4161  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Bitcoin Forks -How to Claim the most valueable ones with Coinomi(trusted wallet) on: June 20, 2019, 09:44:58 AM
I'm personally claim only BCH, other forks are pretty worthless - but since I still have my seed where my BTC was in time of forks it is never later to do that. In fact there are no time limit for claim such coins, the only thing that is changing is their price.

There have been plenty of other forks that were worth claiming and in most of their cases there definitely was a time limit as they became worthless or the chain died.

Bitpie/Bither allowed you to claim some of the obscure ones. On checking some of them again the other day most of them are now stuck in there forever.
4162  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Another cryptos debit card is coming on: June 20, 2019, 09:31:37 AM
Yeah, you may as well cough up the $10(plus transact fees) needed for bitpay’s card instead of essentially entering a lottery. Also, is it really necessary to disrupt the market? They probably just want to sell debit cards.

Shit like this really pisses me off. Either they're ready to serve customers or they're not. If you're not ready don't prick tease. Instead don't launch it.

Same goes for debit cards that have tokens. What the fuck do you need a token for other than fleecing people? Some of these cards have dragged it out literally for years.

There's shit tons of money to be made by this one radical act - give a debit card to whomever requests one and then charge them fees to use it.

Anyone who deviates from that model is suspect and irritating.
4163  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How long realistically before global mandatory kyc on all exchange/VASP? on: June 20, 2019, 09:23:04 AM
they've been known to liquidate positions and terminate accounts over logging in from the USA, but i've never heard of them confiscating deposits over it. americans should definitely limit the funds they keep there, but for many of us it's a risk worth taking.

I'm not saying they'll deprive you of your money. You may find yourself cut off with some sort of open position that winds up getting screwed though. I dunno what their process is. I'm sure they're still infested with Americans and they know it.
4164  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: John McAfee launches the McAfee Magic trading platform on: June 19, 2019, 08:52:29 PM
Btw, since somebody has posted a link from his tweeter account, has he gone completely mad?

The resemblance is eerie.

The thing I don't get about people who are dominated by one characteristic, raging paranoia in his case, is why they don't just occasionally get bored of it or question it when it's clear everyone else on the planet is not that way. He's kept it up 24/7 for many, many years now. Even if you're fucked in the head you should retain a little bit of objectivity somewhere.
4165  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: FACEBOOK COIN (LIBRA) , VISA AND MASTERCARD- My take on: June 19, 2019, 03:15:52 PM
but still i think this project could be great and with stable coins that are backed by many big company , i think it will attract many people to know about crypto and even increasing the number of transaction volume of cryptocurrency. Lets see what they could be and i do think it would be wise to not judge before its happening.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing for real cryptocurrency. This isn't a cryptocurrency and it probably won't be permitted to exist in the form they're proposing.

If it fails then it's a lesson in why BTC's design is necessary. If it succeeds and the world becomes enslaved by the Libra foundation it's an even better lesson in why we need BTC.
4166  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: FACEBOOK COIN (LIBRA) , VISA AND MASTERCARD- My take on: June 19, 2019, 11:07:29 AM
I think Libra; when released will be nothing like what many anticipate - a cryptocurrency in shinning armor,

No one believes this. It's a fiat token under the control of multiple corporations, none of whom are going to agree on anything anyway.

I think if it ever actually does emerge it's going to look very, very different to the proposal as there's been instant uproar from the establishment.

It'll be a similar trajectory to Paypal. Paypal's original vision was strikingly similar to Libra then it got punked by banks and governments until it was the soulless annoyance it is today.
4167  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-06-18] Binance announced barring US customers from accessing its services on: June 18, 2019, 09:13:19 PM
If I was American then I would immediately dump all my BNB and then withdraw funds to a different exchange which is more liberal. Kucoin is from Singapore or perhaps Huobi which is another good exchange and fairly liberal.

They'll all do the same in the end. It's just too much hassle dealing with Americans.

Anyway this presages a new US focused exchange for Binance customers but they had to partner with an American company to do it. I dunno if they can pool liquidity with the rest of Binance or not.
4168  Economy / Speculation / Re: Calling top at $16500 (Even Newer!: $2483 bottom 19 Feb 2021 MtGox said so!) on: June 18, 2019, 05:19:49 PM
You witnessed just one bubble, and this capitulation never felt like a real capitulation compared to the one in 2015.

Try saying that to anyone who got in during the most recent bubble and they'll feel rather differently. 95-99% down in most alts is good enough. 83% for BTC does the job for most too.

I think what most people have been looking for is boredom, lack of attention and utter despair. Since so many more people arrived since 2013 that's not going to be same no matter what but I have seen plenty of sadness.

2013 could have been a one off and no one could be sure whether that was the case well into 2015/16. I don't believe that's the case any more.

Anyone who's been here since 2013 is too deformed to know what 'proper' capitulation should feel like any more.
4169  Economy / Economics / Re: How Will FB Coin/JPM Coin Impact the Cryptocurrency Ecosystem? on: June 18, 2019, 04:27:32 PM
One of the most interesting and potentially alarming things is that we get fast tracked into finding out what governments REALLY feel about something crypto esque and it's not even anywhere near the full fat version.

They've suddenly had a muscular proposition land in their laps from nowhere and so far they don't seem too jolly.
4170  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How long realistically before global mandatory kyc on all exchange/VASP? on: June 18, 2019, 04:20:20 PM
How about Binance though? They are offering a trading platform customized to US citizens, partnering with BAM Trading Services. But they haven't release any date yet as far as I know. I'm not a US citizen but I can feel where you coming from, US regulators are really coming down very hard on every US crypto enthusiast that it's really hard to get like yourself going in this crypto sphere.

They're creating it to presumably be fully US compliant and as this thread ably demonstrates the US doesn't want people playing with margin unless they're big swinging dicks.

The very short lived gdax margin trading was for institutions and stuff only.
4171  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How long realistically before global mandatory kyc on all exchange/VASP? on: June 18, 2019, 01:52:57 PM
I do hope you don't have any money on Bitmex because it's been shut for Americans for ages. Presumably you're accessing through a VPN. Make sure you don't slip up.

The only place I can think of off the top of my head is Kraken, but getting dollars on there is not simple.
4172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [JUNE 2019] Fees are low, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs! on: June 18, 2019, 01:37:40 PM
This site is however confusing me https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#0,1w
Which of these should I use to send my transaction during the best time?

At the risk of blowing my cool, I don't get that site in the slightest.

At present and as long as you're not in a hurry any fee above truly piddling amounts will get you there in the end. Like I said 7-9 have worked within a few hours for me recently.

I wouldn't be 100% about 1-2.
4173  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 18, 2019, 01:11:45 PM
Of course someone is scared this Libra thing could actually work after all:

I think this is why there are no banks involved. They know perfectly well what a roasting it may attract.
4174  Economy / Economics / Re: How Will FB Coin/JPM Coin Impact the Cryptocurrency Ecosystem? on: June 18, 2019, 12:10:14 PM
I will not deny the fact that the introduction of this Facebook coin or globalcoin and gpmcoin is going to affect cryptocurrency negative because they are trying to take us back to the centralized transactions type that bitcoin and blockchain technology is trying to abolish! However, I still believe that bitcoin will find it way out at the end.

I think the effect is neutral/positive.

It won't tempt anyone out of crypto who's already in it. It may open some minds that otherwise wouldn't have been opened and they'll give the real deal some thought.

The reason most people are in crypto is to make more dollars. That's not an option with this. There really isn't very much overlap at all.
4175  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 18, 2019, 10:08:10 AM
I am somewhat neutral (leaning on positive) about Facebook coin. I see pros and cons. Anyway, it was a natural thing to exist and good or bad Bitcoin will have to cope with it. We will see.

Exciting times are coming to crypto along the next few years.

P.S.: I am eager to see how facebook solves the "tax issue"... I mean, even just buying one single facecoin and using it to buy something would be a taxable event and most countries do NOT have any amount exempt. Of course I do not expect anyone to fill taxes on that just for a few tens of $ but it will be interesting if/when facebook claims to have millions of users of their coin and almost no one filling tax reports on it.

Which reminds me that if this crypto thingie continues adoption it is tax agencies which will have to adapt to the new paradigm and not the other way. We will see.

It feels a little like the original vision for Paypal which was pretty darned far out. Then real life got its claws in and it was brought to Earth, and to heel.

Facebook and friends obviously have far more clout than the original Paypal crew but it's telling there are no proper financial institutions involved.
4176  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the reason Amazon hasn't adopted Bitcoin? on: June 18, 2019, 09:54:28 AM
There's no reason to accept BTC.

It won't encourage more custom. It will cost them more in hassle and support dealing with problems.

The only people who want it are existing BTC hoarders who want other people to spend to make them feel good about themselves.
4177  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Wirex- Bitcoin Debit Card | Buy Bitcoin | Mobile Banking | Send Money on: June 18, 2019, 09:50:51 AM
Well, I have my first issue requiring support. The verified by Visa password has been blocked, not that I remember setting one, and they say to contact the provider to reset it. In quite a few places I can't spend online with it now.

Using the word 'password' got bot responses from support about resetting my Wirex password which is fully present and fine. Using the phrase 'pass word' to attempt to get a real person got a response about looking into it several days ago. Nada since.

I most certainly will never be indulging in anything that requires their potential intervention like bank transfers based on the uselessness on display.

4179  Economy / Economics / Re: How Will FB Coin/JPM Coin Impact the Cryptocurrency Ecosystem? on: June 18, 2019, 09:03:28 AM
"...built on the foundation of a blockchain (the Libra Blockchain)."

Well that seals the deal. It's a closed/permissioned network. There's no decentralized blockchain to allow robust secondary markets or prevent censorship. This seems just as gimmicky as Binance's "DEX."

It says the aim is to start to become permissionless within five years and it's going to be open source whatever. I haven't finished the paper fully but it's a bit less nauseating than I was expecting so far.

Now I'm confused. Doesn't Calibra = Facebook?

They're saying it's a separate thing to keep financial stuff segregated.

I just read through it. Overall it's pretty much in line with what I was expecting but perhaps more of an emphasis on it eventually being open to all than I expected. However that's how Paypal started too.

The smart contract function in particular makes me wonder about stuff like ETH and similar projects. No doubt it's going to be vastly more secure and simple and contract makers don't want volatility either.

This regards Facebookcoin's wallet, https://www.calibra.com not Facebookcoin itself, but it does reveal a bit.

Full KYC, custodial wallet, a mention of fees.

It's currently down so here's some snapshots - https://imgur.com/a/65TYsPa

This is what appears to be the Libra white paper - https://libra.org/en-US/white-paper/#introduction
