601  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you cope with those around you not believing in you for choosing Bitcoin? on: November 08, 2023, 10:40:39 PM
Everyone is susceptible to having their own opinion; Bitcoin is not a panacea or a go-to solution for everything. It's perfectly reasonable that it's not likeable by everyone, and we should accept that it's their own point of view—one that can hardly change. I have a few acquaintances who are completely against it, but I'm not bothering to change their minds, nor do I care about their opinion; it's unlikely and pointless. People were always skeptical about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general, but we should embrace them and keep going, ignoring what others believe. Convincing someone who's against it is a waste of our time; you can't force
602  Local / Ελληνικά (Greek) / Re: Μήπως αποτύχαμε ως ελληνική κοινότητα; on: November 08, 2023, 08:28:08 PM

604  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FTX CEO Sam Bankman Fried found guilty on: November 05, 2023, 06:18:44 PM
It is a bitter victory, because in reality the damage was enormous, the cryptographic niche suffered a severe blow with this case. I don't think this is an end to this type of scams and/or crooks, but at least it is setting a good precedent, guilty.
Bitter victory or not, this doesn't return the money to their victims. I wasn't expecting something different; it would be an enormous scandal if he wasn't found guilty. I don't believe he had any valid reasons to alleviate his punishment. At least he's going to prison for the rest of his life. I'm hoping that one day the exchange's victims are compensated, at least with some of the lost money, but I'm doubting that this day is going to come any time soon.
605  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greek 2023–24 Super League Predictions & Discussion on: November 05, 2023, 03:39:31 PM
I'll start by stating that I'm not a fan of football, the Super League, or sports betting in general. However, after a recent discussion with the OP on the local board, @alani123, there wasn't a thread regarding Greek football teams, except perhaps during nationals, where I remember seeing a few mentions, if I'm not mistaken. It's nice to see that the OP went ahead and created this thread; hopefully it may attract new people to the gambling section and is updated regularly with the new upcoming games.

I'm hoping this thread gathers the attention the OP was hoping for, because I wasn't so optimistic about it.
606  Economy / Gambling / Re: QuitGamble.com - Free Help for Problem Gamblers on: November 05, 2023, 01:50:11 PM
I just do not understand how a website may help you get rid of a gambling addiction. The people who are addicted to gambling, I am sure their family and friends must have asked to stop the gambling frequency. The people near the gambling addcited must have tried to stop the person from addiction but to no avail. So how come a text website will be able to help get rid of gambling addiction???

Anyways the first thing, they ask you is to have a happiness test. Has anyone given that test? I haven't tried it because it asks for an email address where they will send the result of this test and I am not comfortable given my email address on sites unknown to me.
The same way a psychology's website would help you with depression or other mental illnesses. Its purpose is to provide information on some basic guidelines to acknowledge your addiction and start receiving help, where to look, and so on. This website is unable to make you quit, just like any mental health website is not capable of treating your mental illness. You need professional help from a psychologist to stop any kind of addiction; I don't think someone is capable of managing it on their own. It's not shameful to ask for help, as long as you acknowledge the issue and proceed to receive assistance.

I'm also curious on what kind of insight the happiness text provides, but I'm not willing to put my email or bother investigating any further, the questions are pretty basic and vague, they need to be reconsidered.
607  Economy / Gambling / Re: QuitGamble.com - Free Help for Problem Gamblers on: November 05, 2023, 11:56:23 AM
Did you see the URL? QuitGamble.com Which means you should quit gambling.
The site is intended to assist people who are addicted to gambling, with all the adverse effects an addiction can cause, let alone with gambling, which usually involves large amounts of money that can be disastrous for an individual. It doesn't blame gambling as an activity, but the addiction to it, just like any other addiction, is harmful.
You have not checked the site and you make conclusion. I only read the introductory path which has no complete information and I may not be exactly be correct either. The introductory path does not talk about quitting though.

People that want people to quit addiction want addicted people to stop doing that thing that makes them addicted, like to stop smoking or gambling. It is better to stop than to continue to be addicted.
I did a quick look at the website and found a few guides and posts containing the symptoms of a gambling addiction, statistics, some general information, a few blog spots, and a happiness test, which is pretty vague and asks only a handful of questions, which are not enough to draw a conclusion.

In general, the website has useful information but certainly requires more tests, questionnaires, and content.
608  Economy / Economics / Re: Biting more than i can chew. How can i do better? on: November 04, 2023, 10:20:44 PM
First of all, I hope things get better for you soon. To start addressing what you can improve, the most important aspects are self-control and money management. From what you've mentioned, I'm getting the vibe that you're a person who wants to spend money; the more you have, the more you spend, which is the wrong mentality to have for a variety of reasons. Some of which are limited or no savings for emergencies, no investment capabilities, and no real net worth. Thus, you need to improve your self-control and avoid spending every penny you receive. Put some aside for the future.
Anyways, it is beautiful that you want to improve your financial management and plan for a more stable and responsible future. One suggestion would be to consider developing a budget that aligns with your current income and expenses. To create a clear picture of your financial situation and allocate your resources more effectively, start by tracking your expenses and identifying areas where you can cut or make adjustments. Also, you should set some financial goals for yourself, it could be saving a certain percentage of your income each month, which can provide a sense of purpose and direction.
This is some solid advice; however, I'll tell you to start simple: no budgeting whatsoever; cut unnecessary expenses; do you need luxurious clothes? Probably not. Going to clubs and wasting all your money there? I don't think so. Think deeply about what you truly desire. From how I see things, based on what you described, you're someone who wants to feel desired, appear to have a social life, and so on. However, I'm sensing that there's a deeper reason for your behavior. Try to limit these habits, and if I were you, I'd be more cautious around my friends, as they can be taking advantage of your generosity, something that is unfortunately quite common.

Wink
610  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lost of my capital has made me to have a change of mind about Bitcoin . on: November 04, 2023, 12:23:45 PM
~snip~
I went through those stress to also learn how to analyze and also to know bullish and bearish moves ,to know when the market is trending and choppy but after all these processes and following those strategies I will still loose my capital . However, my question here is ' what is the best strategy to trade without losing my initial capital ?.

Your friend didn't do you any favors when he filled your head with stories about how you can make a ton of money trading Bitcoin without first explaining some basics about Bitcoin. Instead of starting from the basics, you got into trading, which is a challenge even for real professionals, let alone for beginners.

If you don't change the way you approach all this, unfortunately you will lose all the money you invest in trading - but that doesn't mean you have to give up Bitcoin, because why not buy and keep it until the price rises and then sell it - or use it for that what was it invented for, as currency.
As Lucius also mentioned, your friend wasn't much help. If it was his or her advice to start trading, then you were thrown under the bus. Trading is frustrating even for experienced users, let alone someone who doesn't even know the basics. I also experienced losses when I first started; it was annoying, but you need to understand that it's more than buying low and selling high; things don't always go your way.

Although it can be extremely profitable, it's also very risky and stressful, which only a few people can successfully handle. I used to trade until a few years ago but stopped, even though I had made a few successful ones that yielded decent profit. I'd advise you to start investing, preferably through DCA (Google it for more information), and stick to a budgeting plan to acquire more BTC in the long run.
611  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Conclusion after losing millions! that games are rigged. on: November 03, 2023, 11:33:27 PM
What can you expect to hear from a guy who's lost millions in gambling? Even if the system is proven to be fair, a statement from a gambler who's lost a significant amount of money could be biased because it's driven by frustration.

Consider this simple logic: If a gambling site were rigged, why would a gambler risk millions on it, along with other gamblers? His statement should not be taken too seriously; he might just be venting his emotions and could return to gambling once he's in a calmer state of mind.
I didn't watch the full video because I don't believe there's any reason to. But yes, I agree with you. His video doesn't actually prove anything in particular; it's his own theory that has no valid data to back up his statements. I don't believe that gambling games are rigged, but they're a business after all; they're counting on your losses to survive. Betting millions of dollars in the first place is something malignant to do. Who does that and expects a positive outcome from something so reckless? What kind of point would he be trying to prove? Because he certainly didn't waste millions in an attempt to demonstrate that the casino is rigged, there's no valid proof to support such a claim.

He's most likely another frustrated gambler who needs some help managing his money and his lack of self-control over gambling.
612  Economy / Economics / Re: Does Using a Credit Card Demonstrate Financial Literacy? on: November 03, 2023, 10:14:55 PM
Cash is king. And more private.

Do you remember the 80's and early 90's where having a credit card was a symbol of status and high-class? Now a credit card is a symbol of being in debt.
Taxes/fees paid when you use your credit card are high, and in countries with a lot of devaluation/inflation is getting higher. The majority of people I know is using them only because they don't have the money to make a one-time hard cash payment.

Sure there are some "benefits" like travel points, refund of some taxes, etc., but this only shows that either the fee you are paying for using the card is already high, or the government wants control over the spending of their citizens.
But cash is going to be extint soon since governments are pressuring for card usage nowadays. I visited Poland two years ago, and even street vendors accepted cards for purchases as little as $0.20. You can pay with a card everywhere, and I found it extremely convenient because I didn't have to go to an ATM machine or go through currency exchanges and so on.

Personally, I have both a credit card and a debit card; the OP here is mostly focusing on credit cards. I'm using cards quite frequently, and personally, card usage makes finance management a little easier. You can keep track of your spending without too much effort. However, I do agree that you can easily lose track, especially with credit cards, if you're caught buying things in installments.

Unfortunately, though, the era when cash was king is long gone. You can't make any large purchases anymore because everything must go through the banking system. One way to possibly avoid all this monitoring would be with cryptocurrency cards, which, even though they require KYC (such as Binance's or Crypto.com), your money is still somewhat safe from the eyes of the government.
Καλά, αν γίνει ανάρτηση για συζήτηση Ελληνικών αθλημάτων καλό θα ήταν να γίνει στα Αγγλικά. Έτσι κι αλλιώς όπως λες και εσύ, Έλληνες έχουμε λίγους αλλά δεν αναρτούν εδώ. Αγγλικά ξέρουν λοιπόν. Γιατί να πετάξουμε και το ξένο κοινό που ενδιαφέρετε απ' έξω λοιπόν;

615  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is It Late To Invest In Bitcoin? on: November 02, 2023, 07:47:10 PM
Days when you could become millionaire by investing few hundreds of dollars in bitcoin are (most likely) gone, but that still doesn't mean that its too late to invest in bitcoin. Imho, as long as bitcoin keeps beating inflation (which he is doing with no problem), its definitely worth it to invest instead holding fiat that losses value constantly.

Back in late 2013/early 2014 I also thought that I was too late since BTC price was ~$1k so instead buying 0.1-0.2 BTC I bought shitcoins for a couple of hundreds of dollars. Luckily, a bit later I realized my mistake and that I am far from too late and started buying bitcoin instead. So, don't make the same mistake I did.
That's also what I believe. I'll be honest; in my opinion, it's too late to be introduced to the immense opportunities that were presented from 2013 to 2016, where an average individual could invest a few hundred dollars, and provided that he managed to hold on for years to come, he could potentially end up rich. These days are over; nowadays, you need to be wealthy to acquire one whole bitcoin; even $20,000 or $25,000 is an extravagant amount of money for the average person.

However, it's not too late to start acquiring. Certainly, don't expect to become wealthy from it, as that would also require a large amount of capital to invest from your side, but you'll be able to experience a potential return of 2x or even 3x of your investment within the next two or three years. And that's not bad at all, on the contrary.

OP, it's better late than never.
616  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Brave Browser installs a VPN service without your permission on: November 02, 2023, 05:47:17 PM
I find it a little contradictory to advertise this browser as a more secure and private option, while at the same time you're being installed with something you're potentially not interested in without your knowledge. On the one hand, I want to believe that it's not that big of a deal, but on the other, I find it unacceptable. What's your opinion about this? Do you believe it's worrying and something to be noted?
Brave browser was always coming with a lot of bloatware, so I am not really surprised about this vpn service installed.
However, you can easily disable this in services, and you can use portable Brave browser that don't install anything on your computer.
I wouldn't use Brave as my main browser, but I don't consider this news alarming.
If you want clean browser that respects privacy without extra crap, you can try Librewolf (based on Firefox), and Tor browser for even more privacy.
That's interesting, I wasn't expecting that from a service that supposedly supported cryptocurrencies. Thanks for the suggestions, although I'll stick to Chrome, as I find the Google account integrations convenient.
Just stick with Firefox or Chromium. This kind of nonsense isn't worth dealing with if you are using Windows.

The only thing that it does well is block all the Youtube anti-adblock popups which they have started to enforce recently on everyone. But then again, you can just use the uBlock Origin or Adguard extensions to circumvent that.
Indeed, doesn't make much of a difference with Windows. The ideal would be to install Linux, but I don't find it too appealing, even though it's way more secure.
Looks like they did the correct PR move by promising to make the installation not mandatory and only apply to those who subscribe to their VPN service, a new update will automatically remove those services. I do agree that it is an annoying move though, it looks like they won't do anything unless someone finds it out. But yeah, they are not the best choice for privacy for a while now.
That's something at least. Although it's not a mandatory service, I'm not too fond of the idea of having them install the service without your permission, especially since I wasn't interested in it in the first place.
Chrome is the worst browser to use if you care about privacy. Chrome reveals all of your data, it's the least secure browser. Chrome, Edge, Opera, Safari, Yandex Browser and others should be avoided and Brave is in this list too because of their shady behaviour in past.
I see, it certainly isn't and if I'm not mistaken, it's a burden for the computer as well. It uses a lot more ram than the Brave browser, which I had tried a couple of months ago. Edge is certainly off the list as well, since it's a Windows - Microsoft applications, the rest are completely indifferent to me, as I've never bothered to use them.
I think this is not a big deal. Does brave automatically connect you to their VPN? I think they don't do that. Btw Brave is better choice than Chrome and other browsers.
Finally, Tor is the best browser to use but it's not for everyone because it's very slow and there are some other factors to consider. I would stick with Mozilla with some beneficial addons.
On the one hand, I don't believe it's too large of a deal either, but on the other hand, I do find it a little frustrating. I also prefered Firefox in the past, but now with Android phones and Google integrations, Chrome has settled for me.
617  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-11-01] BBC - Man convicted after cryptocurrency robbery on: November 01, 2023, 10:44:15 PM
If I'm not mistaken, I remember reading a similar story here quite a long time ago, but it definitely wasn't this one, as it wasn't in the European Zone. Anyway, this goes along to prove that people don't actually know how cryptocurrencies work and that only a small number of people do. This weird combination of numbers and letters is indeed traceable, especially in Bitcoin. It doesn't mention in the article where the money was transferred, but I wouldn't be surprised if these nutjobs actually deposited it on a centralized exchange.

What's intriguing though is that the robbery took place in March 2020, and the robbers are now convicted after over 3.5 years. I'm wondering if it's due to a broken justice system or the complex nature of cryptocurrencies. Perhaps it wasn't easy to relate the stolen coins to the robbers and where they were ultimately deposited? Who knows?
618  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Brave Browser installs a VPN service without your permission on: November 01, 2023, 09:54:29 PM
I did a quick search and didn't find any mentions on the forum so far. I recently stumbled upon an article claiming that the Brave browser, which is quite common in the cryptocurrency world for its BAT tokens and the privacy benefits it offers, is supposedly installing a VPN service on your computer without informing you or getting your permission beforehand. Although this is a paid optional service, don't you think you should be asked whether you want a service running on your computer?

I've also used it in the past but found no real purpose to replace the Chrome browser, which I find the most convenient of all so far. The BAT tokens aren't worth the hassle switching either.

With halving less than a year from now, the majority of us are speculating a major increase in price and possibly the start of another bull market after 4 years. Some are expecting to surpass the previous ATH of almost $70,000 and possibly reach $100,000. Although this scenario sounds great and all, I'm not quite confident that it'll happen in the upcoming year or so. The current economic condition in the world isn't too promising and, in my opinion, will set back investments in general, including bonds and the stock market. I hope I'm proven wrong, though.
Generally, when the global financial situation is good, there is a positive movement in all types of business, including the stock market of different countries. But the crypto market always behaves differently. As we saw in covid-19 when all types of financial institutions went bad crypto was bullish state. Again the current situation is exactly the same. With the effects of the current war and inflation seen in the world, the reports of all financial institutions are not good, but cryptos are on the bullish side. We may soon see a bullish movement in Bitcoin. As we look towards the Bitcoin halving event towards the end of next year, there is a lot of excitement among investors which is a positive aspect. Hopefully we'll soon see Halving move towards a major bull market and the upcoming bull market is going to be a significant event for Bitcoin.
While I understand your point, I believe that the situation was quite different during COVID-19. The whole economy had come to a stop, factories had shut down due to quarantine, and shipping industries were facing major issues. I can't explain why Bitcoin was thriving during that period; perhaps due to stocks' poor performance, investors switched to cryptocurrencies. Who knows? This is just another assumption. Now it's completely different; the economy has been disrupted as a result of two active battlefronts, both of which countries involved are active exporters of wheat (for Ukraine) and oil (for Israel).

The situation is quite complicated in general, and everything we say is mostly based on assumptions. I'm hoping Bitcoin isn't largely affected and that we can ultimately put an end to these wars before more innocent people suffer.

Why do you have little faith though? did Bitcoin already failed to reach new all time high every 4 years? I will have doubts as well if we have somewhat didn't see a bull run in 2020-2021, because of the pandemic, so obviously you are already proven wrong with your argument.
From which part are you implying that I've little faith in Bitcoin? My point is simply that the $50,000 mark isn't that far from our current price and is a very likely and realistic price to meet in the few upcoming months.
Yeah, and just like when you posted this thread, suddenly the price went on a spike, reaching as high as $35,150 and then we are trading on $34,310. Not to rub it in, but Bitcoin proves it's doubters again, sorry to burst the bubble to you OP.
What bubble are you bursting? There's no bubble to burst, nor did I ever imply that I'm another doubter of Bitcoin; I wouldn't be here if I were one. I don't understand how you're claiming such a thing when I'm nowhere close to implying something like that.
And let's just wait till the bull run in 2024-2025 and see how big it will be. Just for the record, the lowest low is $15,500. And with the current price, we are almost 130% from it, meaning if we have bought at that price last year and continue to do DCA one year later, we should be in the profit right now. So in the next bull run, the returns could be higher than we expected, just saying.
I never mentioned that the lowest is $25,000, but that the nearest low of a few months is approximately there, which is still a decent price for those who missed the opportunity to buy at $15,000 or $20,000 in terms of investment capabilities, and $50,000 is a pretty viable target within 2024.
The current global economic situation is certainly not good. With two major wars going on at the same time, it is highly likely that economic institutions will not fare well. We also often hear about the bankruptcy of various financial institutions. In particular, the condition of the banking system is not very good. But the positive thing here is that since Bitcoin is a decentralized asset, people are trying their best to convert their wealth into Bitcoin. As a result, the demand for Bitcoin is also increasing massively. If a person loses confidence in keeping slowly building wealth in traditional platforms then Bitcoin is a suitable platform where you can invest your wealth safely against inflation. In the current scenario, Bitcoin price is rising and will continue to increase, we expect bitcoin price will surpass  the previous ATH in the next year.
Apart from the ongoing wars themselves, I'm mostly worried about a new potential energy crisis. We already had a rough one after COVID-19 and the Ukrainian War, and the battlefront in the Middle East certainly isn't helping.
