ADD some pics.

5 borads under test.

5 boards max power:

ADD:

2nd batch of another 30 boards are on the way. next week they will be assembled, but will not open for sell until first batch's response is ok.

It would need to be a pretty large (LUT count) FPGA to push 500MH/s per chip.  No chip that large is going to draw <10W under load.  Not based on 65nm design right?

...s...asic

And perhaps the prototype they gave inaba still had a regular fpga.

a AT45DB642 (U5) tells us a lot. It is a FPGA and needs up to  64Mbits for config data storage. So, it's 1.1V and it's 29*29mm (approx), so, it is altera EP3SL150F780 for near 100% possibility. this fpga's config bit steam is  47Mbit.

or

EP3SL110F780, also 47Mbit

hardcopy is impossible, because they are still working at the code. a hardcopy need a freezed RTL, fully tested.

rph is advertising his boards at ~1$ per MH, but not for sell... Sad

My design is DIY; it's $1/MH if you build it at home with hobby techniques and don't
have to pay someone to license the design, populate and solder the board,
test/debug it, etc.

A fully assembled/tested miner w/ 1-2 45nm FPGAs is going to cost more than that.

A fully assembled/tested miner w/ 100 45nm FPGAs can cost less than that.

-rph

how about your cool miner... Embarrassed
486  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA development board "Icarus" for mining purpose - pre-order started. on: December 01, 2011, 02:46:56 PM
Looks like it's time to update the "pre-order started" part of the thread title Smiley

yeah, wait a minute.

To Inaba:

I know you can't give exact numbers but can you give us more of a ballpark.

When running stable (no false hashes) was performance in the 900 to 1000 MH range or 600 to 800 or <600 MH?

When you say power was more but not 200W well now FPGA on the planet (not even one for 10 years ago) uses 200W.  Hell most CPU don't use more than 200W.

So is "more power" =
still <30W?
30W - 40W?
>40W?

Less hashes & more power could mean anything from slightly worse than expected but still decent to worse than products already on sale by other manufacturers. I know you are prohibited from giving exact numbers but not providing a firmer ballpark range on stats does a disservice to the 3+ FPGA developers who have always supported the Bitcoin community and have real products w/ real verified results.  They have had sales impacted as people wait for results from this magical unicorn.  If you feel you can be firmer but not exact and still meet the spirit of your agreement that would be the right thing to do.

Can someone run down the current MH/s and power draw of the current offerings?  I can give you an idea of how it compares when compared to what's currently available for sale.  From what I know (which may be inaccurate, which is why I ask for the run down) the BFL offering exceeds everything available that I know of by a substantial margin in hashing power (at stable speeds), although I'm not sure about power draw.

you mean how to test the power draw?

i use this one:

5 boards running @ max power
488  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: POLL: Miners, do you pay for electricity? on: December 01, 2011, 01:51:02 PM
during test, near 3G rig is running, cost 120watt Cheesy

sorry, there are some math mistakes. 1.8G @ 100W, i re-tested them today.
489  Other / Off-topic / Re: 1GH/s, 20w, $500 — Butterflylabs, is it a scam? on: December 01, 2011, 01:48:09 PM
ztex's boards are available at close to $1 per MH if purchased in bulk (100 unit licensed run).
ngzhang boards are getting >25MH/W.

It would be like ngzhang advertising his board as 400MH.  Technically w/ an optimized enough bitstream it is possible to get 200MH out of a Spartan LX150.  Good thing ngzhang has more integrity than that.  He advertised what he could actually delivery.
ngzhang is advertising his boards as 360 MH, not 200. May be you were thinking of ztex ?
And ztex is advertising his boards at ~1.6$ per MH, not $1 per MH (100 unit order)

So a simple case of over promising.  No fancy sASIC, not high end components simply over promising.

$500 was a bait and switch for the $700 price tag.  If power is higher and performance is lower then likely (sorry can't be more specific since our tester was prohibited from giving hard numbers) it is in the same league as our resident FPGA designers.  Maybe a little faster (but multiple false hashes in one nonce range is very bad, i.e. 50%+ server rejection rate) but nothing cutting edge.

ztex's boards are available at close to $1 per MH if purchased in bulk (100 unit licensed run).
ngzhang boards are getting >25MH/W.

What made this product "amazing" was getting nearly double those figures (<$0.50 per MH and >50MH/W) if BFL can't delivery that then they never should have promised it.

It would be like ngzhang advertising his board as 400MH.  Technically w/ an optimized enough bitstream it is possible to get 200MH.  Good thing ngzhang has more integrity than that.  He advertised what he could actually delivery.

oh, sorry sir.
i think i made some math mistake at the "POLL: Miners, do you pay for electricity?  " thread, no 25MH/W, i test them again today, and it's about 18-20MH/w as i say on the main thread : "each board has 2 XC6SLX150 -2FGG484I on it, generates a 360MH/s hashing power. 19.5W on wall power consuming."

360MH pre borad achieved long long ago. actually even 380M is running a long time, but the boards get too hot and earn more power. these days i mainly make efforts on the minning software, i'm totally shit at softwares.

 Cheesy

OK, i'm coming to scam you.

i will invent a mining box which is 1.5Gh/s @ <50W, and the price will less than 999$. IN next 6 MONTHs time. and no pre-order, just open for sale~

do you believe me?

 Grin

if you believe, why not just wait and do not order BFL's product. it seems you can not get anything for next few month from BFL.

if you don't believe, why now you trust BFL?

493  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA development board "Icarus" for mining purpose - pre-order started. on: November 30, 2011, 06:16:01 PM
i have not do any speed test between the 2 fpgas, but the signals are routed as diff-pairs, so the speed "i think" may easily reach 800M + . and i will test them when  i have some free time. you know the whole things are all handled by myself... only 1 person. and there is only 1 another person help me @ software. i'm really really very sorry for a lack of fully performance testing.
Please take your time. I'm not in a hurry. For now I'm playing with LX9 from Avnet doing really simple things to understand the limitations of the current technology.

I also noticed the words "bridal tour" in your edited first message of this thread. If you were just married then congratulations! and really take your time!

yeah, just married and take a week in Hongkong , i never go so far, i love that place and especially the Disneyland is so fantastic  even i'm already not a boy.  Grin

dear rph please help me about the  mpbm  miner please... Huh
495  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA development board "Icarus" for mining purpose - pre-order started. on: November 30, 2011, 05:56:45 PM
Couple of questions:
When will be the next batch of Icarus?  I actually have some use for these in a non-bitcoin-mining application (and can use that to justify the expense) - but I would then be able to use them for bitcoin mining whenever they're not in use (free mining hardware Smiley )

For my application, I would need 5 boards.  Will the next batch be larger?

Also, I see that you don't currently support chaining the boards for mining (I'm assuming that is what the P1 and P2 connectors were intended for?).  Is this a hardware 'issue' or a software one?  Will chaining be supported in the future so that I don't need 5 USB Ports to hook these up to a small PC?

Thanks!
Enigma

mining chain mode is not supported because there is still some bugs with the verilog code.  P1 and P2 connector is designed for mining chain mode, or use for connect to some simply stuff.

i think the bugs may solved soon by me or some other people. the verilog code and miner software will release soon. so maybe you can check them. i really not good @ coding. i'm a hardware eng.

Also, I see that you don't currently support chaining the boards for mining (I'm assuming that is what the P1 and P2 connectors were intended for?).
Yeah, I have a similar question that is not directly related to mining. I took a quick look at the schematic and noticed that some pins are routed on the PCB to some connector.

Did you do any speed testing on those interconnects? I'm curious about the possibility of connecting the chips for more complex tasks. I see that they are LX150 not LX150T, so no GTP transceivers on them. Am I right?

i have not do any speed test between the 2 fpgas, but the signals are routed as diff-pairs, so the speed "i think" may easily reach 800M + . and i will test them when  i have some free time. you know the whole things are all handled by myself... only 1 person. and there is only 1 another person help me @ software. i'm really really very sorry for a lack of fully performance testing.

The main reason to buy stuff like BFL is trying to sell is because of the low electric usage. That is the main selling point.

how many free power miners ? Grin
497  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA development board "Icarus" for mining purpose - pre-order started. on: November 30, 2011, 09:03:17 AM
OMFG, i forgot.

all time line is this year : 2011 Cheesy
I still don't get it. I clearly see "@10/5. (fixed)" in your message. Does that mean that the board was already available since May of this year? Or did you just mistype 10 instead of 12 for December of this year? I'm just trying to understand what you intended to write. Maybe you meant: The "Icarus" board without the mining software will be available a week ahead of the full release with the mining software.

i'm really sorry. it's a typing mistake. without mining software, Icarus can ship @ 2011/12/5, and with mining software can ship @ 2011/12/10.
498  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA development board "Icarus" for mining purpose - pre-order started. on: November 30, 2011, 07:34:32 AM
if you don't need the miner, just for a EVO board, delivery will start @  10/5. (fixed)
Is that October 5th of next year? Or May 10th? Or something else?

OMFG, i forgot.

all time line is this year : 2011 Cheesy
499  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA development board "Icarus" for mining purpose - pre-order started. on: November 29, 2011, 03:04:01 PM
When is expected delivery.
Is the $590 (in BTC) price before or after 10% first batch discount?

delivery will start @ 12/10. (approx, maybe earlier or later for 1-2days, 2days @ most)

or

if you don't need the miner, just for a EVO board, delivery will start @  12/5. (fixed)

$590 is before the 10% discount. any first batch buyer who buy again in the future will enjoy a 10% discount as compared to other new buyers.

ADD:it means the 10% discount benefits will active on the next buy, but not this time.

the benefits for the first batch is a gift pack.  Grin

is that clear enough?  Grin
500  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA development board "Icarus" for mining purpose - pre-order started. on: November 29, 2011, 01:49:57 PM

first batch has been pre-ordered in the first day for 50% quantity just now.

and totally pre-ordered now. .....

OMFG,,,,
