More conspiratorial theories say bitcoin’s destiny is to replace banks, and banks fear the competition.

Well if they are fearing it it is because it's direct competition, but I don't think they're too worried or will be any time soon. Even if bitcoin becomes global people will still need banks or some of the services they provide. They will have to adapt and move with the times though.

What 'level of understanding' does a person need? I know the bare bones of how it works and functions but do not understand the specifics of the code. Would this be enough?
603  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: SELL or BUY your Bitcointalk account HERE. on: July 24, 2014, 07:15:57 PM
May I know why people buying account here,
what is the benefit of older account.

The main reason is to join signature deals as you need a higher ranking account to join them. And you see that 6 minute wait you have between each post? Well higher accounts such as mine don't have it.

I'm not sure if 'destroying' all existing financial services is a good idea, but slowly phasing them out or they learning to adapt to the bitcoin technology is. I think they will have to adopt them to sruvive eventually but it should be a gradual and smoothe process.
605  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dell.com now accepts bitcoin! on: July 18, 2014, 05:36:30 PM
Are they gonna keep a part of bitcoins they receive or are they going to dump them all for $$?

I assume the latter... just a retoric question.

ilpirata79

Well they'll probably just get the fiat value from coinbase, though it's not impossible to keep some btc as that's what Overstock do. Regardless it's still great news for bitcoin whether they do or don't.

607  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What has the Bitcoin Foundation funded? on: July 11, 2014, 10:21:25 AM
You're right. An organisation like this could easily be infiltrated when you can buy your way in pretty easily. IT could easily be taken over by some nefarious people or entity for their own benefit, specially if they have enough money.
608  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Quotes on Bitcoin on: July 11, 2014, 10:17:22 AM
I like some of the negative ones that the naysayers say as well. Like the people who said it would never be worth anything or will work, kinda like what some people said about the internet lol.
609  Other / Meta / Re: Get Donator status by donating 10 BTC on: July 11, 2014, 10:14:58 AM
But the 10btc will always be worth 10btc and that's the price it is to donate. I think maybe some other donator ranks could be implemented, but it's not essential. I don't think people would want to donate big accounts now just incase bitcoin rises again lol.

613  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: OpenBazaar - decentralized eBay on: June 23, 2014, 06:52:45 PM
I like the concept. I think the more things that become decentralised the better. It's the greedy fees that corporations take that will kill them in the end.
614  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcointalk.com on: June 23, 2014, 06:48:27 PM
The link is removed for being suspicious so that's definitely not a good sign. Maybe it's a phishing site?

Just saw The Lego Movie as imdb give it 8, 97% on rotten, and ended up falling asleep a few times. Yea, CG idea to use lego is definitely fresh, but the plot is meh, only kids would enjoy it.

I keep hearing great things about it, especially people saying it's not just a kids movie and there's humour for adults in there. I myself am sceptical though.

I will be skipping this one. My son watches the advert for it on YouTube on the iPad sometimes cos he likes the music and it drives me crazy!
