681  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [UPDATED]: The OFFICIAL SegWit2x Lock-in Thread on: July 24, 2017, 09:20:34 AM
why exactly is it called "lock-in" phase ?

Lock-in can be called an intent period, an intent to activate a future event. The intent gets locked-in.

If I am right then there is lock-in period, grace period, and then activation.

BIP141 (Segwit) requires 95% (1916 from 2016 blocks) of hashpower to get locked-in.

After locked-in it's two weeks grace period.

After grace period it's activation.

Segwit is expected to be locked-in by August 10 and be activated by August 23.
682  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [UPDATED]: The OFFICIAL SegWit2x Lock-in Thread on: July 24, 2017, 08:11:48 AM
SEGWIT LOCK-IN PERIOD:
Lock-in in this period? No
483 blocks before current lock-in period ends. Still 959 blocks needed for a lock-in.
62.4% SegWit blocks mined in this lock-in period.

https://www.xbt.eu/

Can someone explain what going on? I thought its already locked in but why the website says "NO"?

BIP91 was locked in and activated not Segwit (BIP141).

BIP91 was an alternative to activate Segwit by lowering the signalling threshold to 80% from 95% of BIP141 (Segwit)

Right now Segwit wouldn't get locked in this period because 959 blocks are required while only 483 blocks are left and the percentage is 62.4%, 95% is required.

After this there are seven more activation periods, http://segwit.co/

683  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Making a living off of bitcoin faucets, is it actually possible? on: July 24, 2017, 07:24:04 AM
Some years back I started using bitcoin faucets before I really knew what they were and I made a few bucks in a short amount of time but stopped as I did not find it to be a good way to make a decent profit. I have seen people claim to make a living off of bitcoin faucets, is it actually possible?

1. Faucets are a medium to introduce newbies to bitcoins. You wouldn't be able to make a living out of claiming from faucets, the time spent is simply not worth the rewards. Even you will earn three times the amount you collect from faucets daily by doing simple microtasks which requires only basic skills and can be finished in a few minutes.

2. There are some good old faucets and if you are good at promoting your faucet referral links then yeah you can earn a passive income through faucets.
684  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's Core's stance on the upcoming 2MB block size increase in November? on: July 23, 2017, 12:42:24 PM
BIP91 is now active which not only means that we're getting SegWit, but also an increase in block size.
What does Core think of this compromise?
Will there be 3 forks of Bitcoin by November? (Segwit+2MB, Segwit, BCC)

BCC has nothing to do with the main bitcoin network, like the previous forks, XT, Classic, and BU, BCC is another implementation of Bitcoin Core, separate blockchain, another altcoin.

Hardforking the whole network to increase block size requires a great deal of planning, whole consensus needs to be changed, not backwards compatible so for the time being what matters is Segwit activation and if everything goes well bitcoin network would have Segwit by the end of August.

If I am right a hard fork event requires super majority and if by November all the nodes are willing to replace the existing client with BTC1 then the network would be hard forked, if a few nodes support then we would have another altcoin, again nothing to do with the main network. Or the hard fork event would be postponed to another date, maybe a year from now. There is couple of months to ponder about an hard fork event.

Its sadly not just another alt.

Its an alt for exactly reuse of the expensive ASICs, that were a major part of keeping the Nash Equilibrium in place.

Now, there is a new attack vector open that haven't been there in that quality. This attack vector increases with the value and usability of the BCC.

The following points does sound logical to me, but maybe not from another's person's perspective.

1. I have read that ASICBoost (covert) was the main reason (I am not sure if there is any truth in it) Bitmain was against Segwit.

2. BIP148 proposal and to activate it on August 1 has to be one of the main reasons Segwit2x was deployed before July 22, obviously a split would be chaotic to the whole community.

3. Bitmain's UASF contingency plan was UAHF. Only if Segwit2x fails and BIP148 is deployed then there would be an UAHF. So now it looks almost certain that Segwit would be activated through Segwit2x then what is the point of UAHF on August 1? There is a possibility of hard fork in November, big blocks, understandable.

4.
Quote
Bitcoin ABC is a full node implementation of the Bitcoin
protocol. We have removed the controversial SegWit code

The thing here is ABC doesn't want Segwit, maybe because of point 1. And not agreeing with the current turn of events/consensus and forking off is what altcoin does.

5. I personally don't agree with this premined and frozen BTC stuff, looks a bit fishy.

6. Nash equilibrium, no player has anything to gain by changing only his own strategy. Is UAHF a player in this game? If so then UAHF is a change in strategy, maybe for a short-term gain or like you aptly said to reuse of the expensive ASICs, no big block sentiments here, avoid Segwit for the sake of ASICs.

Is it the same agenda behind the hard fork on November?

686  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoins Receivable from the Yobit on: July 23, 2017, 11:20:38 AM
Hello folks,

I have gone through some informative articles, threads and videos and I have read that it is better to hold bitcoins in the address in which we have the keys.

However, my concern is I have some Bitcoins on 1broker, localbitcoins and yobit (which I am going to withdraw on my offline wallet for a while) but my concern is, I have some bitcoins receivable from the yobit as signature campaign earnings so I wanted to ask that, what can I do about it?

It is a regular process that sometimes their wallet balance becomes nil and it takes some days to refill that wallet from their side so what will happen if they couldn't refill it before the fork? I am asking about the accrued earnings which are not received yet.

Best,
Thanks in advance

Dudeperfect

I was in YoBit campaign for some time, even without this current uncertainty YoBit hot wallet does dry up sometimes, a couple of times they refilled their wallet only after four weeks.

Right now Bitmixer has temporarily hold the campaigners payments maybe because of this uncertainty and as we near August 1 I guess most of the Sig campaign payments would be put on hold until there is no uncertainty.

Your acquired YoBit Sig earnings doesn't go missing. If they didn't refill before August 1, then you have to wait till they refill it.

If you blame the drugs, you give these guys a free pass on their behavior.

I can assure you, it has nothing to do with marijuana and everything to do with their upbringing.

Absolutely, it has nothing to do with these guys being high or drunk. Blame their upbringing which failed to make them humans. We see such instances daily, road accidents, we see and just walk away thinking why should we when that person is no one to us, why should we, let someone else step in, why should we get involved in any legal issues, lack of humanity. The same thing here, but much worse since apart from these retards there were no other people around who could have helped a disabled drowning man and on top of that these lunatics are mocking and enjoying a human getting drowned, pathetic, lack of absolute humanity, no value for human life.
688  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Please Help on: July 23, 2017, 08:23:40 AM
somebody should tell me what's going with my blockchain.info wallet, yesterday I received some BTC from a dice site, safedice.com transaction here
https://blockchain.info/tx/b561da85210c47010e289dc50e452b68593a146b835500cefefca0ccd1842e53
After about 4 hours I received the money  it disappeared from my wallet to this address
https://blockchain.info/address/1HWTRhzkNXaHcGGcCtxS9gVcKS5pkNQe59
And I don't initiate any transfer,,I don't store my wallet ID online.... and the funniest part of it is that I received .01694008 BTC is still the total disappeared leaving the .00003288 BTC  that is there before.. I'm confused I need help

Obviously your blockchain wallet got hacked. Always use a strong password and 2FA authentication. Now the hacker has the private keys of this address, 16Xdh8p7tdeQ446FJmuZ2T6QoNWTuZQNsW, stop using this address and if you have multiple addresses in your blockchain wallet then all of them.

Generate a new address, but before that change your password and enable 2FA.

PS: Blockchain is a bit buggy, but in terms of security it is good, have been using it for three years, no hacks, nothing. If you are using a weak password then you will get hacked no matter which wallet you are going to use.

3- If I was the thief, I would take everything. Leaving dust behind make no sense.

When my computer was hacked, I had 2.8 coins in my hot wallet.  They stole 2, but left 0.8.  :/

That was some generous hacker Tongue

i have bought some bitcoins on a platform btcdirect.eu: in the buy proces you must fill in a destination address
first on the wallet blockchain.info i have clicked "receive" i have filled in a wrong bit amount and i have ended the receive proces.then i have clicked receive again, i have filled in the right bitcoin amount,i have copied the receive address (which was the same as in the first receive window) to the btcdirect.eu platform.then i have first ended the buy process on btcdirect.eu by paying.then i have ended the receive process in blockchain.info
I'm waiting already 2 hours and i didn't yet receive any bitcoins

what can i do?
Quote
HOW LONG BEFORE I RECEIVE MY COINS?

We try our best to send your coins within 2 minutes after you have authorized your order. Of course, there are always exceptions. When you use a bank transfer for instance, we wait until the payment is credited to our bank account before we send out your coins. Delays may also occur when you use a new bank account or credit card outside of business hours. Since we have to verify each new account manually you will have to wait until the next morning. Finally, your transaction may also encounter a delay when it’s larger than average. In this case it may be subject to a cooldown period of maximum 48 hours.

If you made a bank transfer then there might be some delay. Same with if this is your first order or used a new bank account/credit card, verifying the order manually and today is Sunday so that might cause some delay.

691  Other / Meta / Re: This site take 2.3$ from me ? on: July 22, 2017, 03:29:28 PM
OK but why bitcoins talk ask me to send 2$ and not refund it ??

Why would they ask for $2 and then refund it? Lol

They required payment because probably some other users registered to bitcointalk using the same IP that you're in. The payment is just to prevent the spamming of account registrations.
OK i have no problem but why bitcointalk keep this amount of money
if this money to check must refund it yes ??

There is no refund. The proxyban applies to only registrations. If you are creating a new account using an evil IP address (proxy/VPN/Tor exit node) then you have to pay a one-time fee to create that account, non-refundable. After creating an account, it doesn't matter if you are accessing that account through a proxy/VPN/Tor exit node.

This is solely to prevent spammers from creating multiple accounts through IP addresses that already have been used for evil purposes.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1215937.0

This doesn't happen to all, only to those who are trying to create an account using shady IP addresses, proxy/VPN/Tor exit node.
692  Economy / Speculation / Re: alphabay taken down how will effect price of bitcoin on: July 22, 2017, 03:01:38 PM
Hey guys just heard a few dark

AlphaBay was taken down on July 13, today 22, did it affect bitcoins price? If you were wondering if it would affect bitcoin price negatively, then no. The recent surge in price is because Segwit is locked in and would get activated soon, but if that wasn't the scenario, I think only a small percentage of bitcoin is circulated in darknet markets, not big enough to influence bitcoins price. Would have if it was 2013, not now neither in future.
693  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Rewards for nodes ? on: July 22, 2017, 02:32:48 PM
Node operators don't get any incentive, but still they do run nodes to protect the privacy, security and decentralization of bitcoin network. Technically it would be difficult to reward node operators. We already have mining centralization, but the good thing is miners don't have the absolute power, node operators are the back bone of the network.

What do you think would happen if node operators are rewarded? There would be centralization in this area and that would be one hell of a mess. No matter how much centralized pools or miners get, they wouldn't come up something that node operators don't agree up on. Full nodes validate each and every transaction and if a block doesn't meet the consensus rules then it's not relayed, full nodes enforce the rules and imagine a scenario where some full nodes are centralized, if I am right then blocks would get rejected rampantly, splits, altcoins, the main hashpower would get distributed into small hashes with altcoins. It would be bad.

I will take the bait since my name is already on your ignore list Grin...I guess it entered when I made a comment on one of your threads regarding block size increase, maybe you didn't like it Tongue I went through the list, almost 80% of Sig campaigners are on the list. Are all these spammers? I joined a Sig campaign after I became a hero member, not justifying my poor post quality, just saying, no offense taken being on your ignore list Smiley

695  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoin split on 1th august or no? on: July 22, 2017, 06:02:51 AM
http://www.bitcoincash.org

BitcoinCash BCC on August 1st.

BCC is going to be an altcoin rather than a split in the original Bitcoin blockchain, right? So what do I need to do in order to claim these coins? Do I need to import the private key of my Bitcoin wallet in to the BCC wallet? Isn't that risky?

Bitcoin ABC client would create a new blockchain and would mine Bitcoin Cash (BCC) on BCC mining pool, its simply an alt, nothing to do with the main chain. This ABC plan was proposed by ViaBTC, around 4.6% hashrate. At a time where Segwit activation looks certain without causing a split, ViaBTC has to be batshit crazy to go ahead with creating a BCC mining pool with such a low majority to mine BCC.

If they do it then it would be on August 1. According to their UAHF plan they would be launching a BCC mining pool tomorrow, July 22. Let's see if that happens, most probably not and there would be no split on August 1.

https://medium.com/@ViaBTC/statement-on-bitcoin-user-activated-hard-fork-6e7aebb67e67

If this happens, then you would have to convert your bitcoin to this ABC altcoin, is it worth it?

ViaBTC has just put BCC (Bitcoin Cash)-CNY trading pair on their exchange.

Quote
From 22nd July 2017 (UTC Time), ViaBTC exchange users can trade your “BTC” assets against 1:1 ratio into both “BCC” and “BTC_FROZEN2” assets. Namely, you can trade 1 “BTC” into 1 “BCC” token and 1 “BTC_FROZEN2” token, or vice versa. Deposit and withdrawal are not available for “BCC” and ”BTC_FROZEN2”.

https://www.viabtc.com/convert/bcc

Who would be insane enough to trade 1 BTC to 1 BCC and 1 BTC_FROZEN2 tokens? It looks like there might be another altcoin on August 1.

PS: BCC is just an altcoin, nothing to do with bitcoin or a split.
696  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Cryptocurrency to feed the poor? on: July 22, 2017, 03:47:05 AM
Why has nobody created yet a cryptocurrency that will be used to feed the poor? Raising capital now seems more easy than ever. You have ICO after ICO, yet everyone is thinking about making money, but nobody is thinking about helping the needy and creating a chairity.

There was Humaniq ICO targeting the unbanked people in the underdeveloped countries. It wasn't a non-profit ICO. Basically I don't think it is possible to create a non-profit (No owner, no shares of ownership, no investors) ICO or IPO for raising capital to help the needy.

It could be done only through charity or donations, NGOs. Lack in a supply of food, water, healthcare, eduction etc leads to poverty and most importantly a flawed monetary system is one of the major causes of poverty. Bitcoin charities can help with providing basic necessities, but its direct usage provides economic freedom and financial stability thus a countermeasure against a flawed monetary system.

Here's a list of a few bitcoin charities, http://bitcoinforcharity.com/bitcoin-charity-list/

698  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is Satoshi Nakamoto and why does he hide in the shadows? on: July 21, 2017, 08:57:50 AM
It would have been nice to get this attention in any other context.  WikiLeaks has kicked the hornet's nest, and the swarm is headed towards us.

This is one of the last posts made by Satoshi Nakamoto on this forum, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2216.msg29280#msg29280

From the very beginning itself Satoshi tried to remain as anonymous as possible. Now around 2010, Bitcoin wasn't as popular as today, but still being the creator Satoshi knew it had a huge potential and when WikiLeaks started accepting Bitcoin Satoshi might have realized that:

1. Bitcoin getting attention from WikiLeaks might possibly endanger his anonymity.

2. Bitcoin could also be used for illegal purposes thus not only jeopardizing his privacy/anonymity for being the creator of such a currency, but might also get him into legal trouble.

If he wasn't anonymous the Feds would have charged and locked him up for creating a currency which could be used for illegal purposes.

We don't know exactly how many bitcoins does Satoshi owns, but it definitely would be a substantial amount. If he wasn't anonymous then this amount does possess a threat to not only his life, but also his family's.

Satoshi, be it He/She/Or a group are enjoying their anonymous freedom, let them enjoy it.

700  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: Will you use LN? on: July 21, 2017, 01:30:36 AM
Will you use LN?

If no are you implying you will only do onchain(main BTC chain) transactions?

Will you sell all of your BTC and leave?

Will to convert to altcoins and never come back?

Are you unsure?

What will you do?

Smiley

LN is an additional layer over the network, you can use it if you want to or stick to on-chain transactions. The whole point of LN is instant (within seconds) microtransactions with the lowest fee which I don't think would be feasible on-chain even after Segwit has been activated.

Yeah, the first version of LN has an upper limit of 0.042 BTC which might be increased in the future. Right now LN could be used for small purchases, be it coffee or lunch. Merchants are the ones who are going to benefit most from LN. More merchants would start accepting bitcoin as means of payment.

Recently bitcoin was added as a payment option in the AirRegi POS system in Japan thus making it available across 260,000+ stores. LN could be integrated into POS systems and thus giving the merchants the option to accept instant microtransactions.

Eclair Wallet, an android wallet for the LN was just released, testnet for the time being.
