Thank you for the feedback hilariousetc, I broadly agree with you. If somebody wants to part with some of their BTC holdings they can always find a good cause to donate to.

If anybody does make any donation no matter how unlikely of 10 BTC, do you know what will happen to those funds?

The new forum never was released, maybe work is still on-going but has it ever been made public how much forum staff get paid? Even with those expenses including web hosting fees was there any indication ever given about how much BTC are in the kitty and what plans are in place to use them either in the short or long term?

I believe theymos has mentioned what happens to it somewhere, but broadly speaking it likely just goes into the forum 'pot' to pay for forum expenses like servers and mods etc. However, the forum had millions in reserves years back when the value was sub 10k so I have no idea how much the forum holds now so the forum probably doesn't need the money like theymos has mentioned, but like I said before any money donated could be given to charity and it's a win win as there are multiple benefits to letting people buy a title that comes with the benefits of a higher account. There is a thread somewhere with all the forum treasurers and how much they hold so most of the money is public and a while back theymos did post a list of expenses but I think that was a couple of years ago. The new forum software is still in development but I have no idea what stage it's in, who's doing it or how much it costs. Around 10k per month total is paid to staff. I don't know the exact algorithm used to calculate payments but basically a very active Global mod can get around $1500 a month and a very active patroller or local board mod can get around $500. If you do nothing you'll get nothing. If you do a little you'll get a little.

-   Animated signatures.

Ability to add animated avatars and even images (regardless of size) in signatures was removed so not sure how that would pass.

I don't think images would be a big deal and could be one of the benefits of the highest donator tier. I think they were originally removed along with gifs for being too flashy/distracting or something, but signature designs have evolved over the years and many of them can be pretty flashy so I don't think there would be much difference between images and bbcodes really. I think people found a loophole on the avatars as well as some of them are animated.

wasnt one reason animated gifs in avatars were remove was because of the cosby hack? or was that something else.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=42549.0

edit: im sure i messed the quotes up; my apologies

I don't think it was anything to do with animated avatars specifically, but uploading any avatar, though looking at this post below by theymos it seems it wasn't the reason for the hack anyway:

It was initially suspected by many that the attack was done by exploiting a flaw in SMF which allows you to upload any file to the user avatars directory, and then using a misconfiguration in nginx to execute this file as a PHP script. However, this attack method seems impossible if PHP's security.limit_extensions is set.

Unless that's a different hack.

Footing the current price of the market the 10BTC is not even a million dollars and speaking of some Bitcoin millionaire lurking around the forum or once make a contribution in the forum at some point, I believe there are some Bitcoin millionaires among the wall observer poster cause they seems to be serious investors.
Why would anybody feel the need to donate to this forum? I am happy for those that want to donate but right now 1 BTC = $56,000 so no matter how many BTC somebody has what would be their logic for donating to this forum or any other forum? What would they achieve and what would the forum treasurers do with those funds? There was a time when donations were asked for and donations maybe were needed but when I look at benefits of donating versus not donating - there is not much reason for anybody to donate.

Well, why do people donate to things like crowdfunding? Often there's rewards and benefits and people are suggesting donating will come with the benefits of higher ranks like Senior and Hero etc. Theymos has said in the past that the forum doesn't need any more money, but even if the forum doesn't need the money it could be given to charity or something.
643  Other / Meta / Re: Get Donator status by donating 10 BTC on: March 12, 2021, 10:08:23 AM
I remember you telling in the past you brought it up to theymos in the staff board, any luck yet?     And I quite vividly remember discussing the potential benefits that these new ranks could include, that too years ago. Oh well. We can only keep discussing about it.

No. I stopped making suggestions because little seems to be done and I didn't want to annoy theymos with constant requests. There are plenty of threads both public and private with a lot of good suggestions so it's just up to whether theymos implements them or not.

Similar ideas were raised by many people, and afaik theymos commented publicly (~somewhere~) about this and didn't seem particularly enthused.

I created the Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them) thread a while back: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4893744.0

And theymos did post in there somewhere with his opinions on them. Think they were separated into three categories like yes, no, maybe so you can see where he stands on certain things.

Don't forget there's a game on tonight. A lot of people miss these Friday evening kick offs and 24 people have yet to make their picks.

Man City recovered well as I expected they would. It’s what good teams do, they respond to defeats. There is no doubt City will become champions this season. I do hope they get knocked out of the CL though Wink

Well they're going to be hard to beat given that they've got a 14 point gap against second place United, but don't write Man United off yet (as much as I dislike them). United beating City at home was impressive. They have a game in hand as well. Don't overlook Leicester or Chelsea either in third and fourth place and respectively only one and four points behind second place United. Leicester and City are playing each other early next month as well. If  Leicester can grab the full three points from that it might make things interesting.

Went for a risky 5-0 last night and City got the 5 exactly but I didn't expect Southampton to score. Would have won this round without those two goals.
I too did not expect two goals from Southampton, my guess was 3 - 0 to win for City.

Penalties can always happen like they did in this game but I still don't think it should have been one.

#hateVAR #WTF_VAR

How is that tackle from Saints goalkeeper on Foden not a penalty. This has started to be a total travesty in Premier League. There is no advantage rule for fouls in penalty area so this must be a penalty even though Foden tried to finish the chance. What message are you giving to the players with decisions like this? Fall down, yell like you have been shot and then you will get penalty. I am not blaming the main ref so much but whole VAR room should get sacked after apologizing to City  Grin

City is good enough to win even without that penalty but this just gets ridiculous.

Yeah, that was a blatant penalty but it's another one of those situations where if the player had gone down and stayed down it likely would have been given and that's why players get rewarded for diving because if you stay up it's never given. VAR should have given that on review though and I'm not sure why they didn't. The Southampton one didn't look like a penalty to me at all. It looks like he just threw himself to the ground and because there was apparently minimal contact of the City player having his hand on their shoulder a penalty is given. All this stuff does is encourage diving.

Two tough games to pick tonight. Both sets of teams might end up cancelling each other out.

It was the same for me. I was going with 2 - 1 for Liverpool but that match finished with 1 - 0. Today we have match against Fulham and again it's in Anfield. These days Anfield scares me and I have gone with another Liverpool win by knowing that we have very high probability of losing again.

Liverpool going to win this one for sure. I mean how bad could Liverpool turn into, its only Fulham though. If it was another team, I would probably go for draw but its Fulham and there is no way Liverpool going to pass this good opportunity for 3 points. Im going for 2-0 for Liverpool and I think Jota might score in this match  Tongue

@hilariousandco : What did you drink or eat before you make this score prediction lol ? 3 exact scores and 1 close score out of 5 matches, thats a great way to start this round and at this rate you might make it to top ten soon

Well I was pretty surprised myself. Didn't do great on the others but I'm seeing most didn't back Liverpool or City to lose and at home as well.

I dont think klopp will leave that easily liverpool he got them their first title in 20 + years and a champions league title
One bad season wont get him sacked

As for todays points, got only 1 Sad
I just cant catch a break

Ranieri was sacked. I agree they shouldn't sack him but the culture in football today is to get rid of managers ASAP once they're falling down the table. He's obviously a bigger manager so will likely be given a lot more leeway then say teams facing relegation but how long can this form go on for before the board starts talking?

They will not let Klopp go, this is the first problematic period of his Liverpool tenure so far. I'm more afraid he'll go himself if we don't qualify for CL and the owners start talking about rebuilding rather than going for top players.

Klopp said he was always interested in the Germany national team job, but that he would ideally like it a bit later in his career. I hope we don't drive him away with stupid decisions because the national team will be calling him for sure for Euro 2021.

He'll almost certainly get the Germany job at some point, but yeah, most national team duties tend to be in the twilight years of a managers career.
647  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: March 06, 2021, 08:18:38 PM
I didn't expect Arsenal to not be able to win today especially after they beat Leicester easily.I got 0 points so far from the first two games as I expected a Sheffield United win because their form recently has been more convincing than that of Southampton for me.Another round without the yellow cap for me so let's see what happen next as not that many rounds are available until the end of the season.

@hilariousetc I already said that picking a lot of draws can either bring you up the table considerably or bring you down considerably,so far for you is working well.

Yeah, they're risky but most people seem to like backing a winner rather than a stalemate. It just paid off again for me on the Villa/Wolves game as I was the only person to go with a 0-0 which are always the rarest scores to go for I think. Currently leading this round but will probably get overtaken with the game on now. Gone for a narrow 1-0 away win to Leicester but they're currently 1-0 down to Brighton. Only four people have backed the home win. Manchester derby is the game to watch tomorrow I think. Maybe Liverpool/Fulham as well but just to see how they get on as I think it could be a boring one.
648  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: March 06, 2021, 04:11:31 PM
Woop, correct score on the first game. Hoping for another good week. Went for a 0-0 on the Sheffield United/Southampton game that's on now and the Saints are up by one but hoping United can claw one back and make it a draw.

I’m trying to be clever this round by picking Liverpool vs Fullham, 1 - 1.  Lol.  Grin  I have nothing to lose now, with me outside the top 20.  And missing the first match of the weekend didn’t help.  Meh...  I was looking at 0 - 2 for Burnley vs Arsenal.

Just going for free bets now...

I've gone for a Liverpool win but I could totally see a draw here the way they've been playing. If they drop points in that game it's going to be pretty disastrous for them. I wonder how long they can keep it up before Klopp goes. I'm not a fan of clubs sacking mangers after a rut and I don't think they should get rid of him regardless of where they finish in the end but the culture of ditching managers has become pretty toxic. I wonder if there's been any managers other than Ranieri that have won the league then been sacked the season after?
649  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WoodCollector]Nine Public Coin Collection Completed on: March 04, 2021, 04:52:14 PM

Regarding the YouTube video I did watch it back then without realizing the importance it would mean to me now. I do remember thinking that it didn't prove or disprove anything and I just disregarded it at the time. I believe he took it down himself for his own safety. It was brought to my attention some time in 2018 / 2019 when I was purchasing the wooden Scam Busted piece that there was a crackteam of forum members tracking WoodCollector through all the public information he was posting and everything else they could gather. I saw pictures of his supposed house and was given other links to very personal information. Along with the Culture Cultivation piece and the CoA I posted earlier I received the full packing slip dox of WoodCollector. The member that sent it had made it public but I asked him to take it down, though this wasn't the first time I had seen the same dox. I decided against my own investigation into the name on the packing slip but one day I probably will be bored and see what I can find.

There's an update to the woodcollector saga here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5321663.msg56490105#msg56490105

I'm fairly sure that's our guy. I was going to post it in here but it has names and addresses in it so needs to be Investigations. You should probably shoot him a message on his facebook accounts and see if he's willing to come clean or at least explain some of his behaviour. Doubt he will but it's worth a shot if you're still looking for that other coin  Grin (but I'm almost certain it doesn't exist and it was just some elaborate scam he was pulling).
650  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: March 04, 2021, 12:38:33 PM
I dunno. Getting two correct scores is decent enough and at 9.5 points it puts you about mid table of this round so better than nothing.
Something is very interesting on the leader-board, tomahawk9 is still leading and I am not sure how many weeks since he is at the top place. There are not much point distance in between top 10 users too. As we stand now, kryptqnick with 226.50 and tomahawk9 with 251.50

You can see the table updated by each round if you go to the leaderboard and click the pinkish banner at the top. I just checked. He's remarkably been number one since round 5. He's only won the yellow cap once so I think that's probably proof that consistency is key and slow and steady wins the race. How long can he stay there?  Grin As you said it's pretty close at the top as it usually is but there's quite a gap of 25 points between 1st and 10th place. Doesn't seem like much but you need a couple of exceptional rounds and hope those above you don't.
651  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: March 04, 2021, 12:05:13 PM
Did anyone win any points today?

This is just sad ,leicester drawed, sheffield won,who got points today is extremely lucky

Even manchester united flopping now...disguasting Undecided

I didn't get any either. Went with all 0-1 away wins. Conradicals got the first two games scores right though which bumped him up quite a way. I said they would be close games and likely would be draws but the teams were too hard to split for me. Today's three games could be tricky as well. Spurs and Everton should win but away maybe they'll slip up like teasm did yesterday,.

How is everyone here?
I really did not care much last few weeks and seeing myself still in top 10 is bit surprising. We lost hope for the title race. Boys are not in their game. So this season is kinda boring lately for me.

I guess one of the worse round I am in on the pool?

This image should prove it.

Anyway, we are going to play against Chelsea and are we going to end with another Anfield disaster?

I dunno. Getting two correct scores is decent enough and at 9.5 points it puts you about mid table of this round so better than nothing.
652  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have an old laptop I purchased used in 2011 on: March 03, 2021, 12:35:48 PM
I have an old gaming laptop that I purchased used in early 2011. I reformatted the hard drive at least once with windows, used it for maybe a year, and its been dormant since 2012.  The chances are slim to none, however, before I chuck the laptop I thought it would be a good idea to at least see if there may have been a bitcoin wallet on the hard drive. Is there any easy way of doing this? Or totally pointless.

This is silly. It's almost certainly pointless and futile. This is akin to buying a random plot of land and spending a lot of time and effort digging it all up in the hope that you might find some long-lost buried treasure. If you like the phantasy idea of searching for buried treasure that probably isn't going to be there then go ahead but we all know this is going to be a waste of time. Lets say in some bizarre circumstance you do actually manage to restore the drive to it's previous state, the chances of a bitcoin wallet being there are slim to none. And even if you found one then what if you can't crack the password, which you won't be able to if it's a very strong one. And then maybe you do manage to crack the password... What's to say the coins haven't already been spent or there was never any money on there in the first place.
653  Other / Meta / Re: Get Donator status by donating 10 BTC on: March 03, 2021, 12:24:12 PM
Maybe is it time for the price of Donator and VIP ranks to reduce? I know this has been discussed before but then again the price at that time was nowhere close to what it is now.

Please if not that, new rank roles??? Let's discuss!

I think it is fine not to change this at all.

We all know that it is so expensive to be a VIP here but that would be that member's decision and not ours.

If they can afford it, then they are a VIP. I think the VIP members are also thinking that 10 BTC in the past is just expensive as it is now. Spending 10 BTC for the said advantages or privileges is for them to decide.

Theymos has said he won't lower the price of those ranks and I think they should be left be as they are, however, I've long been a proponent of adding more titles such as Silver and Gold Memberships that come with the benefits of higher ranks like Full and Hero Member etc. There's multiple benefits to having them in my opinion such as curbing account farming and lessening the market for accounts as people would just buy the title rather than risk buying a dodgy account on the black market. Most people probably struggle to get a high amount of merit these days and the number of people signing up to the forum that will achieve a high rank will probably be very low and will usually only happen to exceptional users so I think paying to skip the queue would be useful in these situations. The higher tier one could maybe allow you to charge your name once as I know that's often something people want. There's plenty of other benefits that could be included as well.
654  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: March 03, 2021, 12:05:38 PM
I have to say I am quite happy to see myself joint top with our captain on the leaderboard for this week:) I had the first few close games that I picked a score with one extra goal,,, but nice to see 0-0 picks hit exact and close:)

I'm surprised. Didn't really expect to do well this round. I wonder if the points record will be beaten this week. 9.5 points more are needed for us to equal tokeweed's current best of 25 and there's six games left in this megaround.

Leicester has a lot of injured players so they are not at full power against Burnley tonight.Burnley has won three of the last four games against Leicester,I was going to back up a Leicester win but I think it will end in a draw. The other two games of tonight should have no surprises.

Today's games could be quite tricky. I think I'll stick to my original plan of narrow away wins but there's gotta be a draw in there I think and the Leicester match is probably the closest to likely happen. I'll wait for the line-ups though as I think Vardy is still playing. If he isn't then I probably would go with a draw.
655  Other / Meta / Re: Should all scam busting techniques be made public? on: March 03, 2021, 11:54:37 AM
I think this is the negative side of putting up a scam accusation/reputation thread is that you also come up to how were you able to bust the scam down because without providing enough evidence then you won't really put up a convincing story against who you are accusing.

You have to be able to provide evidence and people should be free to try refute it if they can (and sometimes people do get it wrong or use faulty logic or evidence etc and that's where others can chime in with their opinions or more evidence). Imagine you went to court being accused of something and they didn't show their evidence but just told you you were guilty. That wouldn't fly. If we had a hidden board here it would just be some sort of shady secret court and if someone has done something wrong then it should be exposed and you naturally have to lay out your evidence as part of the process. It should be common sense for most people to not do certain things if they don't want to get caught but that's why it's always going to be cat and mouse and looking for where people slipped up because many do at some point along the way. Criminals know about DNA evidence and other ways they can be tracked but they still leave DNA or get caught on CCTV or triangulated via their self phone of car or whatever but once they do get caught the powers that be still have to prove it even if it exposes their methods which most people should be aware of anyway.

So not really worried if some people do abuse the information, I am sure they will be caught one way or another. When you have LoyceV, TryNinja and Vod, the community dont got to worry all that much.  Cheesy

Maybe get them on the case of satoshi?  Grin. If you're smart enough it's probably not that hard to be a ghost here.
656  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: March 02, 2021, 01:20:10 PM
It looks like you got a point from the City game though as it looks to be one of your deferred picks:

Yeah , I just noticed this as well. Well its all good, getting 1 point is better than nothing. Btw I think Def stands for Default .

I could have sworn I saw superbru refer to them as deferred picks, but default makes more sense.

So we have another game tonight, Everton taking on Southampton. Couple of weeks ago I would have think this one should be tough for Everton due to their poor home record but now when they have all their best players ready and back from injury (Digne, Allan, Rodriguez, Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison) while Southampton has lost their good form this should be much easier. Saints are also missing a couple of important players like Kyle Walker-Peters, Theo Walcott and Takumi Minamino so I am expecting a comfortable win for Everton, maybe even with handicap.

I also have a big bet on Everton to win @2.2 with Supetboost on Sportsbet so keeping fingers crossed.

I got that score right and seem to be on a bit of a roll this round sitting currently in second place only half a point behind Leea-1334. City should easily beat Wolves tonight. The rest of the games are a little bit trickier though and think I might go for mostly away wins. I'm sure there'll be some draws in there though.
657  Economy / Reputation / Re: TecShare - Farewell my friend. on: March 02, 2021, 01:15:07 PM
Many folks here have had political disagreements with Tecshare, and once again I would urge people to be respectful.  This has turned into a eulogy thread, and in my opinion it's not place for "I told you so."  Your thoughts have already been cataloged in countless threads about those subjects.

I think this just highlights how much people are divided politically, not just here but in the world and both sides will hate each other based on nothing but a slight difference in beliefs. So much animosity and people are still carrying it even though he's gone. The right vs left and the arrogance on both far sides is going to do some real damage in the future.

I'm not sure if Theymos will read this message, but since we're talking about unity, I think it makes sense to give a Custom Title "In memoriam" not only to TS but also to Zepher, Hal and Phinnaeus Gage, (let's see what happens with this idea).

If I recall correctly Phinnaeus Gage was given a special title of some sort, but then his account magically re-appeared so it was removed, but this highlights the issue of doing things like this. It's going to be very hard to verify that people have passed away, especially when most people here are anonymous or like to keep their personal info to themselves as much as they can. It could be abused in the future as well if all it takes is a person or two to 'confirm' that someone had died but I don't think it should be done unless there's some verifiable proof, but I think it's best to just let accounts be in most cases.
658  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: March 01, 2021, 03:24:17 PM
2-0 LFC, that will do me. Far from vintage LFC but with all the injuries our target is now top 4. Lots of our rivals for top 4 dropping points so a pretty good weekend for Liverpool.

Chelsea at Anfield next, will be a tougher test.

It was looking a bit dicey for a bit there going into the second half at 0-0. Chelsea game is a tough one, especially as they held United to a 0-0 stalemate. Could see the same thing happening there as well. Chelsea haven't lost in their last ten games (in all competitions) and with Liverpool's form still very bad at Afield I don't think I'd back them to win so maybe a draw is the best bet here. There isn't really any exciting games other than that one this week but the next round there's the Manchester derby. Maybe United could take some points away from City but away I don't think they'll manage to grab more than one.
659  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: February 28, 2021, 12:07:47 PM
^  I got Liverpool to win 1 - 0.

And I just made the rest of my picks.  I feel like there’s gonna be a lot of draws and the unders are def at play here, esp for the clubs that played mid week at the CL and the Europa League.

Dude, if we can’t beat Sheff Utd we might as well give up until next season Cheesy
It’s the form we’re in though when you doubt you can beat a crap team like Sheff Utd.

What will be will be, I’ll be supporting win, lose or draw.

I might watch this game. Could be real trouble if Liverpool don't win but I think they easily should even with all their problems. Sheffield are on back to back losses at Fulham and West Ham and are sitting at the bottom of the table so it's going to have to be a real shit show if they don't come away with all three points here.

Even with you not making 3 picks, the best I've been able to accumulate so far is 1.5 points  Angry Angry

I bet you cant beat me on this !

For the record, I forgot to make score prediction for Manchester City. I would have gone for 2-0 on the first match so it should be atleast 1.5 points for me as well

It looks like you got a point from the City game though as it looks to be one of your deferred picks:

You're on the leader-board with a point as well. Yesterday was a tricky one and I'm surprised I managed to get 3 points.
660  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: February 25, 2021, 01:17:01 PM
^  Funny how sports journos are mostly quiet about City’s run.  Aren’t they breaking the record for most consecutive wins or something?

Anyway, I’d like to see them win the CL.  I hope Pep doesn’t tweak with his strategy too much like what he did vs Lyon last year.  Lawl.

I think a lot of people have been sleeping on them including myself for some reason. I didn't realise they've only lost two games but at the same time I don't think they've been playing truly exceptional and maybe it's just because Liverpool have been doing so poorly people have been overlooking them.

@Trofo @hilarious: Leeds-Southampton definitely BTTS, I'm just wondering if it'll be a win or draw, as both might like to share points. Sportsbet has a correct score boost of 20% so I might throw something down on 1:1... though the likeliest score according to the odds is a 1:0 Leeds outcome...
Went as expected with VAR overruling penalty for Saints while it was still 0:0. It was soft and I can't bitch it was a mistake but those VAR calls always go against what I need from the game. #hateVAR

Did not watch the game but looking at the stats, Saints had a lot of chances to score at least one goal but it was not meant to be.

I watched the game. Southampton did deserve a goal and the scoreline tells a different story from what actually happened really. That penalty was a dive for sure though. From a couple of angles it looked like a penalty for sure so I'm glad VAR came good on this decision, but they didn't actually show the best angle on VAR which would have been a lot more helpful for the ref to make a decision.

Damn, next round has 17 games in it? Grin

Some tough ones to call but in general, one of the easiest ones for me in the last few months or so. Leicester win vs Arsenal seems like a great bet to take @~2.50 odds as well.

I think we could probably see a new high scorer in this round round, especially with 17 games.
