521  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Powered risers or not? on: August 08, 2013, 03:10:24 AM
I have 4 x 7970's running on one machine with normal non powered Risers working fine...

Almost the same here.. 3x7970 and 1x7870 all on one mobo (ASRock xtreme3) non-powered risers for 1yr+ thus far.. (1050W gold PSU)

Had another rig with 7950x3 and another 7870x1 until I re-tweaked the 7950s, at that point I didnt want to abuse my 1000w gold PSU too much.. so I took the 7870 off..

I just got the email from the mailing list and it says that October 8th will be your "launch date". What does that mean? Can I preorder then or is that when this ships? If that's when it ships, when can I start ordering?

It's the 10th of August if you've received the email. You should be able to start reserving your order once we've published all the details.

How do you reserve an order? That doesn't require payment, correct? I rem you stating you're funding yourself to the point of having product ready for sale without pre-order.

You would be able to reserve your order through our website with just your delivery details but to complete the order you will need to set up an escrow deposit with either John K or Escrow.com (We won't have access to the funds until after a confirmed delivery).

John will be publishing a public address for all sub $1,000 orders and we will be sending out a set of clear instructions on the steps. We will be publishing the details and terms on the 10th and it will be followed up with a more comprehensive FAQ section here and on xcrowd.co.uk.

So there is pre-ordering, but it's protected?

Indeed. With an automatic refund on delays. The terms will be simple and end user friendly. Using multi-sig escrows you won't even need us to approve an escrow release/refund.

::thumbs up::

I was looking at that one before.. couple different manufactures have it.. the usb ports themselves look way to close together..

528  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Which USB hub to use with Block Erupters or K1? A List. on: July 31, 2013, 05:46:13 PM
Yeah I got the original response as "900ma" ... then I asked what does it specifically state on the plug itself.. and got that slightly odd 5V9A answer...
529  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Which USB hub to use with Block Erupters or K1? A List. on: July 31, 2013, 04:57:27 PM

I noticed that one too.. got a mix of USB 2.0 and 3.0... wouldn't work with the Pi right?

according to the specs on their site:

\\
4 Upstream and down stream USB 3.0 ports. 9 Upstream and down stream USB 3.0 ports. 480mpbs and 5gbps transfer rates with on/off LED indicator with power switch for each port. Supports hot swap plug and play  devices.

**Does not need power supply to operate but recommended for high power consumption devices**

Hub weight: 140g
Cable Length 100cm
Power Supply 3.5mm DC 5v jack.

//

Can't find the Amps..

yea i couldnt either

Speedy response back from the company contact on their website... states the following:

"I believe, the units are as follows : 5 Volts , 45 Watts 9 Amps - 900mA each USB port."

So - has anyone taken an old GPU rig setup and bought PCI and PCI-E USB cards?   Usually, 4-5 ports each.. loaded up maybe 4-5 slots with these in a case or outside.. then fired up some BEs?
533  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Largest Effective USB Hub for Block Erupters? on: July 30, 2013, 11:15:08 PM
I dont find that list of hubs useful ... there is plenty of cheaper hubs on ebay, .... maybe they can break down but ... everything is made in china

http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-Port-Hi-Speed-USB-2-0-Hub-Power-Adapter-for-PC-Laptop-Black-5V-DC-2A-N4U8-/350840818287?pt=US_USB_Cables_Hubs_Adapters&hash=item51afbe0a6f

0.7 usd/1usb port

Absoloutely not. These are garbage. Only supports 2 USB miners without AC adapter, and 4 miners with AC adapter. If you directly wire in a high current power source, such as a computer power supply to barrel adapter, the most you can expect to work is 4-8. I bought 5 and returns them all for a full refund. Dont bother with these.

What are you using now?
534  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Which USB hub to use with Block Erupters or K1? A List. on: July 30, 2013, 02:45:58 PM
Has anyone tried an internal 3.5 bay hub at all (just curious) ?

Like the below:

http://www.weconnex.com/usb-3-0-4-ports-internal-3-5-bay-hub.html

or perhaps a PCI-E or PCI usb card?

535  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [SELL] USB Eruptor based miner - 3+ GH/s on: July 29, 2013, 09:21:17 PM
Well - you have a couple arguments there:

-Can you get a Jala/BFL anything at that price within the next couple days?

-Power consumption?

However, now that one can jump on a GB and get the UBEs at 0.45-0.55 BTC /each - so, you have to do the math on this deal including hub/fan or another UBE
