The problem is that most people are stupid and can't think critically.

It's worse than that. I have found that most people can not think abstractly. As soon as I attempt to use abstract reasoning normal people accuse me of changing the subject...

Yeah, because your abstractness transcends into such high levels that no one simple mortal understands your unique brilliance... hahahahahaha.. Go figure?   Roll Eyes

eh, i've encountered such people as well... "how the hell did you do that!?" ...i thought about it for a second or two. recent example was something related to the voyager spacecraft and how they'll likely never actually encounter anything because space is so fucking huge and the golden records on them are, therefore, totally pointless. this was in a comment thread about said records, so it was perfectly topical.

Remember the good ol' days when this was the place to find out wtf was happening with the price?

I remember those days. Something I have wondered and I've been meaning to ask, what happened to that wall observer bot? The one that would post the depth chart every few hours? It appears to be gone completely.

RichieT did a rage quit with his Chartbuddy about 2 years ago.  He got all BIG blocker nutjobie, and at that time concluded (and still seems to hold such sentiments) that theymos was censoring his feelings too much, and he was going to take his marbles...

You or anyone else with the possible skills who wants to could program a chartbuddy, and I am sure that anyone would receive a lot of positive praise for such proactivity.. likely merits, but maybe if the bot performed well, even a few folks would donate some token amounts of BTC (no guarantees, of course)?

yea, i miss the old chart buddy,...

he was nice.

Sorry guys but we neither give assistance about lost coins nor, especially, give assistance if those lost coins are bcash. Please bring to roger's forum. Or try the altcoin section

Ive been part of this thread for years and know there are some knowledgeable people here. The only reason i was even touching the cash was to convert it to BTC.

Again, help will not be unrewarded.

EDIT: As i was typing the TX ID the balance is back up. Phew.

What are the reasons that would happen with BTC or BCH in electrum? Ive never seen the full total leave before coming back later

best guess, and it's definitely a guess, really, really slow transaction processing.

But space mining is real and inevitable because planet earth has only finite resources

Our needs are finite also.

if only we acted like that...
65  Other / Off-topic / Re: Wall Observer - Off-Topic Discussion Thread on: May 24, 2018, 02:22:27 AM
good luck with that.

again, you're acting like all things marx related - no matter how small - are inherently evil. but there are multiple countries, as i already pointed out ,that have various socialist systems, democractic ones and under royal authority as well, depending. russian style soviet rule? oh yea. bad. sure. universal healthcare and reasonable corporate regulation, like living wages? eh, i don't see it.

Media is a great psychological tool.

Used very well in early print days to provide a narrative - WAR, Stockpiling etc
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/may/21/sweden-distributes-be-prepared-for-war-cyber-terror-attack-leaflet-to-every-home

creates a new economy

You could create anything

1) A revolution against your monarchy Russia 1917
2) A war in Europe - USA 1917
3) A new state - Israel - Balfour declaration 1917
4) A European Nation (Council) Versailles treaty 1918

and on and on

all very true.

Going to see the new star wars today mat the force be with me down there

You do realize the people who make that garbage are openly admitting to have a SJW agenda at this point? Right? They publicly rant and rave about it on twitter. One of them even said one of the main characters is a "pan-sexual". You couldn't pay me to partake of that tripe.

eh, so what? doctor who had an "omni sexual" character years ago.

also, who cares what a character's sexuality is? is he an interesting, fully developed character wor a paper cutout? dreams, aspirations, etc... that's what matters about a character.

also, light sabers and the force and such. yay.

but seriously - if you don't like it, ok. don't watch it. no big deal. hell, i haven't seen it. but why care if someone else is going? you know full well how hollywood and disney view things. the audience won't change them unless, en masse, we rejected them, which you also know isn't going to happen, as the majority of society is relatively accepting and more inclined to live and let live, for better or worse as it may be.
Because communism killed at least 150 million people in the 20th century, and we are heading the same way again.

...wow, that's... quite a leap. from star wars to 105 million dead, i mean. but, you're not entirely wrong in the "heading that way" aspect, sort of. not so much communism and stalin style, as socialism, like what is seen in multiple Scandinavian countries, and seems to do quite well for all involved, though not living there i could obviously be wrong.

also, should we talk about how many capitalism has killed? harder to define, certainly, but not zero. a friend lost his mother last year, as needed medical procedures weren't covered.someone, somewhere, literally decided she wasn't worth the money. that's... not a good system.
Leftism is marxism. A movie is a small thing, but by spending money on it you support it.

Capitalism is the reason you can complain about it to a stranger halfway across the planet through a magical typewriter connected to a global communication network.

again, you're acting like all things marx related - no matter how small - are inherently evil. but there are multiple countries, as i already pointed out ,that have various socialist systems, democractic ones and under royal authority as well, depending. russian style soviet rule? oh yea. bad. sure. universal healthcare and reasonable corporate regulation, like living wages? eh, i don't see it.

I'm not about to go on a crusade but if I can convince one person not to give his money to rabid ideologues who are trying to destroy our society than that is better than nothing.

RABBId ideologues, you mean?
I'm sure the producers are joos. They all are.

You could open a nice thread with a few other WO participants. An echo chamber. Not as good a gas chamber, I know, but we all have to make do with what we have.
Dude we really need to find another solution to the jewish question other than gassing the jews, because if we do not then we will end up gassing the jews again.

i'm sure i'm not alone when i ask this, but who knows: what jewish question would that be? i've know a few people who were or are jewish. they... had no differences, economic or otherwise, between them and anyone else, that i could discern anyway. it only came up on religious specific holidays, same as a muslim or even a jehovah's witness did. the fact they were jewish was basically irrelevant. they still have to get jobs, pay bills, eat food. no one is handing them a check just cause they're jewish.

fair enough.

though, you realize, the majority (at least state side) generally agrees with hollywood, right? i mean, not to extremes of 70 genders and whatnot, but gay rights are good, guns are bad, etc. thus, they've effectively already changed society, they're not just trying to. they're the front of the changing tide.

mind you, i am not stating that this is a good thing or a bad thing, it just IS a thing. it's how things ARE, regardless of our opinions. by all means, work for change you'd like to see. everyone should. just recognize that sometimes you're in a minority. as i think is the case with star wars and disney. again, for better or worse.

71  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's add up the KNOWN lost bitcoins on: May 23, 2018, 04:34:57 PM
Thought this might make for an interesting thread...

If you've lost bitcoins (i.e. they're gone forever, completely unrecoverable), post how much you lost, and add it to the running tally.  Right now, the running tally is 0BTC, since I haven't lost any bitcoins.

I recently read a thread about someone losing 0.000001 BTC, and someone else losing 20 BTC.

So person one would write:
+ 0.00001 BTC
= 0.00001 BTC

Person two would write:
+ 20 BTC
= 20.0001 BTC

Etc, etc.  That way we don't have to run through pages and pages of thread to figure out what the running tally of lost bitcoins is.

Make sense?  Good.  Do it.

Starting lost BTC balance:  0.0000000 BTC
I was scammed ~500btc back in 2011 when the whole forum was still naive to scams, last year got scammed a bunch more on LBC due to bank reversals

you don't have the coins, but SOMEONE does. not the point of this thread.

Can we talk about doom and gloom yet?

You should considering buying more Bitcoin before doom happens.

what's this credit cycle referred to in the image?

edit: i found it. supposed to be total industrial credit and loans as a percentage of US GDP.

...is this chart suggesting we're about to hit another recession, when, in the opinion of most of my friends we never recovered from the last one? oh joy.

mind you, "we" basically means "me" in this case, as in the friend or friends in question were in a better place financially before the 2008 housing bubble and have yet to return to solid footing. heck, i sure was.

Hmmm,

I wonder if filling this thing with hydrogen was really the best idea.

well, helium was just too damn expensive, and in limited supply as well. it'll be fine!

I feel like there is a joke in here somewhere.

yea, there's gotta be... but i can't parse it.

Not much Canadian action on localbitcoins today. Everyone is cautious.

wtf? This is... REALLY bad!
Military elite getting off to "Slaughterbots" while US poverty soars.

what, you actually thought those wouldn't be developed at the first opportunity? i mean, sure, we've had philosophical debates, stories, warnings and so forth about that idea for decades, if not centuries, but i'm sure these people think they know what they're doing when giving a machine the ability to choose who to kill, when, and how.

just because they're almost incomprehensibly WRONG doesn't mean there's any reason not to go for it!

Roach, please, we got it. It's the Jews! Its' always been them. Can we please move along?
thanks

the only way that  demented nutcase will be cease endlessly repeating his perpetual nazi anti-jew, silver worshipping drivel in here
is if/when...
1. he eventually dies
2. bitcoin and/or this thread dies or
3. he gets banned .

my bet is on  option 1
so unless you ignore ...better get used to it....

The hatred and advocacy of genocide is the evidence of his borderline insane, definitely sociopathic turmoil.  He's been a staple of this thread for years - yet he constantly rants irrationally anti-bitcoin opinions (despite accepting crypto income on his blogs elsewhere).

So, he will die alone I am sure - his level of hateful antisocial and frequently misogynistic bile is only matched by his disgusting advocacy of simply killing millions of people he racially disapproves of. Oh, and he's an open apologist for a certain Mr. Hitler. Who could live with that?

I have him on ignore and anyone who quotes him casually or otherwise is similarly treated.  Mostly because I am appalled by people who are not as offended as they (IMHO) reasonably should be. I have been to Auschwitz/Birkenau, seen the 'banality of evil' - I know how I feel and I feel strongly it's important to fight and speak out against this toxic, dangerous and increasingly normalised shit. The 1930's was not that long ago, right?

Why do I care?  I care because this thread (with his posts tolerated) must look pretty shocking to anyone checking Bitcoin and its advocates out.  It is arguably the most important thread in the Bitcoin world, and the lack of objection, lack of challenges; of freezing out - means we are culpable and liable to be tarred because of the company we seem to keep and apparently (largely) tolerate.

OK - free speech is to be defended, I subscribe to Voltaire's dictum, so he has the right to speak.  But that means people here have the right - arguably the duty... to speak up and object when someone is quite plainly a total narcissistic, hateful, deranged fascist cunt.  Please let's prove you don't have to be racist to be into Bitcoin?

I hope I am part of the (silent) majority here, and not the minority. I trust I am not hoping in vain.

'and then they came for me'...

i have, i think, only one person on this forum ignored. it's roach. but yea, i'd have banned him ages ago.

Governments are not the people. Nation states are horrible. Stalin could never have existed in a municipality.

Jay, stop trolling.

I think everybody is on drugs tonight. Is it?

never touch the stuff.

i rarely have anything useful to contribute.
