. What a strange wee diversion this entire thing has been.

No talk of civil or criminal contempt mentioned.

Quel dommage. At least Craigy said sorry, but he probably had his fingers crossed.

3511  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin mixers be considered illegal by worldwide governments? on: August 26, 2019, 05:50:07 PM
https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/chainalysis-most-mixed-bitcoin-not-used-for-illicit-purposes

Less than 10% of coins are mixed for illicit purposes according to that, though who knows whether the people claiming it have the slightest clue. Privacy is the number one inspiration for its use.
3512  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Barclays Bank UK ending Coinbase partnership on: August 25, 2019, 09:27:45 PM
People are harking about this news as if it is something that actually affects either Coinbase or Barclays. It was a business tie-up. It ended. There'll be other banks and other relationships that'll be worked on behind the scenes. No point in rebroadcasting the same news in multiple posts here. I also did not consider Barclays to be a big roleplayer in crypto sector.

Stuff like this is notable. The UK crypto scene is stunted because of the lack of banking. This was a big step towards it catching up.

The US crypto scene is dependent on a very small number of banks. If one of them throws in the towel in a similar manner you can bet your tight buns it would be major news. Whether we like it or not conventional banking is a major factor.
3513  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Which US bank is the most crypto-friendly? on: August 25, 2019, 08:06:06 PM
After this post I tried getting in touch with a rep of Signet, I didn't get through to anyone since it was a weekend. I will try again and post my experience of what they say here in this thread or create a new post if there are some important things to share. It's just that I'd feel pretty awkward pretending to be a hopeful retail customer for them, never window shopped banks before ya'know..

Keep us posted. I assume even the most crypto friendly bank will have made their existing clients jump through a million hoops before deigning to business with them. A cold call will probably earn a chuckle at least.
3514  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitstamp :( warnings and rejoinders. on: August 25, 2019, 06:11:16 PM
it's not understaffing or financial problems. i think they actually take the legal position that their actions are wholly justified. except when banks do this, they ostensibly contact the police and hold the funds in escrow. when bitstamp does it, they just quietly steal the customer's money and hide out in the balkans.

they may have changed their "registration" address to the UK but they are not based there in any capacity. that address is just the corporate formation lawyers that did bitstamp's UK registration. it's no better than a virtual office or forwarding address.

I've never heard of a flat out theft. The people who complain seem to go quiet or say they eventually got their money back. A lot of times when they return fiat there seem to be big arse fees out of nowhere but they blame intermediaries.

The UK registration has always been nothing other than a rented mailbox.
3515  Other / Meta / Re: Random merit giveaway threads. What do you think about them? on: August 25, 2019, 05:09:51 PM
I thought of creating a separate thread but decided to bump or revive this one instead.

With these random merit giveaway threads popping out every now and then, don't you think it's good to have a dedicated board for them (maybe a childboard on BH). I have seen three recently created threads already and I'm sure there are older but still active threads.

It would be interesting to see some stats about merit threads. I often peruse them and it's mainly worthless shitposters who somehow think that highlighting their shitpost will magically get some merit.

A child board would be a sea of shit and would be an automatic ignore for me.

I think it's best left in the wild and handed over without any solicitation or expectation. I reckon those who want to focus their merit giving should be free to do so but a formal endorsement with its own forum sends out the wrong message.
3516  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: It costs more to use bitcoin on bitpay than bitcoin cash on: August 25, 2019, 04:49:10 PM
they definitely have an algorithm that adjusts to network congestion

Interesting. I haven't used them in a long old time so I had no idea there was something dynamic in place.

If I remember rightly it's a bitch to find out what actual address you're sending to. Is there anyone who has looked in to what fees they pay to move the coins on from there? I wonder if they lay it on fee wise for their own move or keep a nice wee chunk and skimp which must add up. I can't believe they'll be throwing money away.
3517  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bank account froze after selling btc (UK) on: August 25, 2019, 04:29:31 PM
I wonder  is there are lists in the UK  of tainted btc addresses and you sold a coin to one on the list?  If so you are never going to see the money.

The UK government doesn't give a shit. No way could they be bothered to do something like this. They're too busy destroying themselves.

The sum total of everything government agencies have said about crypto is a couple of pages about tax guidance, some recent clarification from the Financial Conduct Authority about what might or might not be a security, and some moaning about stopping CFDs that's amounted to nothing so far.

That's yer lot pretty much.

The UK's banking problems are because nothing's been said, not because too much has been restricted.
3518  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: It costs more to use bitcoin on bitpay than bitcoin cash on: August 25, 2019, 02:12:04 PM
From what I see Roger Ver is one of early investors in BitPay, so probably he can dictate such behavior.

No competently run business would follow the orders of a solitary investor. If he owned it that would be a different matter, but he doesn't.

Clearly they're aligned enough with his thinking. Bitmain also put money in. I presume they've been offered a financial incentive of some sort.

Kraken are full Segwit. They also have many more serious investors. If he told them to drop it they would tell him where to stick it.
3519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bank account froze after selling btc (UK) on: August 25, 2019, 12:54:04 PM
The biggest issue regarding UK banking and crypto is not legality or regulations, it's the complete lack of them.

It's certainly not illegal but banks are basically having to get involved without knowing what regulations there may be in the future.

Why bother taking the risk?
3520  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: It costs more to use bitcoin on bitpay than bitcoin cash on: August 25, 2019, 09:01:47 AM
That's a BS excuse they like to pull to encourage people to switch to bcash. They wanted me to pay an extra ~$0.70 when the 6 blocks fee was 1 sat/B. Since I just wanted to buy a pizza that would amount to an effective fee of almost 10%.

To be fair to them, not that they really deserve it, there have been high spikes in fees for a few hours here and there relatively recently. In an ideal world they'd have some sort of monitoring and live adjustments of what they charge but that could be hard to put together.

They're in the business of getting payments confirmed.

Bcash will always cost fuck all to use. BTC on occasion will definitely not.
