I solemnly swear that I haven't and have no intention to

While that's up to you, the man is looking to be on the up and up with the law, so lets see if we can give him some examples.

Personally I haven't... haven't played the speculating game or sold too many, just buying them and using those to buy other things. I'll keep my eye open though for people talking about it!

Oh I am all for the law abiding citizens. I don't know if you realize it but you are already paying for the "privilege" of using their wonderful currency when you receive money from your employer, when you fill up the tank, and for everything else you buy. Actually every second you are holding paper note in your hand - YOU ARE PAYING THEM! And while it's fine in a sort of evil twisted way, because it is their system, I draw the line with Bitcoin. If I made some money with bitcoin, I am keeping it. I'd much rather give it to people who are making this possible.
Governments are redundant concept, they are parasitic entities and it's about time people realize this. And before you say that we need them, let me tell ya - we don't! And you know how I know this - every time they stop fucking around with economy, things start getting better. We are WAAAAYY better off without their "solutions".

But you are right it's the wrong topic. Promise not to do that again(fingers crossed behind my back Smiley )

647  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining in UK/EU. Hardware info on: May 12, 2011, 07:34:18 PM
At the moment I have a single 5870 and another 5850 should be with me soon. My decision regarding psu is so I have the option of adding more cards. Ideally, I'd like to buy a motherboard capable of supporting 3 cards and once the first two pay for themselves I'll add more. But it again depends - maybe it's cheaper to buy 2 mobo's with 2xpcie. In general I'm looking for advice what short/long term mining strategies are most efficient.
648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Cannot access wallet.dat on: May 12, 2011, 07:17:10 PM
Firstly you need to back up your wallet to a safe place on your HDD or flash drive.
DO NOT EDIT WALLET.DAT WITH A TEXTEDITOR

Then do the following:

1. Uninstall the client
2. Download the current version from bitcoin.org
3. Install it
4. Copy your backed up wallet to \Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin\
5. Start the new client and wait until blockchain is up to date

You should see the correct balance.

Mining seems quite addictive, so I'm here once again looking for your help.

I would like to build a dedicated mining rig.
For the psu I chose this

What are the cheapest options for 2+ cards motherboard and processor here in UK/EU? I'll be using 5870/5850s if that matters

I noticed that in USA hardware is very cheap in comparison to UK, so I would like to know maybe there are some places in EU where prices are more reasonable?

651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are you going to do, when (if) bitcoin hit $1000/BTC? on: May 12, 2011, 02:09:17 AM
Is possible that sometime 1btc=U$S1000?

Which are the chances?

Well just do the math yourself:
How many people there are?
How many bitcoins there are?
How many bitcoins would a single person want/would be able to obtain?

After few simply calculations, you'll figure out the value
652  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Maximum number of bitcoins on: May 12, 2011, 12:55:44 AM
People also proposed the µBTC and mBTC, but for some reason i think these won't work. Perhaps because "normal" (non-geeky) people don't really know names of all SI units.

Well maybe these people ought to become really normal and learn to add a couple new words to their dictionaries once in awhile

657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are you going to do, when (if) bitcoin hit $1000/BTC? on: May 11, 2011, 11:34:57 PM

We need a pass-phrase exchange to get on The Island:

1)
Query; "How goes the bitcoin mining?"
Answ: "Does it worth it?"

2)
Query; "Are you ever gonna spend those bitcoin on anything?"
Answ: "Hookers and blow"

3)
Query: "Nothing more valuable than bitcoin."
Answ: "Nothing except carrots"

Phrases can be, and should be, asked in random order and need to be letter perfect.

Gonna tattoo that on my forehead  Grin

659  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is there any way to tell if you have set up solo minig correctly? on GUIMINER? on: May 11, 2011, 09:37:06 PM
If your miner accepted password, is communicating with the client  and is getting work, it probably is a good indication that it's working. Miners don't just go: "oh this is so interesting - I'll just pluck the numbers from the thin air and hash them"
