Works for me. Are you sure you are subscribed to BITMINTED with Yo?
482  Other / Archival / Re: Mining pools list on: November 23, 2014, 07:47:12 PM
Interesting. Looks like a very good start.

Adding pool fee should be pretty easy. Merged mining will take more work.

What are expected shares?

Quick question for you Doc !

I have an old BFL miner that I keep running (it's winter here) and I set the min Diff to 32 on the worker, but when it start to mine on the pool, it always start with a diff of 16 before it stabilize to 32 just after like 30 sec.

Bug or normal ?

As soon as you are authenticated the diff should be 32 if you set minimum diff 32.

Which mining client are you using?

PM me your user name and worker name and I'll have a look.

Hi, i'm totally new to bitmining so don't mock me  Grin

I have a silly question, I'm in a place where I don't have to pay electricity at all, and I started mining with my laptop GPU getting around 33Mhps where as I can leave it open 24/7. Is it worth it? Not making huge loads of money, but a penny or so?

No, it's not worth it. Mining on CPU and GPU is over, for two reasons.

1. You earn less than the electricity costs. So the more you mine, the more money you lose.

2. It is so slow that you never earn enough to reach the minimum cash out amount for any pool. So you actually get nothing. You just burn electricity.

You need ASIC to mine. You can try it for a couple hours on GPU to find out how mining works. But that's all it is good for.

Which mining pool is the most profitable currently? Huh

That's an interesting question, which noone actually tries to give a real answer to. Probably because it's a little complex. Which pool is most profitable to mine for you depends on a lot of factors. I'd say there are two main influences on how profitable a pool will be for you. One is variance, which is determined by pool hashrate and reward system (PPS, DGM, others). The more variance the more luck will influence your profits. The other I'd call the expected average income. The variance tells you how far the income is likely to vary from the expected average over the short term.

Expected average income is determined by a lot of factors, which many miners probably don't realize:

  • Which ratio of rejected work are you getting? Some pools have a higher average reject ratio than other pools. On some pools your individual reject ratio may be especially low. Some pools artificially lower your reject ratio by paying rejected work. This is not actually an improvement. It means people with low reject ratio (good setup) are forced to give some of their income to people with high reject ratio (bad internet line, bad equipment).
  • What ratio of orphaned blocks does the pool have? (ignore for pps pools)
  • What's the average income from a block in the pool?  (ignore for pps pools) Some pools will have a higher income from transaction fees. Some pools keep the transaction fees and don't pay them out to miners.
  • How much of a bonus do you get from merged mining? Depends on which other coins are merged mined, their current value compared to bitcoin, average income per block for the pool, orphan ratio for the merged coins, difficulty, etc.
  • What is the pool fee?
  • Other factors I forgot?

There are some factors that are the same for all pools, like bitcoin difficulty, bitcoin value and your expenses, like electricity. Bitcoin mining calculators seem to cover these well, but they don't cover most of the factors above that are individual to each pool.

All that said, there's a lot of other reasons for picking a pool than a small difference in mining income.

Do you (or have you heard) a back of the envelope guess at the rate for doing this with a GPU in this fashion?  Ten cents on the dollar? Worse?

Much much worse. Google "bitcoin mining calculator" and see.

You can see your work registered on the workers page, under "my account" -> "workers" in the website menu. Also on the shifts page https://bitminter.com/shifts and for the current round in the live stats at https://bitminter.com/livestats/big

Unfortunately mining has move to specialized ASIC hardware.

Mining on CPU ended in 2011 and GPU ended in 2013. You earn less than the electricity costs, so the more you mine the more money you lose. And it is so slow you never reach the minimum cash out amount, so you end up with nothing - just burning electricity.

Here is a list of ASIC mining machines:

11 days is an incredibly short test.

Will be getting my Spondoolies SP35 Yukon pretty soon (hopefully) and been searching for a pool. Bitminter is my top choice so far. This will be my first mining rig and I'm pretty excited about it. I'm retarded for bitcoin and just like the idea of supporting/furthering the decentralization and the network. Hopefully I can make a couple btc without having to trade for them while I'm at it. cheers.

Awesome! Good luck with your mining and let me know if you need any help Smiley

I did get a nmc sound off a couple nights ago.

Must be a bug.. I'll see if I can catch it.
491  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Whatever happened to Bitcoin Affiliate Network? on: November 14, 2014, 11:05:05 AM
PPLNS is taking 40% from the blocks, even the zero fee PPLNS pools which pay out all income from the blocks?

I'll try to focus on the positives. Thank you for making this your final post.
492  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter bitcoin mining pool - Pays TxFees, Merged Mining, Fair PPLNS rewards on: November 14, 2014, 12:04:08 AM
I can't remember when I removed NMC blocks from the livestats. I think it's a long time ago.

The live stats page (full size version) can play a sound when a block is found if you turn it on.

Yep, use it all the time ... trouble is (when I hear the sound) ... I check the computer .. is it NMC or BTC?

Bummer when it's NMC .. how about different sounds for different currency? (Just an idea).

Is it still playing the sound for NMC blocks? It's only supposed to react to BTC blocks after I removed NMC blocks from the livestats latest blocks list.

Is it possible to get a feature where I get an email when a block is found?  Since we're basically finding them about once a day now, it'd be nice to get notified rather than look on the website all the time to see that nothing has changed/happened.  If this already exists, can someone tell me where to find it?  Thanks.

Hopefully I can add email notifications for blocks in the future. I have some things ahead of that in the work queue though.

Currently there are three ways to be notified of blocks:

The live stats page (full size version) can play a sound when a block is found if you turn it on.

The IRC chat channel has block announcements through MintBot.

marklyon has a block announcer on YO that you can subscribe to: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=788753.msg8994691#msg8994691

mining software (bitminter) is talking to the pool ..... what am I missing Huh

Hi and welcome to the pool Smiley

You get paid when blocks are found. Sometimes we find the next block quickly, other times it takes longer.

Blocks we have found: https://bitminter.com/blocks

Anyone else having trouble adding an email addres? Trying to put a gmail one in there and it keeps saying it's an invalid address.

Try with all lower case letters (no capital letters).

Only namecoin.

I'm not trying to lynch anyone or bash other pools.

I'm saying that it is OK to ask questions if someone pays you 10% more than what you're selling is worth. Just like it's OK to ask questions if someone pays you a 7% weekly profit on your "investment". A lot more people should have asked questions about Bitcoin Savings and Trust.

Personal insults and name calling as a response is not ok.

Hand-waving and non-sensical arguments designed to cause confusion is not an answer. We've seen that before, usually from scammers.

I'm not saying BAN is a scam. I don't know much about it, personally. Maybe they are operating at a big loss in the beginning to get their pool off the ground and will charge fees later. Maybe cyberpinoy is a puppet account of someone trying to make BAN look like a scam. Who knows.

I'm objecting to the behavior of some people in this thread, and arguments that make no sense whatsoever. If that means I'm in a lynch mob I'll have to get some rope.

My pool went nuts with luck the last 2 days.

If you want to bet against the odds you can rent hashpower at high prices too. Wink
500  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Whatever happened to Bitcoin Affiliate Network? on: November 08, 2014, 06:33:15 PM
it all the same and comes down to weather he is lucky enough to find the blocks.

When you pay a very high price to rent hashes and a very high price for people to mine in your pool you have to be extremely lucky just to break even.

Noone is that lucky.
