61  Other / Meta / Re: Could there be a "like button"? on: May 14, 2024, 10:02:52 AM
I am not at all surprised that from time to time someone asks such questions, because new people who come to the forum are obviously under the strong influence of social networks where "like" is something completely normal. Maybe it wouldn't even be a bad idea even on the forum, although it shouldn't be highlighted in any special way, it would just be an indicator that members like a post, and considering that sMerits are not available to everyone, maybe "like" button" would be small but useful addition to the forum. If we want to attract young people, we obviously have to give them some features that are obviously important to them.

~snip~
If you want to show gratitude, you can just quote the reply and say Thank you, it's done.

Quoting the entire post to just write "thank you" is a very bad idea in my opinion, especially if you do it several times in the same topic. It would be appropriate to make multiquotes of all the posts to which thanks refer and edit them - but we cannot expect such a way of communication from all members.

...so based on that we have to know that both cryptocurrency and the Fiat currency the work together but people especially government officials recognize Bitcoin but before 2040 I think that Bitcoin will be a legal tender for most of the countries that they youths in braces Bitcoin

You want to say that Bitcoin will be legal tender all over the world - and do you know what that even means? Do you really think that big and powerful countries like China, the US, the EU or the UK would accept Bitcoin in a way that equates it with their national currencies? I don't know what kind of fantasy you people live in, but the majority of people who own BTC don't use it as a currency anyway, so the question arises, why would countries start using it in such a way?

El Salvador is a country that at one point had to give up its national currency and start using the US dollar, and Bitcoin is just a continuation of that experiment.

@Bournesparks & @ELbeee your attempts to promote shitget are more than obvious to me, even if you try to mask everything in some kind of honest communication. When I see this way of communication, I wonder how bad the platform is that is promoted in this way?

I ask all forum members to pay attention to all accounts that mention Bitget in their posts and not to enter into a discussion with them.

You can see a similar attempt in this topic -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5494804.0
65  Economy / Economics / Re: Choosing Between the IMF, World Bank, or Direct Borrowing on: May 13, 2024, 10:32:06 AM
It would be best if no country had to get into the situation of borrowing money in ways that are not financially correct or under conditions that could have very negative consequences for the people living in that country. @stompix explained nicely what can happen when a country takes such a loan, and now it's just a question of how a government perceives such things and how much it cares about people's well-being in relation to its positions and the power generated by those same positions.

Such loans can be used for political blackmail and directing the country in the direction someone else wants, and we have seen many examples of how great powers first try to impose themselves politically, then economically, and finally, if they fail, sanctions or even military operations.

In the end, money is a means to achieve goals, whether it is to those who lend it, or to those who will use it to try to improve their economic situation.
66  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: I have been scammed. on: May 13, 2024, 10:10:09 AM
Forget licensed Windows. Load a Linux distro and use that to create a wallet. Tails comes with Electrum pre-installed. You'll probably never find out what was the malware, but this is Windows. You need antivirus and other crap that load in the background to, ultimately, get less protection than an open-source alternative.

I've been using it forever and with premium AV/firewall protection I've never had a problem with cryptocurrencies. Even if the OP used Linux, given that he is obviously involved in downloading pirated software and who knows what else, sooner or later he would have encountered some virus/malware that (albeit to a lesser extent) also exists for other OS.

What is weird is that your wallet was compromised the moment you turned off your antivirus. Was there a program running in the background, which was monitoring that all the time? We'll never know.

I already wrote that his AV probably stopped the download or installation of some malware, and the only way for the OP to start it was to turn off the AV. At that moment, he compromised his system, and it is easily possible that he is one of those who keeps his seed as a plain text document - which means that he served the hacker his coins on a silver platter.
67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Individual efforts and the progress of BTC on: May 13, 2024, 09:55:26 AM
~snip~
I am saying that many countries will continue to recognize bitcoin in the future as a result of individual efforts and concerted efforts. As a result of individual efforts, it is accepted as legal tender in "El Salvador". This is possible because of the efforts of "Nayib Bukele". So many may emerge in the future in an effort to have bitcoin accepted as legal tender by many more countries. I also know that it is capped at 21 million coins and 18.7 million of them have already been mined.
What do you think the overall situation could be if more countries recognize Bitcoin?

This is just one more in a series of topics that in some way glorify the figure and work of a man who allegedly did a big thing because he made Bitcoin "legal tender" in his country. This may seem like a big deal to a distant observer, but the fact is that the whole system is centralized (government Chivo wallets), and that Bitcoin, apart from the initial $30 to everyone who takes over the official wallet, has not achieved much in that country. In addition, everyone forgets that the US dollar is also legal tender in that country and that it is still the preferred method of payment in more than 80% of cases.

There are countries in the world where Bitcoin has a completely legal status without being legal tender, which only says that the whole story with El Salvador has convinced a lot of people that it is heaven on earth where everything can be paid with BTC, but the reality is actually much different.

In addition, we currently have 19.7 million BTC in circulation, and I don't know where you people are looking at the data when I have already seen many times that you reduce the actual number by 1 million BTC Huh
68  Other / Meta / Re: Warning against consecutive posts (SMF patch) on: May 13, 2024, 09:24:32 AM
Any change that can lead in a positive direction is welcome, although it is always a question of how much effect a warning can have for those who obviously do not read the rules or any other warnings that the forum shows them. Maybe that patch could also have some real preventive measure in the sense that it would disable "Posting multiple posts in a row" in a way that it would simply refuse to publish such posts?
69  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tesla may once again accept bitcoin payments whether this is capital snobbery or on: May 12, 2024, 03:26:37 PM
Bitcoin do not need Elon Musk Mr. Mars. We all know how he is a big time Bitcoin manipulator. And when he's company Tesla stop accepting Bitcoin it indeed affected the market price of Bitcoin. But we soon recovered and moved past that event.
~snip~

To be honest, Bitcoin never needed him, just like other similar people who are very rich, narcissistic and think the world revolves around them. The "problem" is that a lot of people have a very high opinion of such people just because they are rich, and few will dare to ask whether their wealth is fully or partially the result of the exploitation of other people around the world who work very hard in impossible conditions to such people would be billionaires.

Does anyone sane want Bitcoin to be promoted in any way by a man who just laughs and waves his hands at a picture like this?

70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I was holding on to Ledger and I got robbed on: May 12, 2024, 03:07:20 PM
Which secure BTC Wallet do you recommend for me to hold?
None, until you learn to do it right. You should at least try to narrow down what went wrong with your Ledger wallet and what resulted in you losing the coins you stored there. Ledger is no longer a recommended hardware wallet, but for other reasons that have nothing to do with this case of yours. No hardware wallet will help you if you have no idea what you are doing or how to protect yourself online.
~snip~

I think you gave him the best possible answer, now the only question is whether he will understand and listen to your advice. If we exclude some problematic hardware wallets, then in general we can say that the weakest links in the security chain are still people who do not understand that the most common attack vector is their backup, not the device itself.

No matter what HW he buys, the same thing will happen to him if he doesn't keep a backup, PIN or any other important information in a safe way - which means completely offline and away from other people's eyes, including those he trusts.
71  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Ambulance - Campaign - Ukraine on: May 12, 2024, 11:18:09 AM
@derBowler, Thanks for the detailed answer Wink

Honestly, I didn't even think that such a vehicle with all the equipment could be cheap, but what is cheap nowadays, right? However, considering the size of the European Union, it seems to me that there is probably a certain amount of ambulances that could perhaps even be donated (which is probably happening).

Regarding the transport of vehicles, have you perhaps thought about sending them in another way, perhaps by transport train or transport trucks? Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that it would be cheaper.
72  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Ambulance - Campaign - Ukraine on: May 11, 2024, 10:48:06 AM
@derBowler, if it's not a secret, how much does a fully equipped ambulance actually cost? I'm asking purely out of curiosity, of course Wink
73  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Senators renew scrutiny of border officers authority to search Americans phones on: May 11, 2024, 10:28:06 AM
the main thing they're looking for is drugs.
~snip~

I don't know if you are familiar with the documentary series about the world's most famous airports and their controls, I think it was broadcast by the NG channel - but there I saw some really strange cases that are quite difficult to explain. Of course, drugs are always in focus, but what goes that way is a drop in the ocean compared to what is smuggled in bulk in ocean-going ships.

it's a position of power. kind of a power trip thing too. where you can search someone's belongings and ask them a bunch of questions while they're standing there watching you go through their things and booting up there phone. "what's this app for?" "have you been doing any drugs lately?"...

Unfortunately, the wrong people in positions of power can be really problematic because they take out their personal frustrations on people who don't deserve it. Police beating random passers-by during a protest or destroying the property of people whose premises they are searching are something that happens all the time.

That's why it's better not to provoke them in any way, and that means that when you travel to countries like the US, Canada or Australia, it's better to find out what you can have in your luggage, and it's even better to bring a new smartphone and then let them examine it as much as they want.

This account you are using was registered in 2018, so I wonder how it is possible that you have a problem finding the right board for what you want to post? The forum may look complicated, but there aren't that many main boards that you need to click on to see what's behind them.
76  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should there be a way to register your wallet with the government? on: May 11, 2024, 09:46:05 AM
It seems to me at this point that some authorities would be content only to introduce absolute control over Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency in such a way that every transaction must be identified in such a way that the sender and receiver are known. If control over users were to be established in this way, and if the authorities in "cooperation" with miners could censor transactions that are suspicious to them, then Bitcoin would no longer be what it is now.

In addition, if people were to be identified in this way and a database of people who own cryptocurrencies would be created, isn't it realistic to expect that sooner or later someone would hack such a database and put all those in such a database at risk?
77  Other / Off-topic / Re: Voting for signature campaign participants: how do you manage the received BTC? on: May 11, 2024, 09:34:19 AM
I will just say that there are probably altcoins that have grown by more than 600-700% in the past 6-9 months, but investing in such a project is a far greater risk than investing in Bitcoin. Those who are only looking for profit will probably look for ways to make more profit, for me personally Bitcoin is the first choice not only as a long-term investment but also as a currency.

In addition, it is said that FTX has billions in various altcoins, one of which is the one mentioned in the OP - I wonder what will happen when one day (and it could be anytime) when they are dumped on the market?
78  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 10, 2024, 01:58:43 PM
@xhomerx10, thanks for the info, I honestly had no idea that something similar had happened, or even that there was a possibility that the aurora borealis might be seen where it is otherwise not possible. However, as far as I can see, this news mainly refers to the US, and it seems that we will not be so lucky in Europe (at least not the southern parts).

79  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: I have been scammed. on: May 10, 2024, 01:36:33 PM
I have been scammed, when I tunred the virus off I got scammed, someone opened my electrum and made this transfere.

I assume your antivirus warned you not to download some file, but you disabled it to do so and now you see how bad a move that was. Although AVs can sometimes have false detection, in most cases they protect you from malicious programs, which means that in the future do not disable your AV.

First you have to learn what risks are threatening you from the internet, and only then invest in Bitcoin again - otherwise, a cold or hardware wallet will not help you to prevent something similar from happening to you.
80  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Senators renew scrutiny of border officers authority to search Americans phones on: May 10, 2024, 01:13:28 PM
i don't think alot of americans understand this though. how just casually having some bitcoin app on their phone could trigger an investigation into their entire financial situation and maybe even get them in trouble with the IRS if the border security reports to the IRS. its certainly something to make sure you delete all your apps from your phone that have to do with crypto before you go and travel. Shocked
~snip~

That advice is actually something that I would give as a guideline for people who come from countries that are on the US "suspicious" list, and it seems to me that this is at least 50% of the countries that exist in the world. Let's be clear, border control officers are not looking exclusively cryptocurrencies, but it is just one of the things they check if someone seems suspicious to them. As far as I know, the US pays special attention to what comes out of the country, especially to any confidential information that could pose a threat to national security.

One of the safest moves is certainly to delete any crypto wallets, but you should also not forget the browsing history from the browser of your smartphone/computer, as well as the history of conversations in any app that may refer to anything that they consider illegal. As far as I remember, in one crypto wallet I had on my smartphone, the app icon could be "disguised" to look like another app, although I don't know how much help it is when your devices are taken away and officials start digging through everything.

Most of these officials actually enjoy it, and their job is only done well if they find something, so sometimes they are quite nervous if they don't succeed.
