541  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Ryan Garcia vs Oscar Duarte (December 2) on: November 28, 2023, 03:29:49 AM
The pressure to win is so much on Team Ryan Garcia considering that he is coming from a knockout loss to Tank Davis.

But we should also note that Oscar Duarte is a 135-pound fighter/boxer, meaning this would be his first fight at 140 which Ryan Garcia is comfortable at. I don't know if Duarte still has that power at 140 but definitely, this fight favors Garcia though on paper, this an interesting match but the truth to it is that for me this is still a cherry-picked opponent.

The pre-fight odds are reflecting exactly this, people seem to be favoring Garcia heavily, even though he has less fights to his name, but he's younger and ranked higher. They put these two against each other bacause they both have just a single loss, so on paper this looks like a good match, like they both have a lot to lose, but Duarte is going to need some mistakes from Garcia to win. If they both are in good form on the day of the fight he will be at a disadvantage and people know it, which is why bookies are paying much more if you bet on Duarte.

It's not surprising at all since Garcia is a popular boxer and became a champion before getting KO'd by Tank Davis, while Duarte has not won a championship yet, and his current division ranking is not even in the top 3. So, I can't blame people for thinking that this is just a cherry-picked fight for Garcia to increase his ranking after his loss to Davis. Regardless, I still consider this fight interesting for the reason that Duarte is a KO artist.
542  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing: Regis Prograis vs Devin Haney (9th of December) on: November 28, 2023, 02:31:42 AM
I wish this match happened with both fighters equally young. Right now this fight is tilted towards Haney because he is clearly at the top of his game. He is young. He is very athletic and hungry. Prograis could have much higher chances if he was as young as Haney. Although he is still a great boxer who can give Haney a good match and he has also got those powerful punches, I think Haney can easily manage to maintain a good distance and win by points.

Haney, for me, is never really an exciting fighter compared to Davis who can deliver KOs all the time but he is a technical yet also boring fighter but definitely great with his footwork. He the kind of boxer who punches his opponent for the reason of just stopping their aggression in the ring and he is happy to see his points go up.

Since Regis is also a great boxer, the result will probably be the same as how Haney ended half of his fights which is by Decision.

We all know that Haney falls into the category of kinda boring boxers—there aren't many, but they're all unbeaten. Personally, I believe that boxing is as much about putting on a show as it is about competing. I mean, a boxer would get more love if they could both win the match and keep the crowd entertained simultaneously. But with Haney, it's all about that "W" – the entertainment factor is usually missing in action in most, if not all, of his fights.

Imagine having a one year old baby today and you set a certain amount of Bitcoin to be automatically available for moving out after 10 or 17 years later, with date and time, I think it's not impossible, if we can stake coins for a year or two before they become available for moving out why can't we lock Bitcoin in our hardware wallet for a particular period in the future?

We probably need a 3rd party to do that as it's not included as a feature in our hard wallet, simple feature will make it less risky to being compromise. Holding is really risky too although you could keep your bitcoin safely but you'll never know how long you'll stay in  this world, so if you die and no one would be able to benefit your bitcoin, what you work hard will just be wasted, though you'd help HODLERS as the supply in circulation will decrease.

I guess no wallet provider would integrate this feature though as they are to protect the security of their wallets, maybe there are like so called banks who would accept your bitcoin deposit, so if you trust them you can set up an account with your intention on how your bitcoin will move in the future.
544  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin transaction time reduce in future? on: November 27, 2023, 10:59:53 AM
Currently it takes 1-3 hours for a transaction to complete if we do it with less fee? Is it possible in future that this transaction time will reduce or may be even become instant? Like when all Bitcoins are  mined and there are mainly holders instead of traders and volume of transactions decline.

Fees rely on network congestion. If it's congested, you need to pay higher fees so your transaction will be prioritized. I think that has been the norm, and that's the reason why altcoins are created. Yet, Bitcoin is still the most popular since altcoins generally does not gain the trust of the people. I know there's this LN but it hasn't gain good adoption rate yet, probably because people find it complicated to follow?
545  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What one change to Bitcoin can make it's adoption faster? on: November 27, 2023, 08:34:41 AM
Nothing is perfect and Bitcoin is no exception. Let us discuss in this thread that one change which can increase the adoption of Bitcoin further at a rapid rate.

That could only happen if the government refrains from intervening, Bitcoin will function as intended, leading to rapid adoption. People tend to prioritize their privacy, and in this regard, Bitcoin has an advantage as it operates in a decentralized manner. This stands in contrast to centralized options favored by the government.
546  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: November 27, 2023, 03:31:38 AM
No Durant and the Suns are still winning the game currently. Gordon and Booker seem to be holding it down so far. Knicks better get someone besides Brunson going or they're not gonna have a chance in this game.

The Knicks couldn't take advantage in this game despite the Suns being undermanned, missing two of their superstars, and the Knicks playing at home. Suns with Booker (+ -) Durant really playing good basketball here, so even if bookies would sometimes make them as underdog, we can be confident that they have a good chance of winning, I'm wondering what the ML odds for this game?

Two straight home games without a win— that's disappointing. I initially thought they would only struggle with inconsistency during the playoffs, but it seems to be an issue even in the regular season. Meanwhile, the Suns have surged to the number 3 spot with their 7-game win streak. This team is proving to live on people's expectation. I wouldn't be surprised if they claim the number 1 spot once all three key players consistently play together.
547  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2023-2024 betting on: November 27, 2023, 03:02:21 AM
Wow! Kessler with a double-double in 21 minutes of playtime.
This Jazz team is strong, they just need to be healthy.

Glad he's back, Jazz has been having a problem recently with their interior defense, so with him, Both Clarkson and Markkanen would be able to focus on offense especially for Markkanen which he's been exhausted easily playing defense inside. Hopefully Kessler would not be reinjured and he'll stay healthy for a while as we've seen how the team are playing without him.
548  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can old generation cause the habit of gambling in young generation ? on: November 26, 2023, 01:07:57 PM
How can I stop the younger generation in my family being carried away by this and focus on other important things like studies only ?

People can't stop talking about what they love, and although the younger generations might overhear these conversations, it's not necessarily a problem if they are well-guided. IMO, it's beneficial for them to be informed about such matters even at a young age, so they can be aware of its risk. As the older generation, especially parents, it's always our responsibility to guide our children.

Keeping these topics away from them doesn't guarantee they won't encounter them, as their world extends beyond our immediate circle. They will meet new people in life, and discussions about gambling, for example, may still come up. If they are aware of the risks, they will be better equipped to handle such situations maturely.
549  Economy / Economics / Re: strange indicators to know economy is bad on: November 26, 2023, 11:44:09 AM
On the other hand, there are also a lot of people complaining about the rising prices of as basic a need as food and yet they don't even trim down their expenses on cigarettes or gambling or alcohol.

Yes. strange but True. If this is what is conveyed there is no word about inflation, especially when it comes to cigarettes and drinking coffee, we as men, especially active smokers can at least endure it, especially if we try to stop because of inflation, at most we can only last 1 hour. ..he, he, I really avoid the two things above, gambling or alcoholic drinks that you mentioned and don't do the things above.

But those are basic needs, universal for everyone, so people would really complain if they become expensive. Although some individuals have vices in life that could lead to financial struggles, we cannot relate that to the problem, as it requires a personal approach on an individual basis. The problem is quite general; hence, the solution needs to be for everyone. At the end of the day, our government does not engage in a blame game here; they have to find a specific solution to the problem.
550  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: November 22, 2023, 03:58:44 PM
LOL Philly seriously just lost at home against a Cavs team that is missing their best players.

NBA these days really is totally unpredictable.
Especially when teams are missing major players they suddenly pull off wins they maybe wouldn't even have gotten if the missing guys didn't sit. Kind of a next in line mentality.

I didn't even think it would happen. The only possibility I considered was that Philly wouldn't be able to cover the spread, but they ended up losing anyway. It felt like they put in so much effort to bring the game to OT, only to lose in the extra time. But you know, that's just the nature of the game. Philly has its off days, and we can't underestimate the Cavaliers. They're a solid team that doesn't rely heavily on Mitchell, unlike Philly, which leans a lot on Embiid.

That's something unexpected I was under the impression that after putting it into OT they will take this extra time to dominate and possibly cover
the handicap but that thing did not happen and went to the other side.

Sorry, lost for those who back up the favorite, not having Mitchell is not a big problem for the Cavs they've got
everyone to cover and to help them win the game.

Whoever picks the Cavs and gambles with a heavy risk, they are enjoying those huge earnings for sure.

I wasn't too sure they'd cover the spread when the game went into OT, but I'm still holding out hope. The spread was -8, so it's a long shot for them to cover in just 5 minutes. Considering the Cavaliers have been dominating from the start, it's tough to expect that turnaround, but losing would be disappointing. Anyhow, they're back on the court tomorrow against the Wolves, who are undefeated at home. Do you think they can beat the home team or at least win that points handicap?
551  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: They accumulate bitcoin but how about you? on: November 22, 2023, 02:41:13 PM
The smartest group in that list is the TEAM USA, they don't need to risk money to buy bitcoin, they just confiscate bitcoins and now they at the top 10.

They work smart not hard. LOL

Personally, I accumulate bitcoin, as in continuesly accumulating, but Im not as smart as them.. and I don't mind not getting in the list, as long as I owned bitcoin for my future, who knows, what if bitcoin could price at $1 million a piece, that would mean a fortune for me.
552  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2023-2024 betting on: November 22, 2023, 05:27:35 AM

Philly -7.5
indiana vs Hawks (over 251)

Tailing on these two picks. Philly has been so good in covering a high spread, and though they'll be hosting the Cavaliers which I believe is also a strong team but without Mitchell the home team would be able to take advantage on the situation.

On the 2nd bet, Indiana vs Hawks, these two teams loves to run the floor so most of their games are high scoring, so although 251 points is quite high on paper, but considering their production in average, that sure is easy to reach, plus I have a feeling that this game is going to be a close, so another factor that would make the game into over is the OT.

You're at a 1-1 record if you go through with it. But based on my four bets, it seems I'll finish with a 2-2 record since the 76ers lost, and the Jazz vs. Lakers game looks like it'll be a low-scoring one. At least we're even; we'll give it another shot tomorrow and hopefully end up in the profit zone.

You could have won that bet if the Jazz hadn't been shooting bricks. The Lakers outscored them significantly, with a 32-point win, and the Jazz were limited to less than 100 points in the game. Both JC and Markkanen were on lockdown, so the offense wasn't flowing for the typically high-scoring Jazz. If I'm not mistaken, this is their first game where they didn't reach at least 100 points. Just a bad game for the Jazz. Shocked

554  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Two Carreer skill benefit of gambling on: November 21, 2023, 10:16:44 PM
Socialization becomes relevant when gambling primarily for enjoyment, particularly in a physical casino. However, critical thinking is very important every time you engage in gambling serving as a guide for making the right decisions.

Employing critical thinking implies consistently making sound choices, steering clear of letting emotions dictate your actions. While winning in gambling isn't guaranteed, critical thinking does provide assurance in minimizing the risk of exceeding your limits and losing beyond what you can afford.

You should appreciate the fact that their spending habits could contribute to the profitability of your father's business. Thanks for sharing your observation. People have diverse approaches to spending, whether it's on wants or needs, and our unique perspectives stem from various influences. Given your parents' involvement in the business, you likely understand how to effectively manage your funds and prioritize your expenses. However, others may find inspiration in spending, viewing it as a motivator to work hard and earn money.

In our world, business ownership is pursued by a select few, while the majority opt for employment. As we're aware, only a small percentage achieve wealth, with the majority leading simple lives, not financially free, and unfortunately, a significant number still grappling with poverty.
556  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vs Monero - Privacy as the world becomes more dystopian on: November 21, 2023, 12:38:46 PM
Monero is a much better option if you want to stay anonymous with your payments and transactions.

It might beat Bitcoin in that specific aspect, but overall, Bitcoin holds more value, and that's quite evident. I believe Monero has potential for future growth, but it's unlikely to surpass what Bitcoin has already achieved. Bitcoin remains the main cryptocurrency accepted by the majority, and even though it doesn't offer complete privacy due to government regulations, we still need Bitcoin to lead the market. This way, altcoins like Monero can have a chance to progress.

[....]
However, what irks me about this story is that it took them a delay of 9 years to reach a decision on such a simple case. Considering it's a government agency involved, you'd think they could have expedited the investigation.
The time is reasonable if we look at the process.
- The Regional Trial Court ruled in favor of the bettor but the PCSO appealed and brought it to the Court of Appeals.
- The Court of Appeals upheld the decision of the RTC but the PCSO still not convinced so they went to the highest court.
- The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the two lower courts.

The PCSO have all the resources so they exercised all their legal options and that's why it took a total of 9 years to come to a decision with finality. That means there will be no more appeals.

I totally get the legal process, but if we had a similar case like this in our countries, I doubt it would take even close to 5 years before the final decision is released. I understand that the Supreme Court is the highest court in the Philippines, and its decisions are final and can't be appealed. However, waiting for 9 years, in my opinion, is still way too long.
558  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 9 Years Before He finally claim his lotto rewards on: November 21, 2023, 07:01:54 AM

The good thing is that the court has honored his winnings. I thought when a ticket is already destroyed, it's automatically non-acceptable, but the ruling of the court favors him but the sad part is after nine long years. What kind of justice system is that?

I have followed this story and the high court is right in presenting the decision to award the prize based on the article provided by OP
Quote
The High Court also explained that the circumstances surrounding the fact that Mendoza won the lotto were clearly established. Despite the RTC and CA’s characterization of Mendoza’s evidence as secondary, the SC said “secondary evidence may be resorted to when the original document is unavailable.”

Hence the secondary evidence pointed him to be the winner and besides no other came forward to claim the prize only him, It is a total injustice if he is deprived of the prize when there is a piece of physical evidence presented although partly damaged, this is a landmark case and the court have uphold justice that the winner deserves his prize, the winner suffers a lot and its not good to go to another hardship all through his life by having his appeal denied.

Certainly, the Supreme Court made the right call, and I'd say justice was served. However, what irks me about this story is that it took them a delay of 9 years to reach a decision on such a simple case. Considering it's a government agency involved, you'd think they could have expedited the investigation.

I don't know, perhaps the lottery winner gradually lost hope of ever getting their prize, so they must have been extremely happy when the decision finally came out.

Do you think it's worth the wait, he's getting 6% interest per annum but he still has to pay a lot of money and suffers a lot even to the point of having a rift with his daughter

He fought to claim his winnings, and I think it's worth the wait. Twelve million pesos is still a lot of money; he's now one of the millionaires in the Philippines, so he should be happy with that. The 6% interest per annum is another bonus, so I guess he'll now live a good life with the money he won from the lottery.

The good thing is that the court has honored his winnings. I thought when a ticket is already destroyed, it's automatically non-acceptable, but the ruling of the court favors him but the sad part is after nine long years. What kind of justice system is that?
560  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is this a good advice? on: November 20, 2023, 12:22:31 PM
We have different approaches to gambling. If you believe gambling is just for fun, then you should stick with that. That means you only have to gamble occasionally since you are not serious about gambling. On the other hand, those gamblers who aim to win in the long run will gamble more to gain experience, improve their skills, and increase their chances of winning the jackpot.

However, we should all have one common attitude, and that is to be disciplined while gambling and spend only what we can afford. While we may differ in strategy and the amount of bankroll, we are guided by the same principle to minimize the risk.
