601  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Selling quality collectable Casascius coins........ on: June 02, 2016, 04:17:07 PM

Heh - and I felt late to the party when I joined. Then there was that post from some guy in 2010 saying that "the train had already left the station" and he lamented that he was only able to mine ~650BTC before it wasn't worth keeping the laptop on.

And thus, the acronym "CCMF" was born.  Tongue

I've been trying to figure out what "CCMF" stands for for the last ten minutes... Care to enlighten me? I'm sure it will be something obvious and I will feel dumb haha

Did icocountdown state any reason for the delisting? Does it affect the accumulation of RISE from ICO investors? What dev team says about this?

He had some concerns and we answered all of them, they are in this thread... We'll have to dig them out or write an article, as the question keeps coming up.

Unfortunately after getting all the answers he didn't update his post.

I would be a buyer if you can come down on the price. The last 3 25s offered here went down as:

1) 2weix tried to sell and no one would buy it and he peeled  Sad
2) Sold for 26.5BTC
3) Sold for 27BTC

I purchased the last 2 and both were series 2. Let me know if you have some room price wise or not.

Edit: I also have other coins I could trade if you were interested? Willing to do a partial trade/BTC or whatever.

Hey Blazed. How many times do i need to tell you, im not selling it to you at your prices? Its like you are spamming my sales thread, and/or intentionally scuppering my sale.

I asked Dargo of Kraken, if there was a process to third party disputes of accepted claims.....

Dargo, I have a question.
I have a claim in BTC accepted on mtgox site. Can I transfer the mtgox claim to kraken now ? ( or in the future ? ). I question because I want to receive in BTC. Is sure that Kraken can distribute in BTC ? Thanks.

You can't transfer the claim now, but you will be able to in the future (the process for that hasn't been fully determined yet, but we will let everyone know when it is). There's always the possibility that things will change, but currently the plan is that Kraken will handle all bitcoin distributions.
Is there a process set up for accepted claims, that are disputed by others? i.e.......

Not sure, but see my post above about disputing rejected claims, perhaps it would be a similar process.

Ok. Thanks for the info. Will pass the details on.

Last bump....

If the 25BTC coin is not sold before BTC hits $1000......the holo gets it!  Grin

Noooo.... Smiley There are only ~350 Series-2 25BTC coins still active!

My theory on the 25BTC coins is that they're likely to enjoy their day in the sun as high-premia collectibles down the road - hence, I'm holding mine. They go relatively unloved today because they're kind of an odd duck in terms of design, and more critically, they're high denomination....and since Bitcoin hasn't broken into the mainstream of numismatics where collectors have serious money, the market consists mostly of fellow Bitcoiners for whom it's hard to pay 2x,3x,etc premia on a coin with a >$10000 face value.

But a big part of the theory behind Casascius collectability at all is not appreciation due to selling to other Bitcoiners; I'd argue that the bull-collectible-theory is more contingent on the success of Bitcoin overall, leading to much stronger interest from more traditional numismatic circles. And look at the premia over "face" or "bullion" value that collectors place on certain gold-coin issues... Some gold (double|half|etc)-Eagles can go for 6 or 7 figures when they technically have <$2000 worth of gold in them. It's ultimately almost all about history and rarity.

The 25BTC coins have that history and rarity. They're 2011 dated, and show up as cover photos in hundreds of media stories about Bitcoin. They are intimately tied to Bitcoin's history, possibly more so than any other physical-bitcoin issue, Casascius or otherwise, a relative few were made to begin with, and they suffer the largest redemption percentage of any Casascius issue (besides the 1000BTC, of course). Those history and rarity factors are the most important qualities for eventual desirability.

But if you really want to kill the coin, I guess it makes mine non-trivially more valuable long-run, given the relative few of them out there. Smiley
Nicely put.
So right, on the bull-collectable-theory. This place was positively buzzing with interest in 2013, with Casascius related talk and trading. Since 2014, the interest has faded with only, seemingly, the highly rare and highest grades generating the same kind of interest. Although there has been many pretender coins come on the market since then, that seem to trade quite well.
Im sure the magic will return, when the new batch of Bitcoiners exercise their new found interest, just like our wave did.

Ive really enjoyed owning this. The reactions from ordinary Joes, when you explain what is, what it represents, and its value, is priceless sometimes.  Grin Its even better when a confirmed Bitcoiner sees and touches a Casascius for the first time. As you say, it really is a bit of Bitcoin history, and they know it!

I wont be killing it yet. BTC has to be at least $1000. And by then, hopefully, that bull interest would have returned anyway. We shall see.

EDIT: just checked your history @Melbustus. We are not of the same wave, you ole timer.  Cool

611  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] KRAKEN.COM - Exchange with USD EUR GBP JPY CAD BTC LTC XRP NMC XDG STR ETH on: May 30, 2016, 05:31:06 PM
Assume you have a BTCEUR short position of 10 BTC. That means you actually borrowed 10 BTC from Kraken in order to sell it for EUR.
Now you decide you want to give back the 10 BTC to Kraken (say from your cold wallet) and keep the EUR for good. What you have to do in this case: You deposit 10 BTC and settle the position. Without settling you would have to close the position and then sell the deposited 10 BTC on the market. The latter method would imply two unnecessary trades involving a lot of friction (fees, spread, effects of limited order book depth).
So, it's actually really nice from Kraken to spare you this hassle and provide the settle feature even for free.

Appreciate the explanation. Only started using Kraken yesterday for the first time, but I definitely need to eat more weetabix today, cos i still dont why i would want to settle the borrowed funds, but still keep the position open. What scenario would that be an advantage to me? And when i 'close', i dont experience any of that friction/hops you mention, and with no additional fees, from what i can make out.

Cheers

From what you wrote, I think there are some misconceptions:
1. When you settle a position, then this position is not open any more.
2. When you close a position then this closing involves a trade. (If you close a 10 BTCEUR short position, then you actually buy 10 BTC at market.)

Yep. The last bit of this sentance, threw me a bit. "Another way is to return the advanced funds directly from the trader’s account balance with no trade involved - this is position settlement." I understand the mechanics of it now.
Thanks to others who replied, also.

@Dargo  I really would like to be able to click-enter amounts, instead of manually typing values into order box's. Better still, trading/order entry from a chart, would be cool.  Smiley

Having trouble understanding why i would want to 'settle' a position. Maybe im missing the obvious, but what advantage does it offer the trader?

When you asked this 'someone' what their reasoning was, what did he/she say?

I told Shawn Haggerty that Kenny would make a claim. I hope he's paying attention. I suggest all bag holders let him know that it's proceeding. That's our money, at least a small percentage of it.
I lost ~35 btc on this piece of crap. Even if I never see a satoshi back I'd at least like to know Kenny gets his btc snatched away. Better even he goes to jail too.
I'm serious though, the more people bang on haggerty's door the more heat gets turned up under kenny's fat ass.
Call the man
Maybe Shawn Haggerty can make an official application to Gox trustee/liquidators, to claim the BTC does not belong to Ken.  Undecided

Anyone else had issues sending?

Yesterday I had the issue of LSK being send (and marked as send) but they never arrived and finally came back in my wallet.

This can happen if either (1) the/your node's block height is not up to date or (2) the node you're accessing to send is not responsive due to heavy load.

Please try to use another node, or if you're running LISK locally (highly recommended to do that), try this.

Are you guys at LISK serious that there is no GUI walllet for Mac after all this development. I can't get LISK out of my online wallet, it sucks, I cant trade
So after all this I can't send anything

So will these transactions just retry endlessly or not
Try this node if you havnt already. Worked for me, and many others with the same problems as you.

so dev goes MIA again....  Roll Eyes

i actually thought to use XCH for a music oriented project but if I can't even create a coin without the wallet malfunctioning.
Seems to me, Drak would like to walk away from this. Takeover talk, would seem the only way forward, IMO.
