Ah, shifting the goal posts. Nice.

How do they work differently? Both have to hop through the same regulatory hoops.

Does kraken currently have over 1 million unique users that can use the exchange?
Does kraken have FDIC insurance on usd balances?
Does Kraken currently have 0 fees?

Like I said this was about location.

How many of those 1 million have traded on coinbase the last two months?
According to the post above only coins in the hot wallet are insured. Don't think so.
Currently not, but then neither will coinbase in a few months.
542  Economy / Speculation / Re: Coinbase exchange is the turning point on: January 26, 2015, 03:44:54 PM
I also think that this is the turning point. It's one of the most solid exchanges to this point. And it's based in the US where people are in dire need of a regulated and legitimate exchange. Going down a mere 10% now is just a slight correction! Smiley

not available yet in 25-26 states, including mine. I am curious- what's the holdup?

http://www.coindesk.com/coinbase-secures-approval-launch-regulated-us-bitcoin-exchange/

Saying they hope to have regulatory approval from all states in the next 6 months.  Individual state regulations, I guess.

Kraken goes through the same since they started. In their thread it was mentioned each state costs 50'000 USD to get the regulation. Well, coinbase at least have the dough to face that. Doesn't mean it will be quick.
543  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] KRAKEN.COM - Exchange Now Open with USD, EUR, BTC, LTC, XRP, NMC, XDG on: January 26, 2015, 03:39:07 PM

Yes, it was very simple, just enter a new address and confirm it with a confirmation mail... (maybe there are additional security settings you can activate, I don't know.. but of course you have to be logged in, and login is protected be yubikey here)

There is the "global settings lock", but I don't think it would have helped in your case as you changed the email yourself.

This seems like an issue with that website.

Protip: Use an email provider that offers 2FA as well.
Some users say, they have normal access to the website, that's why I'm in panic... maybe someone hacked my router/wlan system?!
Yes... that's why I chose mailbox.org... they offer a yubikey for 2FA. But you can't use the yubikeys you have already and have to buy a new one. The yubikey for mailbox.org will arrive in ~ one week. ... ... ...
But I used a very strong password of course. So I can't imagine someone hacked it via brute forece or something like that. And there are these issues with the website described above... so my system/WLAN could be compromised (it's very new system on a new laptop, just a week old)... we will see..

I assume somebody only has access to my mailbox account and changed the password via password resett (is this possible with just have access to mail account? )
But because he needs the yubikey to withdraw bitcoins/login, he can't do more.

I also have normal access to Kraken at the moment.

What sort of security do you use on your wifi? WPA2 + AES?

Why Yubikeys? They do fail eventually (I'll admit after millions of taps  Wink ) . I prefer Google Authenticator as I can transfer it to another phone. And if you don't trust Google on this there are other implementations.

I hate that their is no emergency hotline or something like this... not at kraken, not at mailbox.org... always you have to wait hours or days to get an answer >.<

You get what you pay for. I realise you pay for both one way or the other, but if you want support 24/7 it will cost you a lot more.

For mailbox.org there is this:

There's already been a US Based exchange that complies with US Regulations.  On Feb 5th it will have been opened for a Year now!

https://www.atomic-trade.com

Yeah, Kraken too.

Thought Kraken was British and not in the US.
Kraken isn't US. Also that atomic trade looks like altcoin exchange and news stand in one.

http://blog.kraken.com/about
THat they are based there doesn't mean they work like coinbase one.

How to contact them on FB or github?

On github you create an issue, but it's meant to be about code issues.

Facebook gives: support@kraken.com (which you probably already know)

I changed my mailadress some days ago from gmx to mailbox.org, because gmx was hacked to often, so I thought mailbox.org is more secure.

Did you change the email address within Kraken? (don't remember that was possible, last time I checked)

But When I go to mailbox.org it says:
Quote
Warning: include_once(): open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/srv/www/htdocs/production/wp-content/plugins/LayerSlider/layerslider.php/classes/class.ls.sliders.php) is not within the allowed path(s): (/srv/www/htdocs/mailbox.org:/srv/www/htdocs/bmbo-verwaltung/:/var/www/wp_englisch:/tmp:/usr/share/php5:/usr/share/php:/var/lib/php5:/srv/www/htdocs/ALIASE/) in /srv/www/htdocs/production/wp-content/plugins/js_composer/include/classes/vendors/plugins/class-vc-vendor-layerslider.php on line 30

Does anybody know what this means? It's also there when I try it from a different Pc.

This seems like an issue with that website.

even though this is the trollbox

the difference between coinbases regulated exchange and the other smaller (do not want to be disrespectul) exchanges will be that it is embedded in a financial industry climate. it also does not need to be kicked off as gemini due to having a huge customer base.

but anyway

They face the same regulatory hurdles like Kraken and Atomic do. They need to be embedded with regulators to have an easy ride.
550  Economy / Speculation / Re: Coinbase exchange is the turning point on: January 26, 2015, 02:43:25 PM
Anybody here long enough to see Mtgox, Tradehill, BitInstant, many other scams and hacks and scandals, will surely be looking forward to have a regulated, insured exchange leading the way from now on.

This is a turning point in confidence and many have been waiting some years for this to happen.

The fact that Coinbase is already popular is killer and makes all the difference.

This is the day you can have your cake, and eat it too.

To celebrate, we post pictures of cake.

There have been regulated US exchanges for a while. This won't change much.

Yeah, Kraken too.

I was sure Kraken was from Europe Huh

Anyway the moon exchange has fluffy stuff like insurance against hackings and failures.

I think it is new in the exchange scenario

http://blog.kraken.com/about

Their main volume is coming from EUR trades though. It's cumbersome to do it the "right" way in the US.
552  Economy / Speculation / Re: GS, JPM and all other boutiques will open their bitcoin desks sooner or later on: January 26, 2015, 02:34:06 PM
With a regulated US exchange, it is expected all major investment banks will tap into the trading area of bitcoins.

Liquidity, depth of order book and trading volume will all be improved.

This is the real potential benefit I read from the coinbase announcement.

By the regulation, It is impossible for banks to trade on bitfinex and bitstamp in the past, unlike our retail traders.

There already are regulated US exchanges for a long time. One more won't change anything quickly.

Not even available for customers outside the US, and not even in all US states. hahahahahahah  this is so hilarious.

Bulls you are really pathetic, I don't know how a new "regulated" exchange is bullish (like Bitstamp isn't) and the news turns to be even shittier Cheesy

Same with Kraken. Doing it "right" in the US is expensive and lengthy process

And there we go to 270$
People already dumping  Undecided

But what made them start dumping and killing BTC again??? What's in the news that's taking down BTC?

Maybe somebody takes the piss out of coinbase?
558  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 26, 2015, 02:06:03 PM
I'm trying to get to the exchange from India and I receive the message : "Coinbase Exchange is not yet available in your state."

But I am a US citizen previously based in NC! Oh regulations...

What's your IP?
