How about  GekkoScience =                               GekkoScience (front)
                    The
                    Art                               or              I've been

             Self Reliance                                      SideHacked!    (back)

We don't have to stop at just one design.  I don't know why more manufacturers don't promote shirts and such.  I love the idea.

Edit:  So we can't buy in Btc?  Who uses cash anymore?
502  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 21e6, LLC - Secretive ASIC manufacturer that raised $5 million on: May 14, 2015, 12:06:58 AM
Very cool.  The veil of the Dark Side has risen.  Maybe this is where SFARDS contest idea was getting at.  I don't know about placing Asics in everyday devices though.  Did I read it right, 75% of profit would go to 21 inc. being hardcoded in the device?
These my young Padawan's are wonderous times for the community.  Hope they don't go the whole KNC or BitFury route.  Cool
Next months are interesting to say the least.

So Dogie did a review of one of  their scrypt miners, does that mean they have shipped product to customers?  And are they happy with the equipment?
504  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: SFARDS: “Speaking IMHO”- The Best Miner is…contest, 1 BTC for winner! on: May 12, 2015, 06:17:07 PM
The human work output in agricolture is about 0.074 kw. I want a miner that can convert human work into hashing. That could be controversial, but a great deal for that zones who have a difficoult access to energy but a lot of manpower. In cold zones, you can use the heat too.

Or you can just convert in hashing the power wasted at your local gym...

Less fat, more hashing!

Can anyone tell me if a 750w psu would be able to run an s2 with just 5 or 6 hashing boards? The reason I ask is because I recently bought one off ebay. It ran fine for ~ a week. Yesterday the psu caught fire, so I took it out and am now waiting on a new one. I have a 750 running an s3 and I'm just trying to maximize my potential. Any input is appreciated.

Check the data on the PSU.
Make sure the 12v rails have enough 12v capacity.
Just because a PSU says 750W does not mean the 12v rails will provide a full 750W.
The newer ones do list them as such but most older ones is a "total of all" the various voltages...
Check out Server PSUs on ebay for replacements rather than desktop PSUs.

If you have a bunch of 12V miners running on PSUs PM me and I will get you some info.

MM

The psu I have is a Corsair CXM Series CX750. On the +12v rail it is 62 amp 744 watts. I'm just wondering if it will run 5 or 6 of the boards until my new supply comes in, which according to ebay won't be for about a week and a half. I guess maybe I should have asked what the wattage of each board is?

An S2 PSU is 1100W correct?

10-blades = 110W x6 blades = 660W

So yes and just run it on 5 blades if it does not.
They all come with 1050w Gold psu's and typical draw is 1060w total at wall.  These psu's are under rated so they do fine maintaing this draw.  10 blades + controller + fans + lcd.  Figure 90w+ per each of the 10 cards.

The interest of Bitcoin/Crypto mining as a hobby or business stems from the differences of mining equipment.
The biggest hurdle to overcome is "What do I do with my old miners?"  Yes, you could sell them but I'm often reluctant to let them go.
What if there was such a design that it would allow us to integrate them into whatever case design and of any manufacturer.
What if there was a way to market it as a "Bitcoin Community Savior to Vaporware"

Allowing us to keep the communities failures alive by integration.

Or integrate it into this to make us all Happy!  Battery powered of course! Grin

- Keep it small and compact.
- Make it chainable to attatch to others without a case and a need for a controller for each.
- Include ultra-cool leds. (my personal favorite).
- Allow for custom cooling.
- Wifi
- Usb or molex connections for power.

507  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Lepa 1600 - Cheap! on: May 10, 2015, 04:10:07 PM
This is so tempting, but then I read some of the reviews on amazon and it didn't leave me a warm and fuzzy, but still sounds like a great deal.
I'll agree with tarzan2 they are good psu's but unlike better manufacturers if you hook them up wrong or over exceed power requirements they can shut down.  I currently have one and was able to resurrect mine.  Again for $125 that's a steal for a solid 1600w psu.
508  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Terraminers sold cheap, need someone to confirm delivery first on: May 10, 2015, 04:01:52 PM
So they have a huge supply of them unused and they just have been keeping inventory on them?  Really?  May have been news last year but this year I find it hard to believe.  Along with them being bankrupt now deems this story unfeasible.
509  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S2 upgrade kit? EDIT: New info 3/11 on: May 10, 2015, 03:37:58 PM
Bitmain you may want to rethink your strategy for releasing information sooner than your ready to release such a product.  From a customer service standpoint this looks real bad since this is the second time you have done this for the same product.  Get your ducks in a row and this week give us some info.  Good or bad we need to know if you've dumped the program or fine tuning it for deployment.  Believe me it will be refreshing to see new products from other suppliers soon so we don't have to rely on your theory "We're the only ones shipping so we can do what we want" campaign.
510  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Anyone used of hear of minerslab.com? on: May 10, 2015, 05:24:45 AM
Wow, 20T machine with 2 boards from the look.  They're offering 15 year warranties on the scrypt equipment.  Such a deal.  It looks like you can buy Bitcoin and Litecoin right from their site, how cool.   Shocked  ( The previous was me holding my stomach while I LOL'd )  Don't give them a second thought.
511  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: May 10, 2015, 01:24:38 AM
Howdy!

I have 2 S4's that all of a sudden stopped mining. They are stock settings, no voltage change and I have tried a few different firmware's and they all show the same behavior. When I look at the Miner Status tab, all the values are blank.

The display on the front shows the correct IP. I have tried a few different pools, but no change.

Any suggestions?
Did you just happen to get your 2nd miner recently? If so disconnect one miner and see if it runs by itself without stopping.

I think it's odd for two to go exactly at same time.  I would agree try running one.   Maybe try another electric outlet on different circuit.  Unless you are just really having bad luck and have to give out at same time.

After that I would try to load firmware to see if it changes anything, make sure to keep settings.  (there is always risks with updating firmware).  But that would help rule out software.
Push in the reset button and hold for a few seconds.  This is typical for my S2's when I'm changing pools often.  Check to see if your at the current firmware.  When you reset if you have a static ip you'll need to go back and change it.  If your not running static ip's you should be.
Set your ip outside your dhcp range ex. 192.168.1.200

Oh ok! Looking to find a way to exaust my heat from miners. The temps is getting high with the summer coming. My miners are in libingroom so I need a quiet setup if possible.  Tongue

Will keep searching

Sadly I'm doing the same thing.  I have learned more about fan's then i care to.

Here should be over 15K CFM when on high together.

Looking twords miners:

I am still looking at better exhaust methods.
Is there a fan in your gable vent?  If not it's more than enough due to the vacuum to buy a gable fan.  Could easily drop temps by 10 degrees.  Your roof inside isn't insulated, I bet it gets quite warm when your head is at that level.

If I have time this weekend I will give it a shot.  They're just gathering dust right now anyways.
515  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer s3 problems on: May 08, 2015, 05:32:25 AM
It well could be the psu.  If he runs too much on one rail it could overheat and shutdown causing it to lose connection to the pool, thus causing the beeps.  This happened to me.  Can you answer some of the questions these good folks are trying to help you with?  Then we can help you.
516  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF3301 sample chip is available [Updated 04/05/15] on: May 08, 2015, 05:24:10 AM
We clearly don't need a winner. I wonder though if the price of Bitcoin won't keep ALL the ASIC vendors in check. By that I mean a  low BTC/USD price keeps them from trying to kill each other. A high BTC price may encourage a "winner take all" strategy, which may not benefit any miner long term (past a couple of difficulty adjustments).

A little competition is probably good, but not a WAR

Don't kid yourself. The price war is not the issue it is the efficient and hashrate volume that is the battle ground.

The price of these chips and units for the small and ever shrinking home market is not what will drive the end of these companies. Guy at Spondoolies already laid it out numerous times on what will kill these wannabes competing with the those with a game plan, real engineering teams and the money.

The battle for $ per gh/s is silly and meaningless given the volume of hashpower that might come online before 2016. The nuclear weapons are ready to be unleashed. This will leave only 2 or 3 main superpowers.

---

As for wanting big centralized systems based on 2 or 3 companies. NO FUCKING WAY!

Here is how we stop it.

1. Open source ASIC chip.
2. Open source low cost miner design.
3. Low cost miners in every hand.
4. P2Pool with those miners.

If you can ship more Terahash Petahash in a small, quiet, unobtrusive low cost device to millions that is the only way to decentralize things and get those miners on a P2Pool. Counting on Avalon or Bitmain or SFards as your chip / miner supplier saviour is like asking the fox to watch the hen house.

Insanity. No one learned a lesson from KnC or Bitfury did they? If you have a chip and it makes economic sense to mine massively for your benefit as company you will do it.

Be realistic this won't happen so the best we can hope for is a few more months maybe a year of projects like Gekkoscience or J4bberwock's effort.
The companies only need us to support they're own mining operations.  Once they're self sufficient well invested goodbye home mining.  The next year will definitely be the deciding factor in which way this goes.  If Btc falls below certain levels it could bring these companies to closing or downsizing as there investors fall back.  What a wonderful world it would be for open source asic designs and a strong company to do battle supplying decentralized Super miners to the world for little profit.  Greed consumes all of us at some point.
517  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Gauging interest. Custom Made S4/S4+ water block on: May 08, 2015, 05:09:31 AM
Sounds cool, eventually all home miners should take this route but it sounds pricey for the waterblock.  Is it just novelty?

Since right now the main thing holding back the S4/S4+ is overheating issues, and you can save 100w by pulling those fans, I am thinking that over all its going to allow more stable overclock/clocking of the units, and allow longer life of the chips as running at 65+ is rough on even good chips.
You still have to power the pump and fans on the cooler though, so power isn't what you're saving on.

Google works great.... try it ... here's the manual: https://bitmaintech.com/files/download/Antminer%20S3%20Manual_EN_2014.7.16.pdf
Several posts on the forums about this just search.
It's related to overheating above 80C or it's just loosing connection to the pool.  If it's overclocked bring it down to stock speed.  What's your ambient temp where you have it located?
520  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF3301 sample chip is available [Updated 04/05/15] on: May 08, 2015, 01:22:53 AM

yeah war is for the winners.  I am pretty sure bitmaintech would win against  Sfards in a price war.

Only for the best equipped army.

Hmm. My can do 0.51 Wt/Gh (freq. 400, 1.3 Th). At acceptable noise level.

May be it is not so "dead quiet" like Avalon 4.1, but S5 a) cheaper, b) easier in deploying.

Also, S5 is better in price/Gh if I am not mistaken. But you said it already.  Wink

The avalon 4.1 becomes really easy to setup.
After the first one is setup on a rasp pi 12 more will just plug n play. Running very stable.
Plus you can stack them 2 or  3 high as the pcie's are on the back end.

If your s-5 is doing .51 at freq 400 1.3th  you did a fan mod.
BTW they can be fan modded and noise level is okay at 1.3th  somewhere I have a thread on it.

But price wise 800gh for 2.3 btc =   66 cents a gh
vs 1150gh  for               1.66 btc = 33 cents a gh

Which is what I said.  Believe it or not   all this is not off topic.

those 2 numbers   66 cents a gh vs 33 cents a gh  are my pricing guide for this new gear.

Too close to 66 cents and it is over priced.  Too close to 33 cents and price war with bitmaintech.

Should be very interesting to see what they do.

WAR is sometimes VERY good
Do we really want a winner for the mining companies?  Look how the price battle went with SP and Bitmain, we definitely benefited.  Once SP was out of the picture Bitmain got greedy.  Fierce competition all the time is what we miners need, not a winner.
