461  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The next key for btc price keep growing : trade mbtc on: December 04, 2013, 02:31:51 AM
Changing to mbtc is a horrible idea especially on exchanges, Bitcoin needs to maintain this premium feel with a high dollar price tag in btc to lead the charge not dilute it's image with mbtc it'll end up looking more like dev coin (that's no offence to Devcoin)

If someone new wants in to btc then they'll need to see plainly the value whether thats 1btc=$1000 1btc=10,000 1btc=100,000 lets not start being embarrassed by Bitcoin's price.

The thing is, people think "oh wow... 1,000 dollras for an imaginary count... you're kidding".  Or they'll think "yup, missed the boat, at 1,000 dollars, it'll NEVER GO higher for something that 21 million of exist".  But at say 1mBTC per dollar, or 1,000 uBTC per dollar, people won't feed bad about putting some money into it.

I do understand but I would be extremely cautious about adopting this mind set, bitcoins fought hard to attain this price and no need to start trying to appease Future buyers by giving the illusion that supply has increased and price has fallen ......... Work hard to buy a Rolex, see the value and craftsmanship ... Are you happy with one or would it take ten watches to be happy

No sir ......... When people hear about the bitcoin price there's a certain look, stance and sound thats required from them so they know their dealing with a heavy weight it goes as follows :-

Hands on hips for stability - head slightly raised to the sky - two furled eyebrows with tightly closed eyes, 1 pair of pursed lips and a whistling sound of expelled air -

then you know you've made an impact - mbtc - no thank you.

I like chocolate cake if I'm hungry I cut it into 4 pieces and eat those, if I'm very hungry I might cut it into 8 pieces and eat those, when I'm absolutely starving I cut it into 16 pieces and munch down the lot .

Roughly 10 billion has moved into the cryptocurrency sector in a month, even Ben bernanke gave it a nod of approval imagine what that would have done for gold or silver , so I say it's the bernanke effect after all he is head of the printing presses , the QE Program is churning out 85 billion dollars per month making bitcoins market cap look tiny  Grin

I think it'll continue the same cycle parabolic rise, correction, parabolic rise, correction . Next stop $3000 as it moves higher inevitably it divides and spreads into more hands as the urge to sell increases with each parabolic spike .

It's interesting to compare it to Internet adoption -

https://nwww.google.co.uk/trends/explore#q=Litecoin&cmpt=q
https://www.google.co.uk/trends/explore#q=Bitcoin&cmpt=q

I still remember what I thought about the Internet, email, even utube, when I first heard about them , Internet=what on earths the interweb,  email=who am I going to need to email, utube=who wants to sit and watch other people's home movies

A conversation you might have in years to come

Donald :yes I got to know about Bitcoin quite early on old boy.

Randy: that's great Donald, boy that sure is swell you must be rich enough to buy Buckinghamshire palace.

Donald: if only........I sold all my bitcoin when they reached £5000

Randy : awkward silence

Donald : awkward silence

Randy : that sucks.

Customer Announcement

Dear MtGox Customers,

Thank you for your patience during an incredible year for Bitcoin and MtGox. We’ve not been able to communicate as we may have wanted, but we’ve been working tirelessly in the background and we’re looking forward to even more progress in the coming weeks, which we’ll be announcing soon.

We have four developments that we are proud to announce today:

Introduction of the MtGox OTP Card
Increased limit for SEPA withdrawals from Poland
A modified trading interface
Trade with no fees from Bitcoin Black Friday through Cyber Monday
1) Introducing the MtGox OTP (One-Time Password) Card:

With Bitcoin prices at record highs you can never be too careful with maintaining account security. Malicious parties can compromise your login information if you aren’t careful, but by using a one-time password (OTP) you can prevent anyone from being able to use that information to access your account.

To have secure OTP on all devices, we have now released the MtGox OTP Card, a physical one-time password solution that can be used for your MtGox account, and is shipping immediately. Used on its own, or combined with other solutions such as the MtGox Yubikey, you can rest assured that MtGox provides you with the most secure account protection in the Bitcoin world.

To find out more, click here: https://www.mtgox.com/help/otp_card

2) Increased SEPA withdrawal limits

You’ve been asking for it, and now we’ve managed to negotiate with our bank in Poland to better facilitate SEPA withdrawals. In fact, they’ve doubled our limit. This is great news, and we’re trying to get more all the time to increase the speed of withdrawals.

3) Modified trading interface released

While not exactly a site overhaul, we’ve changed the MtGox experience by making the trading interface cleaner and easier to use. This includes color-coding based on trading activity, a new confirmation step before trade finalization, and a display highlighting applicable fees for the trade so you know exactly how much you’re spending per transaction.

4) Bitcoin Black Friday through Cyber Monday – Trade with Zero Fees!

To celebrate Bitcoin Black Friday and encourage adoption of Bitcoin by merchants and consumers, MtGox is cutting trading fees to 0% for four full days starting Friday morning through midnight on Cyber Monday. Since your trading is free, get out there and support merchants that accept Bitcoin!

Additional Points:

To increase the speed of Bitcoin transactions, we will now require all Bitcoin transfers to pay the standard 0.001 BTC network fee. The fee will be charged separately from your balance.
We’ve recently released the launch version of bitcoins.com, an information site for all things Bitcoin. The site is not centered on MtGox specifically and we've tried to keep it as neutral as possible in order to promote Bitcoin. Please visit and share with anyone who needs an introduction to the economic future we’re building together.

Thank you again for your support.

Best regards,
The MtGox Team

Bitcoin reached silver parity at $30 around February this year, with 1oz of silver today worth $19.94 looks like Litecoin's nearly there.

Ps. Silver is mined at the rate of the entire litecoin supply of 84 million per month every month  Grin
