Myrkul, you know I've never had any beef with you. But I'm curious, why are you so snarky? Why do you throw unnecessary words into a discussion like "numbnuts"? What are we, 7? It seems like you enjoy the act of arguing more than having a rational discussion. I admit, I've posted an occassional troll comment on the internet, including this forum. But your presentation of this thread doesn't suggest "comment here and let me troll you," but that's what's going on here. Now I remember why I avoid this subforum.
When the response to "Could you restate that so it makes sense" is "Read it out loud" it's clear the respondent is not being intellectually honest. They get exactly the respect they deserve, ie being called numbnuts.

The meaning of his sentence was clear, despite the mistakes.

Your reply also seemed dishonest to me. We both know how to read from context.

Again, this is childish:

"They get exactly the respect they deserve, ie being called numbnuts."

This is exactly what bratty children say. Are you aware of that?

Is peerbet provably discreet as well?

I think this is the only place in the world with a zero-sum lottery of $13,000+ dollars.

67  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Hashrate going down! on: December 10, 2012, 01:44:26 PM
One argument is that business (and governments?) with a stake in bitcoins success will buttress the network out of obligation. I think it's plausible... Paypal runs servers too. Then again, in the face of profit it must be tempting to defer the responsibility to someone else. We see that dynamic in the industrial sector all the time with regards to environmental hazards.
68  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Hashrate going down! on: December 10, 2012, 01:28:06 PM
My number one fear of bitcoin's future is that the hashrate decays relative to the minting rate. The market value of bitcoins must ultimately be high (how high?) in the long-term if bitcoin is to succeed.
69  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2012-12-09 Forbes.com - Bitcoin's Greatness Not Realized By Succumbing To Regul- on: December 10, 2012, 12:55:05 PM
Jon,

Generally I wholeheartedly agree with your articles. We share a common sentiment. However, I disagree with you in this instance. I think this is a big step in the right direction for bitcoin's big picture. Bitcoin is a slippery fish that "the law" will not be able to hold. To me, this event is more of an injection of bitcoin's potency than a neutering of it. Bitcoin will undoubtedly supercede banks and the laws that ground them.

More importantly, this could even be seen as a concession. Banks and goverments are beginning to catch on that the bitcoin is a force to be reckoned with. The financial status quo stands at a crossroads. Snuggle up to bitcoin or smother it. The status quo will be crushed regardless. This is bitcoin's rise to power.

I think I see now. But what would happen if two people send to the same address?

Also, optional email notifications would be a nice feature in the future, especially for big lotteries (like the ones I just made...).

Sorry Carlos, looks like you're out of luck Tongue
74  Economy / Gambling / Re: Peerbet.org - Play without house edge! on: December 10, 2012, 10:42:58 AM
Make it deposit-able, without creating accounts.

So I send 1 BTC to this address, it immediately queues for 1/2 for another player.
Make about 10 bet addresses, and have this on the front page.
Some players will see the 1/2 thing, and send there Bitcoin's there.

Make it that for some addresses its a set amount you can send.
And some it isn't. So one address a person may have 1 BTC in it.
And the limit to send is up to 10 BTC.

If I send 10 BTC, I take a 9/10 of winning 11 BTC and a 1/10 of him winning 10 BTC.
Etc etc etc.

This would further more increase your site popularity, and decrease or make the need
for making accounts unnecessary.

hmm, I disagree. I think having an account is a big hook. The stats tracking is really nice, and it makes depositing more straightforward. I feel like I'd have to read your idea more than once to understand, and maybe others would too. IMHO.

I know you've got a lot on your hands right now, but it would be awesome to see a live chat feed! This is too much fun. I need to stop while I'm playing with pennies.
