Digibyte has been well marketed compared to other coins, Jared is a marketing superstar in the crypto world but the development is not able to back up the marketing. People have caught onto this fact.

Do you really think so? Seriously?

Hardly. Anything but!

------------

And I agree with ghostycc in that it’s deliberate on Jared’s part.

I have to agree with you on the marketing superstar Smiley But he decided to not marketize DGB on purpose.
It is way better to have a backend work and developpment than marketer without any clue of what to do to upgrade his coin.

I agree with Telenong too, I think.

jared has run wrong marketing strategy

Wrong in that it hasn’t existed at all? Right?

------------

But I’m thinking we’re all talking about the same thing.

More than marketing, my criticism in the past has been centered mainly on a lack of communication in general (especially here on BCT) on the part of the DEV team, and my impression is that it’s a conscious choice. Over the years I’ve come to the conclusion that the Dev community thinks the larger community of shareholders should take care of itself, even to the point that much of the technical comes in the form of “trickle down”. And with regards to marketing, forget it - that's your job [devs say to community]*. And I think I agree.

The upside to all of this is that we, the general community of shareholders, are completely capable of taking care of ourselves.

There are three main ingredients to a successful coin: 1) a real crypto and Dev team; 2) real value in the marketplace; 3) a flourishing and active community.

Without one, the other two don’t exist.

It’s time for the community to metaphorically grow up, myself included, and to start doing its part.

I think instead of asking, we'd be well advised to start producing!

* Unless it's finance or tech related, which Jared has done an outstanding job with - public appearances, partner negotiations, etc.

Can anyone tell me how long it takes a *new* install to sync with v6.14.2?

Do we have a bootstrap? Or is it not necessary?

Took me 3-4 hours for a full reindex. Last time I loaded the blockchain  from a bootstrap.dat it took longer than a 6.14.2 resync did.

Thanks!

I for sure will be holding my coins. I don't see any sense in dumping for chump change.

I think it has potential to head up but even if it doesn't these prices aren't enough money for me to think of dumping my coins.

I agree. It's completely unthinkable to me.

I'd like to congratulate DigiByte by quoting him on what this actually means for DGB (the highlighting is mine):

If we get activated we can prove the true decentralized power of multialgo mining to help prevent a single party from centralizing a blockchain through mining.

You can mine DigiByte on one of five separate mining algorithms. Each algo averages out to mine 20% of new blocks. This allows for much greater decentralization than other blockchains. In order for an attacker to hardfork DigiByte the attacker would need to control 93% of the hash rate on 1 algo, and 51% of the other 4 making DigiByte much more secure against PoW attacks than other blockchains.

Killer job. We continue moving forward, always improving on the original idea and making it better.

Pop Quiz:

   · Is there any cryptocurrency that better guarantees security, decentralization and fastest transaction speed all at the same time?
   · Is there any cryptocurrency that is better positioned to take those rock solid fundamentals forward into the future?
   · Is DigiByte simply the best?

Sellers at these levels beware. That 1000:1 DGB:BTC ratio is a lot higher than where we are now and there is no fundamental justification for current prices. Look out above, and don't say you weren't warned.

Is DGB a Myriad Fork?   Huh Huh Huh

DGB is everything Myriad was meant to be, but was never able to become. DGB continues to develop and evolve. XMY is fast becoming a relic of the past (sad to say). There is no comparison between the two other than they are both multi-algos (again, that much XMY has going for it, but they've got to get things moving fast or else, well, as I said, it'll become a relic).

Those are just the facts.

Something like what we'll soon be saying about LTC and BTC . . . (thanks mainly to SegWit).

T-minus 10 hours to activation.

Let's see if this really means what we've been told and if anyone stands up to clap.
508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Diamond (DMD) Evolution v 2.0 | Hybrid Security | 25% PoS on: April 27, 2017, 08:39:34 PM
My last couple of important questions for now: 1) will the financial advantages of the MN's be much greater than just staking the same amount (I know it depends on the number of MN's, but generally speaking)?

yes even if 50% of total coins are active at MN and 25% of total coins are active at POS the MN will earn per 10000 DMD better
that 50% of total coins is a very ambitious goal and if less are in MN then the income per MN is even better
we did analyse the seesaw mechanics of pivx and our decision to not use it because the normal competition reward mechanics more then enough make sure there will always be MN and always be people compete to find POS blocks the rewards just crazy increase if not enough people take part that for sure DMD will find there way to where they needed
to keep up the POS part of hybrid security or to keep the MN in a very healthy range of nodes

Quote
2) What is the main benefit that MN's give to DMD (network security? funding? ownership incentives?)?

there is 4 main points

first they are 24/7 fullnodes with static IP (or known onion hidden service name) that means they build the backbone of block propagation and make find stable peers super easy

second they provide a peer to peer masternode network that enable to run masternode powered services
mixTX and quickTX are just the basic two more will follow

third they will become the backend part of the next generation of masternode powered light wallets
in that area DMD will try to adapt and launch the very ambitious dash evolution project towards the brand design of DMD
we not aim to compete in dash strong points against them but we utilize their technology adapted to our brand design to power our niche services

and fourth is keep DMD Diamonds scarce and a good storage of wealth solution with a income aspect the relative high requirement to run a DMD MN make people think twice before sell a part of their MN coins and lose access to the MN income stream. this added with POS which also remove coins from exchanges keep DMDs a hard time to gather and fullfil the task gather 10000 to start a masternode will be a real quest for glory. and one of the dash evolution parts we will add and which is powered by  masternode network will be a lightwallet savings option which basically means blopckchaintech secured u borrow coins to a shared masternode and get a part of the income (all the dash evolution based mechanics wont be part of initial release in summer)

I'm going to be keeping a very close eye on this.

 Cool

Would I be able to double my chances with twice as much DMD in the same address? Let's say I have 1000 DMD. Would it be better to have it all in the same address, or split into 2 different addresses? Which would be the most profitable? And to what point would it be profitable to continue putting all your DMD into the same address?

same behavior in dmd v2 and dmd v3
automated split/merge work more efficient if coins are in one address
but beside that each transaction compete for itself
so the more transactions u have size 300-500 the better
and split merge mechanics will try get ur coins into that size by itself
it will even eat up MN reward dust and combine them into proper size if the wallet is configured that rewards are send to the POS address
(at DMD v2 its smaller there coin pile size is between 10-180 DMD and split merge mechanics more focused on coin age then coin size)

Nicely explained and easily understood. My last couple of important questions for now: 1) will the financial advantages of the MN's be much greater than just staking the same amount (I know it depends on the number of MN's, but generally speaking)? 2) What is the main benefit that MN's give to DMD (network security? funding? ownership incentives?)?

What is the optimized pile size for staking?

same as DMDv2 DMDv3 will take care about split and merge by itself
no time consuming micromanagement with coincontrol needed

if ya ask a goal of coins where run wallet in 24/7 POS mode make sense at DMDv3 wallet
then i would say 300-500 DMD this should give ya enough POS "miningpower" to find a block every few days

DigiByte "locked-in" last Friday with the percentage signalling in the high 80's, low 90's, depending on the time frame. Will be the first soft-forked SegWit activation in ~48 hours.  Grin

False. GRS locked-in and activated 3 months ago with signalling percentage of 100%. GRS was the first soft-forked Segwit activated coin.

Sorry about that. I mistakenly thought that GRS was a hard-fork.

Please forgive me.

@ tenletters, jackielove4u, et. al.,

Great job sharing all the details and negotiations of the project on this forum. I’ve not only enjoyed following along, I’ve learnt things as well. While some argue that this type of forum isn’t the appropriate place, I completely disagree. Crypto has taken open source to the extreme in the sense that even ordinary shareholders play an active role, and they need to be included as much as possible, just as you have here. Slack is great for the more technical of the technical (and github even more so), but we shouldn’t think that the average shareholder is a complete “dummy” either. Everyone should have easy access to all pertinent information – then, whether they read it or not, of course, is their rightful choice as well. Wink

You’ve done a great job in my opinion by conducting the negotiations and reaching agreements in a public manner. It’s example that I think should be followed.

Congratulations, and looking forward to following further developments as well.

Very cool, exciting stuff.  Cool

Stepping back and taking a look at price from a longer term point of view . . .

And this is what it looks like in USD terms:

I tried to learn linux so i could mine digibyte Without microsoft spying on me, It's like asking my dog driving me home from the pub when i am drunk,it is no use i am to old and stupid

https://www.ubuntu.com/download

Go for it! If I can do it, you can too!

It's easier than Windows . . . well almost . . . but what you can say without hesitation is that the control and safety you get are well worth the half dozen more clicks you have to make.

I still use Windows, out of habit, and for compatibility issues, but I doubt I'll ever have to pay for another OS. That's how good I think Linux has become and how much better it will always be. The future is Open Source. In everything. It's an example of a very long "learning curve" that's beginning to turn exponential.

In any event, read up on it. You can install inside Windows, alongside Windows, as a standalone, make startup CD's and USB's (which are the safest way, by the way, to manage long term "cold storage" wallets, but probably not worth it since it's quite difficult and the alongside Windows is practically just as safe, and much easier to use), etc. It's easy, fun and rewarding - even when you have to use the command line!

You'll end up asking yourself why it took you so long.  Wink

518  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★DigiByte|极特币★★[DGB]✔ DigiSync v6.14.2 - DigiSpeed - Segwit -DiguSign on: April 25, 2017, 09:18:28 PM
I am surprised that this coin does not move much after the segwit news was announced. Instead, the price dropped from above 100 satoshi back to less than 90 satoshi.
Will there be any news released for this coin in May? It seems someone has placed huge sell walls to prevent this coin from moving upwards.

The pullback looks like accumulation to me, but I could be wrong. Time will tell.

More than any specific sell walls, I see a very even stack on the sell side with millions (plural) offered at just about every price, but without that even getting out of hand. Remember, there are over 8 billion (with a "b") in circulation, and the total amount offered up to 135 SAT on Poloniex is only around 500 million, which is only 6.25% of the total in circulation. 500 million is a lot, but relatively speaking it's not.

This is another aspect of DigiByte that will make it great - the greater the float, the greater the liquidity, the more difficult it is to manipulate, and thusly is a safer investment because, this time with respect to pricing, once again, it depends on a much wider "distributed" consensus than the majority of the competition does with their "price discovery".
519  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★DigiByte|极特币★★[DGB]✔ DigiSync v6.14.2 - DigiSpeed - Segwit -DiguSign on: April 25, 2017, 08:41:30 AM

Groestl mining is rockin'. One of many of DigiByte's examples of true decentralization: GPU mining that pays off big!!!

https://www.miners-pool.eu/

And all the while still making room for everyone else, ASIC included.  Wink

With DigiByte we get a safer network while including all types of miners on a relatively level playing field.

Now that's what I call having the best of both worlds!

Nobody else comes close to doing what DigiByte does!

And this ain't hype. They're simply the facts!
 Cool

Segwit is already running in the latest version or is it still voting?

SegWit locked-in last Friday (currently in THRESHOLD_LOCKED_IN). Will activate this Friday (in approx. 3 days).

We just released v6.14.2 which fixes the wallet loading delay where a wallet might take 20+ minutes to open (should open within a minute or two):

Download here:

https://github.com/digibyte/digibyte/releases/tag/v6.14.2

Current Segwit activation can be tracked here: https://segwit.digiexplorer.info/

The soft fork progresses through 4 phases:
    THRESHOLD_DEFINED,
    THRESHOLD_STARTED,
    THRESHOLD_LOCKED_IN,
    THRESHOLD_ACTIVE,
    THRESHOLD_FAILED,

Earliest we might see locked in is about 12 days from now.

Threshold = 70%
Period = 1 week

(1 week for Started, 1 week for Locked In & 1 week for active.. this is 2 weeks for each for LTC & BTC)

If you haven't updated yet, it would be a good time to do so.
