Hmmm... I would definitely not be the first to give access to my online banking, even with all the assurances, single session, etc. I would rather trust an escrow agent, at least in that case my risk would be limited...

I think this should be included in the official development roadmap as it is basically vital for anyone holding the currency, as you can see centralized exchanges have only brought problems so far (Mt Gox, BTC China) and they could continue to do so in the future.
To be fair to them, they have been very valuable in advancing liquidity and driving the growth of the network in the past years... but yes, they are way too vulnerable, we need the next stage in evolution soon...

Wow.. just the teamliquid announcement thread has 70.000+ views! http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/index.php?show_part=36I think we can expect the streaming channels and youtube videos to have a huge impact. It looks like the SC2 community is as active as the Bitcoin community, and far more numerous. If pro SC2 players and casters start getting into BTC, it's going to be huge.

#BitcoinAfrica proceeds to Namibia! http://localbitcoins.blogspot.fi/2013/12/bitcoinafrica-proceeds-to-namibia.htmlNamibia seemed to be easy cake to find a Bitcoin trader in, since there was a Bitcoin enthusiast already there.
"Yesterday we managed to do another trade with a Namibian guy, he said that is following all the stories of the trip through your magazine since we started. He took some pictures of our bikes to proof with his friends that it was all real.
He told us that is convincing all his friends to start using bitcoin and after this it would be easier."

December 18, 2013 FT: China bans new Bitcoin deposits http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/6707013a-67af-11e3-8ada-00144feabdc0.html#axzz2npDcRmGAChina has blocked the country’s Bitcoin exchanges from accepting new inflows of cash, a move that imperils the much-hyped virtual currency in its biggest market. The head of BTCChina, the world’s largest Bitcoin exchange by trading volume, said he had received word at midday on Wednesday that his platform would no longer be able to accept renminbi from would-be Bitcoin buyers. This is why we need a P2P exchange.

I see... BTC/USD is closed
Our BTC/USD market will be closed on Monday, November 18th 2013, 4:00 pm (GMT+1).
There are multiple reasons behind this decision: - This market was hardly profitable for us. The extreme high volatility makes it also extremely risky for market makers to offer a derivative. The only way to fight this is with low limits and high spreads, which both lead to unsatisfied traders. - The data connection to most Bitcoin/U.S. Dollar exchanges is unstable or comes with huge lags. Many exchanges don't have a real-time data stream or (re)move such APIs without warnings. - We had to put extraordinary much time and resources into managing this market. - Although we have ideas to overcome the above problems, a new implementation is complex and needs a lot of work.

Any reason why? I quite liked it...

As far as I'm concerned, getting 5 Bitcoin exchanges in Africa, with their time and tech constraints, is a huge win! Hopefully they should not have many problems getting their 6th in South Africa. If they could make a small detour into Zimbabwe that would also be awesome, given their recent monetary troubles... although that is probably too much to hope for, given the distances involved. But it would definitely make the headlines! Remember this?

http://bitcoinmagazine.com/8883/localbitcoins-motorcycle-trek-through-africa-benin-to-angola/After 2 days, we arrived to the more civilized region of Douala where we did our fourth bitcoin exchange. Thanks to our bitcoin contact in Mali, we were introduced to Dani who was interested in exchanging. Dani was kind and paid us (for our) bitcoins in advance as we had some technical problems. We made a good friend and spent the weekend ‘resting’. After speaking French through 11 countries we finally arrived in Angola. As a native speaker of Portuguese, things got easier for me and for our bellies. The food is amazing here just like my hometown.
It’s a beautiful country and there are such friendly people here. No corruption so far and lots of ATMs. Everyone is very helpful as well. After 4 days in Luanda with some friends, we are on the road again. Today we did 515 km to Lobito where we met a contact to do our fifth Bitcoin exchange, this time to Angolan Kwanzas. Another successful Bitcoin transaction!
The Internet is getting faster as we head south.
