Wow, I didn't realize that me pointing out a possible flaw in one of Tecshare's analogies was going to cause such a stir. I'll be making the needed adjustments.

I don't know. I wouldn't consider John Kerry, Walter Mondale nor Jimmy Carter "pretty boys" at all. They did all lose, although Jimmy won the 1st time against the Nixon pardoning klutz Gerald Ford.

Carter was president long before I had any interest in politics, but I remember my dad (who was pretty conservative) being somewhat supportive of him.  I think he appealed to wide range of people due to his humble peanut farming roots and all.  Then there was the Gerald Ford factor...  At least Carter had some hair, so he was definitely prettier.

What about that dude who invented the internets?  He sure was prettier than Dubbaya, at least by my uninitiated perspective.

I couldn't vote when Carter was running. However, I got my picture in the paper because I was at the Republican rally on voting day in 1980 and the caption under the picture read something to the effect of "the littlest Republican."  Cheesy
Also, I think Gore would probably be considered good looking to more people than not. However, he had the personality of a stiff board. IMHO.

I'm really not kidding about what I said. The absolutely least appealing to young people, physically, voice patterns, appearance, gestures... least appealing personal imaginable would be in my opinion, Sanders.

Democrats thrive by pushing the "pretty boy." Kennedy, Obama, etc etc.

That would mean most Democrats superficial and prejudiced wouldn't it?

Don’t feed the troll bones, he’s just looking for a reaction. Everybody knows you’re a highly trusted, respected member of the community.

Losers like that need to get a life. Seriously it’s not worth the time it takes you to respond.

You are probably right. I deleted my newest response. However, when a particular troll's user name is somewhat similar to mine, it's hard not to take notice. My last name isn't Jones, though. Cheesy
65  Other / Meta / Re: Forum merit system on: March 07, 2020, 06:58:35 PM
WO thread is the tip of the iceberg. Merit is the most dangerous and damaging thing ever introduced to this forum.
It's design, as a member previously mentioned is  very similar to fiat that powers the central banking system.
Source, by trading or cycling merits with other sources and their close allies who vote each other on to Default Trust, control the eligibility of members to generate revenue here and therefore control their free speech.
There could be tweaks to mitigate the negative impact of merit. Those have been ignored and further destructive power given to the merit metric over time.

The results are as you would expect. Merit sources and mates stacked with merit, entrenched  in default trust wearing the highest paying signatures. Other members kissing up supporting their every word not daring to step out of line dreaming of their chip mixer day in the sun. On route to one large echo chamber

Don't expect any support for moving towards a useful fair and sensible distribution of merits in meta. This is the nest of the vipers. Their power and advantage would dissipate almost immediately if the playing field was made level.

WO sees a crazy amount of merits cycled for memes and garbage. One could go there and play human centipede between Bob and bones261.  You first mate. I'll enjoy my red tags and no merits if you won't mind.

Hey look bud, I've distributed my merits in a whole lot more places than the WO board. Stop busting my chops. I never asked to become a merit source. It was granted to me. All this fucking volunteer work that I have done for this forum and I have to sit here and read vitriol from the likes of you. Since you mentioned that you enjoy your red tags, I won't be giving you any.  Kiss I'd consider giving you a shitload of merit just to spite you. However, I am fresh out. Therefore, as far as I'm concerned, you can just go fuck off.
66  Other / Meta / Re: Forum merit system on: March 07, 2020, 05:43:59 PM

One person's garbage is another person's treasure. If the WO regulars want to merit pictures of big green dildos and scantily clad women, that's their prerogative. The only time the administration got involved is when a merit source staged a merit giveaway. The only requirement was to be one of the first few people to post anything in the WO thread. That merit source had his privilege taken away.

Maybe it should also be noted that he was sending it in huge lots of 25/50 (IIRC) merits for each single post. And, AFAIK, even that was not considered abuse (there were clearly no ill intention or collusion), but Theymos just decided that it was not appropriate usage of the sourced merits.
Yes, it really wasn't abuse. He just wanted to distribute a whole bunch of source merits in a hurry and get them off his plate. I can definitely understand. I myself took a break for a few months from the forum. I came back to discover that my source merit allowance was increased. I compensated by increasing the amount of merits that I gave out per post. However, it appears that the number that I was using was too big, because I've been out of source merit for quite a few days and am now fresh out of smerit, too. No worries, though. The source merit should start to be replenished in a couple of days. I'm definitely not going to beg theymos to increase my allotment.  Smiley

The merit system was implemented by the forum mod in other to force and increase post quality by this forum users which is the reason why some campaign managers also included it as one of the major requirements when selecting campaign participants. But merit misuse is so many these days especially in the Wall Observer BTC/USD (Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion) and some local thread where people would post absolutely nothing worth to be merited.

Note : I understand that I'm not the first person to complain about merit been abused. But
the question is, what are the forum mods doing about all this?

This is an interesting change of heart:
Quote
Trust list for: Thule (Trust: +0 / =2 / -11) (25 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP) (created 2020-03-07_Sat_06.19h)
Back to index

Thule Trusts these users' judgement:
10. Removed bones261 (Trust: +3 / =0 / -0) (DT1! (15) 749 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP)
10. Removed LoyceV (Trust: +26 / =2 / -0) (DT1! (58) 4908 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP)
10. Removed marlboroza (Trust: +12 / =1 / -1) (1384 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP)

Thule Distrusts these users' judgement:
14. NEW ~bones261 (Trust: +3 / =0 / -0) (DT1! (15) 749 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP)
15. NEW ~LoyceV (Trust: +26 / =2 / -0) (DT1! (58) 4908 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP)
19. NEW ~marlboroza (Trust: +12 / =1 / -1) (1384 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP)

Well, the good news is that I am no longer a trust list backstabber when it comes to Thule.

I guess I just dox’ed the entire forum.

Can you identify even one forum member from that photograph?
I know that nearly all forum members are in that picture. I am not sure if we have any astronaut forum members, so I don’t if if all of them are in that picture.

Since your picture is only of most of the Western Hemisphere, their are many users who are left out. Perhaps you should use an animated gif that rotates the Earth. Also, if people were inside, where they would be covered from view of the camera in space, they wouldn't be doxed, either.

Well, I'm not sure if setting up a dubious web page wanting to gather donations for a certain charity constitutes rock solid evidence for theft; however, if that particular user ever admits that is a picture of him, then his new account will be banned because that particular person has been permanently banned from the forum. BTW, the original user posted a link to the web page gathering donations (now deleted) and you can find the link to that picture of the founder, there. Need more info? DYOR by starting with this thread. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5194247.0
Also, I doubt the picture is really the person behind the dubious web page. If it is, either the webpage is 100% legit or the potential scammer is a complete idiot.

It is.  He doxxed himself: https://humanrights.foundation/founder.html

Thanks for trying to convince him he could get me banned from the forum TECSHARE.

After doing more of my own research, I see Theymos himself opened up an investigation thread on this guy. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5179710.0 Well, his new incarnation was nuked and you are still here. Hopefully, Tecshare won't open up a new thread wondering why his post was deleted. The answer: The OP of that thread was nuked. Nothing personal.
71  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking Clarification On Doxing Rule on: March 06, 2020, 01:14:46 AM
I got that impression, but it was not explicitly mentioned so I figured it would be good to ask. To be clear I am not planning to dox anyone, I find it to be a repugnant act unless there is rock solid evidence of theft. Even then, it may be questionable under certain circumstances.

Elizabeth Warren HAS NOW DROPPED OUT OF THE PRIMARY. Though she has not signaled for who she will endorse at this time. Both Biden and Sanders have spoken to her.

Well darn it. I was so looking forward to what quips she might belt out at the next debate. Now all we are going to get is too old men yelling at each other.  I doubt that they will even invite Tulsi, though she is still in it, right?

Anyone who gets disgusted at

old white haired men up

on silly clown stage...

Can vote orange hair.

The problem is that it will still be two old men yelling at each other, 3 more times, after the Democrats pick their nominee. Just because one guy dyes his hair orange doesn't make the display any more appealing.  Cheesy

The way things have been going I feel like the least likely scenario is Biden keeps his momentum and it's smooth sailing to the convention.

Let's wait until the next debate. If Warren stays with it, I'm sure she has a lot of nasty things to say about Biden. Perhaps Tulsi will get to participate too and join in the fun.

~snip

Bernie wins:  CO (not sure how they call it so early - only 20% counted)

Colorado mails everyone a ballot that you can mail in or drop off. (Must mail early because it has to arrive at election office to be counted before a certain time on election day. Post marks don't count. Although you can drop off at a drop off box until the last moment.) My ballot was mailed over 2 weeks ago. So they have had plenty of time to do "exit polling." Unfortunately for me, my candidate dropped out, and I can't change my vote.  Cry

Yeah I don't think it was supposed to be this bad, but at the end of the day -- a large majority of people were making the decision in who they were voting for in the final days, and with Pete and Amy dropping out it really saved Bidens campaign. I think the real way to prove if these last minute endorsements really did something is for all of us to watch Minnesota. Before Amy dropped out, the race was a two way race b/w Bernie and Amy, with Biden being FAR behind. If Biden is able to win or get the race very close in Minnesota -- it shows that the center lane clearing theory is working and these endorsements worked.
There were almost 60000 absentee ballots cast in Minnesota before Amy's announcement. https://www.mprnews.org/story/2020/03/02/klobuchars-exit-shows-a-downside-of-early-voting-in-minnesota  Amy might still win it.  Cheesy

I would start sweating all over, and start to feel queasy. Then I would start banging on my mouse and keyboard. I also may start giving my computer a few kicks. Furthermore, I also might throw something at the monitor. Then, assuming my computer is still operational, I would start Googling intensively for possible solutions. I'd definitely check reddit and Twitter to see if anyone has a solution to this dilemma. If I discover that bitcointalk will never be coming back, I shall withdraw to my bed and won't get out of it for weeks. Maybe sooner if my partner has the ambulance take me away to the nearest mental health facility.

78  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2020 Democrats on: March 02, 2020, 09:55:11 PM
Tomorrow is already Super Tuesday, and all these candidates who've dropped out yesterday and today will still have their names on the ballot.  Then there are all the absentee ballots that were cast weeks ago (like mine.)  What happens to the votes that are cast for candidates that have dropped out?

Yes, I'm in the same boat as you. I voted weeks ago with a mail in ballot and now my candidate jumped ship. So, I guess the remaining candidates will just have to go without those votes for Super Tuesday. I wonder if Minnesota had early voting. I think Biden could use many of those Klobuchar votes.

Edit: Didn't realize that DireWolfM14 was just asking a question. His candidate is still in the race, virtually unopposed.  Cheesy
79  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bernie Sanders is the Frontrunner for the Dems on: March 01, 2020, 11:39:11 PM
Biden got the win that he needed in South Carolina, and because of that the chances of a contested convention has went up substantially. Sanders is going to have the most delegates by the time the convention will come around, but as of right now he's not going to have the 50 percent needed to clinch the nomination.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2020-primary-forecast/

This is going to get very interesting very fast. There's a couple roads that we can go down here.

1. Bidens finish means nothing, Bernie is still going to crush it in Super Tuesday. This is Bernies best shot to getting over the 50 percent number, still going to be tough though.

2. Bidens finish makes the moderates rally around him. He's their last chance to winning and they rally around him to ensure that he's the nominee instead of Bernie. Bernie still gets the most delegates but not by much.

538 is a pretty good one to read though, very interesting.

I certainly hope it's option number two. Unfortunately, I already put my ballot in the mail a couple of weeks ago, so I can't participate in rallying around Biden. Oh well, it appears Sanders is going to take my state, anyway. I'm not sure what all these people with SUVs and monster trucks in my state are going to do if Bernie ends up becoming president and gets his way. At least most of them are spacious enough to live in, if need be.
80  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bernie Sanders is the Frontrunner for the Dems on: March 01, 2020, 03:28:00 AM
I've seen estimates from 1.75-3.5 trillion.

It appears Medicare and Medicaid already cost about 1.1 trillion. (I'm including the amount states pay for their various Medicaid programs, in addition to federal fund.) The 1.75 figure seems a bit on the low side, especially since Bernie seems to want to eliminate copays and deductiblse. Plus it would cover everybody, not just the disabled, elderly and poor. 3.5 trillion seems more like it. That is assuming that the program doesn't become infiltrated with corrupt politicians and officials dipping into the big till. However, I doubt that Bernie would get the bill to fit all of his wishes. I'm thinking he'll probably get some version of Medicare for all who want it, if the Republicans don't control the House and/or the Senate. That's a big if.
