thanks ckolivas.
Will try it after i hear some feedback from early adopters. my units are running quite well now.. but on automatic restart of cgminer and entire unit in cron..

So it hasn't been an hour since my last post (and last power cycle of my 4 module avalon) and here I am with the 120ghs avalon mining away at 5ghs. WTF is wrong with these things?

I'd be better off with 400 Block Eruptors.

are they cool enough? they shut off if overheated.. try setting 340 as frequency instead of 375..

just buy direct from avalon? 500pcs 12 btc in stock.

dns?

All four of my miners are using 8.8.8.8 as the DNS entry. Only one of them would not connect and mine about 90% of the time.

I've decided to NOT use that bad miners controller and just plugged the two modules into another Avalon.

sounds like this is your problem. put dns as your router ip. or try 8.8.8.8as dns on a compuer and see how well it connects to websites. (pinging ips will work)

Hey!
Just all of a sudden, my wifi miners (who are on 2 separate locations) suddenly stopped mining on eligius and moved to secondary bitparking automatically. Am i smoking or how in the world can this happend? All Lan miners still work on eligius and did not switch pool (so it cannot be routing by the isp is down to reach your pool).
67  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: November 13, 2013, 09:42:32 AM
Why is my miner losing connection? I have only had it a couple of days and haven't tampered with the hardware. Sometimes when I come home after college my miner has stopped mining and the orange light is on, so it is losing connection, yet my internet has been on the whole time. Can anybody help? Thanks.
~AvalonMiner
p.s. My miner is an AvalonMini 60Gh.

I've been getting this also, mainly on my wifi units. when connection is around 40% it tends to disconnect from wifi for some reason. If you cannot boost the signal, i suggest you restart the unit every 5-6 hours using the scheduled tasks (look in my old posts to find info how). Ofcourse, putting it on a cable connection is MUCH more reliable.
cgminer i keep restarting every 3 hours to keep hashrate on top.
Also, if its not in a very cool area, i would remove the 375mhz freq, put it on a more solid 340mhz and change it to --avalon-auto, this will keep the unit more cooler, and can help your tp-link wifi/network-card to not overheat due to exhaust air flowing over it..

It looks like you have some charring on the board in the picture, to the top left of the electrolytic cap that's reflecting the flash. Does that module mine at all?

that one burned out, i had to remove the plug of that board to the controller so that no power passes through it. otherwise the device doesnt power up at all.

you should be able to remove the hasboard alone with only 10chips less as a result.

Where is the official place to buy an Avalon?

70  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: November 12, 2013, 05:07:04 AM

When you connect your PC into the Avalon, are you giving your PC an IP address on the same subnet that your Avalon had?

Did you initially set up your Avalon on a DHCP or static IP address?

When you plug your PC into the wall were your Avalon will plug into in the new spot can you get onto the internet and surf websites?

I'll answer as I was asked.

Yes, the Avalon and the PC are on the same subnet. PC's address is 192.168.1.xxx and the Avalon is 192.168.1.206.

I've tried to configure the Avalon in both Static and DHCP. When in DHCP it moves to 192.168.1.12 (I made a copy of the MAC address so I could follow it though my router if it moved).

Yes, the PC can browse the internet just fine. There are three other Avalons that are connected to the same hub/switch as this one. They all work as advertised. I even tried moving network cables and ports on the switch and only this Avalon fails.

I think my bigger issue now is that CGMiner is missing from the Avalon in question. Or at least it looks like it is.

Anyone know how to telnet into these things? Is that even possible?

dns?
71  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Open Source Avalon Gen2 55nm Board on: November 11, 2013, 01:25:42 PM

design boards that fit in standard avalon casing! so we can scrap the old cards and get 4x80x1.5GH per unit.

That sounds interesting, but unfortunately i don't own such a avalon case. It would be helpful when someone who has one, tells me the exactly dimentions of the board, heatink positions, etc. and can provide some detailed photos.

It should be readily available for avalon gen 1. there all designs are public in their github.
https://github.com/BitSyncom/avalon-ref

I believe its the controller that avalon uses , since the avalon 1-2-3 units have up to 320 chips have to be quite advanced?
Im not sure, this is things i have heard.

PS: The WHOIS is not the right one. MONIKER is a Domain Privacy-Service do secure your personal data at Whois-Searches.

Correct. But Whois services are not anonymous. If you write them an email informing them of interest of filing a lawsuit against the owner, most of the times they hand out the ownership information. I have done it many times successfully. Its hidden, but not anonymous by any means.
73  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: November 11, 2013, 10:37:39 AM
€400 for a board hashing 25GH? plus vat? I cannot take part then.  around 1BTC i'd pay for 25GH board, but even that is steep, as it is readily available at that price (though at higher power consumption).
25GH/s? Where did you get this number from? AFAIK the "BitBurner Fury" boards are hashing at ~50GH/s.

Aha, stellar then.. but 2btc has to be max for 50gh. (inc vat)

Summary:
#3462 BenTuras 25-30
#3463 Sophokles 10
#3464 shapemaker 28
#3466 trictors 2
#3469 shep80 10
#3472 AniceInovation 24
#3474 vanycon 1-2

100-106 boards!
1600 chips.

Burnin, how are we doing so far ?

i'd be in for 6 boards at suggested prices.

New (no trade in) orders for 100 Boards would be enough to get started.
My reasonable price would be ~400eur + VAT.
Production timing needs to be evaluated, first estimate is 2 to 3 weeks.

Shipping out all the avalon order took vast amounts of time, one reason why
i originally intended to part with the end-user business.
I am thinking about a minimum qty of 8 Boards, that would decrease the number of packets i have to ship considerably.

I'll do the math on the trade ins.

Hey all.

I've totally managed to confuse myself. I just received 4 60gh avalons and I cant get them to mine. I had one of them running just fine but then I unplugged it to move it to its final location and it wont mine now. I'm getting "connection refused" in the cgminer status page.

I'm assuming this might mean I need to update the firmware but I dont know which file to chose and I really done want to brick any of these things.

They were purchased from Avalon 2 weeks ago so I would assume that the firmware is relatively new, no?

Maybe I'm missing something?? I've read this thread (various pages) but am not seeing any help.

Any ideas?

Thanks all!

its not online. get it off wifi and put it on lan to save you some reliability.
77  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: November 08, 2013, 12:39:13 PM
are there any cron job pro's in this thread? i was thinking of every ten hours, pause cgminer for 5 minutes. just to let fans cool the chips off completely.. (to save hardware and preventing house from burning up from non-CE compliant hardware).
Ideas? i'll ask some sysadmins i know, or dust off my old skills if no answer.

Break for 1 minute, every three hours:
0 */3 * * * /etc/init.d/cgminer stop
1 */3 * * * /etc/init.d/cgminer start

(if you like longer pauses, do every 10 hours maybe, you can do both:)
0 */10 * * * /etc/init.d/cgminer stop
5 */10 * * * /etc/init.d/cgminer start

The exhaust fan grill, i would like to know its dimension! could you measure it for me? i will connect a aluminium hose to direct hot air outside, mine are overheating..

the plated area is 15cm wide and 14cm tall, hope that helps. let me know if you need other measurements!

Thanks. hm, thats big! Smiley
79  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: November 08, 2013, 08:45:05 AM

here is the side view for a better look, whats this component? what does it mean when these things burn up? can i replace it and get this module running again?

any help is greatly appreciated!

thanks.

Just unscrew the top heatsink covering the two modules.
Unplug your broken module. it will start running again with 10 less chips unless something else burned.

Could you measure the exhaust pipe for me please?

ok let me try, thanks man! is there a way to repair that particular part tho? or too hard?
whats exhaust pipe?

one board is 10x375Mhz. 3.75GH, is it worth it? Smiley
