I downloaded the Byteball wallet for Linux. I unzipped the compressed file. Now, what file of the unzipped folder do I need to execute in order to install and/or get the wallet run? Is there a tutorial somewhere?

The executable file is "Byteball test".  Run it from terminal.

Don't know if this has been addressed but wouldn't everyone sell all their bytecoins before the second distribution to gather extra btc for it?
i think better wait longer than to make more than one distributions.

Legit concern, it was addressed by making bytes also count for the second and subsequent phases of distribution.
See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1608859.msg16569906#msg16569906

Quote
The 2nd and subsequent rounds are slightly different.  You show both your BTC balances (as before) and your balance in bytes.  You have a sort of basket that consists of a mixture of BTC and bytes.  To determine the weight of the basket, every 62.5 MB are counted as 1 BTC.  For example, if you have 125 MB and 3 BTC, the weight is 2+3=5 BTC.  The distribution of new bytes on the 2nd and subsequent stages is proportional to the weight of your basket.

The ratio 62.5 MB per 1 BTC is chosen so that the total money supply of bytes (1015) and the total number of BTC in circulation (16,000,000) are equivalent.

Earlier adopters have the opportunity to participate in greater number of distribution rounds and receive new bytes in each round by using the same BTC balance and bytes received in previous rounds.  You are effectively doubling your stake in each additional round you take part in.

tonych
thx, and one more question.
if i link my bitcoin address for example on the 10th of December with 10 btc, and spend 3 btc untill 25th of December,
then i'm getting 7 btc of Byteballs ?

Yes, but remember to move the 7 btc back to your linked address (most wallets throw the change onto a fresh newly generated address)

@tonych, do you expect exchange listings of Byteball during the distribution phase?

We are working to that end.
685  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: November 05, 2016, 08:23:36 AM
little lost, can someone explain, please?
so if on the first distribution i link a wallet with 10 btc and get equal 10btc in byteball
, and by the second distribution i've spent from the wallet say 5btc,
how much will i get on the second distribution? 5btc+10btc(byteball from the first one) multiplied by X ?
or i'm getting none if the bitcoin amount is less then on the first distribution?

The bolded part is correct.

What do you mean by "allow access to the private keys to official wallet"?

It is impossible to export private key in testnet..we can just import key..if wallet crash how can us restor it ?..privat key is an security allowing export fonds..so plan yu to allow this fonctionality in official wallet.

Unlike Bitcoin, private key in Byteball is not enough to restore access to funds.  Hence, to avoid giving false sense of security, I removed the export function.

happy friday to all frds

tonych can u explain what is the recovery easy system will be for final official wallet ..

need easy 1-2-3 steps to acces byteballs and send them ...

Two options:
1. (crazy) back up the app's data folder (e.g. on windows C:\users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Byteball test).  You'll have to do that every time you send or receive blackbytes or any other private asset.
2. (practical) set up a multisig wallet with redundancy on two or more devices.  E.g. 1-of-2 on desktop+smartphone.  If one of the devices fails, you still can spend the funds from the other device.

I know this is not secure - but how about a real time back-up solution like owncloud/dropbox for this?

It's possible, if you feel comfortable about dropbox being able to see your private keys.

I found the bug and it will be fixed in the next release.
If you turned password protection on and created any new wallets _after_ that, these wallets are broken because of the bug.
You'll have to delete any such wallets on all devices.

It was a serious bug and you deserve a bounty for helping to discover it.  Please PM me you bitcoin address Smiley

ok but i will lost all my bytes test if i remove all wallet..so i can save my bytes or not ?

i pm yu  i no want reward i'm happy to help yu..just dont forget me for andro byte reward  Grin
Unfortunately you can't spend testbytes from these wallets.  Not a big reason to be upset because it is only testbytes.
I appreciate your help very much!  Nevertheless feel free to change your mind.

ok..i wait corrected version..plan you to allow access to the private keys to official wallet ?

i like cats if yu have one..buy him a present for chrismace if it is wise Wink

To be clear, the upgrade won't fix the wallets that are already broken.

Your data is not removed when you uninstall the wallet.
Please keep it for now, I may need your help to investigate the error.

When will we have to link our btc wallet to be part of the distribution ?!
Huh

After the mainnet launched on the 25th December, wherein snapshot will be taken on the first block of that day.

When the mainnet launches, it will be already too late.
We'll start linking in early December and continue up to the launch date.

If you want to support Byteball and also earn some BTC, join our signature campaign https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1666370.60.
The number of slots is limited but we give preference to those who are already active supporters.

Why guys haven't you submitted your ios app on App Store, or it got rejected?
If yes what was the reason? I haven't checked the source code but they had a reason if they had rejected.

Apple is cautious about new cryptos https://github.com/byteball/byteball/blob/master/building-for-ios.md.  But you can build iOS wallet yourself.

Maybe a little bit OT:
I’d was just reading that migrants sending every year 440 Milliarden Dollar home - most to Albanien, Afghanistan und Nigeria.
They use travel agencies, supermarkets and kiosk near the station to transfer the money using Western Union, Moneygram and Ria.

„Use BB.HS (BB- home-send) get 64,2 kB for free”
„Save transfer around the world in seconds. Your BTC / Byte Dealer (every fu.. kiosk owner) will help you to tranfer.“

Yes, I know the problem ist the interface fiat<->crypto. So, maybe therefore  crypto will be a hidden layer for a very long time…
But people which selling cigarettes and lottery ticket can also sell BTC or Bytes using her mobile..
The problem ist to generate a initial demand - we have a classical problem https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_or_the_egg
To break the barrier and to initialize a Revolution, the fees have to be so smal against classical competitors (Western Union, Moneygram, Ria) that the people overcoming habits , fears  and prejudices.

That shoud not be a great Problem: I was reading they take up to 8% for sending 200 $.
In my opinion it’s much easier  to rush a existing market than enter a market wich will come in the future (IOTA).

@ lerecidiviste: you will receive some funds

Throughout the history of Bitcoin, there were multiple attempts to tap into this huge market, without much success.  Search for "bitcoin remittance" to learn more.

please try to think about cost of transaction & idea to include it inside the distribution/inflation/total max float  of the BYTEBALL

please think about making byteball a currency with NO TRANSACTION COST

this would be super COOL  Cool

Transaction cost is a basic anti-spam measure, how can you remove it?
