561  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: All crypto prices are going down. on: January 09, 2018, 03:24:55 PM
An experienced trader knows that every time BTC rises/plummets most altcoins will move accordingly in the opposite direction. At least, this was true until the end of 2017.

Presently, BTC pairing is not what it used to be and a number of altcoins are rising simultaneously with BTC.

Crypto prices fluctuate a lot but one must distinguish between BTC/alt pairing and USD/alt pairing.

When BTC rises, a number of alts lose in the BTC pairing but gain in the USD pairing.

This is a tricky business...  Grin

Guys, BTC might be facing some troubled times ahead:

The way to go is to invest in altcoins, but definitively PoS, not PoW!

preferia levantar numa atm. o Kraken tb posso??

Grin

566  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency market will see crash and then consolidation on: January 09, 2018, 12:47:55 PM
Indeed, many projects are being pumped with no plausible explanation besides pure speculation. And this is not a good thing...  Undecided

I don't know if the bubble is going to burst or slowly deflate itself, but I don't see how these prices can be sustained in the long term.

Unless the market keeps creating more speculative projects, with no purpose besides pump and dump.

2018 will be the year for altcoins to rise, but at what cost?
567  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Will mining will ever stop ? on: January 09, 2018, 12:43:42 PM
I think most people think that miners do just that: "mining coins". But the thing is that their role in the network of a coin is much bigger than that. Their role is to keep the network secure, and by keeping the network secure I mean, processing the transactions and making sure they are all valid. They get the coins and the fees as a reward for doing just that. So "mining" will never stop, because if it stopped then tx were not processed and verified. They will eventually stop receiving the reward when the coin limit is reached, but they will still receive the fees for making the transactions, and that should still be a good incentive. Don't know how things will be when the lightning network gets deployed, since fees would be minimal. But I guess that we would get huge adoption when the LN arrives, so even minimal fees would be very profitable for miners.

Glad to see someone understands how the systems works. Apparently most users here think of mining only as a way to get coins, period. You are absolutely right, mining will never stop as long as the PoW mechanism is in place.

However, in my view PoS is a far more advanced system allowing for a domestic user with a Raspberry Pi to be a full node. That is a much better solution and to prove it we already have a number of solid projects, namely the PoS v3 with masternodes.

If ETH follow the roadmap and transitions to Casper, then it will be a full PoS coin too. We'll see what happens then...
568  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 2018 seems like a good year for ALTCOIN on: January 09, 2018, 12:37:46 PM
Altcoins are on the rise, the good one are really thriving and 2018 might be the year when the dust finally settles and the community embraces the serious projects. A lot of fresh money is entering cryptomarkets, most of it to altcoins.
569  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to find coins with potential on: January 09, 2018, 12:31:09 PM
These are my criteria:

- Premined or not?

Premined coins are too suspicious. The devs take an initial big slice for themselves always justifying that with some philosophical rhetoric but there are many past examples of total scam coins using this scheme.

- ICO or no ICO?

I don't like ICOs, I prefer to invest in an already ongoing project with given proof of stability and endurance. I'm not saying all ICOs are scam, but same of them are for sure!

- How old is the coin?

In my book, if a coin is still being actively traded after 3/4 years of existence, this has to mean something; there is a faithful community behind it.

- Is it still being actively developed?

Following the previous point, if after 3/4 years the coin still has a dev team committed to it with real plans for the future, then it has a real project!

- Does it have any real use besides pure pump and dump speculation?

Is the coin being used for any kind of purchases? If not, are there any plans for it? Otherwise, it will only be a play toy for trading.

- Does it have an active and large community?

How large is the community? Is it still active or everybody left a long time ago?

- Is it PoW of PoS?

Proof of Work is a dead end, the power consumption is obscene. Not viable for the average domestic crypto enthusiast. Proof of Stake can be done with a Rasberry Pi  Grin

- Fully functioning wallet?

Some coins have terrible wallets, unstable, not user friendly. This is a key factor, the software has to be in line with the state of the at crypto developments.

572  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Altcoin on: January 09, 2018, 12:18:50 PM
A long term investor will not set aside neither BTC nor the good altcoins.

BTC will keep it's dominance for many years and in that sense it will always be a safe harbor for any investor, but the same can be said about LTC or ETH.

But there are many other promising altcoin projects, and these might prove to be an even better investment.

So, BTC or alt? Both!  Grin
573  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to choose good coin!? on: January 09, 2018, 12:10:45 PM
What is a good coin? Good for what? Day trading? Long term holding?

Apart from that, these are my criteria for the initial evaluation:

Premined coins are too suspicious. The devs take an initial big slice for themselves always justifying that with some philosophical rhetoric but there are many past examples of total scam coins using this scheme.

574  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Hold Bitcoins or buy Altcoins with it on: January 09, 2018, 12:06:34 PM
Holding BTC is an investment strategy based purely on the believe the market value will keep on rising and a BTC/fiat pairing will keep on growing. Who knows? It might be a good strategy, but it's not enough for me.

Holding a PoW coin has a significant downsize; the number of coins will remain static over time!

On the other hand, holding a PoS coin might be a better strategy in the sense that over time the number of coins will grow in your wallet due to the minting mechanism. Combining this with the probability of value increase and you have a double wining solution.

On top of this, you might consider the possibility of holding a PoS v3 coin and setting up a masternode. Then, things would get really interesting...

Check out DMD's current stats:

Impressive, isn't it?

Conclusion: Hold some BTC, but diversify and get some PoS coins.

575  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is the best coin to buy today? on: January 09, 2018, 11:36:28 AM
Guys, take a look at these figures:

A PoS v3 coin with masternodes is a true wealth generator. With minimum effort!

576  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What altcoin will make us rich? on: January 09, 2018, 11:33:46 AM
The altcoins with future and capable of generating wealth with minimum effort are the PoS.

Specially the PoS v3 with masternodes.

Take a look at DMD's stats:

577  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: All coins are now dying, what do you think? on: January 08, 2018, 09:39:51 AM
Many coins are dying, while others are thriving.

A lot of fresh money is being dumped into crypto so let's make the best of it.

It's normal for some coins to die because they are completely worthless. I truly wish more of therm would disappear clearing the room for the good projects.
578  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Hold Bitcoins or buy Altcoins with it on: January 08, 2018, 09:35:05 AM
Check out Buzz Coin https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/buzzcoin/
It's only 5 Satoshi at the moment. You can buy and put it at stake for a 1200% annual return.
From the next month, the rewards for staking will be lowered, so the price will increase for sure.
The people from the discord estimate this coin will get to 50 Satoshi soon.
As for the staking, you can use this staking pool, it's very easy and you can stake 10 different coins: https://stakeunited.com/gawayn
I have already made 10% more coins in 3 days Smiley

1200% annual return is a crazy inflation rate.

Only a complete newbie will believe in that, not understanding how the market works.

All folks generating those huge amounts of coins will dump them immediately , dropping the price to zero!

If something appears to be to good to be true, then it probably is!

Remember that  Grin

I will find out and will let you know how it worked Wink

I have had my share with that, when I started a few years ago. The idea of hyperstaked coins is not new; take a look at HYP (750%) or TEK (400%). In the beginning everything looked great but then....

Good luck!
579  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Best low marketcap coins on: January 08, 2018, 09:24:33 AM
The best coins are PoS. Take a look at MINT and NOBL. Old projects with a lot of potential.
580  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum will overtake Bitcoin on: January 08, 2018, 09:22:42 AM
For now ETH is a solid competitor for BTC's dominance. Hopefully, the announced Metropolis fork will improve ETH's tech specs and will lay the foundations to move forward to the Casper PoS protocol.

If all goes well with both moves, in a couple of years, ETH will be incredibly more efficient than BTC.

The question is; what will BTC's devs do in the meantime? How many forks will BTC have in the future?
