I still have some Mt. Gox USD available.
Me too...

Wouldn't it be normal to have a diode on the +5v USB line to prevent feeding current back into the hub or port?

So, is anyone starting a pool on how long 'til they get shut down again? Presumably according to the article, shutting them down would now be a breach of contract.

Holy crap bitcoin price is crashing. Maybe we should hold off the trade for a while until the price stabilizes.
Woah. Someone must have just found an old backup of a paper wallet after the rate went up, and decided to cash out.

Hopefully I won't get too addicted to all this.

"We are programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave!"

You've fallen down the rabbit hole, there's no going back! Grin
607  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Clarification needed about how trading at Mt.Gox works on: July 20, 2012, 01:02:54 AM
Well, what outcome are you expecting, or what have you observed that differs from the expected behavior?
608  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA Rig Photos on: July 20, 2012, 12:18:21 AM
Holy shit, now we know why BFL hasn't been delivering to everyone else.

I count 42, all on stock bricks (?!?!?!) - protip: Almost any standard power supply will be more efficient and require less cable clutter.
609  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wendon Group, et al. on: July 20, 2012, 12:14:34 AM
Hi Phin

It's "Wendon Group" with a "d".

You can continue this if it entertains you, but it will all be a matter of public record upon court action against the Consultancy. The investment fund has nothing to hide. Nor do I.

Then release all that information now.
Any poker player  lawyer worth his salt will keep his cards  evidence close to his chest until it's court time.

Quoted for out-of-context lulz.

Truth, he speaks it. Coin Control is slated for release in v0.7, I believe.

I don't think coin control is making it, but raw transactions allows you to accomplish the same thing, even better because you can select outputs and not just addresses.
Thanks for the info, I get mine secondhand since I stay out of the dev section.
612  Other / Off-topic / Re: Sign up to pay with PayPal at participating retailers on: July 19, 2012, 09:24:14 PM
I just got an e-mail with the subject "Sign up to pay with PayPal at participating retailers."

Is this new, or has it been around for a while?  I think I read an article on this sometime in the past months or year(s)?

If it's not new, then is anyone using it?  How do the fees compare to credit cards?

Comments/thoughts?

I've never gotten an email, but when I go to Home Depot, they offer the option to use PayPal at the checkout lane. However, you have to be signed up, and I never bothered to look into how to do that.
613  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Main disadvantage of Bitcoin and the others on: July 19, 2012, 09:23:01 PM
It's extremely easy to avoid all of these with proper control of your addresses.
Haven't seen "Private mode" option in my bitcoin wallet. It's easy for u but not for millions housewives. Bitcoin have to be more user-friendly to become popular.

Are those the millions of housewives/househusbands that willingly share the most intimate details/pictures on facebook/twitter/co with the whole world to see? Do you really think strong anonymity is a big issue for them?

And as was said before: strong anonymity is absolutely possible with Bitcoin and it would not be too hard to build a privacy-focused client. The demand just is not that great - not even within the Bitcoin community it seems, although this community is probably much more privacy-aware than the average. Having said that, I'm also convinced that a privacy-focused client is bound to appear at some point!
Truth, he speaks it. Coin Control is slated for release in v0.7, I believe.

615  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buy Bitcoins Direct @ MtGox last without fees or exchanges on: July 19, 2012, 09:08:10 PM
Well that's a shame, and pretty much a major fail. Did they indicate whether it was due to fraud or whether it was due to legal uncertainties? And no, I'm not recommending that anyone attempt to skirt the ToS if they don't even want intermediaries touching their system.
616  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buy Bitcoins Direct @ MtGox last without fees or exchanges on: July 19, 2012, 08:47:58 PM
We stopped accepting GreenDot MoneyPaks as a funding option roughly a month ago pending a review.  We have decided to no longer accept them.  We were never defrauded the issue is simply scale.  MP to PayPal is useful but that is limited to only $4K per month.  MP to credit cards has limited value for us and if we attempt to get cash that incurrs a high cost.  We now have over $100,000 worth of Bitcoins to sell each month.  MoneyPak simply doesn't scale.   If GreenDot allowed us to become a MP merchant we could accept MP and get daily ACH deposits however that is unlikely to happen given GreenDot hostility towards Bitcoin.
Isn't this where Bitinstant steps in with a pre-made Greendot intermediary, all set up and ready to go? Yessir, all wrapped up in a tidy package for you, they will take the Moneypaks, and send you an ACH to disburse to your customers as you see fit. For a fee, of course. Wink

If not them, someone needs to do it.

No one has ever posted here about a dead unit other than ngzhang, so presumably they have RMA stock sitting on the shelf in case of issues.
619  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: We should discontinue that effort on: July 19, 2012, 07:24:04 PM

We should drop the effort of applying a SCAMMER tag.

Luckily, you're in the minority. My guess is you're one of their sockpuppet accounts.

Cool, can I be a sockpuppet account too?
FWIW, scammer tag is not the solution here.
620  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is a hackers dream on: July 19, 2012, 07:20:13 PM
And so eventually somewhere in this MtGox account thread they stated that they do, but don't share this information publicly.

They said they were filing a report with the police and could not publicly discuss the information they had while the matter was being investigated.  They did not say that they knew who the hacker was.  They said they knew where the transactions went.  That information may allow the hacker to be traced but it doesn't mean that MtGox is aware of their identity.
Wow, I wasn't aware that you can withdraw 40kBTC and 40kUSD while having an anonymous account at MtGox. The same MtGox that is known for their extensively KYC and AML... Maybe you know something that we dont?
Read DannyHamilton's comment 3 or 4 posts above yours. Obviously Bitcoinica's account was AML verified/trusted, so withdrawals of huge amounts would be possible. How it happened instantly, I don't know.
