There is a long time between production of the chips and miners available for sale. S9's will make a reasonable stepping stone during that year.
With the price of BTC being lower, and the anticipation of new chip design/releases, the price of the S9 has dropped. They are also more readily available from bitmain. With Canaan releases coming up, and a few speculative machines, I'd expect the price of the S9 to drop further. Still a good time to get some.

I noticed a pretty big drop in the number of members, and hashrate today. Does anyone know, if it was a bunch of smaller miners or a big player?

i took the liberty of creating a facebook page and group for Kano. i hope Kanosan does not mind social media needs to know about this pool https://www.facebook.com/kanopool/mine on!!! You might, or someone else, consider starting a Twitter page too. Twitter has ALOT more going on in the world of Bitcoin. The groups on Facebook, are pretty much littered with the spammers, that get banned here! Hahaha!

I am officially a proud user of Awesome Miner!

Am I the only one that got no notification from both the ckpool status app AND minergain? I'm glad we got a block, and I'm all for surprises but holy shit I need at least one of the two to go off You´re not alone. I didn´t get one from either CKPool, or Minergain. CKPool iOS worked fine for me I´m on Android. Not had any problems before, but got a new phone two days ago. Double checked the setup of CKPool and it says everything is OK. Just have to wait for the next block later today to see what happens. Same here. Android CK Pool, never had an issue before other than just a little delay of up to 15 minutes. But generally I got the Minergain almost immediately and then the ck pool about 10 minutes later. didn't get either on this block...very strange. I use the android version, and I received a notification. However, there was no sound notification. So far I like it. When my power went down yesterday, it notified me of my set "lower limit". I will indeed look into Minergain's app too. Also, I'm very pleased I received a small reward from THE BLOCK while ramping up! I was under the impression, that ramp up was a total loss of time, with all the whining from the cradle section.

Congrats folks! Can't wait to be done ramping, so I can enjoy some dancing too!

Same here, all dead - Antpool not working. Moving to Kano.
Probably the best idea, that is, if you like to actually have answers when something happens pool side. Goodluck!!!

Well, I'm back at ramping up, after a 5hr power loss. I don't know what sucks worse, losing the time or freezing my ass off! No heat on a 20°f Michigan night, is not fun at all. Back to business!

Wow! That is over $100k of BTC at today's prices
Just think about this....That is just a small fraction of what Antpool takes from their members. Kano gives back to the community, and supports the members of this pool. 24/7/365

how much hashrate do i need for kano pool since you get paid every block to be beneficial to moving to this pool? I may be completely wrong but i read it somewhere if you have low hashrate u may not get pay outs on kano.
This is a good question. I've wondered about it as well. I can tell you, there seems to be are alot of smaller miners here. So, something is working in favor for them. Edited upon checking pool stats.

I'm hittin' this ramp....like Evil Kenevil!!! Hopefully when I land, the smoke will clear, and we can get back to business.

Because it would be adding that much more to the total network hash rate instead of convincing that already existing hash to move pools. More hash is more hash, but it would be ideal to not add more to the network to keep the diff lower.
That's it right there...existing miners instead of brand new hash. That makes much more sense for all. I'd expect to see some big movers coming over in the next week. That's the whole idea, behind my signature. There are tons of AntMiner owners, who are preprogrammed with disaster, and they don't know any better. They hear Ant, and they figure it's gotta be the best. A little bit of educational promotion, can go along way. Once they know they can earn more outside of their comfort zone, they'll want to make the switch.

Thank you Kano! This is why I want to support your pool, your support is unrivaled! Hopefully, some more members will participate in some simple promoting, it's literally the least we could do for a great service YOU provide!

My idea would be to target the millions of workers on Antpool that just aren't taking the time to realize there are other options. So many people I'm sure, just leave their rigs on Antpool because it's bitmain. Bitmain pushes the pool on their site, so I don't see why we couldn't take out some ad space somewhere. I'll chip in on the first run at Minergain if he's open to posting it. But imagine if a graphic were posted on some of these difficulty sites where people track it, or on the bitcoin news sites, any exposure is better than none IF and only if your goal is to bring more people in. Get people talking.
Minergain let me know what some ad space would run on your page and we'll work something out. Again, I know this isn't the fix for what some would argue isn't even broken. I'm happy here at Kano or else I wouldn't be here like many of you. I enjoy the community, even though we argue, we don't see eye to eye, and everyone has their own opinion. But what I can suggest is, if I'm helping a newb anywhere on Bitcointalk in some other random thread and have a signature banner etc. pointing them to Kano, where I mine, they may just ask about it. They might finally google PPLNS and realize there are other options. Who knows, but it's worth a shot. I'm simply trying to bring ideas to life. Someone here said we needed graphics.
I also have no qualms with the site, which is why two of the graphics have a strikingly similar color style to them from the kano site. *tip of the hat* It won't look weird if they saw the graphic color scheme first, it would all tie together.
And this is EXACTLY what it's about! Taking back from the corporate monsters, who subliminally slip their pool into everything. When I made my signature back in December, that's what I was promoting for: Help the smaller pools, and the community they represent. If, and when, you hear back from Minergain, please let me know. I too, would like to contribute towards marketing Kano's pool. For now, I'm going to post the sh*t out of your banners on the groups I'm in on social media.

Alright everyone... If you've got hate in your heart...let it out. I am by no means a graphic designer but we've all been saying we need to do SOMETHING to spread the word. I've come up with a few graphics and as of now I'm just wanting input or if you can do it better then by all means, please do it better. I just wanted to do something because my measly hashrate is not doing anything apparently I haven't discovered a single block. So please give me your thoughts and let's think of ways to spread the word. If someone can let me know the specific sizes these images need to be I don't mind creating banners, signatures, whatever you need to spread the Kano word. Without further ado...I will be adding images one by one and editing the post to see which ones actually post and which you have to follow the link for. This is a great start! I've been promoting for a couple of weeks, and everything helps. Great work!

Lots of good points, and counterpoints, since my post this morning. I still think it would be helpful for everyone if we recruited more miners. Though it's starting to seem like the big players here, are much more concerned with keeping smaller players on the bench. Regardless of people buying better equipment, why not add more people? Is it better to keep people out, and get a better payout between less people, OR, add more people, and capture more hash power to find blocks quicker, and increase the frequency of payouts?

Do you think the reason it is taking longer for us to find blocks is because the number of bitcoin transactions are decreasing? Take a look at this chart - https://blockchain.info/charts/n-transactions#Or is this something that is unrelated, and just happens to be dropping at the same time? There was a burst in number of daily transactions in January just around the time we had a burst in finding blocks. It's taking longer, because the network difficulty continues to increase every 13 ish days, but our hashrate has stayed constant for the last little while. in fact, network difficulty is expect to go up 5% tonight overnight (US nite time) There is a possibility for this to change. We, the members of the pool, could take a few minutes a day to do some promotional work. At some point, it's gonna help.

Quick question, is it normal for one of my miners to have a higher difficulty? It's not running much faster than the other.
