481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can anyone post an exhaustive list of bad things Bitcoin is doing to this world? on: November 08, 2013, 03:48:29 PM
The use of electrical power to secure the network, and an increase in doing so fueled by the greed of miners (I'm one of them).  The calculations completed have no intrinsic value - they're just a means to the end of securing the network.  As time goes on, if bitcoin continues to succeed, power consumption will continue increasing.

Except that for many miners (like me), power usage hit a peak and is now on the way down even with increasing GH as I replace older less efficient miners with ASICS.

Grossly disproportionate rewards to a small community of self selecting early adopters.

So in this case 'self selecting' would not be a bad thing.

485  Other / Politics & Society / Re: TdH Traced 1000 Webcam Child Sex Tourists with a digital child on: November 06, 2013, 03:52:22 AM
Gee that's horrible.
I'm concerned about the abuse of digital characters by other digital characters.  All of the characters in Shrek are digital and some are horribly abused.  What are we going to do about that?  Like they get abused over and over - every time the movie is played or replayed.
well, thanks for contributing such a sensible comment to this thread, that was quite distracting. have you even watched the vid?  Roll Eyes
a little bit more empathy instead of sarcasm regarding this subject wouldn't have been wrong...

i don't know if the whole avaaz petition stuff will help this in any way,
but still it's a good attempt to fight human sex slavery and i felt like sharing it.
ARE YOU NUTS?
A person logs on to some chatroom with an avatar.  That's a virtual person.  A cop logs on to a chatroom with an avatar.  (in this case, of a certain age).  That's a virtual person.  There is no difference between this and what I described.

Now let me guess - you'd ban the movie and book Lolita, right?  Or track the people that rented or bought them?

LOL...

i really don't get your perspective here.  Huh

So as soon as a person logs on some chatroom he's a virtual person and therefore every social rule from the real life is cancelled and he can happily wank away in front of a ten year old child?
It's not like these people purposely looked for a photorealistic 3d-model of a child as an avatar but assumed the child was real in the first place.

Should the virtual world grow along with some basic social and ethical rules or should it present a place free of any restrictions even if it involves real children in front of webcams?

and no i would neither ban the Lolita movies nor the book. I've seen both movies and have read the book and it widened my awareness.
Especially the book gives a very good insight of the bipolar life of a person with this complex.
Pedophilia though has nothing to do with this story.

If you buy pot from an undercover cop, you bought pot.

If you do something ONLINE with someone posing as an underage person you are still NOT doing something with an underage person, you are doing that activity with an adult.  It certainly shows intent, but at that point it is a thought crime.

What is the condition, any bad scratches on the screen or messed up keys?

I have a friend that needs a cheap laptop so I'll pass this along to him. If he is not interested then I am, I'm just a little short on BTC right now.

It is in good condition no major scratches, near perfect keys.  The keyboard is quite small so that is a minus.  I have a gateway nav50 in another thread for $99 as well.

491  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A proposal: Forget about mBTC and switch directly to Satoshis on: November 03, 2013, 04:13:21 AM
How many Satoshis = $1

500k satoshis are $1 with bitcoin at $200  Grin

Which makes Satoshis silly at this point.  Someday maybe but not now.

A mBTC is 20 cents, $1 = 5 mBTC so right now very useful for most transactions I deal with.  I have my daily spender wallet set in mBTC most of the time now.
492  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CampBX - Significant Differences in Operations since my last transfer to them. on: November 03, 2013, 01:40:26 AM
Use ACH instead if you can.
493  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CampBx / Dwolla question on: November 03, 2013, 01:39:13 AM
I had a similar problem, contacted CampBX and they told me to do an ACH transfer instead.   I did that and it was done I the same two days as Dwolla would have taken.  The only difference is the $2 fee.

Get over Dwolla and use CampBX ACH directly as Dwolla does not want our business.
494  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How many days, months or years did it take to receive your order from BFL? on: November 02, 2013, 02:54:47 PM
Funny enough almost exactly two weeks.  (plus a year)

My current setup:

Those two should not have to live together.   The Bitfury's have to put up with all of the heat and noise from their loud neighbor who steals all of the electricity.

Hi,
I ordered a Single 50Ghs in April, paid with paypal
Still not shipped, I can try to ask for refund with Paypal? Or is it too late? I'm from UE
any chance of success now?
Thanks

You should try harder, call paypal if you need to..
At 7 months that might work. At 13 probably not.
