I don't think what I wrote disagrees with anything you say. It's a riff on the increasing futility of analysis for trading, particularly in the short term. Though it may have applicability to some longer term factors too as once they become known and recognized. For example, halving effects become increasingly well known and compensated for and the nature of Bitcoin's bubble mean that fewer people now fall for the FOMO so the boom is less boomy and the bust less miserable.

But I see that so many people seem to be caught up in some kind of mental framework that if the actual high does not happen within the four year fractal.. as scheduled by the pundits, therefore, the odds for the high happening after that same framework has diminished greatly..... or were the odds always not much more than 50/50 anyhow?

Price prediction in a growth phase is a paradox. We are sure that the price is going up in a long enough time. If it is predictable that the price would be up and at X at time T, the smart thing to do would be to buy large amounts at anything <X right now and sell at T for guaranteed profit. That would immediately drive the price to X. The only way this resolves is for the price to be hard to pin down except in generalities. In fact, the tighter you make the analysis, the harder the price is to pin down.

Either Clarke or Asimov wrote a story based around this principle.

In other words, HODL!

And thousands of years of government malfeasance.

1. Texas
2. Portugal
3. El Salvador

.... in that order?

... I'm gonna start shopping for passports I think, change my mind. Totally sick of these crazy "health security" authoritarians that are fucking up every place they touch.

It should never be ruled out but it takes a certain mindset to be able to uproot and move somewhere else entirely. I moved to same language, similar culture and I generally dislike being around people but I won't pretend that moving back hasn't crossed my mind on occasion (Though sensible consideration and the occasional return visit (not available in recent times) always shows that I'm staying put.

I've known people who have done the cultural exchange (Thailand and the like) and from what I can tell, it's typically a young man's game.

So keeping my options open but it seems that all of the places where I would be culturally comfortable are currently running similar levels of dementedness when it comes to government. Maybe if some seasteading gets going.

When the bill came, he was ready to split it. I was like, "no worries brother, I got this one."

That puts me in mind of a TV show worth watching, since the thread has had some of that recently. "Inside No 9". The episode I'm thinking of in particular is S03E02 "The Bill".

I just watched that episode.    F**king brilliant!
I can't believe I've never heard of this show.
Thanx for the recommendation bro. Now I'm gonna eye guzzle the lot.

There's a few misses in there but most of them are well worth a watch. There's at least one that's considered one of the best that I haven't got to yet.
628  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 06, 2022, 03:47:14 AM

Never heard of inside no 9  so I checked out a utube vid on it and am downloading first season right now. )

If you're watching in company, you might want to keep some onions handy to chop for one of the episodes.

Was it this video by any chance? It's the one that put me onto it.

Fun fact, When Anders Celsius first invented the scale it was 100 for freezing and 0 for boiling, it was later inverted.
Pro tip, use half scales, ie 21,5 C for more granularity.

Just to throw in another point that the obvious "useful" scale would be 0 for freezing (triple) point of water and 100 for average human body temp. Though again, it's arbitrary.

SURPRISE; SURPRISE...

Antigen test before going to sleep turned out to be positive.
This time i took the test when my nose was running, as it did before a few times today. Additionally i harrumphed a few times and spit in a glass, put the nasal swab into that for a short moment, then went on with the analysis of the sample: Two euqally dense red lines after about half a minute.
So that's it. My ticket out of vaccination mandate for half a year after being tested negative again.

Will delay my scheduled photoshoots, however  Roll Eyes

But 0-100 in F represents a (less exact) useful range of general temperatures for the outside environment with better granularity in between at the unit. 0=cold as hell and 100=Texas.  with 60-80 being a nice 20 point comfort zone.  But you only get about half the whole number granularity with the "science numbers".

I've often heard the granularity argument but have never really bought it. The question is whether you really need that kind of granularity and, if you do, are fractions really that much of a hardship? For comfort zones, 20 degrees in F is about 10 degrees in C so arguably (weakly but it's countering a weak argument anyway), C wins out there because we use a 10 aligned counting system. Fahrenheit doesn't really hang off of anything. 0 is temperatures most humans don't experience on any kind of regular basis and 100 is kinda near human body temperature but not so a hard 'F' there too.

As with yourself, I'm not seriously arguing but Fahrenheit is pretty indefensible other than from an inertia stance (which is a decent enough reason in my book). Celsius isn't really much better though (though water is pretty important so it has that but when you get to science, you'll be using K more often than not).

(I am translating from the sensible fahrenheit to the non weather sensible celcius for you Europeans and lovely brave Canadians (HONK), although I agree the US are cavemen as far as the metric system goes F is just better for weather, while C is great for science or cooking.. anyway never mind that).

Given the rest of the content of your post, the science of when water freezes might be considered fairly relevant. In truth, both are arbitrary and fine

What you guys think?

I think you probably need some sleep.

That is so freaking true…!!!

I think new $40k feeling is overwhelming.

To be clear, there will definitely be borrowing and lending in a Bitcoin world and there will probably be a role for bank-like entities but this idea that your money is "in the bank" like it's sitting in a vault somewhere and you can always access it any time has to end. I mean, haven't people seen "It's a Wonderful Life"?

They also were rehearsing a little stage play, where my son is playing a hunter and his seatmate is playing a bear, and she has to roar at him (without a mask, close distance).

I always* felt the mask mandates were pretty much useless but JFC, can we not go full retard in the other direction?

*I did feel caution was appropriate at the beginning

I sold my bottom for ramen.

@Jack leaving Twitter has had several impacts.  Mostly bad. Though I am not really a @Jack fanboy.  Just cautiously curious as to his eventual effect on Bitcoin...  Here is another one of those downstream things, though:

Don't look at the crook behind the curtain.

Now that we have 40 year high inflation, I was wondering what happened back then. There wasn't Bitcoin, of course but there was gold and it either wasn't as problematic or people weren't aware of the problems it had.

This article is from 2016 but I'm more interested in the period it was talking about.
