61  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Super-fast access to 'offline' coins. on: August 24, 2012, 02:57:59 AM
I really like the sound of this, but perhaps behind some kind of "advanced settings" type dialog. It would give the user a "feel good" experience, kind of like when large buildings have user-adjustable thermostats that are not actually connected to the air conditioning equipment.

FYI, opendns.com still has eclipsemc.com listed as a botnet.
I use OpenDNS and have not had any issues.

Mr. Gorbachev....

Hey, that's a staircase.
64  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Japanese getting into Bitcoin? on: August 23, 2012, 08:50:03 PM
Just wait until a few more days,  you are going to see  A LOT more Japanese getting on board.

What exactly is going to happen in the next few days that will make more Japanese people get on board?

The fact that you can now buy Geiger counters with Bitcoin?

...too soon?  Grin
Ah I heard about the project - yay for Bitcoin as a payment system!
65  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Cryptobuy - New BTC Only Business on: August 23, 2012, 08:32:09 PM
Just got half of my order (single flame lighter) - it seems to be of reasonably good quality with a capacious fluid tank and reliable fast ignition. Just awaiting the 30mw laser and hoping it is delivered soon.

Btw, the 30mw is a good size because it doesn't seem to be as dangerous as the 100+mw units that burn things, but also is more powerful than the usual 5mw units. My planned applicaiton for this unit is for a presentation pointer that works at very long distances and that is very visible to audience members far away. I'll need to test it though and make sure it won't burn my screen (it shouldn't).
I forgot to post when I got my laser, it was a few days ago - this thing is nice and bright! Great for star pointing. Obviously, it isn't smart to look at the reflections from it, but it won't start burning things at random like something more powerful might.
66  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: Do you use first-class messaging? on: August 23, 2012, 07:50:49 PM
The only reason it looks useful is because of the Verify option - or is that because you used a more recent code base than is stable? Maybe because it's exclusive to Linux? in any case, I want that Verify option in my client.
67  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Tx fees going up. What is zero fee mining? What is fair pay? on: August 23, 2012, 07:46:55 PM
https://en.bitcoin.it/w/images/en/e/e3/Total_bitcoins_over_time_graph.png

So by 2029 when each block only rewards ~1.5 BTC, TX fees will make up most of the incentive to continue mining?
Maybe. Or perhaps the exchange rate will be $100/BTC!
68  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Your opinion on MNW's motivation to bet 10,000 BTC (one post per forum member) on: August 23, 2012, 04:44:11 PM
I hereby use up my one allocated post per forum member in this thread. Thanks for all the fish.

99% of your money is in a bank account.
Pirate? Fail. Of course it isn't.
70  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cheapest exchange for $ to BTC? on: August 23, 2012, 03:32:52 PM
I get that... but why the 0.1% rebate?
Because you are providing liquidity to the exchange.
71  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pirate is going to build a Tesla Science Center! on: August 23, 2012, 02:59:58 PM
Tesla was the man! However, his system would have rendered radios unusable and there is no practical way to meter the energy broadcast.

You think that they would be unable to find a way to meter wireless energy consumption?

I should have used the word "was" rather than "is". Today we would establish a computer connection to meter the energy. At the time the technology was more like radio. So just like radio, the station has no idea who is listening or even how many are listening. This was not an issue for Tesla, he believed in free energy for the masses. if I remember correctly he was a communist.
If I remember correctly, that was the reason the project got upended in the first place - the investors that were backing it didn't realize that they wouldn't be getting anything out of it because the power couldn't be metered or regulated. But they only found that out after the construction of the tower, so they scrapped it.
72  Other / Off-topic / Re: Pirate's been busy. Suppressing talk takes time. on: August 23, 2012, 01:34:15 PM
He's had ops since like November, because other ops weren't always available to kick out scammers and trolls. And believe me, if you haven't ever been to #bitcoin-otc for real (by which I mean more than one day) it gets A SHITLOAD of scammers.

And whoever mentioned in another thread that they were surprised at the goings-on in that channel, and thought that it was usually civilized or someshit, no - it can get pretty ugly:

WOO HOO new retail stores!! I want a starbucks and an Olive Garden there!  I can donate a CAT SEM650 to help get rid the that foundation left by that bum Tesla.
Tesla ? What did he ever do but EPIC FAIL at wardenclyffe? LOL   Tesla's million-dollar folly on a polluted lot (sure its cleaned up fully. Sure.) for only $1.6mil, what a deal.
It's too bad you're so stupid or misinformed.  Cry

77  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: PAY BTC / HASH KING pirate account on: August 22, 2012, 07:20:12 PM
Oh look, it's the guy that puts high-dollar items up for sale, and then mysteriously sells them within a month, usually within a week, and never gets any feedback from the buyers who have supposedly purchased whatever is for sale. Positive or negative. And never any transaction IDs, and no escrow allowed.

Of course, when someone actually does buy and post feedback from a non-sockpuppet account, it has never been positive. I don't even know why you try, you antisocial ignorant fool.
78  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will ASIC mining destroy Bitcoin? on: August 22, 2012, 07:00:52 PM
I don't know anyone besides BFL who is making a legitimate effort towards developing a Bitcoin mining ASIC then.  Anyone else know of someone?
friedcat with Block Erupter is raising funds and is working on analog design, last I heard. There is also OpenBitASIC, but I haven't heard anything from them recently. Jason hasn't been on the forum for a while.
79  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: #BTCST Updates. Latest: August 22th 1:55PM EST on: August 22, 2012, 06:48:27 PM
That's a statement of withdrawal. Is there even any indication that the money really ended up in bitminterN8's wallet?

Also, following the trail from bitminterN8s initial deposit into pirate's Big Bitcoin Washing Saloon is hilarious. So many turns in so many washing machines. It's like Rollercoaster Tycoon, but with Bitcoin.
Which is odd, because as far as I know, Pirate has never bothered to obfuscate his payments.
80  Other / Off-topic / Re: Who here watches My Little Pony? on: August 22, 2012, 06:43:13 PM
This is the last place I expected to see/hear about Bronys.
Note that it is a geek forum and that the topic is in the "Off-Topic" section. You could probably do the same thing elsewhere.
