521  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would it be enough to buy 100 dollars worth of Bitcoin every month? on: December 09, 2023, 10:03:13 AM
Enough is something subjective, as $100 per month might not be an extravagant amount in western countries but is in the Third World. I've seen other users start with as little as $30 per month; if you can afford to spend $100 every month, then I don't see why not; it's actually a decent amount to get you started. That's $1.200 per year, which isn't too bad; it all depends on what you're aiming for and your available income, and who knows, it might encourage further budgeting and saving, and you might opt to spend more in the future. You need to specify your needs; you're asking if it's enough—for what exactly? To become wealthy? Certainly not, to gain some extra pocket money and build a small savings fund? Probably yes.

Certainly, the early days where you could yield massive results with relatively small amounts of money have passed, but it's still not too late to start acquiring Bitcoin; the prices have already risen close to $45.000. Who knows what the future holds? In the upcoming year or two, we could possibly surpass the current ATH.
522  Economy / Economics / Re: Is energy prices about to shoot up? on: December 09, 2023, 08:42:57 AM
They are not trying to suggest it, they already decided in their last meeting to cut the supply by a large amount (2.2 million barrels per day) but the supply cut will start next year and they will continue supplying like before until then (that should be about a month or two).
If nothing changes, this cut would probably bring price up closer to $90 again, but I don't think it can do much more than that.
That's absolute bollocks; there's pure manipulation of oil prices. There's a great demand for oil; if the supply is limited by this much, it'll send fuel prices to the moon once again. They're still high; imagine what will happen when the supply cut takes place. I believe that after the Ukraine-Russian war and the sanctions against Russia, we're doomed to a vicious circle of higher fuel and energy prices that will never recover ever again. Only the US is profiting from this war, as it's currently our main supplier for oil and especially CNG.

I was hoping that fuel prices would eventually recover, at least to a reasonable extent. The average petrol price here is €1.85 per liter; that is still insanely expensive and was a price that we'd see towards the end of the tourist season; now it has become the norm, and no one seems to be complaining about it. On the contrary, we seem to be thankful for not paying €2 per liter.
523  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you regret also for ever knowing about gambling? on: December 09, 2023, 06:34:26 AM
No, not really. As long as you treat it like a game and encourage being responsible with your money, meaning not to blow everything at gambling by getting too emotional at your losses, then I don't see a solid reason to regret it. As user @alastantiger mentioned already, no one forced your friend to be involved in gambling in the first place, let alone continue after observing that it was hurting him, both mentally and financially. You can always stop if it's hurting you; it's supposed to be an entertaining activity, not a burden that wrecks you.

If it's causing issues in your real life, then you should quit, and if you're unable to do it yourself, you need to seek help. Addictions are a bitch, and it's not shameful to ask for assistance. The majority of us have probably been in a similar position once in our lifetime, not necessarily regarding gambling.
524  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Finally I did it (I am happy to join). on: December 08, 2023, 11:35:59 PM
It feels nice to be appreciated in your post, so thank you in a way. It took me a while to remember who you were, and I had to briefly go back to your original thread. I'm glad that you actually went ahead and acquired your first Bitcoin, and it's a decent purchase as well, at approximately $1,500. Nice job! It feels good to see you delighted, and I'm hoping this is only the beginning, and eventually you'll end up accumulating more. You can only benefit from this story.

Good luck on your Bitcoin endeavours!
525  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are slots hard to understand on purpose? on: December 08, 2023, 10:05:08 PM
If anyone has gotten used to gambling through crypto casinos, it's likely that they've become accustomed to games like dice. With dice everything is crystal clear: You know your winning odds and how much you are going to win if you roll within your target.
However with slots, you never know your win chance. You don't know what increasing your wager or coins does to winning chances and it's generally all so opaque.

Instead of winning chances there's terms like volatility and RTP,  which make little sense unless to the individual gambler. Honestly dice was complicated enough, slots are just too much. Makes me think that it could be on purpose. Players of slots seem to be unlikely to look into these details due to how complicated it is.

Has that been your experience too?
Recently, there was a thread regarding slots, and quite a few other users felt that they weren't worth it. Personally, I agree with what you've stated, and I believe it's due to the nature of the game that doesn't leave you with much wiggle room. Certainly, that's in favor of the casinos and not the user, as you're not able to choose your odds nor do you have any options.

Slots are an old-fashioned game that was extremely popular in physical casinos. Their philosophy is pretty straightforward; you just pull down the lever (or click a button) and that's it. Personally, I don't think they're worth it, and I avoid them like a plague.
526  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What will you say within your limits to encourage responsible gambling? on: December 08, 2023, 01:00:38 PM
a casino where staff actively drive winning gamblers away. Madness, right? What if this kind of behavior, which seems crazy, is actually part of a plan? Casinos do best when people win and lose at the same time. Too many wins could scare off the majority of losers, and lets face it, most gamblers lose.

Now, as if the owner, I'd certainly raise an eyebrow at such tactics. But if these acts subtly encourage people who are more likely to lose to stay longer, might this not be a smart, if unusual, move? Staff who know how the casino works might be playing a complicated psychological game where they look crazy but are actually following a deeper plan.

As you might expect, this goes against how casinos usually work. But in a world where thinking outside the box is often praised, could this really be anything but another way of coming up with new ideas?
The majority of people lose in casinos; they're constructed in such a way that it makes you lose track of time and, eventually, your money. Moreover, they're getting suspicious when someone is winning large amounts of money and, indeed, may attempt to drive them away.

However, as a simple employee, it's generally advised to not interfere and mind your own business. You're not the one making choices here, but I understand the OP's point. I'd also hate seeing someone lose, especially if it's a regular attendant I personally know, but in general, it's a risk gamblers are willing to take and not our decision to make. I'd rather not get reprimanded by neither the gambler nor my employer for someone else's choice. On top of that, no casino would ever allow its employees to step in and interfere, as it's against the concept of casinos, which is to make money on other people's losses. Which business owner would jeopardize himself to save someone else's issues caused by their addictions?

528  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greek 2023–24 Super League Predictions & Discussion on: December 08, 2023, 07:25:51 AM
Indeed the first goal of Olympiakos that was cancelled as offside through the VAR did not seem like an offside at all.

It's pretty clear that the referee made a call on a case that was very much on the edge

~Snipped~

Like, what do people think this is? It's right for Olympiakos fans to be upset imho but the issue here is also that Mr. Marinakis calling Greek football a criminal gang is very absurd.

First of all he was implicated in the biggest drug bust himself as a ship owner, and all the witnesses in his case, around 10 or so, died in mysterious circumstances. Secondly, he has been implicated in match fixing before. So who knows if he will be believed this time. He said he had evidence, but what was he waiting for? Sad circumstances for Greek football nevertheless.
I'm not sure if it was an offside; it doesn't seem like one to me. It's ironic for Marinakis to call Greek football a criminal gang, as he's the one running the whole operation, along with the drug cartel. It's not the first time soccer matches have been fixed, and I wouldn't be surprised if this is all a show. I find it difficult to believe that Olympiakos didn't win against Volos and had two goals cancelled; the whole scenario seems extremely sketchy. Where is his evidence, and why hasn't it been presented yet? Because it's likely nonexistent. If it is supposedly found that the match was fixed, it'll be extremely ironic and certainly something he was aware of. I simply cannot believe that he's suddenly all innocent.
529  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Where the mixers will promote their projects? on: December 07, 2023, 01:57:23 PM
The wage rate in the new version of the Mixero campaign that Royce launched today on altcointalk is very low, and I do not think that anyone will be encouraged to join it. $1 per post, with an increase in the minimum number of posts per week (30 posts).
If Altcointalk is the best forum in the market in terms of activity and traffic after BitcoinTalk, then it cannot be an alternative to it as an advertising market on which advertising campaigns are able to achieve the best results. Perhaps some companies will be encouraged by the idea of moving the campaign to another forum, but this is only as an experiment and I do not think they will continue with this option for a long time.
It's justified if you ask me; I hadn't heard of Altcointalks till now, so I'm guessing it's nowhere as popular as Bitcointalk, and its userbase must be far smaller. From a quick look-around I did, it's certainly not as active, and this probably justifies the lower pay. I don't think I'd bring myself to change forums to join a signature campaign, especially with such a petty amount of money compared to the standards we're used to here, but also because the other forums that have been mentioned here don't inspire me.

Some services will certainly move to other forums, but they're not receiving anywhere close to the traffic we're receiving, so I have my doubts regarding their advertising efficiency.
530  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casinos and gamblers are struggling with high tx fees.? on: December 07, 2023, 10:16:06 AM
There are so many options for both gamblers and casinos to avoid high transaction fees. The majority of them offer a wide variety of deposits in altcoins, such as Litecoin, Stellar, Doge, Ethereum, BNB, and so many more that it's merely an issue at this point. The only concern is that it requires you to convert your coins, which is susceptible to trading fees, but usually, that's minimal compared to the higher transaction fees of Bitcoin and sometimes Ethereum. With that being said, I don't see a reason to use Bitcoin if you're frequently depositing at a casino. Even providers convert to other coins, just like we do to avoid any fees.
531  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling and Behavioral Change!!! on: December 07, 2023, 08:40:24 AM
When we're winning, the brain releases a chemical called dopamine that makes us feel good. That's why your mood is improved instantly. If you're addicted, though, you're getting used to the dopamine and constantly craving more, just like how nicotine works in cigarettes. It's understandable to feel irritated after losing, especially if it's a large sum of money, but feeling moody and angry towards friends and family members is a no-go. It's a sign that gambling is getting the best of you to the point that it's controlling your emotions. Similarly, when you're stepping home from work, you need to leave your emotions out of your close circle; otherwise, you'll lash out about your work's issues to your loved ones, losing in gambling works in a similar way.

I believe that it's quite common among gamblers, and I've personally suffered some moodiness after losing a couple of times, but you eventually get the hang of it and control your behavior and your betting strategy.
532  Economy / Economics / Re: Fuel prices hitting an eight year high on: December 06, 2023, 12:23:42 PM
It's indeed been a while since this thread was last updated, but it's an interesting subject. Fortunately, crude oil prices have slightly dropped compared to what they were a few months ago, surpassing $90 or even $100 in some cases. Brent crude is now at $76.50 and WTI crude at $72, still a lot more expensive than it used to be a few years ago. Unfortunately, I don't expect prices to fall back to what they used to be anytime soon or ever, while the EUR/USD exchange rate is far from being what it used to be.

Even though crude has dropped in price and the exchange rate isn't that bad (1 EUR was equal to $1.10 a few days ago), thanks to our government and pure market speculation, fuel prices haven't dropped too much, with petrol costing an average of €1.87/liter and diesel at €1.69/liter. I'm not sure what to expect in the future, but I'm guessing that high fueling costs have become the norm, as €1.85 per liter was once considered high and was mostly noticed during the summer periods; now it's merely the average price to pay.
533  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do You Include Or Always Include Gambling In Your New Year's Resolution on: December 06, 2023, 09:55:31 AM
It's never proven that jotting down a New Year's resolution is very effective, and maybe others see this as just a waste of time. Or you don't know to write, as long as you have that in mind throughout the year you will be good.

And definitely, gambling should not be a constrain to anyone, we've seen people losing big money and then some winning big with huge parlay and lottery. So as long as you are gambling responsibly, you will be fine without writing it as a practice that we have known for.
That's correct. Personally, New Year's Resolution is just another day in the calendar; making such promises to myself for the upcoming year feels like beating a dead horse. We humans, myself included, rarely keep up with those. I personally cannot recall honoring a promise I made at the end of the year, and it's merely simple ones like starting an activity or taking better care of myself. Usually, the New Year's Resolution effect wears off after a few days, and we're too unmotivated to keep up with it.

The summary towards the end of the year usually goes like this:

Save $5.000 $500
Start going to the gym or a sport Watch TV
Eat healthier. Eat

Thus, why should I include something like gambling? I'm neither addicted nor an often-used user; I don't see any reason to be concerned about occasional use.
534  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greek 2023–24 Super League Predictions & Discussion on: December 05, 2023, 07:49:56 PM
It's very likely that the next match day in the Greek super league is not going to take place as scheduled.
Referees decided to strike and formally announced their decision, forwarded in a letter to UEFA.
They're citing threats received by Mr. Papapetrou, a local referee who was overseeing the adventurous match between Olympiacos and Volos.
From how I see things, I don't think the cancellation of Masouras' goal at 60' is justified; it seems like a solid goal to me. And to imagine, I regretted not participating in the previous matches, especially Olympiakos vs. Volos, after seeing what happened, not so much as I was expecting Olympiakos to win. I was looking forward to trying my luck on the next one, but it's not bound to come soon.
Now also Olympiacos owner has come out saying that football in Greece is controlled by a criminal gang. Roll Eyes
Well, isn't it true? He simply has forgotten to mention that he's the leader of that criminal gang, a tiny detail.  Grin

537  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Binance removing support for BUSD on: December 05, 2023, 07:41:24 AM
I think binance creating a new stablecoin with a different name and different company it is called FDUSD First Digital USD this is just my opinion since BUSD fail and Binance war with the SEC BUSD is out from the paxos and creating new companies in HongKong https://firstdigitallabs.com/ since binance is always pump FDUSD with high APR staking and lot other.
FDUSD is already running on Binance and is being promoted on Launchpads, along with TUSD and BNB. Moreover, it's now offering a 10% APY bonus for up to $1,000 in their "Earn/Staking" section. However, is there any proof to back such a claim? Although I understand your point that it's heavily promoted, it's best not to jump to conclusions without being able to confirm the validity of such statements. Personally, apart from what you've mentioned, which is merely a suspicion, I don't see any link between Binance and First Digital Limited, the issuer of FDUSD. On top of that USDT is also being promoted and having boosted APYs, thus, I don't think your claim is enough to come up with such a conclusion.
538  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I could have won bigger. on: December 04, 2023, 12:12:08 PM
When you lend money, you should always think of the worst-case scenario, thus not expecting it back. Right now, even though your friend might repay you eventually, you didn't have the money in hand when you actually needed it for yourself. I personally avoid lending money unless it's someone close to me or cannot avoid me, because it puts me in a difficult position. Congratulations on your earnings, though. That's a great yield for a $1 wager. Don't stress too much about how much you could have possibly won if you had the $10, because there's always the possibility of you making different wagers, betting different amounts of money, and ultimately losing your earnings. You can never know the outcome.
539  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Money laundering in crypto casino on: December 04, 2023, 08:44:41 AM
Isn't it already possible, though? Some casinos don't even ask for verified KYC and ask for basic information like your name and surname in case of a withdrawal, and sometimes they don't even verify their validity. Thus, it may be possible with relatively smaller amounts, which weren't too much of a concern to begin with, but you do run the risk of withholding your funds in case they suspect malicious usage; a large withdrawal, for instance, would trigger their security system and block you and your access to your funds. Perhaps it can be done every now and then, but is it ultimately worth the risk?

Also, to add in @Solosanz reply, because I agree with what he mentioned, I had an account in a Lithuanian bank that was often used for money laundering, something that I did not know at the time, not going to name which, because it's unnecessary, but the bank faced some serious allegations and had to stop operations. If I'm not mistaken, they've relaunched and gone through a stricter KYC.
540  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Hits $40,000 for First Time Since April 2022 on: December 04, 2023, 06:37:12 AM
Many of us never expected Bitcoin to cross the 40k region at this time and most importantly we have kept a high gaze at the after-halving possibility for market increase, but surprised, bitcoin have crossed the 40,000k+ price even before the middle of the last month of 2023 which to me is a good sign of what to expect shortly and at some point also, if the rally persists in it current speed, that means we are going to see a possible new price benchmark mark befor6the much speculated 2024 March - April Bitcoin halving period.

So seeing Bitcoin at 40k really excites me at this moment in time because many who bought Bitcoin when the price was below or within the 20k region, are already in massive gains right now.
Neither did I. Not long ago, I created a thread discussing when we're likely to reach the $50,000 mark, and I also mentioned that Bitcoin is unlikely to surpass $40,000 within 2023. It wasn't a great year after all, and I didn't expect any pleasant surprises in the two-to-three months that were left. I was wrong, though, and woke up today to find that it has reached $41,000 and may climb even further. Its price is already increasing as I'm typing this post. It's quite possible to surpass $50,000 by March or April, which, from the lowest price in 2023, is up to a 3x yield in a smaller than 2-year period. Quite astonishing, if you ask me.

I'm not quite sure when we'll have another ATH, certainly between 2024 and 2025, but it doesn't look that far from where we currently are.
