Another easy trade with BCB, thanks! I will have another $1k available starting tomorrow.

The only way it was possible was because of his business sockpuppet account kept him from raising his personal account's post count a bit... but I guess you had several socks too, so do they cancel each other out?
523  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: ButterFried Labs introduces a new line of chips for miners! on: July 25, 2012, 03:46:27 AM
Ever wondered why half the bag of chips in a commercial package is all air? It's to prevent chip dust like you were worried about. If you take a standard bag of chips and stack 10 bags vertically, the bottom one will act like a balloon to protect its contents. Additionally, the empty air space is filled with an inert gas such as nitrogen, instead of plain air which would impart a stale flavor.

Just some tips for shipping. Wink

I don't have any funds in Gox.  I'm looking to buy Dwolla, not sell though... not sure if that's what you meant?
Ah, I'm in the same boat. Need to buy.
525  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: USD between MTGOX <--> DWOLLA on: July 25, 2012, 01:25:32 AM
Still would like to acquire some Dwolla, anyone?
Are you only doing bitcoin trades, or will you take goxusd as well?

What am I missing here, wasn't the bet slated to end in October?
527  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin 500 richest addresses, updated often. on: July 24, 2012, 10:33:48 PM
Yes, it's true.  Look at the scripts on blockexplorer.  They say "to spend this, you must provide a public key with the following 160 bit hash, and a signature made with the corresponding private key".  It doesn't specify which public key must be used.  Any one with the correct 160 bit hash will work.

Here's an example script:

OP_DUP OP_HASH160 5b62be019b9c39991daed3c3d0e2186986476c11 OP_EQUALVERIFY OP_CHECKSIG
Yes that is the part I was misunderstanding, thanks for the explanation.

Learn about the essential protocols that glue the internet together - we can always use people that know this stuff!

Figure out how TCP/IP works, and why VPNs that use IPSEC work the way they do.
An interesting one is BGP and its variants. BGP makes it possible to route your data anywhere in the world.
Learn about DNS, and the DNSSEC security extensions.
Read about SSL and the CA system, and why it is at risk.
Discover the alternate roots and VPN-based dark routing schemes that piggyback the Internet as we know it.

Pick one and become an expert, or learn them all and become a network administrator!

And meanwhile, the Google rankings are gathering steam, the longer this topic stays up. Some people just want to watch the world burn. Shame on you OP for posting such a fucking retarded pile of garbage.

How many rails and how many Amps are each of these PSU's?
They are all single rail. The amperage of the 1300watt lightning is 108A on the main 12v rail. The amperage of the 910watt PCP&C is 74A on the main 12v rail. And the amperage of the 750watt Cooler Master is 60A on the main 12v rail.

532  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 24, 2012, 04:19:42 PM
I recently had a debate with someone whose current job position is "security architect" (my own background is in crypto and security, but I don't work with it today) who didn't like our choice of 128 bit UUIDs as authentication tokens in URLs. He believed we should add a unique string for our specific service in front of the UUID, to lessen the risk for clashes with other services.
Oh derp, I just rolled my eyes out of my head.  Roll Eyes
The UU in UUID stands for Universally Unique. And it is unique, unless some bonehead doesn't use any entropy.
"Security Architect" indeed.

What if i have low amps and high volts? or high volts and low amps? I'm saying watts is too ambiguous to use as a measurement tool, im almost not sure why anyone still uses it as a measurement.
You can't measure light with amps, it doesn't work. You could measure the amount of power it takes to drive the laser diode, but that isn't necessarily relevant.
They are different units, used in different applications. Amps is a measure of current, which is a rate of flow, and exists as an effect of voltage (electromotive force).

A watt is a measurement of energy, which is power (one joule) over a period of time (one second).
534  Other / Off-topic / Re: [IDEA] Anti-Arrest Vest on: July 24, 2012, 03:29:38 PM
If you have that many lazes I'd assume they don't need to be high powered because all of them combined will be low powered.. I've stared at low powered lasers as a kid no harm done Tongue
Do you have any idea how powerful 1.8 watts of concentrated laser energy is? For comparison, a cheap laser pointer will be between 3 and 5 milliwatts. 1800 milliwatts will burn on contact with a variety of materials, including skin, rubber, wood, and more.

Isn't it more accurate to use amps instead of watts? watts is a meta-measurement Tongue
Nnnnooo...... No. Amps is watts divided by volts, and light doesn't have "volts" as such.

LOL people, again, I was joking Smiley  Does one need to use [sarcasm][/sarcasm] tags to convey sarcasm???
Yes, especially when you are starting a new post.

I haven't bothered to even look at the articles, but the author isn't our whiny Bitcoinica whale Maria, is it?
No, different one.

538  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Want to buy - the world's first 25 BTC block on: July 24, 2012, 02:51:05 PM
If you really had some money I would take a gamble and aproach the top 3 pools.  Offer to prepay them a premium directly if they use a vanity address (1st25BTC....) you generated as the coinbase for that block.

Then it will be 0 hops.  Of course even w/ top 3 pools you only have a ~50% chance of getting that particular block.

Nice idea. Let me think about it for a few months.

Yes, great idea. Wish I had thought of it...
+1, great way to do it. That way, you can have no trust necessary in regards to passing private keys, since the pool only needs the address to mine to. And, multiple pools can all work on the same address.

I have an additional $1k MtGox USD that I want to trade for Dwolla. Any takers?
