6301  Other / Meta / Re: Topics that should be discussed on "Off-topic" board. on: September 11, 2019, 11:35:26 PM
I started the Jet Cash coffee lounge thread in the ivory tower for senior members to discuss a whole range of topics. It gets sporadic interest, but a couple of the discussions were interesting. I hoped it would be similar to the range of discussions that one used to get in cafe society in the 60s, but I guess that is long gone now that we are in the mobile text era.

It's still there, it's just moved online. I am on a few forums that have very active boards outside of the main "focus"
The problem is you are more likely to get in a flame war with an anonymous internet person then someone sitting at a table near you.

There are also a lot of places in NYC that are good for open conversation.
Just not cheap.

6302  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Raspberry Pi 4 performance on: September 11, 2019, 12:52:44 PM

There's plenty of bandwidth to the external SSD through the super-speed USB connection. Also the gigabit LAN is no bottleneck.

Yes, so long as you don't use a crap drive or one that is using a crap USB -> SATA chip.

I work on too much low end hardware, and some of the cost cutting things are really irksome.

Some of the newer low end external SSDs have worse performance then an older spinning drive.

Will try to order one or both of these 'cool'  Tongue cases from china. There are also options with fans but I really prefer passive cooling for something that is intended for 24/7 use.

Make sure that there is actual contact between the case and CPU in the proper area. Cheap cases suck.
Just scrapped a bunch of aluminum cases for the RPi3 that had enough space between the heatsinnk that was part of the case and the CPU itself that the thermal pad I put on the CPU was untouched on top Sad

Unless I am missing something, which is possible, a potential issue I see is that a few people with a lot of posts and merit can band together to keep a pet project on top.

Odds are it's not going to happen, and I might be 100% wrong on how I am reading it, but couldn't a band of a few high post / high merit legendary users keep the davecoin post on top?

Just did another purchase. Quick and smooth.

Minor points:
You are showing 13 decimal places a lot of the time instead of 8.

And the amount the coingate gives is slightly different then what you have.

Although that may be due to the time between clicking and entering my email and clicking again.
You might want to see if there is a way to lock the amount for 30 seconds or so.

6305  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The Essential NFL Thread 🏈🏈 - new poll every week on: September 10, 2019, 07:05:10 PM
I think sports bars are a dying trend.

I have found more and more (in my limited scope of talking to people across the county about football) that a lot of people are no longer watching live games / going to sports bars to watch / even going to the local bar to watch. They DVR it and watch it on their own time.

Last night was a perfect example, casual restaurant, 4 (5?) TVs all turned on to the games. Nobody, really watching. More glancing. Seems to be a trend.
I know I do it with racing. DVR the entire thing, FF though commercials, FF through the announcer babble, just watch the race.

-Dave

Where I'm from all bars are dieing or dead in the last 30 years. The politicians strong armed them all into putting cops at the doors at exorbitant rates so they couldn't afford to stay open. And of course it led to everyone getting pulled over every fucking night for those that wouldn't pay the extortion racket.

Wow, where are you? I'll have to keep away...

The issue around here is that big TVs have gotten cheap, and bars have stopped the cheap food and drinks during the game.

It used to be you could go with 4 or 5 or 6 friends, have some wings / nachos / bar food and hang out for a few hours for $30 to $40 AT MOST PER PERSON

Now at least in the middle of the road places you are looking at $50+ (tax / tip included)

6 people kicking in $35 each can go to someones house have better beer / get some decent (not great) food delivered / chips / etc. and watch on your own 50+ inch screen.
Want to rewind, click the button. Want to watch a different game for a few minutes fine.

Everyone puts in 10 minutes cleanup at the end as you leave and done.

Make a bit of a mess everyone kick in $10 for a cleaning person to show up for an hour during the week.

Funny anecdote: I just moved to a new city in the Philippines, found a white guy with an American accent who lived in my building, asked him where I could find a local sports bar that was open in the morning and played the NFL games. He was totally clueless. I was thinking to myself, what? An American, early-to-mid 50s, doesn't like the NFL? It turns out he's Canadian  Cheesy

metalmusiccoin,
Do you have access to the original domains? If not do you have the HTML / CSS from the site.
We can always get another domain and you can edit the 1st post.

Other than that getting the QT files to people is a pain,

-Dave

hi yes don't worry mate i will fix it soon. and thanks for the support.

Any update?
I know there is some interest in the coin because I have had a few people ping out to me to get the wallet files.
There is some mining activity and a lot of minting going on, so people are running it.
There are also a few places we might be able to get it listed if we tried.

Had not seen your thread before so I popped in and dropped some coin to play.
Smooth graphics and nice slots. Enjoyed what time I was here.
You should add a small faucet, or if you have one make it more obvious (I didn't see it)
A lot of people, myself included will pass on a casino if we can't play a bit for free 1st to see if it works for us.

Jets over Buffalo
Giants over Dallas (possibly the +7 is bit much)

No other thoughts other than that.
I'm actually more interested in the MotoAmerica Races in NJ this weekend.

-Dave

OK, so I was wrong on those 2.
Seriously I think the Giants were looking to loose.
I stopped watching it hurt too much.

But the races were good :-)

suchmoon pointed out this thread after I posted this:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5182672.msg52398949#msg52398949

And this a link to what I posted back in June:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5154576

DireWolfM14 / o_e_l_e_o you are both 100% correct in what you are saying, and with:
Quote
I include users whose ratings I want to see, and exclude those whose ratings I don't want to see

You do paint a good picture. And it's a good idea.

But, I still think we need to separate money from everything else.

I know it makes me look like a horrible human being when I say "I don't care if you are an ass, who is rude to people I only care if I can trust you with BTC"
But, with the system we have we are stuck with it.
Which is why I have been advocating for a separate "trade trust" and "forum trust and feedback" feature.

Because, if you can say "This person is a vile and disgusting human being, who is racist and homophobic and you really want to shower yourself off after dealing with them" is a fair thing to post (if it's true) BUT, in the marketplace / trading sections you should be able to see: "Did 5 trades with them totaling much money, deal was fine every time" then I think this would be a better place. There are people not leaving honest trust because of social political reasons. Having straight trade info, and nothing more would

As a perfect example IRL.
I think anti-vaxers are morons who should be eliminated from the gene pool.
I just sold one of them my old dirt bike. I don't hang out with him, I don't really talk to him, and I think he is an idiot.
But, he showed up on time, brought a friend with a trailer, had the agreed amount of cash, gave it the quick once over and loaded it up and left.
This is real life, we are not in a bubble. There are billions of people on this planet, we are going to have opposing views with a lot of them.
It's nice to know in advance, who has views we disagree with, but we can still trust to do what they say.

I know I have been saying we need trade trust for a long time that is independent of everything else.

I'm not getting much traction, but I will keep saying it.

During that time I will probably do what was suggested and "include users whose ratings I want to see, and exclude those whose ratings I don't"

Thanks for reading my rant (again)

-Dave

6313  Other / Meta / Re: [NSFW] - phisical violence in DT - "not safe for work" content on: September 08, 2019, 07:34:12 PM
Back in June when I posted this:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5154576
I was hoping that DT1  / DT2 drama would calm down a bit.

Guess I was wrong.

The issue is IMO and continues to be we are trying to take several complex issues and shrink them down to merit & trust & feedback.
There are several members of this board (one of whom is on my trust list) that I can't fucking stand and think they are an ass.
But I trust them not to rip you off. I would not want to go out for a beer with them. I would not want to hang out with them.
Here on the board, I can post and comment with them and say with 99.999% confidence that they will not rip you off.
I have bought from them, I have sold to them. 0 issues.

This is because we have a limited way of doing this so we work with what we have.

It's also why after creating my trust list I have slowed down adding people because it requires more thought.

That is also why there are some people NOT on my trust list. Going back though years of posts, they are VERY VERY helpful, and polite, and VERY VERY useful to the forum.
They fight scams and protect newbies. BUT...they have not bought or sold a thing.
How can you trust them? They should have a lot of merit (which they do), but they also have a lot of positive trust and feedback (which are linked).
Trust? You have had 0 money dealings on the forum So while I trust you to fight scams, we have no idea if you are an honest trader.
They should have a lot of good feedback comments about them, but trust. Sorry no.

Which is why, going back to the post I referenced above, I think we NEED more data points.

Yeah, I know a lot of you disagree with what I am saying. But I think many of you don't notice how much trading goes on here and how desperate we are to know if we can trust the other people.

What is kind of funny (or sad depending on how you look at it) was why I for GB.

I can't put my finger on it, just watching them preseason was like watching a well put together show.

It looked to me that any of them could have been in the locker room during practice, stuck on the toilet due to a bad burrito for dinner the day before, but he knew exactly where everyone else was on the field.

Can't explain it beyond that.

6316  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos.Fake conversations becoming a serious issue. on: September 08, 2019, 02:10:54 PM
I posted something similar about fake conversations with sig spammers last month:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5164260.msg52191148#msg52191148

Yes I am a hypocrite since I am wearing a sig and posting here, but looking through other bumped threads it is very similar.

So, instead of a sig, if they get $0.25 a bump and you have 4 accounts that are all you talking to each other it's easy to make a couple of dollars an hour talking about the weather.

You can ban sigs, you can't ban bumping. You can't even slow it down w/o permabans and more mods.

The other issue remains of if you penalize threads that have more then a certain percentage of removed posts, how quickly will people message bomb threads they don't like with newbie disposable accounts to hurt the OP of the thread.

No idea on a good solution other than more mods removing messages and more bans but as I said above. If I they can't make money bumping, they might go away.

Seems to be a few less players then the last few times I was here, but it could just be the time of day.

I can now verify that it works.
I added some coin, and went to my local ATM that does not charge a fee and took out $20.

So, at least for the US people it's good. If you want me to check other countries send me enough BTC for a flight and I'll check it for you  Grin Grin Grin

6319  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How many times have you gone against majority on: September 07, 2019, 01:52:48 PM
Many times. In a lot of smaller events that have limited betting, it's easier to look at something and think "They are not seeing 'x'" I'm going the other way.
Usually, because the book does not put in the time & effort to get it closer to what it should be, because there is not enough money in it to bother. They make their vig either way. So they are not loosing, just not making as much. (So long as enough bets are coming in for the other side)

In larger events like, boxing, football, tennis etc. Not as much, because the odds are usually accurate.

Looks like blockchain.com is not showing the hashrate for huobi.pool, novablock and one or two others. It's just dumping them into the unknown pile.
