61  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Is Avalon mining with customer hardware? Answer is here. on: June 18, 2013, 07:55:05 PM
FUD everywhere by people who can't do math.

1. these are not batch #1,2 or 3 units.
2. all the openWRT firmware is burnt from a single image in batches,
3. the openWRT is used in more than just production units.
4. all burn-in is 24 or more hours, you all think we seriously only would have 700+ bitcoins if they were mining? LOL
I can't believe I'm repeating myself by saying we are not mining with batch #2 or #3 units.
5. complains will just lead into refunds, since clearly people are not happy with Avalon ASIC.
personally I'd love to issue these refunds so these people can go find the next thing to complain about and I can get some peace n quiet.
6. I'm going back to deal with trade-in and damaged orders.

good work mrb,

this is what we wanted to see in the beginning.

hint hint: the chip has a much higher clock cap.  Wink Roll Eyes
63  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: June 13, 2013, 01:35:20 AM
OMG they answered my ticket within 5 minutes and my order (Feb 3) is now appearing in the store.

Almost the most beautiful day of my life...

and is shipping in 1-3 days.

I said before: I'll address shipping issues first, get production flowing, then I'll address tickets and ship units. there is literally no reason to do this before the first two is ready n set.
64  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: For the Avalonians among us... on: June 13, 2013, 01:19:56 AM
I was happy first too but we can only start when the link starts working... Smiley (or is it only me?)

woops.
65  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bad News: Avalon ASIC Samples shipped, BUT... on: June 10, 2013, 08:26:58 AM
seems to be some miscommunication here.

the people handling this just took all the people who ordered, and sent them 30 chips a person since they finally arrived, I've spoken to them and this issue is addressed, so all should be fine.

of course, the 30 chip per 10,000 rule still holds, it's just they'll show up later.

I mean it's kinda silly to do per address since people would just get more addresses or split their orders into single 10,000 orders...
66  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Address with Avalon bulk chip payments now tops $8 million... on: June 07, 2013, 02:49:29 PM
I have a contact in China which I use for sourcing inventory. Last week I asked her to look into getting ahold of the Avalon chips for less than the 0.085~ BTC rate the chips are typically going for in this forum's group buy threads. She contacted the TSMC foundry, which said that they aren't producing the chips anymore. At the time I brushed it off as maybe she had bad information or any other numbers of things could have happened, but with this new information this does not bode well.

LOLOLOLOL, right.

she and by extension, you; are full of shit, or have some serious brass in your pockets, getting information on which company is producing chips at the foundry, let's forget the NDAs. Oh let me guess you also know that foundry uses project numbers, nobody even know what's an Avalon Chip over there.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

also, parts came in, expect update this weekend.
67  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Address with Avalon bulk chip payments now tops $8 million... on: June 07, 2013, 08:23:24 AM
somebody called and woke me up in the middle of the night for this, so I'll keep it short.

1a. see the conference video, I thought that's an update; for the lazy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LY1xgGiejIc
1b. also got cornered after the panel and somebody took this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtVx26LlNXA
2. an update incoming in < 1 week, pretty exciting.
3. we fully understand there is problems with orders ( no way?! )
- we can not address these issues IF WE DO NOT SOLVE OUR PRODUCTION ISSUE then we can not DELIVER at all.
- so until that happens, get all your information ready and bump the ticket if it makes you feel better, or just wish to complain and blow off some steam. ( please do not create new ones though, usually looking at the support system ticket insolvency merging at least 5-6 other ones first... ).
4. this forum is a giant waste of time, get back to coding, go outside, hug your mother, do something,

lastly, food for though:

who says we control that address in the first place?  Wink
68  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: May 28, 2013, 02:12:41 AM
Thank you for your work.
I really do not understand Avalon ... Would be so easy to get you at least a one module device
1. thx too  Smiley
2. best thing they could do to send you and/or kano only one module for free...
(IMHO)
Send 2 modules to him Smiley
I'm not sure why they say they wont do it ...

Avalon itself do not wish to get involved with it,
the reason for this is we wish to avoid all form of drama of the question "who deserve a unit and who didn't and why." not to mention the lack of Avalon Units due to attempting to scale up production

While we appreciate ckolivas' work very much, and we have donated bitcoins to him on various occasions,
the decision for him to support Avalon on cgminer is entirely up to him. We are not obligated to provide him an Avalon Unit just like he is not obligated to provide support for Avalon in cgminer, this is the nature of open source. if those Avalon Owners who wish ckolivas to continue supporting are welcome to donate to him so he can get a unit.

Of course, we'd like ckolivas and others to continue to support Avalon, so we have created the 6Gh/s dev-board( 65W, 40 degrees C passively cooled) so we can send to developers so it may aide them in R&D.

as ckolivas mentioned, he opted for the latter and will receive one shortly.

there's instructions on running this via PC on the wiki

install linux, compile avalon-cgminer

remove P5 pin and connect USB hub to linux computer and start mining.
71  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New Halfsize Avalon "proposed" in latest update -- 45Gh/s on: April 18, 2013, 05:52:38 PM
looks like we are doing another batch.

72  Other / Off-topic / Re: Avalon unit arrived in a badly damaged condition. on: April 18, 2013, 11:26:29 AM
pm me order number, we are looking into this situation.
73  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon Asic] trade-in Thread on: April 18, 2013, 10:19:22 AM
DHL just called me and told me that there is a $30 import duty for my FPGAs and Yifo & co refuses to pay for that.
Avalon doesn't answer support questions so what do I do now? If I don't hear from them soon the package is returned to me!

excuse me? on our end we don't even get notices for that. I'm pretty sure DHL asked you to pay this fee, but you now blamed me and Avalon for this?

based on these lies I should just not honor your trade in.

pay the import duty.
74  Other / Off-topic / Re: Avalon unit arrived in a badly damaged condition. on: April 16, 2013, 05:52:15 PM
that's unfortunate, we will work out a solution to ship this one back and send you another.
75  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon update [15/04/13] on: April 16, 2013, 03:28:21 PM
Hi,

1) Will tracking codes be provided when the order is shipped?

2) Will there be a notification that the order was shipped?

Thanks!

yes of course.
A very strange way of doing business here...

7. communication protocol, reference board design provided in early May.
Sure, I'll order AFTER you have provided that. It would not make any sense to buy anything before actually having a working sample in hand, or at least some independent Bitminer verification...

up to you, or did you miss us shipping ~300 units ( made with these chips ) to customers?

Avalon will rise and fall with bitcoin, we only provide the option, the choice is yours.
As will all of us involved with Bitcoin.  It is good to see a Bitcoin business drive this point home.

By the way, BitSyncom, will customers who purchase your chips in bulk receive a few samples before the 10-week lead time on the production units?  So custom PCB designs can be tested before production parts arrive.

Best of luck Avalon team!  Thank you for the timely update.

yeah sure, in few weeks in we will provide them.
77  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon update [15/04/13] on: April 16, 2013, 05:00:14 AM
I find it very interesting that, like batch 3, they again chose to price the bulk chips in BTC. While I consider myself a true believer and part of me loves this, the hard truth is that their manufacturing costs are not in BTC so the exchange rate is a huge factor and USD is much more stable and predictable at this time. While this made sense with batch 3, which was sure to sell out quickly, I can't imagine how they are addressing this unless they also expect these bulk chips to "sell out" quickly as well. For example when I first got their e-mail update, BTC was at 85USD and it has since dropped as low as 55. That means my price for 10,000 chips has fluxuated between $66,000 and $43,000 in just 8 hours or so. Surely if the rate dropped to $20 tonight, they wouldn't be able to sell me 200,000 chips for $312k...

Very surprised they are already taking orders for bulk chips when there's still so little information out and still no sales staff to address any questions/concerns and of course zero technical support. I guess I will have to abandon my dreams of bulk chips as I don't have the courage to proceed with the current level of fog surrounding them. Good luck to those who do!

why does it matter if it drops to $20, or $200?

Avalon will rise and fall with bitcoin, we only provide the option, the choice is yours.
78  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Chips out of stock on: April 16, 2013, 04:50:36 AM
?

It isn't.
79  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New Halfsize Avalon "proposed" in latest update -- 45Gh/s on: April 16, 2013, 04:48:01 AM
to shred some light, the model is already made, as we have many prototypes and designs in house, it was a matter of if there's enough demand to warrant a batch.

If not, it'll just get made in a later timeline, for next generation for example.
80  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon update on: April 15, 2013, 08:52:11 PM
every batch is going through small adjustments, some internal design is different, and late batch 2 and early batch 3 will look like that.
Any word on whether the issue with the FPGA on the control board will be remedied in Batch #2?

what's wrong with the FPGAs on the controller board? if you mean how it has low fault tolerances on data loss due to packets either via USB or the internet then no not really, however we are changing the internal structure on the FPGA to better cope with this.
