I recommend watching the above Louis Theroux documentary which covers some coma victims. Most people don't wake up from comas, but surprisingly one does whilst they were shooting the episode even after the doctors had just told the family that he's basically not going to wake up.
582  Other / Meta / Re: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules - Work in progress on: August 01, 2014, 10:30:09 AM
This is great. I think the list should be vetted by forum administration and stickied.
I think that's intentional there is no comprehensive rulebook.
Why so?

No "official" set of rules was ever published, because if rules are set in stone, then people will come up with clever ways to bypass them, and then complain when a moderator takes action. This is however a very good thread to read to find out in general what you can and can't do. I do believe it should be stickied, but kept as "unofficial"

I can see your point but I think there should be some ground rules set down, otherwise it's really not fair on people when they have no warning. The rules can seem contradictory at times and some things by certain users seems to be permissible whilst not for others and their punishment seems like its down to the whim of the indivudal monderator or admin.
583  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-07-31] Overstock to Pay Employee Bonuses in Bitcoin on: July 31, 2014, 07:58:31 PM

Judd Bagley, a rep for Overstock, says the company is trying to figure out how to offer bitcoin bonuses by the end of the year. If an employee opts for such a bonus, they'll get a premium over what they'd get if they take cash instead, he said.

That's really great. They really seem to be pushing it out there which is great for promotion of bitcoin. I think if there's any bitcoin awards for Merchant or Business Person of the Year it should go to the Overstock CEO for sure.
584  Economy / Services / Re: 1 Bitcoin BOUNTY for info on Michael Moriarty. Owner of 50+ bitcoin sites. on: July 31, 2014, 04:32:55 PM
Am I missing something?

How does this guy in any way tie to Michael Moriarty?

Moriarty is the owner of the Bitcoin Network which consists of 50+ bitcoin sites.

I could be blind but I see no connections between the two

Help me out!

Yea I don't see any connection at all and if people are just throwing it out randomly then that's silly and detracts from the actual point here.

Of course, but that doesn't mean this is without risk nor is it a guarantee that you will be paid, but I'm sure everyone knows the risks with these deals by now.
586  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: July 31, 2014, 04:20:11 PM
Whether it's a huge risk or not is up to you, but he's only guaranteed the 5btc, and if he doesn't pay out for whatever reason those funds will be used to reimburse people, but they might not get what they were owed. I'm sure this wont happen but you never know.

I did read it but it's poorly worded and ambiguous, so don't deny you can't see why I got confused.

589  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-07-31] CT: Bitcoin's "Political Neutrality is a Myth" Amir Taaki interview on: July 31, 2014, 03:33:35 PM
I'm 50/50 on Amir. I think he's getting too consumed by his own anarchist ego.

Bitcoin is a shitty payments system. It is not meant for buying coffee at Starbucks. It is an economical tool to enable new forms of trade to thrive which extends further into the areas of resource management, decentralized law, and digital governance. We can use this to create the next generation of economic activity between humans, and organize on a local level much larger than ever before possible. We can find new ways to disempower banks, politicians, lawyers, police, judges and institutions.

I mean why is he saying stuff like that? Bitcoin isn't just for anarchists to get their jollies. It's for everyone. If someone wants to use it to buy coffee they should. If they want to buy drugs with it they should, and of course if anarchists want to use it to bring about a revolution; go for it, but don't make out it's for only one agenda.

I'm glad I waiting out Primedice for DiceBitco.in.  Finally something that was close to FXO.

What do you mean? I'm really surprised people are actually jumping ship just for that little bit extra. I'd rather stick with a time and tested deal at least for a month before moving over. I know the guy has put some money in escrow but 5 bitcoins wont last long and there could still be problems with payments etc.
591  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Assistance needed! on: July 31, 2014, 03:10:49 PM
Short answer: no. Mining on a laptop is pointless for pretty much any coin. It sounds like you don't know much about mining so I'd suggest spending a bit of time reading up on it. If you really want to mine try mine a new alt coin that you can trade for bitcoins, but I still wouldnt even attempt to do it on a laptop.
592  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to provide Escrow service? on: July 31, 2014, 03:08:56 PM
Danny Hamilton hits it on the head once again. Becoming an escrow is not something you can rush into or speed up but can only become one after you've put in the work over a very long time. I think the minimum amount of time would be a year, but like he and others have said you need to have done lots of successsful trades during that time.
593  Other / Off-topic / Re: New malware in Pen drives that hacks your computer! on: July 31, 2014, 03:05:20 PM
I think people will be ok with their standard usb sticks but you could reformat them before use just to be on the safe side.
594  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn Bitcoins Simply By Posting on: July 30, 2014, 06:37:43 PM
Nice to see some competition!
I'm waiting exited to see if Stunna make higher rates for next month.
If not I'm sure massive amount of people goes from this campaign to dicebitco.in.

I don't think stunna will higher the rates until at least one month confirmed payments, though I thought he was going to change to a fixed rate deal very shortly?
595  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: July 30, 2014, 06:06:32 PM
Interesting. How much is he willing to put into escrow? I hope he hasn't underestimated how much he will need. A lot of people are going to jump onto this deal since he's the highest paying and all the fixed rate deals are essentially closed.
596  Economy / Services / Re: escrow.ms's Free escrow service.[ ALT Coins escrow also available] on: July 30, 2014, 06:04:37 PM
He's probably busy. I imagine he gets a ridiculous amount of escrow requests as he's pretty much the most popular escrower on here especially since john left and he;s free to use. Give him some time to respond. Their are other trusted escrowers you can use though.
597  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2014-07-30 Gyft - Important Gyft Update on: July 30, 2014, 06:01:19 PM
I'm still waiting for them to start dealing with UK merchants. They said they would but there's been nothing so far. You can choose UK on their site but zero gift cards show up. Shame really as it's a great way to spend your coins without exchnages.
598  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wikimedia Foundation is now accepting Bitcoin donations on: July 30, 2014, 05:41:18 PM
I think it's great that charities and organizations like Wikipedia start accepting it as it really legitimizes it's use and helps to clean up it's media smeared image. I hope this gets some good media coverage.

We offer to rent your signature space and pay upfront weekly. This is a limited offer.

Lunamine offer weekly payments and upfront so I can see the alure of joining them, but not sure about Pocketrocket. There has to be something that would make people join a new deal over an existing one that is ridiculously trusted.
600  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Facebook about to embrace Bitcoin? on: July 24, 2014, 07:27:56 PM
It would be great if the did start accepting bitcoin or integrated the technology somehow, but I just can't see it. Facebook is all about making money and I'm sure they'd much rather create their own coin or type of company to capitilise fully from it. At the moment I don't think they could make much money just from bitcoin.
