I'm curious how they are making money on this zero fee crypto exchange, I'm assuming it's a loss leader and they expect a typical member to also be buying stocks that do have fees?

A bit of research quickly shows that the first "personal computer" was the Apollo Guidance Computer.

There is a simulator on the web.

https://www.ibiblio.org/apollo/

The source code is on Github.

it was sarcasm, my friend. It's funny to see how some people can't understand how it's possible to do such important and epic things without iphones  Grin

Well, that's their problem. Complex operating systems and GUIs usually just get in the way of getting a job done.

Space navigation is celestial mechanics formulas and data points ran through a program, a lot of the old Fortran code is still being used.

A lot is ADA too.

What is in the air that's bringing all these old stagers out of hiding? It's welcome but mysterious.

Bourbon and linseed oil.

I wonder if these folks have 2 versions of the same article to print depending on which way the market goes, like the news famously does for elections...

The overall cryptocurrency market cap stands at $222 billion at press time, having lost a whopping 20 billion in less than an hour. Bitcoin’s share sits at 69.2%.

When times are tough you call a professional, I can catch knives with the best of 'em. Singlehandedly almost nearly maybe only in my mind pausing the down trend with a flurry of miniscule buys since 2017.

Betamax was a much better technology than VHS. Better technology for Dapps isn't the focus, the one killer Dapp should be, and odds are it'll be on the Ethereum network just from the numbers.

never heard of it and don't know what you're talking about.

you can compare the dapps here,
eos dapps; https://dappradar.com/rankings/protocol/eos/ vs eth dapps; https://dappradar.com/rankings/protocol/ethereum

i see eos dapps are much better than eth. eos dapps also have much more users.

my vision, i strongly see blockchain will soon evolving into OS(operation system). it will taking away shares from the like microsoft windows, android apps and apple apps ect..

Look it up. It's a cautionary tale of what happens when you assume the better technology always beats the lesser.

Also, here's some numbers for you from a different source...
# of Dapps on Ethereum: 2608
# of Dapps on Eos: 297

This cautionary article might be timely for some with the big swings happening today...

550  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Blockchain-based social media worth it? on: September 24, 2019, 03:51:45 PM
Correct me if I’m wrong, but once the world adopts crypto, there will be a real necessity for block chain social networks.

Why? The world can adopt crypto and use it to pay for centralized services.

Down, sideways, up, still accumulating and will do so until the ship reaches land or hits an iceberg.

I do not quite understand how he is going to implement it not to the detriment of the country's economy

It's the equivalent of a $12k USD tax break for every tax paying citizen. Trump gave his business buddies in the 1% a bigger slice last year. It can be done.

POS (what an unfortunate acronym) will be great when it gets going, for the health of the network I think, but I don't really get why people think it will be all that great to stake your coins. The interest rate isn't that much and the penalties if your machine gets hacked and tries to double spend are pretty severe. At least that's my neophyte understanding of it. I guess the rate is better than cash at your local saving's account but even a bog standard 401k will outperform it. POS seems like a technical necessity for growth and stability but it's not going to be a giant windfall to large hodlers IMO.

All the long range log charts have Oct-Nov as the capitulation phase of the 2017 bubble. Some predicting as low as $1800.

New bull market to start in January 2020 off the lows.

An economist is an expert who will know tomorrow why the things he predicted yesterday didn't happen today...

Haha, love this! +WO merit (out of the real stuff again)

Lot of questions about stock-to-flow going to infinity.

People don't realize that after 2020 halving #bitcoin market value will be $1T+ and after 2024 $10T, while USD monetary base is $3T .. so then people just stop accepting USD, like nobody accepts Zimbabwe $ for bitcoin now.

Yes people, BTC will likely be worth 6 figures, 7 figures.. Even 8 figures....
But don't forget by this point a gallon of milk may be $5000, or $2.5M for a basic mid-size sedan etc etc.
It's not like prices are going to freeze as CBs inflate their currencies into oblivion
558  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: John McAfee Believes Dogecoin “Will Go To The Moon” on: September 18, 2019, 05:19:55 PM
I would laugh my balls off if Dogecoin became the defacto stable coin used for getting in and out of other coins. What a complete FU to the world that would be.
559  Economy / Speculation / Re: What year will Bitcoin reach $250,000? on: September 17, 2019, 05:57:18 PM
If everyone hodls you will need to pay high enough for someone to say "OK here you go". That could make bitcoin theoretically go up to $1M without any transactions or money put in.

That would be so awesome, but I think we'll need to go through a LOT of churning before btc is held by enough strong hands of that caliber.
560  Economy / Economics / Re: Conservation Law on: September 17, 2019, 04:48:36 PM
Economics does have that law (not really a law), it's called Zero Sum Economy which basically states that in order for someone to have something more then someone else must have something less. There are many proponents of this idea and many that completely disagree with it, count me in the latter category. Reality is of course more nuanced but economists like to argue these philosophies quite a bit.
