481  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul on: November 17, 2021, 11:47:50 AM
I'd like to favour Tommy I really would, but he has looked subpar one a number of his fights, and as I mentioned before the hype around him is because of his name, rather than what hes done in the ring. Though, Tommy's previous performances while they may have been disappointing, they were still against professional boxers, and Paul hasn't proven himself publicly against another boxer yet. MMA, and boxing is completely different, yeah boxing is somewhat incorporated in MMA, but nine out of 10 fights some sort of grappling is used, so I'm still questioning how well Jake would do against a real professional boxer.

He did very well against Woodley and whilst obviously he wasn't a pro boxer Woodley isn't a bad one and has several KOs from punches. I think we could probably ask would Tommy even be a pro boxer if it wasn't for his family connections? I'm not sure if he would as even a mediocre fighter would probably be signed on the Fury name alone. It's like how the children of pro footballers also get shoe-horned in to teams. Some of them certainly deserve it but others probably would have never even made it to an academy if it wasn't for their father's connections. Tommy really needs to win this fight as if he doesn't he's always just going to be the little bro of Tyson riding on his coattails not to mention a laughing stock.

Fury. If Jake wins though then his stock will go up massively and don't be surprised if he ends up fighting someone huge like McGregor or Mayweather next. I can see McGregor actually clamouring for that fight the way his career is going. Tommy really needs to win this comfortably if he wants people to take him seriously and just be the little bro of Tyson.
I don't want to see the Conor fight, that would be just a circus. A Youtuber who loves trolling, and a Conor who has completely deviated from his quick wits, and turned more hostile. I don't think I'd even find the pre fight drama entertaining. Although, with the fans turning on Conor recently, mainly his own doing I must say, knocking out Jake Paul might be a redeeming factor for him.

It would be a circus but I'm sure they'd both make it one worth watching. I wonder if the sort of money is there for McGregor. I'm sure it's a big pay day for Tommy and Jake but they're still not on the same level as Connor or the Mayweather money. Then again, I'm sure Jake would fight McGregor for even 10% of the purse so I guess it could happen. We'll have to see what Connor's next moves are. His stock is going to continue to decline the longer he's out of the ring and even more so if he keeps losing.
482  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul on: November 16, 2021, 04:51:49 PM
Doubts about Jake Paul's abilities will be cleared at last. He will finally fight a real boxer!
Unfortunately, it's hard for me to say which one will win, because I have doubts about the form of Tommy Fury. If he's okay and he's prepared well, then he should have beaten Jake Paul without a hitch.
What would you doubt about Tommy Fury? This guy could fight and definitely could win this fight.

From what I've seen I'd say they're actually quite evenly matched, though I do think I favour Tommy. Jake has continually impressed and surprised me and Tommy has only been average and has a padded record fighting mostly bums so I think this fight is going to be a big test for both. The pressure is going to be on Tommy though as Jake isn't expected to win and Fury's family has practically said they'd disown him, or at the very least his boxing career would be over and I think I agree with them there. Not much point continuing if you can't even beat a YouTuber and that will follow him around for life. I actually think anything other than Jake getting KOd is going to be an L for Tommy. If it goes the distance then that's going to be an embarrassment for Tommy. If Jake even gives him a good fight then it won't look good for him. Regardless, I think it's a win-win for Paul regardless of what happens. If he loses then he'll just say well of course I wasn't meant to win; I'm fighting an undefeated professional boxer and a member of the renowned Fury family and go on to fight whoever will take him. If it's a draw then that's still a massive embarrassment for Fury.

I'm guessing Gerrard will be hoping for Klopp's job once he leaves. As long as he doesn't do shit at Villa he should be alright but I think they're a risky team to take on. They could easily see themselves relegated again this season if they don't turn their form around after 5 losses in a row.
I am thinking Villa has too good squad to end up relegated but it could be tough. Norwich is out for sure and I am thinking Burnley will be dropping this season as well. It will be a big fight to avoid that third relegation spot between Watford, Villa, Leeds and Brendford. Damn now that I written that all 4 of those teams have good squads and are playing good football on their day.

I am purposely avoiding talking about Newcastle since they are terrible at the moment but they will spend big in upcoming transfer window and try to buy their place in Premier League. We shall se if they will be able to click fast enough.

Doesn't matter how 'good' your squad is if they ain't playing right. Could be a tough battle between those you mention, though I think a couple of them will turn their fortunes around eventually.

But, after a quick research I want to ask you, are you sure the predictions have something to do with AI? I can't find that info anywhere.  Undecided

If that's an AI as in a literal machine calculating the results with no human curation whatsoever (so this is not like Superbru's insights picks), then I don't think it's going to be very accurate, as it mostly looks at long term trends, not short term stuff like did someone get injured during training or how is the stadium atmosphere, etc.

If somebody had an AI that was accurate enough they wouldn't be letting others use it haha. They wouldn't need to. I'm sure if will get some games right but it takes the fun out of picking them yourselves.

Bit early, but I would say Newcastle, Norwich, and Watford will be going down this season. Burnley are stubborn bastards, and I expect them to stay up by the skin of their teeth once again. Newcastle probably will take out their wallet, but I think there aren't going to be a lot of good enough players willing to move in January, and make an immediate impact.

I'm sure Newcastle will probably have half a new squad in the upcoming transfer window. It's going to be interesting to see who they get. I'm sure players won't be clamouring to go there straight away so they'll have to build their squad up over a few seasons, consistently climb up the table and attract some big names. It's not like City flipped their fortunes around over night but as bigger players start to go to St James' Park more will likely follow.

Both Welsh and Alexr didnt put in any prediction so I got the wooden spoon although both of them have 0 point
Yeah, I think I did post explaining my reasoning. Hilariousandco can either kick me if he wants others to have a wooden spoon, or consider me your safe guard from the spoon no matter how bad you do! I won't be putting in any more predictions.

Just put your scores in in advance. You can do them for the entire season if you want. Would actually be interesting to see how you did without changing them. You can still win the weekly round and there's going to be a consolation prize for the highest yellow cap so there's still stuff to play for.

Steven Gerrard is back in the Premier League!

they completely devastated my predictions, complete disappointment, I will most likely give up any further fighting on this pool.  Sad

Don't. This is round 11. 27 more rounds to go, that's almost 3 times as many as we've had to change your fortunes. And $50 for the yellow cap is good enough a weekly incentive, but you just never know how things can turn around. As they usually do in these pools over the marathon season.

Yeah, it's silly quitting now. The table can shift quite drastically and we've seen this time and time again. For those who can't even be bothered doing their predictions every week you can input them in for the entire season if you wanted. You can always change them at a later date as well as long as you don't lock them.

Vacations for people who do sport for a living like is the case with football players is always welcome as they are tired from activities and the Premier League is well known for really tight schedules, well we haven't had one so far in this Premier League but December and January are almost here and we will see a lot of them.

I tend to agree though that vacation is more deserved when you have made great results and when you don't then vacations are a bit hard to understand, anyway the International break can offer such commodity to players and coaches alike.

Well it's only a break for those not good enough to get called up for international duty  Grin. Top tier athletes should able to work 5 days a week though. I know people who play 5 a side 5 days a week and they're not getting paid hundreds of thousands.

you are not alone guys... Grin
a total failure in my picks yesterday - of the 5 games yesterday i could only get 1.5 points in the game man united vs. man city. in all other games i went completely empty...

It was definitely a crazy round with some very unexpected results so I wouldn't feel bad for not doing so good. I'm not sure how I managed 9 points to be honest but I got the exact scores on two of the more predictable games so that's six alone right there.

Superbru seems to be down for me, as Leaderboard is only showing me points from this round (8.5), and I see the yellow capper has about 15 so well done for this round, think the draws were tough to figure out as usual, as was the Chelsea draw and Liverpool loss... anyone backing West Ham has my respect.

It's working for me. The yellow cap was MoSala with 14.5. Pretty impressive.

No games until the 20th now. Must be an international break.

Im still shocked how United is playing really bad.City dominated the entire match and could have score 4+ goals in this match easily like Liverpool did. Ole needs to be sacked instantly after another loss,he just lost focus and dosent know what do anymore.

Yeah it would have been if it wasnt for De Gea's saves. Im not sure why wasnt Cavani included in the lineup and pairing Ronaldo with youngster like Greenwood was a dumb idea and its always have been a dumb idea so far. IMO, Van de Beek was quite promising though, Ole or whoever in charge after this should start to put him in the starting lineup from now

De Gea was having a pretty good game up until that blunder for the second goal. Props to Silva for manging to get it in from that angle but De Gea should have had it covered.

~snip
Did you mean us? lol I also currently has 0 points right now

+1
also have 0 points

but, it is not all about results, City won derby in Manchester, cannot say that it was not expected, it was just unexpected for me
Norwich win is totally unexpected, but they had to win sometimes, so this week was theirs

Most people won't get many points from this round. Norwich bagging their first win and Chelsea drawing with Burnley were all unexpected. Tomorrow has some tough games to call as well I think. All of them could be close and upsets in any of them wouldn't surprise me. West Ham could be tricky for Liverpool. Leicester should win against Leeds but I think Leeds are due a turnaround. I don't trust Arsenal to get the win either though I think they should. Everton/Spurs could go any way. Depends what Spurs team turns up.
488  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: November 06, 2021, 08:18:27 AM
Poch was the best, I tell you. Arsenal dreams of Wenger, Spurs dream of Poch, but there's a saying: you always get what you ask for, seldom what you want.
Don't agree about it. Under Poch, Spurs were always choking in big games and I think that changes were needed when he was sacked. Call me Pochettino hater, but I think he was hyped to much in Spurs. Yeah, things haven't improved under Mou or Nuno, but I think biggest part of blame goes to Levy and his greediness
It will be interesting to watch Conte in Spurs, but if Levy won't open his wallet, Conte don't have big chances to achieve something significant. C'mon, Spurs struggling even in Conference League...

I think Poch did make a great team out of Tottenham, in almost a way Simone did with Atletico, I agree with the part that they were choking against the big teams, but they were consistent in the top positions, and I feel it would have been just matter of time before that would be sorted too in a way, what Poch was building was a long term process, and I think they would have been better off should he still be in charge.

Conte might not be a bad idea for Tottenham, but are they willing to spend, and not also expect an immediate turnaround ?

They should never have got rid of Poch. I don't understand how seven+ Premier League teams think they all should be winning the league with their respective teams. I doubt Conte will last any longer than the last couple.

Southampton is winning 1-0 as we approach end of the first half.I have it 2-1 as a correct score but I was not convinced in a Southampton win against Aston Villa but chose to go this route because lately Aston Villa has only gone from bad to worse so at least I have started with the right foot this week so far.
Last 10 minutes to go. Let's hope that we do not get a goal from Villa LOL. I did not have much to do so watching the match. Southamtop had many chances to score more but martinez is really guarding his bars.
Anyway, the real battle will be tomorrow. Utd vs City. In the last match, Utd were outstanding. Can they continue and snitch 3 points from City? I wish they do 😜

Well I'm off to a good start with the correct score on that match. The Manchester derby next up is a tricky one. I kinda want to back the away City win but I'm not sure I trust City to get the job done right now and United might be due a bounce back and maybe both teams will cancel each other out. Hopefully there's a lot of goals. It's the only game I'm interested in today.
489  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: November 02, 2021, 10:16:01 AM
That would have been a pretty disastrous round for me had I not got the correct score on the Leeds game. Had a solitary point before that match. Wasn't hopeful Leeds could get the win either and it was pretty dicey with 3 goals in 5 mins in the second half. Quite a few shock results especially City losing to Palace and Liverpool drawing with Brighton. They're doing pretty well this season. Might be a overlooked team. Was one goal off a correct score on last nights match and if that would have come in it probably wouldn't have been a bad round for me ultimately.

Can't believe Spurs got rid of Nuno already. Yeah, results are not great but his team is also not of the highest quality needed to challenge for the top positions in the league. Their biggest mistake was sacking Poch, he was outperforming almost all the time, at least that was my take on Spurs throughout last couple of seasons.

Ole staying in United is a good news for all United haters. One good result does not mean they are out of the crises or that United found their game. They just played against even worse team and I think it will show in CL and against City.

I can't believe they signed Nuno in the first place. Didn't expect him to last long in this current climate of sacking managers. Spurs should have never got rid of Poch and at least given Mourinho a lot longer. I'm not sure what the board is expecting of Spurs given the strength of the big 5.

Well, lads I totally forgot about this again. You'd swear I have memory loss or something how I continuously forget about this competition. Anyway, I did say you could probably consider my entry a donation Cheesy, and that appears so. I also used a temporary email, and I'll be honest I'm probably not going to go into the effort of remembering that considering I'm already several weeks behind Tongue.

There's still the free $50 bet to play for every week and also probably 0.01 for the overal highest yellow cap.

It's alright, I don't mind picking up the wooden spoons.

I don't think they give you then unless you're active. Hoody Hoo and Leea-1334 got it for the last round with 3 points, though not sure why alexr wasn't awarded it with 2. Maybe it's because at least one of his picks were a default one and thus disqualified him from it.

Honestly, if they haven't sacked him after losing to their biggest rivals by the biggest margin in their history, I doubt he's going to get sacked anytime soon. I'd put money on him lasting the season at least, if you take a look at Gary Neville on the post match discussions, he's trying his hardest not to throw Ole under the bus, and I'm wondering if the Glazers are trying to be cautious about sacking a Manchester United icon, after the back lash they've received recently.

Though, to be honest most fans would probably support him getting the sack despite being a icon.
You have a point here, if they have not sacked him after loosing 5:0 to Liverpool at home, they don't plan to do it anytime soon. This was a perfect opportunity and I don't think any fan would give them problems after performance like that, no matter him being an icon.

It is not just the result, United simply does not have a game to play against top clubs and with the players and budget under Ole disposition that is unforgivable. There is no shame in loosing to LFC, but loosing 5:0 almost without a fight...

I don't see the point in this culture of sacking managers after a bad loss or a run of poor form. I'm not sure what's expected of Ollie/Man U but they're not the best team in the league any more. In fact they're probably not even top 3. Getting into the CL league should be seen as a huge success for them given the quality that's in the league right now and finishing second last year should be good enough for Ollie. Whoever manages them will probably just have the same problems as the last few mangers but I'm sure if a big manger like Zidane showed interest they'd snap him up.
491  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: October 26, 2021, 12:56:04 PM

Probably neither Ronaldo nor Manchester have experienced such a humiliation for a long time, [first half 0-4] Grin

But surprisingly different ... how the hell does this guy manage to make such hardcore predictions and leave at the top in the pool.

p.s. LFC, we are waiting for a photo report from the match!

Man U played like a Sunday league team in the first half. I thought United could bounce back so went with the draw.

was that the most embarrassing performance from Man utd of all times? surely top 5 at least...who's gonna replace Ole after he gets sacked in a few hours? Conte?

It's the players that are at fault. I'm not a fan of sacking managers after a bad run. United have been all over the place under Ollie but they did finish second last season. I'm not sure why clubs think going though managers constantly is somehow magically going to turn their form around. Who else is there left now? Zidane? Giggs? I doubt anyone is going to come in and change stuff up drastically but it's pretty embarrassing for United given the talent they've got on the pitch.

anyway, wth is going with Leeds united? they looked solid last season, showing exciting football and ultimately finishing in the top half of the league table...but this season they look like crap. Oh, and hell of a game at Goodison park, from 2-1 everton to a 4-2 comeback from Watford in just 10 minutes...Only 2 users in our pool predicted a Hornets win  Roll Eyes Big upset

I don't think they've been playing bad, just not good and maybe a bit unlucky. Phillips and Bamford have been out for a fair few games as well. Leeds have got some good youngsters coming through so it's going to be interesting seeing how they effect the team if they're given more time.
492  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: October 22, 2021, 09:20:25 AM
+ maybe 0.01 for the highest overall yellow cap. Or if anyone has any other price breakdowns I'm open to suggestions. I'll probably go with the top 10 though unless most seemingly want the other.
I would drop the prize for highest yellow cap. We already have that 50$ prize for every yellow cap so the highest yellow cap already got something. We always have 1 or 2 double game weeks in PL so you are basically giving extra prize to that person that gets luckiest during double game week.

I would only count the regular ten match rounds and all other larger ones would be disqualified. We could do something else as a prize but I can't think of anything. I kinda would prefer a prize where anyone can win it right down to the last round so everyone still has something to play for even if you're way down at the bottom.

not sure, but would probably go for ten places on a reward board
it is good to have big prize for the winner, but I am more inclined to have more people rewarded

of course, it could be a bias, since I am on position 15, so top10 is reachable, top5 not that easy, but even if upper/lower on the table, would probably be more inclined to have more people rewarded, this should primary be fun, not for earning money

Maybe you will change your mind if you end up in first place by the end?  Grin. I probably will go with the top ten though. I would like to have a huge jackpot of 0.1 but that means the other places suffer and it's always close at the top.

Don't forget we resume EPL tonight! Arsenal get you guys worried or you think they should have no problem banging in a few goals tonight? Hard to see them not win after that morale-boosting last-gasp-Lacazette equaliser huh?

It's a tricky game to predict. Arsenal should win but nobody trusts them right now. Villa have two losses on the bounce after two impressive wins against Everton and Man U.

How shall we split the prize pot up? I got the 0.1 in sponsorship from Sportsbet and I was thinking we either do top 5 or top 10. Obviously more people get a chance to win with 10 but the prizes are diluted. 0.1 as the jackpot would be a nice chunk of change for the winner but only 5 people can win total. I'm open to either:

A)

1 0.1
2 0.05
3 0.02
4 0.01
5 0.005 = 0.185

or

B)

1 0.05
2 0.04
3 0.03
4 0.02
5 0.01
6 0.005
7 0.004
8 0.003
9 0.002
10 0.001 = 0.165

+ maybe 0.01 for the highest overall yellow cap. Or if anyone has any other price breakdowns I'm open to suggestions. I'll probably go with the top 10 though unless most seemingly want the other.

So. Arsenal-Palace. Conundrum. Only won once -- but it was against Spurs, and then came away with arguably tricky draws vs Brentford, Hammers and even Leicester before the break. Surely they deserve better than 14th, but Arsenal also had a good run. I feel like it's a draw on this one, anything goes after 2 weeks pause.

I was so close to going with a draw as I needed to get either that or the correct score and hope nobody got a close result to win the yellow cap.

After very bad performances from Arsenal this season I am surprised that only 2 people in our pool went for draw and only 1 person went for a win. That was a huge upset in the works coming until of course Lacazette scored the equalizer with second last kick of the game. So the game week ends and the table moved very little. I climbed a few spots but still so far away but at least now 4 spots from the exact middle Smiley Bear in mind,,, a few people seem to stop playing so the "real" middle is actually 22.

It looks I was the only one to believe in an Arsenal win yesterday night.I thought lately they have played well but yesterday they could not just keep up with the game.A draw was the ideal result based on the game, anyway I hope I forget this week very soon as it was a real nightmare for me going from second to ninth or tenth don't know.

Most people backed the home win. People might start to lose faith in them now though. Shocked at Man U losing more points. I bet Ronaldo is starting to regret his decision. I really thought he'd turn the team around.
495  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ] The Rematch - JOSHUA vs USYK II (updated thread) on: October 15, 2021, 10:16:44 AM

That's not a close fight, i agree. It was a masterful performnce and complete domination by Usyk and IMO there would be not much difference on the outcome of the second fight. Unlike in the fight against Ruiz where we can say that it was just a lucky punch that turned the fight around in favor of Ruiz. Joshua's confidence will not be here and this time he will be the one that needs a lucky punch to knock Usyk out.
Many experts also thought Joshua has no chance against Ruiz in their second chance but Joshua manage to turn things around, Joshua is dedicated to going back to the gym and see what went wrong and he wants the Fury match to happen, if Joshua turns things around against Ruiz he can do it again against Usyk, he's been in this situation before, he is good in making a comeback, let's see if he can do it again.

I think Usyk is far better and also a much bigger threat than Ruiz was. Anything can happen in boxing though and one punch can change that game as happened in the Ruiz fight. I think if Fury had ten matches against Wilder Wilder would win a couple of them at least. Ruiz didn't take the rematch as seriously as he should have done and paid the price.

Joshua has been known for come back after a devastating defeat and that makes this JOSHUA vs USYK II exciting as when he fought against Ruiz for the second time. Their strategy works to beat Ruiz and if they can execute the same working strategy then he can easily regain back and might have the chance to fight Fury in his next match.

Somehow I don't think Usyk is going to go on a diet of booze and McDonalds for the rematch  Grin. It's going to be interesting to see what game-plan he comes up with. Is he going to try beef up? AJ is already in peak physical shape so I don't he can do much unless he really hits the weights but like I said before don't think it's a good idea.

It's not that AJ is slower than Usyk, it's just he cannot fight a southpaw boxer the same way as he fights an orthodox boxer. The tempo, the feel, the angle, everything is so messed up. He cannot get used to fighting a southpaw boxer in just a few months, so better gamble would be going for in-fight against Usyk.
Maybe not slower, but definitely less agile. I think that's the biggest issue here, and the fact that Joshua seems a little more gun shy since the Andy Ruiz fight. Until Joshua can either counter those problems, or make improvements on those fronts then I can't see him winning the rematch, and it's looking increasingly likely that it'll be a Fury vs Usyk unification fight, which to be honest I think is a good match up. Although, I'd like to see Fury win that, and then move onto Joshua just to prove he's the best of the current heavyweight fighters.

He wasn't gun shy on the Pulev fight and he won via KO if I'm not mistaken.

Pulev is pretty old at 40. He won't be able to tire Usyk out and go in for the kill later on in the fight when he's fatigued. That's pretty much what Usyk did to AJ. If that fight would have gone on another round or maybe even another ten seconds AJ would have gone down.

Seems like a month since there's been any PL action.

it is not like that, PCP Capital Partners (from Abu Dhabi) have minor stake in this takeover (how they will be the owner of Manchester City and Newcastle United, and Barclays as well, it will be up to FA, but they obviously approved the deal) - they will get board member (Amanda from PCP)
Public Investment Fund (PIF) from Saudi Arabia had major stake in this takeover, and they are practically new club owner

third part of the deal is RB media, that will appoint club director
https://www.nufc.co.uk/news/latest-news/pif-pcp-capital-partners-and-rb-sports-media-acquire-newcastle-united-football-club/

Thanks for the correction, apparently PCP tried to buy out Liverpool in 2008 as well (not sure what happened to make the deal fall through though).

But it kind of feels like Amanda Stavely is running the show at Newcastle now, I'm not hearing any news about PIF making club decisions which I think is good news - I think they should just be pumping money and keep themselves away from nitty gritty club details as much as possible with the reputation they have.

I doubt Steve Bruce will last long now. I'd be surprised if he's still there by Christmas. I'm not exactly sure how all the FIFA financial fair play rules work but apparently Newcastle will be able to spend quite a lot of money due to them being a profitable club and not being in any debt. Still don't think it's right that any club can be bought and have money pumped into it like that. I think most teams will be state-owned or by the ultra rich eventually. They can use the clubs to easily promote their other businesses for very cheap or even free much like Mike Ashley did with Sports Direct.

BTW, a lot of people still need to do their picks. Over 20 still.
497  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ] JOSHUA vs USYK on: October 12, 2021, 10:23:25 AM
Joshua can beat Usyk, that is possible but is it likely? As you said, some people said yes and some said no. One thing for sure is that Usyk will not go the same way as Ruiz did when he was focusing more on partying and having fun rather than train heavily with a view to defend his title against Joshua in the re-match.

But still, any experts will think that he is not enough for Fury, Usyk is not underrated anymore but if he wants to be line up to all the great heavyweights in the present generation, he needs to beat Fury and win decisively to Joshua again, many think that Joshua can come back and beat Usyk again just like he did to Andy Ruiz, the rematch is on now and Joshua and Usyk will be back in training, now the table is turned to Joshua he must prove that his career will continue and for Usyk to prove that he is lined up to great heavyweights.

He can beat him. I thought the first fight was closer than most people are making out. Even the bookies still had AJ the favourite after the fight whilst they were waiting for the judges score cards to come in, at least on the bookies I use. AJ is going to have to have a different game plan though. He's going to have to try go for a KO otherwise the same thing will probably happen and he'll get outboxed. AJ has all the stats on his side and is much bigger and in better athletic shape so he needs to use that to his advantage. Maybe he should take Fury up on his offer to train him for free. The rematch clause has been activated now so hopefully they can get the fight organised ASAP so we can see one of them fight Fury. Neither should trouble him too much I don't think.
Dont know it this is really plays a huge difference, but I've read that in Joshua vs Ruiz first fight Joshua weighed unusually a lot, compared to his regular weight. Joshua even said that with extra weight he wanted to be stronger, plus he mentioned that he chased Ruiz instead of cutting corners. As if he was clumsy and used wrong tactics.

During their second fight Joshua was much leaner. If I found correct numbers, he was 12lbs lighter. Is this weight difference significant for a heavyweight ?
It wouldn't be possible to accurately calculate whether x amount of weight makes a difference, because it would completely depend on the circumstances, and the fighter themselves. Some people will perform better without additional weight, and others will prefer to be carrying a bit of timber. Joshua, it probably suits to be somewhat heavy, because he's a big puncher, and not particularly that great at the technical sides of boxing, which usually require a little more finesse.

It depends on what sort of weight it is as well. Fat isn't going to do anything other than weigh you down and make you sluggish. Might give a little extra protection against some body shots at best but Ruiz was out of shape for that rematch and it was definitely mostly fat. The only way extra weight would be an advantage for AJ is if it was muscle, but even still and as I've said before too much muscle isn't always a good idea and that's why bodybuilders usually don't make good fighters. It's best just to fight at closest to the weight your comfortable walking around at.
498  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ]: Fury vs Wilder III - THE TRILOGY IS BACK ON !!! on: October 12, 2021, 10:14:33 AM
What do you think Wilder will do next to try to salvage his career now?

The only way he can fight for the heavyweight titles now is by becoming a mandatory challenger and that can only happen if he wins a couple of comeback fights.

Does Wilder even still have it in him to retain a high level of dedication now after Fury showed him over 3 fights exactly how inept he was when confronted with a superior colossal fighting machine (in Fury).

Wilder will be fine. He's still probably the second best heavyweight now and there's lots of options for him and he'll end up taking anyone Tyson turns down. I'm sure he will fight AJ at some point. A better question would be where does Tyson go after this? The next logical match would be to fight the winner of AJ/Usyk rematch but he might have to face Dillian Whyte as a mandatory but that should be a breeze for Fury. Whyte is going to struggle against his upcoming bout against Wallin. Maybe he should get that out of the way and AJ/Usyk do the same and then Fury fights the winner of those.

The excuses from Wilder is beginning to come out in sports news media hehe. I speculate that we might hear more of this for 2 more months before we hear an annoucement of his retirement. Tyson Fury has shattered Deontay Wilder mentally.

There doesn't seem to be any excuses there, in fact, he's admitting defeat and that he wasn't good enough. Whether he leaves it at that is another matter.

You're a moron ...

Whilst this thread has users who have differing opinions on who played the better game - each with our own interpretation on the game plays and strategies, I'm sure I speak for most if not all users here when I say your attack on me is neither respectful, nore welcome.

What gives you the idea that you speak for others or even all? That's laughable. You only speak for yourself. Most people seem to be saying the same things.

Perhaps you should come back when you have learned some manors

I don't respect anything you say especially the amount of nonsensical shitposting and conversations you've been forcing yourself into regarding things you know nothing about since you joined a signature campaign.

and can discus game play with respect for others.

Discus game? That's a completely different sport and shouldn't be discussed here.

That was a great fight. Exactly what you want from a boxing match. It was like a thriller in some rounds as both fighters looked like they weren't going to make it and you didn't know what was going to happen next. People need to give Wilder his props as a boxer regardless of the shitty excuses he comes out with because like Fury said I'm the best boxer on the planet but Wilder is the second best. There was a couple of times where Fury shook him and he was shaky on his legs lucky to remain vertical but Wilder was still throwing those bombs and a couple of them nearly took Fury out. Both fighters were saved by the bell a couple of times as well. Fight could have gone either way but Fury got the job done in the end. AJ wouldn't win a fight against either of them, though I'd still like to see it.

It's going to be interesting to see if Wilder just accepts defeat or comes out with more excuses. I'd actually like to see another fight between them at some point. I think Fury should go off and fight AJ, Usuk, Whyte, maybe Chisora again and then Wilder again. There's not really anyone that will challenge him like Wilder would.

This was an incredibly epic battle we witnessed.

That was one rubbish fight!

Neither player could manage more than a simple ONE-TWO punch with Wilder just living up to his name swinging wildly with full arm's length swings that were never going to connect and were so badly telegraphed that it was obvious he was going to "stumble" at some point and the game would be over.

Fury likewise never really went in for the knockout choosing to stand back and let Wilder recover enough to keep going only for the players to then give each-other long hugs (which looked more like they were on a date rather than a fight!)  Wilder was exhausted from about the third round, but when he got Fury on the mat early just let him get up and then did nothing more.

Both players need to do more than just a right-left one-two swing - they have no technique, no style and certainly no class.

You're a moron and don't know what you're talking about. Do you think fighters have infinite gas tanks or a reserve tank somewhere that they can magically get extra gas and power from for a Ko? Both were clearly exhausted at certain points and the 'hugging' they do is tactical. It gives them a breather and if you're leaning on someone the other fighter has to use a lot of energy just to keep both of them up. Sure, fans don't want to see it but it's easy to criticise world class fighters sat in your arm-chair at home when you're not the one getting repeatedly punched in the face.

Newcastle's takeover by PCP Capital Partners (aka. Saudi Arabia) has just been completed. If you want my advice, you should take them to draw or win their next few games, esp. Spurs [they should definitely draw at spurs].

Then again, my advice might be complete rubbish as I've only managed to get 6 or so points last round.  Roll Eyes

I think Newcastle cannot do much until January when transfer window for new players is open. For the moment who ever buys them cannot do anything as they can't mix the players right now, only when they will be able to transfer new players so they can improve the quality of the team overall.

However the owner just made double of the amount he bought them Newcastle some years ago with this deal so for him I don't think he will be that sorry that he sold the club.

Them being bought by new owners shouldn't make any difference until they start splashing the cash which like you said can't happen until Janurary. With that being said, their next game is against Spurs who I can't trust to win right now so not sure who to back. Not sure why Newcastle's fans were celebrating like it's a revolution or something either or are they just excited about the potential of the new owners pumping money into the club after the notoriously tight and cheap Mike Ashley? Not sure how much money they can spend right now either given FIFA financial fair play rules. It's a different climate than when City got bought out and essentially bought themselves glory with the billions they spent. Even if that did happen and Newcastle's fortunes turn around where's the glory in that?
